    Since this surfaced again I was reading through and noticed your post. I should have added we had no stealth on the TF so on a number of missions where teams would skip mobs and head straight to the BOSS in question we battled through to find them plus most of the Tf were not 50 levels only looking for a quick badge and some Merits. They actually enjoyed taking out mobs and earning levels. We cut corners where we we could and considering I have heard OLD horror stories of the same, now archived, TF taking 5 hours or longer completing it in under 3 seemed pretty reasonable LOL.

    I agree most people want their TFs fast and I am no exception but I am NOT a huge fan of SPEED RUNS either. I don't wait to level 50 to work on Task forces I use them to level characters so while I have no qualms about stealthing and skipping what we can I have no problem taking a little time to actually level once or twice during one either. I tanked a SPEED Manticore a while back and the leader had it down to a science even working certain missions minus one character so that person could be standing by to do the "talk to" mission that followed. He somehow lowered the difficlulty so we were facing blues and greens most of time as opposed to at least YELLOWS and ORANGES and yeah we were done in like 30 minutes but my tank hadn't even gone up half a level. I did the TF again later on another team just to get some XP. Nothing wrong with Speed runs but not everyone does a TF just for the merits and a quick badge. :-D
  2. I have to be honest sam .. Rez is probably one of the LEAST used powers on any character I have that has the option. If your on a good team that works well together the chance of anyone dying and needing it is rare and even on LESSER teams half the time no one bothers to check my powers and I have had team mates pop an awake as I was about to rez them anyway.


    You plan to solo and rarely, if ever, team so why waste the slot? I team a lot but solo when nothing is available and I have dual builds just for those purposes. And believe me on a "solo" build I do not waste a power selection on ANY power that I can't use to help myself.
  3. ILL/EMP is awesome and my first 50 level was just that. Some of the things I love about the combo include...

    1) Superior Inv aside from a Stalker's Hide this is the best Stealth in game and very little out there can detect you even when you are standing in their face. When you add Confuse this allows you to easily slip inside a mission and confuse an entire mob (I am speaking soloing now BTW) and then assist them in beating each other up. I have completed entiure missions this way without taking a single HP of damage. ONE NOTE: Take Recall Friend and you become the draling of any TF since you can speed things along.

    2) The three Auras of Empathy. Solo or teaming no other powerset provides the caster with this much protection. Thermal is great and has good buffs but like many other buff sets the only person on the team that CAN'T benefit from those buffs is THE CONTROLLER casting them.

    3) Fort/CM .. later game these are your bread and butter so Enhance them for maximum effect and recharge. CM is easy it recovers so quick you don't need much of anything but with Fort I always put 2 recharge reductions in there and can use it about every 30 seconds.

    4) Phantom Army and Phantasm these are your BIG damage dealers until you hit epics and pick up more (if you decide to go that way). Nice thing about PA is they are basically indestructable. Okay they only last a short time but you don't need to worry about buffiung or healing them while tyhey are out dealing damage. Nothing can hurt them so turn them loose and watch the carnage. Phantasm is your body guard and will take aggro. It's fake also manages to confuse your enemy into attacking the WRONG miniuon while you, the Actualy Phantasm and you Army are damaging them.

    5) Heal other .. The Healing Aura is nice and makes everyone feel good as green numbers flash overhead but Heal Other is my go to power if a Tank or whatever has taken on more than they can handle. It recovers quickly and heals for more than twice what the Aura will provide. It has good range too so you can even stand back and heal the team with the Aura while keeping the Tank at full strength with your single person heal. I never take Absob Pain.. don't need it so i use that slot elsewhere. I do take Rez but if i do my job right it's rare that i ever need it.

    I soloed with my Ill/Emp all the way to level 50 and while a lot of people avoid battling Malta I purposely did thoise arcs. Sappers and Gunslingers confuse really easy and go from being a major pain to your best buddies .. as they defeat everything else in the room bnefore you unleash on them with Phantasm and PA.

