  1. I was unable to fit in Cremate and Hasten in my FM/WP scrapper. Would working in Fire Blast from the Pyre Epic work for a good attack string? Not sure of the order or recharge needed, maybe FS -> Inc -> GFS -> FBl ?

Silly broots, everyone knows crits > fury. Unless you solo or small group alot where you know you will pull 100% of the aggro, otherwise you'll always be trying to build that fury. And add that to grouping blueside where the team usually consists of a tank or two and a crowd of scrappers and you'll really be hurtin for the fury you need to keep up with the scrappers crits.

The real thing to be concerned about is whether or not anyone would roll up a broot if/when SS gets ported over to scrappers.

You can essentially neuter an AV singlehandedly with Siphon Power/FS/Chemical rounds. Note that the DoT from incendiary rounds gets boosted by FS.

The drawbacks are that you are taking a primary with long animations and redraw with a very clicky set that plays best in melee. Get good at judging whether you can afford to risk the next few seconds attacking before clicking a long-animating blast.
First time corruptor, long time scrapper.

I'd love to see your build Laev, I've played around with one on Mids and I'm not sure what to do with it. What powers are skippable? Looks like a pretty tight set both ways, add in a travel power/hasten (or not?) and fitness (or not?) and probably Scorpion Shield from the patron and your full.

I'm sure I'll be playing him as if he were a pistol scrapper, up close and personal. Were you able to get some decent melee defense in the build, I'd assume it would be mandatory. I will probably be exclusive PvE, probably solo but with a team quite a bit as well.

Any help for a noob both to corruptors and redside would be greatly appreciated.
  4. I've got a DB/SR scrapper sitting at 50 that I'm pretty pleased with his build. We've both chosen the same powers from the primaries and secondaries but chose differently on the pool picks.

The first thing I noticed when looking over your build was that you hit the defensive soft cap (45%) for melee and then some, but missed the mark on ranged and AoE by a bit. That extra almost 5% to melee really isn't doing you any good at all since as a /SR scrapper you have maxed out def debuff resistance as well. I'd try to drop that down to around 45% and then try to at least boost ranged up as you'll notice a difference. I generally run solo on radio missions set for +2/X8 and the melee and ranged defence is absolutley necessary, AoE not so much depending on whom I'm facing.

The only other thing I see is all the +recharge. In my opinion, and your mileage may vary, that much recharge isn't needed for dual blades (an already fast set), and with quickness in /SR your pretty much golden as is. Plus those LoTG +recharges cost a fortune. I'f your aiming for the BF + AV attack chain I don't think you need that much recharge. And if you mix in the sweep combo for mitigation as I do, you definitely don't need that much recharge as you'll always have one combo up or the other.

Here's my build, it worked great for me. I went without a travel power as I got all I needed from ninja run + quickness + sprint + other speed enhancements. I also didn't take aid self/other, I'd rather pop a green or two than use a couple picks and all those slots on an interruptable self heal.

/SD with alotta cash and at 50 pwns, this is fact, but scrapper wise my /SD at anything below 45, sucks hard. Also /SD fails in pvp lol Nerfing /SD would make it even worse.

If you have a decent build and alotta cash, /SD pwns, but if your under any other condition, SD under performs everything.
Not neccesarily true. I've seen quite a few "cheap" shield builds posted here, I've posted a couple myself. And I managed to get real close to the defensive softcap around level 40 while also having shield charge and lightning rod fully slotted. Sure, I respecced him into a monster at 45, but really IMO everything post 35 and shield charge is easy mode.

And the build yields too much to acquire the defense bonus. For example, you have to slot both kick and brawl for kinetic combat. I believe you'll never use these two powers, but you end up with other powers under-slotted. Overall, you can optimize the different aspects of willpower better.
Yea, brawl and kick and even tactics are all set mules, I'll likely never use them. Hurts to slot it that way, but I thought the end result of almost 10% S/L defense would be well worth the 7 slots and one power pick wasted.

Endurance hasn't been that bad of a pull yet, and I've gotten up to level 42 on the build. With both quick recovery and stamina 3-slotted with the performance shifters I hardly ever need to pop a blue.

My main attacks are all 6-slotted, and while the kinetic combats don't give me the best enhancements, I've tried to compensate and slot at least damage and recharge as best I can. If anything I'd like to reslot follow-up as it's very accuracy light and I miss alot with it. Thats the main reason I have the kismet +accuracy in IW instead of the endurance reducer.

Thanks for the imput, I appreciate it.

    New FM/WP Build

After leveling a couple shield scrappers to 50 I've gone back to my main, a FM/WP scrapper, and all of a sudden really felt squishy(almost blaster squishy) doing the same things I was doing on the shielders. So I've got some inf now and would like to go back and try out a new build on him, respec, and hopefully come out on the other side a bit beefier. I know I can swing the kinetic combats, and the other IO sets shouldn't be too hard as I can use some merits as well, but I'll likely shy away from purples and PvP IO's. I've got a Regenerative Tissues +Regen and a Numina's +regen/recovery, but don't think it's really neccesary on this guy so I left them out, unless you think otherwise.

Here's what I got, any suggestions/comments are welcomed.

    The Tally

Targe (Elm/SD Scrapper) went from 44 to 50.

Cherokee Sun (FA/Axe Tanker - also my first toon created) 47 to 50.

    Packmaster (Claws/WP Brute) 36 to 43.

