    Mystery Origin?

I think you guys are mixing up stuff Stan Lee said with things Alex Ross and his collaborators put forth in Earth X and it's sequels. Earth X was where the "everyone is a latent mutant" thing came from, and as far as I know it's not considered to be in continuity with the rest of Marvel's stuff. Stan's known for "they're all mutants" because when he originally created the X-Men he didn't want to have to figure out a plausible origin for all these characters. "They're all mutants" both created an interesting platform for social commentary and saved Stan a lot of work figuring out where everyone got their powers from. It wasn't a universe-wide thing, it was just a shortcut to make launching another team book less of a pain in the neck.

So I know what they are doing... i just don't know whether they are worth the read since I already know what happens in them in general (Linkara spoils stuff!)
In that case, I'd defnitely say yes in the case of Infinite Crisis, and probably yes in the case of 52. What I've read of 52 is good, but I haven't read enough to really say "Yeah, go for it".

Bite that tongue, son. Vengeance was awesome.

The Jonah Hex movie, not so awesome.

Or maybe Game Informer is a crappy magazine that very, very few people take remotely seriously, especially when it comes to games on platforms other than PS3 or 360. Seriously, anyone who hasn't figured out yet that Game Informer is a rag isn't going to know the difference between Cryptic, Paragon Studios, NCSoft, Double Fine, or their own ******** anyway. I get where the OP's coming from, but this is like trying to convince the National Enquirer to publically admit that the president doesn't really take advice from space aliens.

Oh god, I might have to actually go to the Big E now. Been there twice and this is the first I've heard of this artery-clogging masterpiece.

    Mystery Origin?

Truthfully, I don't really pay any attention to the origin people have listed for their characters. Why bother? Anyone who wants to RP will be able to convey the relevant information through RP and their character's look. Outside of RP I don't see how origin is relevant. It's a useless tag at best and a misleading oversimplification at worst, so it's best ignored IMO.
  7. I really liked Infinite Crisis a lot, despite not having read Crisis on Infinite Earths or being terribly familiar with DC's stuff in general at the time. Crisis on Infinite Earths is good, but the dialogue hasn't aged well IMO. Reading it wouldn't be a bad idea, but if you don't want to do that you could just hit wikipedia and get all the information you need to understand Infinite Crisis. No comment on 52, as I haven't read enough of it to really form an opinion.
  8. A Fistfull of Dollars. I forget whether this one is PG-13 or R, but by modern standards it's tough for me to imagine someone who'd be OK with today's PG-13 flicks objecting to it. Great filmmaking in a style you don't see often in today's mainstream films, and still entertaining enough to keep most people's attention.
  9. Great concept, as evidenced by the fact that I was toying around with a VG concept that's almost identical. Damn you guys. :P
  10. I'm not sure they're still active, but if they are check out The Order. Great people, never had anything but good experiences with them. I haven't really bumped into any of them since coming back to the game, so I couldn't say how many of them are still around, but they're worth going to extra trouble to see what they're up to these days.
  11. Strengths: Cool, well-thought out concepts that just come out of left field. Fast, entertaining dialogue and immediate responses to in-the-moment RP. Being entertaining for others to RP with is something I work at, and I think it pays off.

Weakness: I'm crap when it comes to RP stories. My SGmates are probably very ready to vouch for that. I'm intensely self-critical about my writing, and also very sensitive about it, so it's tough to come up with something that makes the cut in my eyes and then be comfortable putting it out there for people to read.
  12. I don't think you have to tell Steam to launch in offline mode anymore, since the last patch attempting to fix it I'm pretty sure it'll automatically go into offline mode if you try to launch a game and don't have an internet connection. It does for me anyway, and since the last time they patched it I haven't heard from anyone saying it didn't work for them.

I don't actually use Steam and refuse to have it on my computer (don't try and talk me into it, I don't want it. Period). Just going by what I've heard.
When it comes to Steam, you kind of have to take it case by case; some games have other DRM removed for their Steam versions, some don't. Some are weird about it; Borderlands, for example, has no other DRM on Steam, but the first two of it's DLC packs have SecuROM. The third and any they come out with from here on in are DRM-free on Steam, but use SecuROM if you buy them elsewhere.

It's something that's decided by the publisher, not by Valve, so depending on which game and which publisher you're talking about their choices in this area may or may not make sense.
  14. Too bad you didn't post this a couple days ago, Gamersgate had the Mass Effect games on sale yesterday or the day before. I forget which. Granted, I think their version of ME1 has SecuROM, so you wouldn't have wanted it anyway. As far as I know though, ME2 is DRM-free on all platforms.

I'm pretty sure the new Cryptic engine is a completely new engine, or pretty close to it. It doesn't even use the same API as the old one.
  16. There's a new edition coming out soon with a ton more teams, so you may want to think twice before spending the money on this version. It is a great game, though.

That's really well said. Thanks, I've been looking for the precise words to express that for a while, for reasons having nothing to do with this bullcrap article. And that's what it is, of course. This dude is clueless.

I'd even say that's putting it lightly. Has any PvP-oriented MMO other than Eve Online actually been successful? Shadowbane bombed. WAR bombed. Age of Conan seems to have found a niche, but I'm not sure it's PvP has a whole lot to do with it. And every FPS that picks up persistent RPG elements (CoD/MW being the obvious example) diminishes whatever potential market there is even further.
  19. Good odds I'll be out that night, but if not I'll likely drop by. With booze, of course.
  20. Powerlifter. Great band, and their stuff is free, 100% legally. Buffalo is their "single", so to speak, but Obsolete's becoming one of my favorite songs very quickly.

*nod* I agree, I know a pretty good number of geeks and most of them would be willing to admit it if they pirated this movie, but no one has. I think a lot of it is down to people outside geek culture not understanding it; they see the sheer number of geeks on the internet compared to non-geeks and they think there must be an army of geeks out there just waiting to spend money on geek stuff. They don't get that almost every geek is on the internet in some way, while most non-geeks aren't really. What they see on the net isn't a percentage of us from which they can estimate how many of us there really are; this is pretty much all of us.

I don't think the story Scott blurts out is supposed to be actually how it went, most of what he describes Simon Lee doing didn't actually happen in either the animated short or the comic. He's just blurting out something sarcastic because he's pissy at Ramona.

I dunno, I read that an unusually huge chunk of change was spent on the cast. I forget where I read that, so take it with a grain of salt, but supposedly the higher profile supporting actors made a LOT more money than one normally would for a small part.

Kick-*** isn't really a great example either, as it more than made up for it's lackluster box office in DVD and Blu-Ray sales. It's made money hand over fist once you factor that in.

God yeah, the Merc is amazing. I don't even use the profiling software with it, just the board works for me. I use it along with a Logitech 518 gaming mouse, and use both more or less equally in CoH and other non-FPS games.
