At this point, either open up a ticket with Support and they'll have other diagnostic software to run, or, do that clean install.

Check out this thread, Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines
Then post the results of these two programs:
- CoH Helper - it will show us basic computer settings and your CoH configuration.
- HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format > Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.

Delete ./piggs/sound.pigg from you pigg folder.
Delete checksum.coh from the main CoH directory.
Reboot and rerun the client. Make sure you don't have the -project coh tag in your shortcut, you want the verifier to run.
If that doesn't fix things, see if there's a software conflict by following the instructions here to shut down all those other start-up and stay-resident programs.
Also, you can check with your computer manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer to see if there are driver updates for your motherboard chipset/CPU. -

EDIT: even if we're okay with slow, going faster for free is always fun, after all.
And while more is 'fun', that's a matter of opinion. For those who think about game balance, the constant call for more and more and more and more, if given into, will break the game and make it unfun for all but a few. -

1. Update Windows to service pack 3.
2. Clean out all those extra programs that have insinuated themselves into your start up registries. You have a single core CPU, you can't afford to have other programs running in the background. Things like: Adobe, Ask toolbar, qicktime (and bonjour, it's 'helper') should be shut off. -

It's either a problem with geometry buffers (turn them off); over heating (check on it: Speedfan - click on: Speedfan 4.41); or graphics drivers that need to be updated (check on both the graphics driver and the motherboard chipset drivers).

When MMs stop being one of the leading speed levelers, maybe a damage buff would be considered. Until then, this line of reasoning will have zero traction with Castle. And for good reason.

You know, for all the angst amongst its fans that super heroes are a niche market and can't get mainline movies and TV shows as much as we want, Disney is doing us all a favor cross-promoting Marvel heroes with real mainline entertainment outlets such as Tron, Basketball, and amusement parks.
Don't you all want the members of the Avengers or the X-Men to be as well known as the Disney princesses? -
To those who complain of the frequency of these boosts and optional extra costs:
From here on out, expect that once a quarter (every three months) there will be something extra NCSoft will be selling us. There will be three boosters and something else, whether it's an expansion or an edition with an item pack or something.
That's the rate of these micro-payments for the past two years and will probably be the same going forward: once a quarter. Which makes sense for a company that makes quarterly financial reports. It doesn't send investors (or forumites) into a panic when they see three quarters doing well and one quarter with a marked drop in earnings if you can pace out the extras for each financial quarter.
Any hysterical claims of 'all the time' and 'constantly' will be laughed at. Also, they're optional. -

And now, time for me to be critical to prove not everyone who is critical is persecuted:
Hey, Devs. Will all these auras and capes be accessible by all character models (male, female, huge)?
Now, I know you're going to say, "Yes."
So why is it that the last cape option from a Booster Pack is missing options for the female model and that this has been broken for a year and a half now? See here for how the Magic Pack Cape is bugged.
No matter how many times it seems I have the ear of a Dev or Mod and point them to it, it hasn't gotten fixed.
So, why should I buy this booster pack if I don't have confidence it won't be buggy for several years to come like the other special capes I purchased?
Actually, is there a way to get my money back for those other purchased capes that don't work right? -

Those who are yelling at people to stop any critical comments are stifling feedback that the devs need. The devs are not going to give you a cookie for jumping to their defense.
But when someone posts a three paragraph diatribe after a long history of such histrionics making this about how the Devs are horrible people and how all the playerbase is being persecuted by the the Devs which an implicit ragequit threat... well, calling that immature rant out for what it is is perfectly acceptable.
So is calling out your lopsided view of what's happening. Really, you're going to make the point that everyone who's critical gets jumped on, when this very thread doesn't support that? That's ridiculous.
I'm tired of the people who make gross exaggerations and emotional tirades, and then when called out on such, play the persecution card. Then the rest of the thread is all about their feelings and how they're misunderstood and how they're being picked on.
I'm sick of it and I'll be calling out those who play the whiny-I'm-being-persecuted card... and their supporters. -

I don't remember exactly how long ago it was, but it can't have been much earlier than August. I don't know if this affects the Windows client either. However, a couple months ago, we (or Mac users) lost the ability to change our shader settings. They appear as N/A, but they're still in use. These got auto-set to medium or higher. I used to keep Shaders on low so the game would maintain an acceptable level of frame rate in all zones, even when my computer was hot. When I sent in a support ticket about it, I was simply told "the option will return soon". Well, I think it needs to be readded now.
Why? My computer exceeds recommended specs for the game and always ran fine. And it still will, until my fans start spinning. Now, I know that sounds like a heat issue, but it isn't. City of Heroes is the only game where my FPS will drop to anywhere from 15 to 3 once my laptop gets warm (other games using Wine stutter a little, native games continue run fine and show no slow down). It didn't use to do this except when I had shaders up too high. And I know it's the shaders, which are stuck on medium/high/whatever and can't be changed, because the only thing I can turn down that gives any appreciable effect on frame rate is the 3D Resolution, and even then I have to drop it almost all the way down. Setting graphics to Minimum has almost no effect.
So please, let us change our shader settings again. I'm sick of having ludicrously low framerates in any place other than low-shader mission maps without turning my screen into a blurry mess. I want the framerate I had in Praetoria when GR launched. That zone and its specific instances have become all but unplayable for me.
To get fps back up, you'll have to lower settings elsewhere. If you post a CohHelper and HijackThis logs in the Tech forums, we'll help you tweak your system. -

You can no longer buy the slot with vanguard or reward merits. I haven't run any of the old TFs, but I think that the only way to unlock the slot now is by running Mender Ramiel's arc.

As 1/4 of a 128x128 pixel picture, you're not going to get any clearer resolution.
It could be a stock photo or a personal photo some Dev slipped into the game. So, unless the Dev that did it speaks up, we'll never know. And that Dev may be an ex- or Cryptic employee right now.