    How about because 1) People add things to a new base as they can afford them and as they need them. If a brand new SG can only afford 1 teleporter and everyone in the SG is between level 5 and level 20 do we really need teleport to Croatoa before we need say Kings Row or Steel Canyon? 2) Even later on when we have the prestige and the room to support teleport to 22 zones (HERO SIDE OF COURSE) using the level based design still makes sense.. Lower levels = Yellow Line zones Higher levels = Green line zones (with of course Steel and Skyway present on both). So unless no one in your particular SG has ever ridden a train why don't they have a decent idea of what zone correspond to waht levels? and 3) I think you are selling a lot of players short. Hey you arrive in either Atlas park or Galaxy City (getting those options on creation or when you leave outbreak) so they are quite obviously the lowest level zones in game. Depending on how you play, using the sewers or contacts, at some point after level 5 someone is going to FORCE you to go see Dave Wincott in the Hollows and at level 7 They will TRY to make you battle COT in Perez Park. At level 10 people start giving you contacts that are found in Steel Canyon and Skyway (including Montaque for the Midnighter's club arc and the Dean oif the University as soon as you step off the train in Steel). At around level 12, depending on if your doing Radios or running missions from contacts, some contact will TRY to get you to defeat 10 Clockwork in Boomtown and after level 15 someone will probably ask you to go See Jim in Faultline. The game offers up constant little HINTS that show players what the level range is for each zone. and 4) It just sort of became the "standard" way most SGs did things and when other players broke off from old SGs to form their own they followed the same pattern.

    LOL someone else mentioned something like this but if I am trying to get to Perez park at level 10 do i really want to accidentally, cause I am trying to move to fast, click the wrong selection and end up in Peregrine?
  5. I am the Archetect/Engineer for three SGs and I always place the Teleporters and Infirmary close to the Secret Entrance. I try to keep the Workshops close too so players can get at the IO crafting table. IO Vault and Enhancement bins in a short amount of time and a second hold the Inspiration collectors . Energy, Control and ROLE Playing room can go as far away as possible.. LOL Sadly not everyone in every SG agrees with that assessment.

    Memphis Bill makes a good point too.. It doesn't take that LONG to take a quick tour of the new SG you just joined and scout out where things are. Sort of makes sense when you think about it. Move to a new neighborhood and I bet you take some time to ask your neighbors or just drive around a bit to find the Grocery Store, Gas Station, etc. I guess if you join an SG in the middle of a task force your team mates night take exception to you wondering around a 24 X 24 plot looking at every single room but unless the base Designer is just cruel and inhuman most bases place the Tpers and other GOOD stuff close to the entrance.. Take a few minutes to look around and find them. As mentioned unless you have a base that someone is redesigning contstantly it should only take a few trips inside before you have everything memorized

    The Boot Myth

    I don't think its anything widespread but I've seen a few cases. One tean i was on the leader announced he HAD a defender coming "Our heals are taken care of" then the Trick Arrow defender arrived from another zone and the leader bounced him so fast it had to hurt. AREN'T ALL defenders HEALBOTS? DUH

    One other time a Kin got the boot on a team I was on for not having SB. Leader was a tanker (STONE) so he wanted SB but even then I think he'd have put up with the Kin except when someone asked why he hadn't taken SB the rather rude reply was something like "It doesn't help me a bit so WHY should bother with it? I'm here to earn XP and Influnce you can all fend for yourselves." The Kin pretty much insulted his way right back outside that cave in PI by making it pretty clear we could all die for all he cared as long as HE made XP and INF faster. Little Hint .. taking powers that HELP your potential team mates aids in that whole process LOL

