Updated with thematic information! We are keeping it simple this time around, but we may potentially hold future contests with more interesting themes, provided we have a big enough and interested enough turnout this time around.
-
Good on ya, mate! Under 8 hours too, pretty damn good for solo!
-
Quote:Odds are, if a player is playing the solo and small team content, they do not want to transition into the trial scene. The contacts that explain where to start with the trials (i.e. BAF and Lambda) make themselves obvious when a character trains up to 50.I still think they are passing up a fantastic opportunity with this trial by making it +3 instead of +0.
At +0 and with BAF-like rewards, its simplicity and small league size would make it the perfect gateway trial to bring new Incarnates from the solo and small team content into the trial scene.
The other thing to consider is story line. This is a continuation of the Praetorian War story line, and as such, it should be more difficult than the content that came before it. Just as most level 25-30 content is more difficult than level 20-25 content.
If they wanted to add another +0 incarnate trial, it would only make sense that it be the beginning of a different story line. I hope this is eventually what will happen, but as it is, I think they made the right call.
As for the article: I give the Developers major props for listening to their players. The latter trials have certainly shown that, and I look forward to Dilemma Diabolique. -
Hey Pinnacle!
The Talsorian Guard cordially invites you to attend a costume contest this Sunday, February 26th, at 8pm EST, 7pm CST, prior to the regularly scheduled ship raid.
Prizes are as follows:
1st Place: 25 million inf. and 1x Luck of the Gambler: 7.5% Global Recharge recipe.
2nd Place: 50 million inf.
3rd Place: 25 million inf.
There also may be some joke prizes for most amusing costume, if the mood strikes us
The theme of this costume contest is the norm: may be the best costume win! Should we have a big enough turnout, with palpable interest in future contests, we may be back in the future with more thought-provoking and challenging themes. -
Wow, we filled up fast this past week! Glad that there is so much enthusiasm for the weekly raids!
This week, the Talsorian Guard will be hosting a costume contest an hour and a half prior to the raid. For all the details, check out this topic: Costume Contest Info!
Updated the OP for this week! -
Yes. Took me multiple attempts just to get to the "Reply" page on this topic :P

Late to the party, so I just want to post my thoughts after having run it:
-Due to Penelope Yin's juvenile portrayal, despite apparently having "grown up," I no longer think she will be inducted into the Freedom Phalanx. Maybe the Vindicators, but that's it.
-I predict Sister Psyche returns in the 7th and final chapter, considering we haven't heard anything about content involving her being removed from the game, and to have to do that task for her and Statesman seems a little far-fetched for the Dev team to tackle.
-I think Manticore will go full Vigilante, if only temporarily.
-I have to agree with any sentiments about the Freedom Phalanx being plain foolish. The logic in how this one played out made no sense. -
I will most likely be playing lowbies. The only character I have in range of level 50 (17 bars away) I hope to have at 50 by the time that weekend comes around. I have a month after all!
I have 3 or 4 characters in the 20s and 30s that I hope to get a few levels on. -
Considering we haven't heard any wide-spread store problems with Lion users, it is most likely native to your computer.
When the market opens, do you just see a white screen? Or is it the gray screen with the rotating loading symbol in the middle? Also, after waiting for an extended period of time, you are still able to exit the store window and continue playing normally, correct? -
Hey Musey,
Just for reference, what operating system are you using i.e. Lion, Snow Leopard, Leopard, etc.?
Have you tried to access the store from multiple places (from the character select screen, from in-game, etc.) and encountered this problem everywhere? -
Well THAT'S frustrating...
I wonder if they've been getting spam petitions FROM spammers or ignorant jerks like the ones you originally reported, people who are less likely to pay attention to details, and thus not get their story straight if a GM (as in this case) happens to contact them about what happened. -
Quote:Have you tried the Pinnacle forums? I was just there and the first two posts were a Hami raid and a Mothership raid. Seems stuff is going on all the time. The Mothership raid would be open to any character of any level, and would probably be a great way to meet more active members of the server and get some advice and stuffs.Quote:If you have access to globals Join PinnBadges. There are a lot of teams of many levels forming there all the time. When you join you are autosilcenced so send a tell to an op to have a gag removed.

