Yup, I'm with them, the first one is much better. Though yeah if it's for a sig banner, it's way too huge, and if so I'd say move the wording horizontally and center the image over the words, or even to the side.

Happy happy anniversary, Paragon and City of Heroes!
-
Oh don't worry, they did.
I can't even count the number of times I left the hospital and jetted past things that I *couldn't even see* because my screen was rendering other stuff. That said, it wasn't a slideshow. It was more an issue of missing a lot of things visually, but still easily being able to get powers to go off, and move around.
And I kept forgetting that I'd siphon speed on things, and then run off REALLY FAST... durr! Right past Recluse! -
And let's not get started on what happens to you if you drink Crey Cola.
"All Natural" my patootie! -
Where's the Standard Code Rant copypasta and the other such responses that we often use? There should be a thread dedicated to just those references

Quote:I am learning 3D animation as of now (Maya 2010), and will be taking classes in game design this summer.
I would also suggest you stop assuming you know more than I do, unless you support your basis for knowledge.
A motorcycle in this fashion wouldn't be much more than an different item for the legs for super run...
P.S.
Look at the cars in the game.
Look at the tech wings.
See how different they are?
"Learning Maya" =/= "Knowing how to code City of Heroes. That is what the "standard code rant" is all about.
Just because you might know a little about how to use a popular program, a VERY LITTLE if you're 'starting' to learn animation... Remember that ANIMATION IS NOT MMO CODE. And it never will be.
You wanna make your own mmo - go right ahead. Until you've got all the experience to do so, maybe you should listen when those of us who've been around the game a long while, and have had the pleasure of talking directly with the devs, say things like "the devs won't do this because x and y". Because that's how the game works. Every game has different engines and expectations.
Maya is not a game engine. Hate to burst your bubble. It's a pretty animation program, and rendering things in it is keen. But it's not got a lot to do with programming powers or effects in this game. Live with that. -
Let's see here...
On Protector some of us 50s got together and hit PI for some fun before the event. We decided on Talos as our resting point, there were already a few people on the Hill.
We didn't have to wait terribly long, before Ocho gave us a big red heads-up and then started dropping mobs on us like Yellow on Death.
But we're PROTECTOR. Things like this happen constantly - well, as long as Badge is around. Remember, we're the Robot Rampage server!
There was plenty of doom to go around, in just the first few minutes.
We started getting not just normal Giant Monsters, but of course, AVs as well.
Guess which one Winter's True Spirit didn't notice coming up on her left as she was taking pictures of the group on the top?
We think it was Ocho who started it, but SOMEONE trained Lord Recluse and his spidery fellows onto us while we were fighting Babbages!
We don't do things by halves on Protector.
We had SO MANY of everything! But then, we HAVE had upwards of 14 Kronoses and Babbages by the dozen during Robot Rampage!
We caught our breath while Ocho was dealing with another server or zone.
And then, Ocho returned, with a hot steamy plate of SUDDEN DEATH.
I had a knack of running right by AV's.
It was a fight to be king of the hill!
Every corner was filled with danger... After I racked up nearly half a million in debt (on a fifty, who cares) I decided I would be done for a bit. Oh yes, these guys had something to do with that.
Had a TON of fun. I do wish we'd had Kronoses, Titans, Fliers or whatever, but hey... Each of our servers got something different!THANK YOU Ocho and THANK YOU Paragon for a great time!
-
Wow.... Protector didn't get anything THAT cool, unless they spawned those rularuu guys in Atlas. :/

Just because your character is "natural" in origin, doesn't mean they must be a LUDDITE for technology or a DEADHEAD for a magical item. I'm not a technologically minded girl, but I still use a computer, drive a car, and am quite capable of using complex machinery. If we had magic, you better believe I'd be buying rings of levitation and using headbands of telepathy.
My natural origin Emp/Dark defender is a teleporter. She's based on me. I give out plenty of advice and help people who need a shoulder to cry on, and gods forbid you start me flaming on a forum for the dark part. My ability to talk and carry on conversations to two or more people at once when I was working at my comic shop when I made the character, lent to her being able to BE in two places at once.
But her more modern backstory involves plenty of borrowed items - she swiped a Circle of Thorns portal, and uses a lot of 'discarded' technology from Crey or whoever.