    Those two aside I cant recall a whole lot of the PUGS I have been on kicking anyone willing to join., Hey I did a Citadel TF with 7 Blasters and one Defender (yes he had heals). The Damage output was so high nothing lasted long enough to stop us. I'm sure other players know of more incidents where someone got the boot for NOT living up to some STANDARD... there are a good number of BAD team leaders out there too :-D I just manage to avoid them.
  7. Lets see Vets waited to get access to 2 styles of wings .. between booster packs and IO recipes it wasn't long before that became a joke. I currently have so many free costume changes and free respecs I have no clue what I am supposed to do with all of them. SG rewards only benefit a Vet that happens to run and/or do the design/engineering wortk for an SG base and now, 9 months before I reach 60 months, you want offer up travel powers to anyone willing to plop down 9.99? How about NO.

    The Vet reward program was supposed to REWARD players that stayed around and PAID to play the game for X number of months. I have no problem with booster packs and have the majority of them myself but to take away a VET reward already handed out to people that were around when this game was still in BETA and are still here playing it today to give it to anyone with a credit card is insulting. I waited my 5 years for the ability to get a travel power at level 6 and without having to take anything else from that pool... You can wait for yours too.

    Most Bonus packs offer new emotes, some added costume options (including capes and auras) and one fairly decent power.. the best of these being the Mission teleporter and ninja run. Not one of them has ever granted a player access to normal powers earler than usual and I see NO reason to change that and if you find a 60 month Vet that thinks its a good idea they need to contact their doctor cause their meds are off again.


    Added later.. Let me add that I don't see myself running happily to take fly at level 6 on any character I make in the future once Decmber 15th passes or taking weeks respecing older characters JUST to save one power selection.. Heck I always take Fly as my travel power anyway and Air Superiority is a pretty good added attack to any melee character's attack chain so why CHANGE out? But on new Trollers, Blasters, and Defenders this means I could add an addional buff/debuff/attack/Def to my build early on that might have waited previously when I HAD to take an additional power from the pool. Like I said I BUY Booster packs and Ninja run plus (the Vet reward) Prestige Sprints = I can get around faster running than using the temp powers I earn doing Safeguards. I have DP characters that took their FLY at 14 and tucked away a Raptor pack with 2 hours still available. It's still ONLY one power and how you equate that to DRAMATICALLY improving your entire build is beyond me.
  8. I think Desch covered most of the issues you are running into. Now add that with Patrol XP eliminating debt while a player sleeps and you get a lot more people that simply don't care if they die during a battle.

    "I have 10 bars of Patrol XP. Yeah I died but I am still not in debt so.. So what?"

    "Okay so big deal I died. I'll either work it off on the next mob or when I log off the Patrol XP I earn will eliminate all the debt by the time I log back on tomorrow!"


    Trust me this particluar aspect has not just affected people relying on Tank Aggro control. Defenders and Controllers with heals, especially empathy, used to be in high demand and could find a team in no time but these days more teams are looking for buffs/debuffs and could care less if you can HEAL anything.

    HEY I am not the dullest knive either! Oh I don't even know if he meant me LOL I had a LOT of fun teaming with my AR/DEV to 50 and she was an experiment. I did the sewers in Atlas to level 7, ran radios solo and on teams to and them teamed and Task Forced my way up without ever (EVER) having a single contact... Okay at level 48 I broke down and let the Police Detective Introduce me to Marie in PI so I could host AV missions.

    Freakshow still hate me for what my trip mines did to them during the Second Respec Trial in TV. My team mates on the other hand got a huge kick watching anything left from a spawn that got near the Reactor go flying when they hit my mine field. I worked very well with a good friend that's a herding tank on all sorts of missions. He's say I will bring them here! While he was rounding them up I was laying down mines. They'd follow him back and get blasted to pieces.


    Took me a while but when possible I learned to move around so my Kickback was actually knocking things back into herds instead of away from them.

