Marvel Goes for the Dunk with ESPN
You know Kobe's just going to use the Infinity Gauntlet for evil.

I. I.
I don't know what to say.
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.
Looks like a great big steaming pile of meh with an ambivalence cherry on top.
Goodbye, I guess.

Disney owns ESPN and Marvel. No surprise.
news to me, didn't know they owned ESPN ;o
That image makes it seem pretty awful, but this:
"As soon as I heard about the idea behind the [Cleveland] Cavaliers image, I was immediately struck with that. It's very strong, very powerful and could almost run without words, that's how beautiful it is." "The Cavaliers image is an homage to possibly one of the most resonant comic book images of all-time: 'Spider-Man No More' [from 1967's AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #50], in which we see Peter Parker leaving his Spider-Man tights discarded in the trash in an alleyway as he walks off into the cold, rainy night," elaborates Alonso. "We thought what better image to sum up how Cleveland [fans] feel seeing LeBron James leaving his Cavaliers jersey behind as he walks onto greener pastures with Miami. The icing on the cake is that we managed to get John Romita Sr., a comic book legend and the artist who drew the original [image] to come out of semi-retirement and do the illustration." |
But I'm a huge basketball and Marvel fan, so this may as well have been called the "Moses Salute."

You know, for all the angst amongst its fans that super heroes are a niche market and can't get mainline movies and TV shows as much as we want, Disney is doing us all a favor cross-promoting Marvel heroes with real mainline entertainment outlets such as Tron, Basketball, and amusement parks.
Don't you all want the members of the Avengers or the X-Men to be as well known as the Disney princesses?

Well, Disney owns ABC which owns 80% of ESPN, the Hearst Corporation owns the other 20%. They both also co-own A&E and Lifetime Entertainment Services. Oh yeah, I should also remind all of you that Disney is owned by Steve Jobs...dun dun DUN!

We can have Avengers and X-MEN buckets!?
I stopped at three different gas stations on the way to work this morning to grab this, but none of them carried ESPN The Magazine.
Has anyone found pictures online?
I found a few. Someone explain to me who the hell the Mavericks are supposed to be. I don't get it.

That's Cuban as Ant-Man. I suppose that's an homage to an old Avengers cover, one I don't recall.
Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)
Looks to me like their using Cap's shield to fend off all the haters.
Here's an image of all of them:
My favorite images are probably the Bobcats, Nets, Spurs and Bucks. The Cavs image... Really twisting the knife in with the "Unamazing" moniker.
And regarding the Mavericks image, I figured that it was Hank Pym, but... I still don't get it. Maybe I was looking for more meaning in each image.
I still want to read it. Maybe it will explain what their reasoning was for the Mavericks image, as well as some of the other seemingly nonsensical ones, like the Pacers, Pistons, Wizards, Warriors and Timberwolves.
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.
Now they need to do it with the WNBA so the women of Marvel gets represented.
