  1. Yeah, next raid and stuff. I said I'd do one every two weeks, but I actually forgot to organize something so I guess I'll do it now.

    The next Hamidon Raid will be on the 21st of May (yes, one weeks time). Same times as usual, 7pm meet-up for 8pm start. It would be helpful if most people could try to be there for 7:45pm so we can have teams formed up and actually be inside The Hive by 8pm instead of messing around outside for another 30 minutes or so.

    Since Archy has left the game, the PA drop team leader for this raid will be Righteous Bob (aka Generalissimo_2). Also, Honsou will be back in the targetters spot for this raid.

    To speed things up a bit and reduce the confusion, Honsou will call out when the Mito that he's targetting is on half health, when it's dead and when he's moving on to another mito so that people know what's going on. If you're still attacking a mito after he calls out that the one he's targetting is dead, you're attacking the wrong one.

    Another change this time around, we'll be using a "Bubbler". This is a tactic used in the US to help people make sure they're in the right place during the mito clearing phase. Basically, one /FF controller runs Dispertion Bubble (In this case, Mesmer). If you're not inside/near the bubble, you're in the wrong place. This doesn't mean we need ALL bubblers to run it though, just Mesmer.

  2. grav/ actually goes really well with /storm since the AoE immob from grav doesn't stop the foes from falling over when you put Freezing Rain down.

    Well, considering your secondary is empathy I would say it's not there specifically for your own survivability. My own PvP build has my single target hold, my single target immob and my pet from Gravity and then the entire Empathy set bar Ressurect. I also took the entire Primal Forces epic pool since Power Boost is awesome for /emps and the rest of the powers are pretty nifty too.

    Basically I play a pure empathy role until everyone is on full health and I have no buffs left to use and THEN I start dropping controls on people. If we're really on top then I'll start trying to get kills, but that doesn't usually happen. I suppose playing like this is better for a grav/ though, since my Singularity is firing off holds and immobs while I'm buffing away.

    SS+SJ is probably the best travelpower combo for PvP, since you can still move around with slows on you if you can jump. Also, hasten and Acrobatics are incredibly useful. Yes, you can run Acrobatics and CJ at the same time as fly but it won't protect you from any -fly affects that get put on you. I wouldn't have it, but many others would. Oh, and don't take Acrobatics for the hold res. One controller will hit straight through it with one hold.

    No. AoEs generally are not very good in PvP, and nukes are even worse.

    Whirlwind is useless now. It would've been useful if it kept you unrooted, but it really isn't any more since the repel affect doesn't seem to actually do anything.

    This isn't a personal dig at Raz because I do think he knows lots about the game, but anyone can get to 50. You just have to keep doing PvE, there's no way you can "lose" or "fail" since even if you die on every mission, as long as you get ONE kill you'll get XP which can't go down. Number of level 50's =/= in-game knowledge.

    Don't take that as a personal dig, Raz, but people using number of 50s as an example of their "prowess" really ticks me off.

    To a point. They nearly beat us in the first match against them because our TP-Foe'er accidentally grabbed their tanker, who was named SSG Controller. We were thrown completely off balance, expecting a squishy controller but getting a rather less squishy tank, and they swarmed all over us. Thankfully, the arena crashed so we had to restart the match and we TP'd the right guy the second time. It's possbily the only time I've ever been greatful for a bug.

    Yeah, like Empath said, after that incident I just started looking at AT symbols instead of names/symbols. That doesn't always work, though. Their controller had Arctic Air, and the confuse from that made me unload a shadow maul/smite combo into our own blaster before I realized what was going on.
  8. The thing is, Raz (and I'm not having a go at you, because I actually like you), the posts you make about soloing TFs come across as "look at me, I'm great" even if you don't intend them to.

    While I do think that your view of a "challenge" is a bit skewed (since PvE is fighting stuff that has been designed to be killed), I respect that you want to try to do this. Perhaps in the future it would be better to just send a tell to people in-game asking for help starting the TF? Some of them, as I'm sure you know, only take 3 or 4 people to start and getting that amount of people at any time of the day isn't exactly hard. Even if all your friends are offline, I bet that if you asked in the evo channel people would throw themselves at you to help.

    Which is actually what happened. To me, that post looked like he'd just made a post saying "I think rad or dark would go well with psi blast", which doesn't really warrant making a whole new topic. The dyslexia makes it even easier to miss questions, which is actually what I did.

    Also, it's funny, but you're having a go at me for doing exactly what you're doing right now.

    It doesn't protect you from Placate, it just lowers the duration. It's the same as what AM does for some mez effects.

    Yeah, I'd edit the rules but I can't because the maximum edit time has expired, apparently.

    You can't really enter with more than one character, in case you had to fight yourself or were drawn on the same team as yourself. I don't think you can really enter the Defiant and Union divisions either, since the matches take place at the same time.

    3vP is coming!

    3vP Tournament

    A 3v3 random team format PvP event for Heroes and Villains on Defiant and Union servers.

    So what's the deal?

    Each player has 3 lives. When you lose a fight, no matter what team you're in, you lose a life. Once they are gone, you outta there!

    Team composition is assigned at random on a match by match basis - you could be teamed with anyone - adaptability is the key to success. We'll draw the teams out of a hat and announce them 24 hours before the "fight night" each week.

    Sign-ups are found on two threads, one for Defiant and one for Union, which we'll create when we open the sign-ups. Fight nights will be on Thursday, starting from 7pm GMT. Sign-ups will close on the 25th of May, with the first fight night taking place the week after (1st of June).