    Okay so she's not exactly my favorite Blaster.. My ARCH/ICE was stilll soling at level 50 and I like Rain of Arrows a bit more than Full Auto... Full auto does massive damage BUT if the target you pick out in the mob decides to bolt and run you wind up hitting only one NPC. RoA selects a spot and if the tank is holding aggro there everything gets hit every time. But AR/DEV is certainly not a terrible combo by any means
  11. I have one 50 level Warshade that is primarily Human/Dwarf. I have squid form but on to travel since I am too loazy to use teleport LOL. Dwarf form is slotted fro maximum damage, accuracy and recharge since it has so few attacks. Human form gets everything else. I don't know squid form does a good bit of damage but its just too squishy, and as mentioned no way to add defenses like the shields available in Human form.

    My Dwarf has Tanked Almost every GM and has fillede in nicely tanking on TF when we couldn't find a tank.

    Well it depends on which badges you plan to go after. Exploration and History badges.. Oh I was just in the neighborhood and did some exploring/research.

    Instance mission badges .. Hey the majority of those pit you against other villlain groups anyway and if your uptight about battling Longbow .. remember they are the "Bad Guys" along with rebel elements of Vanguard in the third arc in the RWZ (from Gausmann).

    I don't plan to convert any of my Heroes or Villains totally instead making them Renegades/Vigilanties so they have access to both sides. And not all heroes are veiwed as squeaky clean either. Batman spend time being pursued by the same Police he was trying to assist in cleaning up Gothem (em?) city. Spiderman? The press painted him as everything from a villain to a show off. The X-men spent time hiding from or battling Givernment agencies that wanted to control and confine them for being "different".

    So you're undercover in the Rogue Isles for a while and even a Mayhem can be explained away as.. "Yeah I helped rob the Atlas Bank but it got me in touch with contacts I needed to complete my real assignment. And besides I made sure every one involved in that bank job went to jail and the money was returned quickly." Plenty of ways to GR and stay heroic.. even if it is undercover. :-D
  13. I'm close to 40 characters now on Virtue between 2 accounts and my "girls" have a wide variety of outfits.

    Martial Arts robes with bikini bottoms and wraps
    Classic style with long sleeves and and a bikini botttow to form a leotard style look
    My Valkyrie is in full battle armor

    Basically I just like to give each their own distinct look and personality (don't rp much but do have bios on almost all of them and even the outfit revolves around that.

    Now when December rolls around every single one becomes Santa's Sexy Helper. LOL Just something I do as a joke for all the guys I have made friends with over the years. Look at the outfits super heroines were wearing in the 50s and 60s in comic books and tell me the Artists didn't plan those to entice boysm to buy them. LOL I see nothing wrong with it and in over 4 years I have only had ONE creepy get get a little strange in IMs.
  14. After I posted I remembered one other thing.. These days it doesn't seem like anyone really cares, or even checks to see if you can rez, I have played on countless PUGS where by the time I find the fallen team mate and get ready to rez they pop an awake and just GO (after some stumbling around and rest time).

    I don't see it as a big concern for anyone these days and usually even hold off taking it on my team builds when other things wil be more beneficial like say Radiation infection, Enervating Field, or Lingering Radiation from the RAD Pool. I don't think anyone will complain about a Rad/Rad defender not having Mutation YET but having those three. "Do you want me to run arouynd with a power that only works if your dead? or three that debuff whatever we face and make it easier for everyone to stay alive to begin with?" :-D
  15. With the new dual builds this is far less of an issue than it used to be Sam. You don't team or don't team much so what you do with your build is no one's business but your own. I enjoying teaming so I almost feel an obligation to provide whatever support I can.

    With Dual builds many of my characters now have a solo build that's heavy on attacks and personal defenses/buffs/debuff and a team build that is geared more toward team support including rez.

