Woah...what's up with your SQL server thing? That's using atleast 3x what City's using.

This I like alot, but the AT section looks a bit wordy. Let the character creator be the players introduction to things like Ranged, Melee, etc (if they didn't already know what they meant).

Yes yes, but atleast you know you hit a nerve. ;-)

    So my suggestion:...
While I'm sure the technology is there, this sounds way too complicated and (while the data would redirect) feels redundant. Nice try though as it's Very detailed!

As it is, those divisions are straight-forward and simple.
Merge them and it becomes a guessing game as to where what belongs and so on.
I completely understand the desire to compress things, but that particular method seems like a wrong move to me.
This + the character creator has this kind of division (which I assume is what you're trying to mimic) and it seems beyond redundant to most of us there so why here?

I don't particularly view it as pigeonholing, simply as...well...simplifying. There's a rather large amount of forums to sift through here on our boards, and to a new, or even veteran player who hasn't spent time on the forums, it's a bit confusing.

Forums should be easy to understand at a glance.
Classifying say Brutes and Tankers as the only "Tank Class" class is kind of short sited as there are many toons on the servers that "Tank" even though they are Controllers or Defenders.
  7. Just curious, but how many Trollers and/or MM's are on your teams? ;-)

Heh, well if you're Going to go there...

It definitely says something about hiring standards and coding experience. That said, the tool's been down for what a month now?

    Copy Tool Down?

Obviously it's still down, but can we atleast get a confirmation that it's possibly related to Test being locked or perhaps the recovery of the tool being timed with the unlocking of Test?

This was the part I liked about the previous addons. I bought something on a list and knew I had whatever unlocks were available. Now I have a beta version of a store that won't even tell me that I really do own something And what that is (unless I'm in the character creation screen).
  11. *jaw drops, runs away screaming*

So yeah you'll likely have a bunch of unknown globals too depending on who's on your gfriend's list, etc as people have been using their freeby change token as they slowely return to the game.

Same dif or even better since you have virtual machine builtin.
  13. Got drunk and fell into the french quarter (server) again did we?
  14. It probably has something to do with whatever language/code/etc that they're using for transfers. My main has an apostrophe. I went away for almost a year, came back and noticed that they'd done some sort of renaming thing so I had to correct the name, but if I looked at the character data it still shows a screwed up name.

    It's something like this:

In many languages this character // is treated as a commenting bracket. So if I wanted to display a single /, then I had to do something like this ///. It's been a while so that may not be exactly right, but it's close enough to prove the point. Basically if they let the character stay in the name during the xfer, then something BAD would likely happen like say the character file gets corrupted and you lose it all together.

As an aside, I run CoH on my Macbook Air (2nd ed, the dual core version, not the i3\5) and it runs on Lion perfectly. Or at least no worse than CoH runs on a PC as far as I can tell.

As a 2nd aside, as long as your Mac is Intel based you should have no problem running Snow Leopard. I have Snow Leopard installed on an original Macbook with no issues. I wouldn't want to run CoH on it mind, but that's just a minimum spec issue.
Heh, there's nothing saying that you couldn't just as easily pickup a cheap copy of XP and throw a windows partition on there just for the game if you're Really worried. :-p

Your Mac must be a bit older than that. I think that's awesome you can still run the game. I have a PC that's 8 years old, and I laugh at the idea of running COH on it. Just saying...
It's a PPC system so gaming is out of the Q. :-/

Granted, my cellphone's probably more powerful anyway. :-D

Because the more content they add, the more sprites and pretties they input, the more chances for your system, the nets, etc to choke on a few of them.

The Metro thing is basically windows 8 in 'tablet' mode.
Correct, it's the DP version as beta's not out (so far as I know) and until I'm prepared to completely rework my puter (you Really don't wanna know >.<), then I'm going to have to wait until later to actually test it. As for the 'tablet mode', from what I saw that's the only mode their is. From the looks of it the windows desktop is going to become what DOS used to be, the power under the hood, while the interactive part of the OS turns into this ugly Windows Phone 7 that I've already blocked from memory.

Heh, I've already found One bug just trying to install the bloody thing. I just wish I could install it to my USB HDD so I could still test it :-/. :-p
  22. From a coding perspective...here's my Metaphore :-p

The porter functions by plugging in the destination. It does its job nomatter what key you put in the hole so long as it's coded correctly (IE: destination exists). If the destination key is coded improperly, then the porter will simply respond to the system that there's an error and maybe then to the user. Simply put, the arcane 'key' is still coded for the old destination, thus preventing the porter from performing it's function. The fundamental change needs to be performed on the arcane 'key'.

Once I learned of the porter issue, then it dawned on me that the other base issue could be related as well so hopefully they'll solve them together (and repair the damage >.<).

Honestly when I first heard about this bug (and hadn't known about the Ouro GC) I thought people were getting sent to the new tutorial via the tech porter.
  23. From FB:

the upgrades may be cheaper, but not everybody can run Snow Leopard. I didn't purchase it for that reason, but my PPC is stuck at the OS9/Leopard dual boot. that said, all this means is that should the game need to be modified to retain com...patibility with Snow leopard in such a way that it becomes no longer compatible with leopard, then a major upgrade would be in order on the user's part. Since apple has chosen the intel path, then I highly doubt that there is going to be a point (soon) that the game will become totally incompatible.
  24. "Scotty, have you Always multiplied your repair estimates by a factor of four?"

The tech teleporter sends you to Echo: Galaxy City, which is how I understand its supposed to work.
I Thought I understood that, but maybe this could be rephrased so that half asleep wanderers can understand. ;-P

EDIT: nm, add that to the list of things I didn't know was possible...using the base to TP to an Ouro location.