If you can get online on a Sunday evening, come join the weekly ship raid. I lead 'em, and would be happy to introduce you to some of the more active players on the server. -
The graphics are obviously of a higher/more recent quality than the older Dark power sets, but I am still not a fan of the dripping effect from the hands with some of the powers, and from the Shades. Most of the actual effects of the powers are very cool, different, and unique. I cannot wait to see Umbra Beast in action. My one complaint about the power set is that the "inky" aspect of some of the powers gives less of a "shadows" vibe and more of a "glowing dark slime" sort of deal. I mean, if that was the intent, well done :P
I look forward to seeing it in action, perhaps the drip will be less noticeable... -
Quote:Except that's only from the perspective of someone who only wants the Elemental Order costume. The fact is that when you buy a super pack, you are getting more than the costume parts. You may not necessarily want those other things, but they are there just the same. The value of those other items has to factor into the equation. No, it cost one player 33 packs to get the full set.
24 packs: 1,440 Points
+9 packs: 720 Points
2,160 points approximately.
On beta, it took me 13 packs to get the set.
12 Packs: 840 points.
+1 Pack: 80 points.
920 points, or over double any other costume bundle.
All the OTHER sets go for 400 points... The Elemental Order set, if that is all you want isn't a bargain by buying the packs. Far from it.
I totally see what you are saying. I got pissed off as a kid when I would spend $40 on playing card packs and only end up with one rare that I actually wanted or intended to use. In my mind, I had just paid $40 for that one piece of cardboard because that was the only one of any value to me, but I still received a bunch of other cards with it that, whether I liked it or not, contributed in worth to the overall cost.
It is for that very reason that I will not buy the packs. I dislike it, but I have accepted it, and I hope that it does not become something they do too often.
To reiterate: I totally agree with your perspective and your frustration, I am just trying to politely point out the flaw in your logic. -
Quote:You have to take into account how many individuals are included in each of your groups of "people."Which is interesting because with GR, people would've only spent maybe $30 or $40 above their sub fees that quarter but it got higher reveneues than from the Freedom store where people state they spent 100s of dollars.
The number of people who purchased Going Rogue was the vast majority of the player base, and based on the spike in sales, was an obvious draw for players who had let their accounts lapse as well. Once Going Rogue had been out for about a month, it was rare that you would run into a subscriber (which all players were at that point) who had not purchased it.
The number of people who have spent large sums of money on the Paragon Market is most likely significantly lower. Speaking only for myself, I have actually spent less money on the game since Freedom launched. I am still paying my monthly subscription fee, but in the approximate 5 months since Freedom launched, I have not spent an extra cent, using only my monthly stipend. Before Freedom, it is possible a Super Booster would have been released in that time on which I would have spent an extra $10, but with the VIP rewards, I am able to get exactly what I want without spending extra (so far, at least). So Paragon Studios has actually lost money from me.
I doubt I am the average, but I am willing to bet there are other players out there who could say the same. I am willing to bet there is a small percentage of players who previously were scraping together enough cash to subscribe, but are now content to play the game as Premium, purchasing small things off the market here and there, for the sake of their wallets. I could go on, but the point is that there are a number of ways that Paragon Studios has lost income here and there.
The question is: is the income coming from those spending a lot of money on the market enough to surpass the sum of the tiny losses?
Personally, I hope so. I love this game as much as the next player, so I hope it has a number of years left. -
Quote:Yes. Once you get one piece, it is removed from the table of possibilities.I assume there is a mechanism in place that prevents you from getting the same costume piece more than once?
Quote:I'm guessing the people who don't like these things also don't like, or never collected trading cards, because that's the closest, most obvious analog I can think of to these superpacks.
At the end of the day, I am paying money for intangible stuff that depends on multiple parts of a technological system. I have no problem doing that so long as I can afford it, but I have to at least be paying for exactly what I want.
As I said earlier, I am not knocking anyone who wishes to or has already purchased these. I am simply giving my reasoning as to why I will not be doing the same. -
In response to the OP: I don't play female toons, but all the same, I give you HUGE props for fulfilling a request that has caused much consternation throughout the community. Seriously, king's to you.

To echo what I said in the unofficial discussion thread:
On Beta, by the time I finished buying packs, opening packs, and then selling or deleting the large number of things for which I had no use, I cared less that I finally had the full Elemental Order set, and more so that I had lost over a half hour of game play time.
I'm a minimalist: I buy what I need/intend to use, and don't bother with the other stuff. These packs are practically the opposite of that, especially since I only (currently) have use for 2-3 of the Elemental Order pieces. I will pass on these for the time being.
My compliments to the designers, though, as the set is quite awesome and I like it a lot. It is the manner in which is obtained that I dislike. -
#2, definitely. My favorite AT is the Blaster. Once you have taken a blaster to 50 with any given power set, rolling that power set again on any archetype, even another blaster, just feels weak (disclaimer: that's my opinion). My Cold/Ice defender did not last long after playing my Ice/Ice blaster through. All I kept thinking is "why isn't Bitter Ice Blast taking half their health like usual?!" haha.
#6 holds true as well, but more in the sense that I would like to see complimentary primaries, secondaries, and APPs across all archetypes. For example: one can make a Ice/Ice/Arctic Tanker, but can't make a Cold/Ice/*cold powers* Defender. -
I consider myself a simple man, I tend to only buy what I will use. While the Elemental Order pieces are VERY cool, I would only use 2-3 of the pieces (at least currently). The only other things from the packs in which I am interested are the ATO Enhancements, and those promise to be available via in-game methods eventually. Therefore, I will probably skip on these for a while.
Plus, as I play on a Mac, I can't spend more than a few seconds in the store at any one time. During Beta, by the time I was done hopping in the store, purchasing bulk packs, hopping out of the store, opening them all, and then repeating the process a few more times, I didn't care that I had received the full Elemental Order set plus some other good stuff! I had spent over a half hour of "gaming time" not actually playing the game.
Finally, I worry about the future, when they (most likely) add some more stuff to these packs, perhaps even another costume set, and the likelihood of rolling a full set of any one costume becomes diluted for someone like me, who is putting off purchasing these until their stipend has accumulated to a reasonable sum.
Long and short of it: I love the stuff they are offering (my compliments to the designers), but at the end of the day, if I am going to spend money on digital entertainment, something that exists outside of the physical world, it is going to be on something that I am guaranteed to enjoy. -
I didn't get a couple of them, but most were pure genius. Have I mentioned how much you were missed?
-
I see that I am late to the party, but just to offer my response to the OP:
How a player chooses to write a character's bio is his/her decision.
If you're RPing regularly, then I can understand why you might want to read a short blurb: you will probably find out everything else about the character via your interaction with them. But for the rest of the player base, writing a detailed description may be as "in-character" as they get. Then it is there for anyone who enjoys reading that sort of thing, and out of the way for those that do not. In the end, everyone's happy. -
Nice raid Pinnacle! Had a great turnout as well. I noticed more disconnects than usual though. I don't know what might have been the cause, maybe it was just coincidence. If you were among the unfortunate few, let me know if there's anything I can do to try and lessen the likelihood of that happening. In any case, thank you all for coming out! 'Twas a fun night.
OP has been updated! -
If I am available, I will be happy to show up. Unless we get another full Hive with first-timers locked out. Then I'll give up my spot again