Origin is what you make of it. There's no reason to complain that there isn't something "for" your natural character, it's not like those things aren't available to everyone ELSE in the game, regardless of their origin. Your character can walk into any shop in the city and buy and sell things, the only thing they can't do is "use" enhancements meant for other origin types. So? Still means very little unless you just can't get your mind open wide enough. -
Just that single quote,
Quote:Is probably the most legendary thing ever put on a forum. Try saying it out loud. Pronounce the Angries. It's awesome.this what happened in the last game i played hackers ruined it for everyone dupin rares and gold and just anything to cheat there no extened maintenance there trying to catch the hacker and we pay for it so unless people don't let GM'S know of wrong doing's in the game it we ruin it and there we not be a COH IT WELL BE GONE TO THE AMERICANS!!!!!!!
-
Quote:"If there are so few people left playing this game, why is there a lag problem when we all get together?"if what just happened in the Freedom server is how you guys do events and stuff around here then i already have my answer to why theres only few people left playing this
***
Protector's event was a BLAST, we made short work of the GMs and AVs, though I think redside was a bit less active.
The only thing I'd suggest is to give in very clear very easily understood messages: HOW TO READ YOUR OWN TITLE. So many people wandering around Pocket D afterwards hounding poor Ocho who *already had titles*.
I'm SO glad that I got back just in time for this -
I can't understand why it keeps reviving, this theme has existed since ... what, issue 3? Earlier? And guess what....
That's right... game's still here.
And this doesn't make any sense:
Quote:Good for you, don't bother wasting your money if you can't get instant gratification, porn would be a far better investment for that 15 bucks, right?Pricing - I've stopped playing the game, Due to pricing. I had only played for just a little over a year when my finances said NO. I felt like a schmuck paying $15.00/mo for a game that frankly takes time to play.
Quote:I looked to my games of yore, Zelda and Metroid for instance are also games that take forever to complete and have a certain amount of replay value, I've been playing all of them for years, and still do. I paid $20-$50 for those games, ONCE, and have played them many a time and can again.
Quote:I paid nearly $150.00 for CoX
Quote:and have nothing to come back to when I feel like continuing. in fact, after my year long investment, I LOST that which I gained and cannot get it back if I decide to pick up and play again.
Quote:This irks me, irks me somethin' Fierce.
But then here's the irony.
Quote:BUT, all this said...I would gladly, GLADLY pay another $100.00 for a single player version of the game, after they add the Going Rogue content of course. Maybe pay a bit more.
Quote:But, I know most people will go to the store and wonder, Why is this game so expensive? and not buy it.
Quote:hence the expansions. Buy the base game, $50.00. play it, enjoy it. find that you can download/buy (and save? i hope) the next MAJOR expansion, $50.00. $50.00 would seem to me a reasonable price for the Large expansions to gameplay. $10.00 for minor expansion (costumes, emotes, dual pistols etc...) seems steep, but I would pay for those Minor expansion that I want, and avoid the ones I don't want.
It's two meals at a fast food place. It's three or four Starbucks drinks. It's two packs of cigarettes in many states. It's a box of cat litter. It's a large meaty pizza from a delivery place. It's not even a movie and popcorn.
Seriously... I don't get either the complaints that 15 a month is too much, since nothing vanishes when you leave and come back, OR "what will we do with the property when it's run its course". This game is and has been *successful* for 6 years now, and is only getting STRONGER in the market. Attrition will most certainly kill off other "similar" games, and frankly by the time this one's "run its course" online... No one will be particularly interested in it any longer *anyway*. Because better/cooler things WILL have come out by then.
I'd love to have a single player sandbox. But they can't oversee what gets done in it, and that's part of the issue. They know we'd like an offline character generator. They can't offer that either - at least not in the States. So... we get online, and there it is. -
-
-
Oh yes he does, because we're stalking/harassing/being mean mouthy people. We're gonna get reported.
-
That's nice.
It's still not going to happen. You want it to? Make your own engine that works with this kind of thing.
Oh yeah, and train people not to be utter nubcakes when they do it and don't understand the first thing about how to play their newly respec'd toon.
It's called "we get 36 character slots per server with 11 servers plus test, use them". -
-
What is it like.... 40+ other zones, at least half of them with something interesting to do, plus 10 other servers, half of those NOT HAVING THE EVENT at that particular hour...
DURRR. Seriously? -
Really depends on your intent while playing. Infinity is a good fun server, Justice is a lot of good peeps, Protector is a close-knit "server of soloists" with some MAD amazing fun events.
make some toons everywhere! That's the easiest thing to do -
I saw a wide assortment of halloween monsters on Virtue, and then those AVs somewhere else, earlier. It was SO laggy though, it'd be nice if they actually enforced a multiple-instance AP for it, so everyone could actually see what they're doing.

Obviously FD doesn't have the kind of contact within the industry as some.