    Xanthus will be organizing the Defiant side of things, and Union is being organized by Captain Morgan.

    As players are eliminated, it will work down to the final 6 players per server, who will face off as the final teams. The victorious team will be crowned server champions, and go on to face the other team in a test server final for ultimate bragging rights.

    Matches are 10 minutes in length, with the exception of the final, which will be 20 minutes long.

    Both Heroes and Villains may enter as both factions can team together in the Arena.

    There are 24 player slots available in each server tournament. These will be filled on a first come, first served basis, using the sign-up threads for each server. If 3vP proves to be a success, we will organise a second event, also featuring a bantamweight division.

    Sounds like my cup of tea, so what rules are we playing by?

    1. In all cases, all communication with organisers must be via the Private Message system on these boards.
    2. In the event of a dispute between teams, both team leaders should attempt to resolve the situation amicably and politely. If this is not possible, both team leaders should send details to an admin for adjudication.
    3. The organisers may change or modify the rules at any time. Such changes will be announced on all the boards.
    4. In all cases, the decisions of the organisers will be final.

    Matches
    5. Matches will be played as Ranked Custom Team events in the Arena at the Cruiserweight (38-40) weight class.
    6. All members of both teams must be above the lower level limit for the appropriate Division. Higher level characters will be exemplared automatically.
    7. Observer mode must be enabled in all matches. The 3vP tournament is a sporting event, and people should be free to watch it if they wish.
    8. If a player does not show up within 30 minutes of the start of "Fight Night" they forfeit and lose a life. If they are going to be late for any reason, the tournament organizer should be informed via PM.

    Technical problems during a match
    9. If a player suffers a technical problem during a match, such as a crash or a disconnect, the rest of their team must continue and the match will still be valid, unless the opposing team leader agrees, in advance of the match, to restart the match if this occurs. Please note that team leaders could agree, for example, to restart if someone crashes on entering the Arena, but not if a crash occurs after a match has got underway. (I recommend using that agreement, but it's up to the two teams).
    10. If a player suffers a crash or disconnect during a match, they are allowed to re-enter the match if they can log back on in time. To do so, the player should find the match in the Arena listing, and enter it as an observer. They will return to the match and their score will be retained. Please note that their timer will be incorrect (it gets reset), but the match will end at the proper time.

    Conduct
    11. At all times, the standard City of Heroes User Agreement and Rules of Conduct will apply.
    12. The use of voice comms or any other communication with a team in a match is strictly prohibited. A team may use voice comms to communicate with each other, but not with anyone not on the team and taking part in the match.
    13. Players or teams found to be exploiting bugs or other technical problems during any matches will be disqualified from the league. At the discretion of the organisers, their entire team or teams may also be disqualified.
    14. Players or teams found to be cheating during any matches will be disqualified from the competition. At the discretion of the organisers, their entire team may also be disqualified.
    15.If a team leader suspects members of another team to be cheating in any way, they should notify the organisers with all details. The organisers will then investigate the matter.

    So what do I win?

    At the minute, nothing but the fame and adoration of your home server but watch this space!

    Unless the heroes are at the perception cap, in which case they'll see you no matter how many concealment powers you have stacked on you (assuming you're standing next to them, of course).
  17. So just keep moving? A stalker running invis will have a hell of a time trying to AS you, since it's hard enough to AS moving targets as it is. It'll only be harder if the person you're trying to AS can see you as soon as you try to hit them.

    Also, stalkers cannot be completely invisble. One hero at the +perc cap will see a stalker at the stealth cap as soon as he comes within 10ft.
  18. Thanks for the suggestion, Lui, but I'm afraid it just won't work. As has already been said, the game would have to draw two sets of textures instead of one AND the illusionists are already up in the air dropping PA where we need them.

    Both powers you stated there though have very easy remedies, LoS or pure distance between yourself and the caster, cages/bubbles have no such counter...

    Except LoS and pure distance between yourself and the caster? If I can't see you, I can't cage you. Or, you could just zerg me with the rest of your team every time you see me. It's what we tend to do to Force Bubblers/Empaths, why should a sonic cage/detention fielder be any different?

    As far as counters sure, I can see many, for one we can play [censored]-each-other-off with sonics vs bubbles, relentless hounding as well, etc. I think if you play the [censored]-off game a lot you'll generate bad feeling.

    Oh hay, there's a counter to this power! I'm a defender. I die in like 3 seconds against a good team who zergs me. Not only that, but you could even get your own bubbler and just take me out of the fight. TK works as well, since if I'm not in range I can't use my cage.

    I'm sorry, but there's no problem with using these powers. There are counters to them, and they aren't "unbeatable". In fact, they can work both ways. More than once on the monday night fights I've stopped Imaginary/Captain Freon getting kills because I've caged his target (usually Max Powerz =S). Anything +def works against the cage as well (purples, anyone?) and on Controllers it's miles away from perma.

    I don't see the problem. It's not doing "anything to win", it's using a power thats in the game. I'm not exploiting or hacking or anything, so where's the problem?

    P.S. Bilharzia, I often like to solo in PvP and just perma-cage people who seem to be causing problems. Take it as a compliment

  25. KB is stackable, but it's very hard to get the powers to actually hit at the same time. I once fought Mesmer (mind/FF) with Powernova (kin/en) on my controller, and Mesmer was able to knock me back using Force Bolt even though I had 4 ID's on me. This is because I was standing in Force Bubble, so the KB had stacked over the protection from ID. I don't think anyone else would be able to do something like that themselves though.
