Info request - stacking Disorients

With toggle dropping reduced in stature somewhat i'm trying to come up with alternative strategies - we all know controllers and doms can stack holds to beat through mez protection, is such a brute force approach a viable option for blasters (more specifically, my /nrg blaster)?

So does anyone know if stacking bonesmasher/energy punch/total focus will be enough to overmatch a mez protection toggle?

On a related note does anyone know how Knockback resistance works? i've read on the US boards that it's possible to overcome it with enough KB attacks applied practically simultaneously just not too viable to pull off in the real world.

So would standing in melee range with repulsion field up and chaining power thrust and power push be enough to overcome Acrobatics, for example?

Thanks in advance

yeah it is possible to stack disorients over mes protection as in the way of holds. The energy punch/bonesmasher/total focus combination will sometimes all give disorient status and therefore stun through mes protection. Hoever energy punch (and i think) bonesmasher sometimes will not stun, so stacking stuns with that combonination will sometimes not work. If your mindset is on stacking stun through mes protection it may be a good idea to get stun from energy secondary to help in stacking.

Also stacking power push and power thrust will not stack past acrobatics. I'm not sure how knockback protection works, but i don't think it is the same as mes's. It isn't possible to knockback someone with acrobatics up and running, without knocking acrobatics off.

I have had this idea as well, and Ill test it once I get my Blaster the remaining 5 bars to lvl 40.

May I remind that there is a heavy disorient attack in energy secondary called Stun. People normally havent bothered with it, as in I6 its overkill and does diddly damage, but it might prove very useful when starting to stack disorients. Plus its definitely going to be useful for dropping important toggles on characters who are light on mez resist, like defenders, masterminds, et cetera. If Stun is at all like clobber in my tanks secondary, its chance to disorient must be around 100%..

Edit: I have a hunch knockback resistance may work very similar to disorient, but I have no idea how long the 'stacked KBs' stay on the target..can't be too long. Ive noticed this with my tanker in PVE, my tanks secondary, war mace, is heavy on knockback.

I've copied over my en/en/force blapper to test now a cpl times and will test some new combinations with the free respec given on Test today. I'll be trying the ranged-version with some different slotting than what is normal, and also and maxed speed / range / accu build. Anyone seeing a BoltmeisterX (where X is any number between 1 and 5) - gimme a holler and we'll try some stuff in RV/Sirens/wherever

They do stack yes, if pve is anything to go by. Stun for /nrg is 100% i believe, won't stun bosses but this combined with other stuns should be enough to stun in pvp. I know i'll be respeccing it in and taking out nrg punch asap.

On my sonic/electric, i already have 2 stuns and 2 holds, specifically taken anyway for pvp but work just as well in pve for stunning or holding bosses.

Cheers for the responses,

Must admit, i'd completely forgotten about Stun!
Yet another wrinkle to add to my PvP respec planning - just can't shoehorn in all the powers i want

Was hoping to add in another ranged power to even out my melee/ranged balance some more, but stacking potentially 4 disorients is tempting - i think with Acrobatics i should just about be able to stay in melee with a non Energy brute long enough to lay all 4 down (might be some defiance added to the TF though )

Hmmm, i can get all the attacks i want, acrobatics and fly if i dispense with my APP. Slotting would be kinda tight tho...

Decisions Decisions, glad i got 2 respecs in the bag in case it all goes wrong

Anyway, enough rambling. There's going to be some interesting times ahead i think

KB is stackable, but it's very hard to get the powers to actually hit at the same time. I once fought Mesmer (mind/FF) with Powernova (kin/en) on my controller, and Mesmer was able to knock me back using Force Bolt even though I had 4 ID's on me. This is because I was standing in Force Bubble, so the KB had stacked over the protection from ID. I don't think anyone else would be able to do something like that themselves though.

You can also see it if you put two knockdown area powers like ice slick on top of each other. The knockdown turns into knockback because knockdown is low mag knockback.

As an Ar/En I use power boost to stack beanbag, stun and stuns from the melee powers very regualarly in PvE to take down +2 or +3 bosses with a little luck. It's harder to connect with the stun every time in PvP but it will stack and may be a more useful strategy with toggle dropping being reduced.

i wouldnt worry about being melee heavy, so long as u have some reasonably fast damage output at range, the energy primary is poor against anyone iwth energy res and isnt amazing dmg imo. the snipes nice tho.

if all ur stuns hit their chance to stun u should just about be able to stun a scrapper, but not a 50 tank, their protection is too high, you would need something like an ice/nrg or an elec/elec with all 3 holds to hit the mag 12 odd you need (think its more like 9 uactually need but can hit that).

KB is stackable, but not many people can do it through acro, i never get knocked down by energy blasters with acro up, and on test it stays up a lot more and i dont go down, nor against ill trollers who do a lot of KB with heir pets.

the thing you are looking for is a sustained KB mag, so get the powers you are thinking of against you in the arena and see if their icons stay on your buff bar at all, I have KBed an honoured brute before, and even a GA tank (possibly brute, cant quite remember) but afaik elec KBs stack.

o and btw, dont skip your epics, at least take a shield, its the difference between a scrapper mashing me in pvp and me standing there laughing at their face as i drain them. scrappers try to joust ME, not the other way around, so whos scared of who?