A publisherdoes own the final products, but most of the artists themselves keep the art. They sell it online and at conventions.
They freely swipe from each other. And as I said, unless it's a BAD copy or so obvious that it's painful, it's almost always seen as an Homage, not a omgtheft.
And yes: they DO want their inkers and pencillers to work *as fast as they can*. They LEARNED from the start of Image Comics and their perpetually late schedule. Mostly. There are still exceptions of course but an editor is going to hire someone who can get the work done on time, and adequately well.
Unless the image was actually taken FROM the original piece: stolen page physically and printed to benefit another company, there's no legal issue unless as Bindweed said, there are stupid lawyers doing stupid things.
The artists rarely have anything bad to say about another swiping a pose, though they often DO comment about it again when it's BADLY DONE. Or so often done that the artist is "known" for it.
But take a deep breath: they do it and they think it's okay to do it. Professional artists of ANY kind do it. And yes, there are still plenty of artistic pursuits which REQUIRE copy-ability: advertising and movie posters particularly. Hell a friend of mine attended classes by the guy who made all those iconic 80s and 90s action flick posters, and he taught how to do it EXACTLY LIKE HE DID. Why? In order to get a JOB doing that. It's a valid use, in a huge market.
If you don't like it, don't do it. But stop trying to assert your morality on everyone around you, dear. It's not gonna happen. -
It's not going to happen.
The devs know the system - clearly - better than you, and they have REPEATEDLY stated how bad these things are for the engine. They MIGHT be able to dedicate a room full of people for a year or so to get tunneling or swinging to work with the current system, but frankly that is NOT worth their effort or time.
Because then they'd have to balance it, make it work in pvp AND pve, make it possible for every character using it to do the same things that every other travel power does (ie: stairs, water, rooftops... pick a feature). And then test it.
Sorry - but no. They've already said they don't want to add certain things, and these are among them. They LOOK STUPID, they DON'T ADD to the game.
I agree with another earlier post: I'd like to see 'elemental' versions of flight or leaping, or just the option to add those effects instead of having a whole power-set based on things. A SERIOUS flame trail from a fire-based flight, bubbly bubbles from a water-type, ice trail, etc. THOSE are things which work perfectly well in the game already, and wouldn't require balance issues OR the kind of manpower and effort to bug-test it, and it would open up huge visual improvements to boot.
It IS a Standard Code Rant applicable situation. YOU clearly do NOT understand the issues as presented by the devs. You aren't a developer of this game, are you? NO? Well then - perhaps you should listen to what Posi and the other devs have told you, and maybe concentrate your idea efforts on things OTHER than the ones which have come up time and time again (tunneling and swinging what a surprise), to come up with something NEW.
** Think about the engine as it is. Not the engine as you WANT or WISH it to be. How things get done in this game and no other. Just because some Other Game does it, doesn't mean DIDDLY.
** Think about the process that must be done in order to put ANYTHING into the game, let alone something which uses a completely NEW or different method or programming. Start to finish, every little thing in this game has to work WITH everything else, and mix perfectly, not look out of place, and not do things which imbalance it from the other existing powers.
** Think about how anything new might imbalance the PLAY, let alone the power of any given character over another. Will one travel power be so slow or laggy that it disturbs the flow of play for a team? (as mentioned above, going through DOORS made it harder!) Will the graphics/engine require something more than the most basic playable computer system? Any changes to the very basic stuff is to be completely discounted. It MUST run on the basic systems, may have bonus extras that work on higher end.
... There are so many things to think about for suggestions. I'd recommend considering them before sticking your foot back into your mouth and suggesting something that's not only been brought up a zillion times before, but have also been repeatedly slammed down by the devs themselves. They know their limits. You do too, if only you'd read. -
Quote:This would NOT be a good example of a 10 dollar booster. This would be a MAJOR change from the game's current setup.Secondary set Booster pack for each power set.
What I am trying to get is basically having 2 powers to pick from a line for a given level range. As an example I will use Devices. You can pick up Trip mine at level 28. Instead of being able to pick only Trip mine you would have an option from the Booster pack to pickup Sticky Grenade. Basically A bomb you toss at a mob that blows him up and does AOE around him. Maybe does less damage but can be used more often.
Instead of Targeting Drone at level 10. Aid Bot, basically heals you similar to aid self. Instead of Gun Drone, maybe a mech type robot you get from Vet reward. Walks around shooting mobs with lasers. Again a different type of damage.
Or maybe allow for players the option of mixing up some melee and ranged attacks. Instead of Rain of Arrows you can pick up head splitter.
Again just some ideas to make you understand the concept.