Black Shaft (Archery/EM Blaster) 45 to 49.9. I just didn't want to ding 50 with him although I could have. I've been having a blast running ITF's and other TF's with him lately and really didn't want the big ding to be on some crappy farm. I have a bad habit of shelving toons once they hit 50 and never playing them again, doubly so if I've aced out there IO build like I usually do. I'm gonna hate shelving this guy.
  9. A few posts below yours is mine asking for someone to look over my build, which is also a claws/WP brute. Mines a bit hardcore as I was trying to make mine as sturdy as possible and I've also been collecting the rare and expensive Kinetic Combats which make up a good portion of my build. My claws brute is currently at 38, so I'm getting ready for that final push to 50, especially with the double XP weekend upon us.

As to your questions, if you're called upon to be the tank in large groups like you said, taunt might just be something you could use. Willpower is weak in it's taunt aura, so being able to hit taunt to keep the focus on you and your fury bar in full groups might be beneficial. Plus you can get some great IO set bonuses. Solo, it's a wasted pick, so you'll have to chose how badly you think you'll need it and how tight your build is.

Fighting pool, absolutely. I always build my toons to be as independant as possible when I'm building my scrappers and brutes. I want to be able to take the hits like a tank while dishing out damage that Tanks can only dream of. The fighting pool gets us closer to a tank. With willpower I'd suggest getting your defenses up to the mid 30's, it's not that hard to do and then with liberal use of purple insps you can be softcapped. Mix that with willpowers already good HP boost and super regen and recovery and you'll be unstopable.
  10. This is it, my final build for my first villain. I'm wanting to set it in stone before the 2X XP weekend starts and my push for 50. I've brought it before you a couple times now, been given some great tips, and modified it accordingly. So here it is, Claws/WP brute, defensive softcapped to S/L and E/N while not skimping on the primary attacks and trying to boost the secondaries strengths of HP's, regen and recovery.

Heh, I had anticipated this and went with the retro jacket instead on Wild West. Everyone else had the trench coat though.

As for the main question, I love my DB/SR. SR's easy to softcap, and, as Muon_Neutrino said, the recharge boost leaves the BF->AV chain within easy reach. The only real drawback is that both sets are rather power hungry (DB needs 7, SR needs 8), but thanks to Ninja Run removing my need for a travel power, there's enough room for both, plus some extras like Weave, Aid Self and Conserve Power
My DB/SR was fun but I noticed the same things, it makes for a tight build and PB going off all the time can really get annoying and gets in the way sometimes when firing off combos. If I had to do it again, I might've gone willpower.

I ran with an all pistols guild group last night and it was a blast. I think we all made it to around level 8 or so. I've read the Doom from the beta boards about how the set stands up to the others, but I've got to admit it is awful pretty and lots of fun.

Our group last night had 5 western themed toons, and I saw plenty cowboys/girs, matrix types and Laura Cofts running around Mercy. Word of advice being from Texas and all, not everyone can pull off "howdy", "partner" and "ya'll".
  14. It's hard to argue with elec/sd and fm/sd for both the fun factor and effectiveness. I've got one of both and while the elec shielder has all the AoE goodness one could ever want, fire isn't far behind with FSC combined with shield charge and possibly fireball from the epic. Plus Fire has a killer single target attack chain thats well documented here on the scrapper forums to be chock full of awesomesauce. There's a reason every other post seems to be asking about one of the two sets.

I've also got a couple willpower scrappers and brutes and it's hard to go wrong there as well, granted there is no shield charge, but it's still a strong secondary. With scrapper primaries, it's really hard to make a bad choice. Chose whatever you think you will have the most fun with, a good concept/costume matched with */* scrapper powers and your set. Good luck to you, and I feel sorry for your tank, you'll likely never play him again.

"Teams" are those guys that jump around, act all tough and kill a few guys in those few seconds while your waiting for Lightning Rod, Shield Charge and Fireball to light back up.
  18. Thanks for letting me tag along and drop a few arrows into corpses.

No deaths on either run, then again, I stayed pretty high above the action most of the night. Boost Range FTW!!!
  19. If you still have room, I'd like to join ya.

    Black Shaft, level 45 Archer.

    LOL

Thanks, I needed that this morning.
  21. Let me be direct, if you're interested in PVE and all that that entails (content, EB/AV's, rikti challenges, farming, TF's) you want FM/SD out of the ones you've decided on. Fire Melee has one of the best single target attack chains out there and very respectable AoE with FSC. No mitigation to speak of, but compensates with more damage (fire DoT) and is less resistable damage type in regards to alot of the endgame. Shield Defense is the shiny new toy, the big daddy of the defense sets and substantially boosts you're offensive capabilities while at the same time being top notch in the defense department. You'll be able to softcap your defenses later in the build, but can get it to levels where a single purple inspiration will easily softcap you for little investment while leveling up. You'll love Shield Charge, nothing more can be said, it's a deal sealer.

PvP, thats a whole nuther ball of wax. Defense is close to meaningless and targeted AoE's are worthless as targets don't stand still. From what I've seen, /Regen is king here.

    This.

I gotta say that while leveling up I liked it quite a bit. I'f I was coming up on a big EBoss fight or something I pop it up and the added resistance and recovery seemed noticeable with a very minor endurance crash at the end. As I closed in on 50, hit the defense softcap, and had some strong choices to chose from in the epic pools to round out my toon better, I ended up dropping it and never missed it.
  24. I generally go with hurdle, unless I chose hover or flight for a travel power and then swift will speed those up. Since the release of ninja run, I actually respecced out of travel powers all together on a couple toons and saved myself a couple power picks.

Something else to keep in mind, there are some IO's out there that will increase run speed, and you can also go for the commuter day job by logging off in a train station and that will also get you even more run speed. Ninja run + sprint + the speed boost you get from one of the safeguard missions + speed from IO's is quite fast. Throw in hurdle for some vertical love and a jetpack for those needed flights, plus a good half dozen free teleport powers from various places and you're set.