    Hey don't forget not all REZ power are only good as a Rez either... Howling Twilight from Dark Miasma disorients foes, criples their recovery and recharge times, slows them and does damage. Half the time if I do have a team mate down I wind up giving them an awake because I used it on the AV prior to them falling and its not available yet. Power of the Phoenix, fron the Thermal set, also has a good deal of knockback, damage and disorient associated with it when used. Howling can be used without anyone needing to be down, or even teaming with you, with Phoenix does require someone to be face down or its useless.
  16. Someone above me stated it.. this is not a new issue and players have been wailing for inherent stamina for years. Others will tell you it's completely unnecessary and properly slotted they have a good point as well. At one point, before clarification arrived, many 60 month Vets were foaming at the mouth over the possibility of being able to skip Swift, Health and just take Stamina ... then of course they were informed it ONLY applied to travel powers

    I don't really see it as a HUGE issue. It does come at a very bad time. You finally make level 14 and get you permanent travel power and NOW... time to sit through 6 levels (8 actually) before you can add another attack or defense/buff/bebuff/whatever while you pick up Swift or Hurtle at 16. Health at 18 and finally Stamina at 20. Unless, for whatever reason, you decide you need to enhance any of those aside from Stamina itself it does allow you several levels to increase the accuracy, damage, etc of the attacks you already have. At 15, 17, and 19 you will get 2 more enhancement slots that can boosts the potential of the what you already possess. I left out 21 because I personally like to triple slot Stamina for End Mod so at 21 the two slots I get are going there.

    Yeah its annoying but at 22 I can start taking powers again and at the same time switch from Dual Origins/some IOs to Single Origin/some IOs. I don't think you'll ever see what you're asking for but anything is possible. Personally I could see it as a future Vet reward just like they did with the Travel Powers. I'm closing in on 54 months myself so soon I'll have 3 of the 4 temp powers available and then at 60 Months I can respec SOME of my characters and add another powers someplace that I had to waste to get the Travel Power itself. I have so many free respec and costumes it's rediculous and I'll never use them all up so it would BE NICE if they gave a 6 year vet, or higher, something a little more special.

    A somewhat short explanation, but hopefully that clears up the difference between Closed Beta and Open Beta for you.
    Now add .. Historically (which in NO Way SHAPE OR FORM promises anything) but historically once it hits open Beta it goes live within a few weeks. AGAIN I STRESS that is just what usually occurs and does not mean you can start the count down to on line release. If a MAJOR bug crops up during Open Beta that wasn't found or simply didn't occur until more players were added to the mix it could take longer. That said if all goes well and nothing BAD happens I 17 could easily be released within 2 weeks .. which is before the end of April. Question why is it anytime they say we expect to release some time in X month if the Issue isn't on line and running on the first everyone panics? LOL Most months have at least 30 days and some 31 and as long as it releases on ONE of those no one lied to you or did anything bad LOL

    Keep your fingers crossed and we should see something bright shiny and new soon! :-D

Okay you are creating a Dark Control powerset and you don't want to give Controllers DM now cause you are thinking of adding some of the DM powers to DC. Then once you finish that you will go in and retool DM minus those powers you added to DC before giving it to a Controller? Here's an idea leave DM alone and give it to the Trollers now and then use the time you saved to come up with 3-4 new powers to add to DC instead of throwing powers from DM into it. Seems like it would take about the same amount of time. Plus your not confusing a player that has been using DM for years with his or her MMs and now has to learn several New Powers in a set using the exact same name as the one the Master Mind has had since they got the original. Does that make sense to anyone besides me? LOL

    What has been commonly said to me when brought up is that Dark Miasma would make a better primary than a secondary. Many people believe that controllers will likely get Dark Control rather than Dark Miasma.

    Personally, I would prefer it as a secondary. Its exactly what sets like Illusion and Gravity need to boost up their control abilities, and the only "unbalanced" aspect of the set for controllers would be the powerful "pet". Maybe the loss of "Dark Servant" has been the main hold-up. Only guessing really.
    But they don't elimninate the Dark Servant for MMs and that is one of the BIG advantages for an MM taking DM.. the ability to have 7 not 6 pets. Also keep in mind an MMs pets don't disappear after X amount of time while the Illusionist has one pet, the Phantasm, that stays until dismissed. Phantom Army lasts a few minutes and then you wait for recharge before it's available again. So I really don't see that as a viable reason for not giving DM to Controllers and definately see no reason to eliminate the Dark Servant.

