Just came back and time for a new scrapper!

Okay, after being away from the game for a while, I have come back and I am itching to roll a new scrapper. I basically have it narrowed it down to four choices, and I would like some input on them:

Fiery Melee/Fiery Aura
Fiery Melee/Shield Defense
Electrical Melee/Electric Armor
Electrical Melee/Shield Defense

I really only have three major concerns with these choices: will Fiery Aura/Electric Armor give me enough protection, does Shield Defense's Mez protection being on a recharge timer hurt me in any way (as opposed to it being a toggle), and will Electric Melee dish out enough damage for me to solo.

I like Fire/Shield myself. Tons of AOE and top tier single target damage as well. You'll need to IO out the character to hit the softcap, but once that happens you really are a juggernaut of destruction. Electric/Shield is also great, I've just never really liked the electric set outside of lightning rod. For secondaries, Fiery Aura is great for damage but will be more squishy and harder to supplement with IO's. Same with Electric Aura. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input so far guys! I think I am going to go with Fiery Melee as a primary, but I guess I should have been a little more specific in asking questions about the secondaries. So I am wondering how Fiery Aura, Shield Defense, and Electric Armor fare in the following situations:

PVE Leveling (Mostly Soloing)
EB/AV Soloing
PVP Combat

PVE Leveling (Mostly Soloing)

any combo can do this easily

EB/AV Soloing

any combo can do EB's easily, but the shield's with a high budget is best suited for AV's and out of the fire or electic prime, fire is more ST damage than electric

PVP Combat

not all too well versed in the PvP area but i know def gets borked in it, out of yer choices , fire/fire has the highest burst damage in the game with BU+FE, but it does lack a "god" mode tier9 which */ele has, as well as its end draining potential in several powers such as Power Sink which is vicious in PvP

Let me be direct, if you're interested in PVE and all that that entails (content, EB/AV's, rikti challenges, farming, TF's) you want FM/SD out of the ones you've decided on. Fire Melee has one of the best single target attack chains out there and very respectable AoE with FSC. No mitigation to speak of, but compensates with more damage (fire DoT) and is less resistable damage type in regards to alot of the endgame. Shield Defense is the shiny new toy, the big daddy of the defense sets and substantially boosts you're offensive capabilities while at the same time being top notch in the defense department. You'll be able to softcap your defenses later in the build, but can get it to levels where a single purple inspiration will easily softcap you for little investment while leveling up. You'll love Shield Charge, nothing more can be said, it's a deal sealer.

PvP, thats a whole nuther ball of wax. Defense is close to meaningless and targeted AoE's are worthless as targets don't stand still. From what I've seen, /Regen is king here.

I love my Fire/Shield, not so much my Fire/Fire. /Fire works great as a Tank set where you have higher base hit points, but I feel I little squishy as a scrapper.