    As for it being a better Primary than a secondary...It's a secondary for an MM as well but it seems to do an outstanding job and is a very popular powerset for them. LOL I know cause my 50 level MM is a Thugs/Dm and the debuffs, etc do a great job. I don't see any reason NOT to make it an option for Controllers.
  20. I think the mechanics for what you are trying to so exist, sort of, but not sure it is available in AE or maybe you need to wait for i17 to release. There is a mission in Test at the moment where you enter a map and find Freakshow standing around but none of them are valid targets. When you locate the Boss, who is a vaild target, and defeat him suddenly all those previously non targets change and become hostile. I don't see why if its possible to do that what you are after wouldn't be as well but it simply may not be something that's available YET.

    Oh yeah Tyrrano although I haven't done it at low levels when I hit the 30s and start getting the Brickstown bank mission I have quite often managed to get to the bank fast enough to catch the signature villain just as he or she enters and take them out. I've even been on a few 8 man teams that found themselves battling the AV as soon as we stepped inside the bank.
  22. Oh I just had this happen to me last week too. I duo with a friend and we cleared the map of Police and Longow ambushes, did all the sides and then headed into the bank. The wierd part was even heard the Hero in NPC chat threaten us.. the the doors to the elevator opened and only the Police Ambush showed up. We actually went and seacrhed the bank and then the map beut couldn't find the hero so we could get a mission complete. Fortunately we are the same level and always get 2 banks back-to-back so we just did it again with her mission and everything was fine the second time. I figure the hero got stuck in a wall or something and we were down to a few minutes left so knew a petition was useless.

    The joke is getting old but as long as no one ends up dead over it I don't mind it. I do sort of mind them spawning the things (any of them) while the team is in the middle of a battle like you described. JUST LOVELY.. I have a level 53 highly enraged EB Cyclops in my face and you are off trying to be witty? I STRESS trying! Now I did a Statesman TF a while back and before Arbiter Sands cut scene several team members actually asked if the leader minded them getting into position to appear in it and since it was not a MoSTF he said fine. It was fun watching them dance in the background while Sands was threatening us... moments later of course he was defeated and we moved on.

    I like this whiole idea and the addition of this third badge makes sense. Then just like the trio of badges available for the Rikti invasion let's add a fourth Accolade badge for getting all three of the others. Not sure what to call it or even exactly what power it would grant but how about an increase in damage resistance for 2 minutes and the power can be activated once every 25 minutes like most of the others? Okay off the top of my head how about "Column Breaker" as a title for this? :-D

    Welcome to the game fellow AR/Dev Blaster :-D I'm sort of suprised you mentioned completing all the missions your contact in Atlas park gave you. At your current level that contact should have given you a new one in King's Row, or even Galaxy City that has mission at your level. If not make a trip back and click on them again .. you should see an option for getting a new contact. Anyone can simply head to the Hollows and find Dave Wincott standing by his patrol car near the entrance to get missions there. In addition as soon as you arrive in KR you'll be directed to the Police Detecive that is you SCanner contact. After talking to him you get a Police Scanner that will also give you access to missions at your level.. these lead to Safeguards that will grant you temp powers like a Raptor Pack so you can "temporarily" fly as opposed to running everywhere.

    As for your build, someone else mentioned it, definately get your targeting drone thius will dramatically increase your accuracy and you'll enjoy trip mines when they become available. Do not skip your cloaking device since it will allow you to move around fairly safely.. It's not perfect so don't get TOO close to anything or you can be spotted but it will let you get close and lay down a mine field you can then lure enemies onto and watch them go flying. LOL Have fun and enjoy the game!
