Quote:And very heretical.Except that the shapeshifting AT idea does work, particularly in the case of Warshades. It needs some love, particularly in the area of animation times, but it's far from failure. Scrapping the concept around which the AT is based, however.. that is fail. Not to mention a violation of the cottage rule on a huge scale.
Quote:It seems like you don't really know that much about these ATs.
Quote:To be clear, I am not saying these ATs are perfect, but neither are they unplayable, fail, or whatever label you might care to use.
Quote:Provided the player builds and plays them for what they are instead of trying to shoehorn them into a role they don't fit, they work very nicely.
Quote:Warshades in particular can dominate the battlefield and that's before any signifcant IOs go in. After IOs, well, see Dechs' guide.
Quote:PBs do need more help, but even so I think claiming that the shapeshifting mechanic needs to be thrown out is not only an extreme reaction but a nonsensical one. While I respect those who play human-only builds and have one myself, I think most would agree that the shapeshifting mechanic is what makes Kheldians unique and different. The solution is to fix and improve it, not remove it. -
Its why I said a different philosophy in that the whole shape shifting AT idea is fail (save for maybe lightform, which seems like an unstoppable power from Invulnerability power set)
-
That is part of the problem. You shouldn't need to be IO'd out with set bonus to be functional. Either way. I do not mind if the ideas being shot down or not, or even disagreed with. To see people passionate about it is heart warming.
-
Kheldians are unpopular. When most play one, they do not feel epic. It often feels and plays weaker then the characters they started with before they opened up this archetype.
After some thought and playing a kheldian for a long while, I have come to some radical ideas that might make this Archetype epic fun, instead of epic work.
This might be heretic for some, including myself, as I love the whole tri-form kheldian of mine, but it may be time for a whole new philosophy to take place.
1. While shape-changing can be fun, as a function and mechanic, it just not working out. The animations take too long and shifting to either nova or dwarf locks out everything else the character can do. If we just drop those two forms all together, we can focus on balancing out our human (or humanoid) powers.
2. Absorption/Incandescnce - Largely ignored and never slotted power that every kheldian is force to take at level one. With the above idea (#1), perhaps we can make this power useful. With the dwarf form gone, we could make this into the kheldian mez resist power.
As stretched as power slotting for this archetype can be, at least it would give this power a use and function without the other powers needing to be remade or redone completely.
3. With the form switching gone (the forms that are focus on range damage - nova and damage resist/protections - dwarf ), the damage resist shield powers and damaging powers can finally get the boost they need by upping the power values to balance out the loss of those two forms.
It is my belief, with these changes, this archetype could finally deserve its title Heroic Epic Archetype. -
I think we should celebrate the fact we have a good RP gather place in Pocket D. I like we have a place we call all gather peacefully, And if we have characters that want to fight, there is arena right near by. And space monkey fighting.. .. and so on.
Those who are complaining about the place, in my opinion, you are being way too picky. It is a big place, plenty of space to RP (whatever flavor it might be). More importantly, it is a central place for RPers to gather. This fact should be important, as a lot of other games out there just do not have this. Also, it is not level restricted.
While yes, there are plenty of other places to RP at, and I know have done so many a time, the value of having pocket D as a central RP place so you know where to go to start looking for like minded RPers is priceless. We would be far too segregated otherwise and would make it hard to be an active population culture type in the server as it is now.
I am not one of those people that hides away in a Super Group Base only plays with short list of friends. Being out there, with random people with random RPing is where it is at and always have been. Its the only way RP community can continue and grow. -
I really hate to bring things like this to light, but for those of us that like to make videos with or about City of Heroes should really pay attention to this horrible bill that is slowly come to pass.

This is an excellent Video explaining it all as well as links to inform you about. Please take a good look. -
If you are making a tri-form peacebringer, it just isn't worth it. It does not function in the Dwarf or Nova forms and one can easily get by without it for a bit in your humanoid form with using the conserve power or popping some endurance inspirations (if really needed). But by then, you can switch to a different form and continue on the fight. It is more or less how the tri-form fighting style works.

Such sorrow we face at your departing. We shall party hardy to celebrate what you have brought to your fellow players.

Vote me in for wanting more costume slots for my characters.

I had loads of fun, looking forward to doing more of these.

Quote:There are crazy amount of RP superhero groups out there. Some are weekend gathers, others are more 24/7, but there is a group for everyone or groups. Some may advertise, others not so much and invite by personal encounters only. Off the top of my head. . .Are there still any active modern age RP heavy superhero SGs out there? Like the JLA or Avengers, pretty much. But without Bendis or James Robinson. >.>
If so, praytell who?

And I do an injustice for not mentioning others that I have come across. But you get the idea. . . just keep yourself open and they'll come to you. -
Quote:My only suggestion is to avoid the people that are annoying you in the first place. (Or just turn broadcast off or to a different chat of its own.) Pocket D is visited by a vast amount of friendly role players who enjoy the company of others, even if their characters have conflicting views.Just curious why is the vast majority of people in the Pocket D, hatefilled spewing on about people's race sexual preference you name it. For this being a supposed roleplaying community this shocks me. Or is there better place find like minded individuals? If so point me to this place.
The way to attract the role play you want is to do such role play yourself and it will attract the wanted role play you are interested in. The social skills it requires might not be easy for everyone, but it is skills needed non the less for the positive interactions to come about.
Do I get annoyed by people talking out of character without brackets or some other method of showing they are talking out of character, yes. Very easily so, but I try not to be rude about it, letting them know what is up. Usually it is no big deal and people move on.
But there seems to be an increase of non-role players that are aggressive and right out rude to role players and their requests. In turn, a lot of players have become more defensive because of it. Even to minor things that could be passed off. Which in turn fuels the negative spin some non-role players have on the role playing. (Ironic, since they are flying around as super heroes in the first place.) Certain players are just trying to preserve the role playing haven that is Virtue that they have come to love. -
Oh thread, our time was short, but I got to know you well. A brief passing in the multitude of posts, you shall be fondly remembered But fear not, it was with purpose and pose, with a happy end.

Darn, wish I saw this post earlier, I was there GenCon 2008.

Hello all,
I am posting here because of all the post that was made of last years gencon, and how everyone loved it. I just got wind that NC Soft was not going to be doing a booth at the 2008 Gencon. I am posting this to maybe help NcSoft to remember how much everyone appreciated the meet and greets last year and getting to know everyone else. The reason was that they were not comming was because they was not showing any new items. I do hope that they reconsider, and come join us for gencon 2008.
How many CoX's players are planning on coming? I will be making my 8 hr drive to Indy this year. If anyone has any ideas on somewhere we can get together please say so here or start a new thread. I would but I am not familiar with Indy enough to reserve a room to do this in. I think we will need a pretty good size room because last year they were saying that they would need bigger rooms for next year(2008). So if you are familiar with Indy please step up and lets get a meet and greet together and show NcSoft what they have started and show them that we want it to continue.
Thanks all and I hope to see everyone there.
Brian

I wish to apologize in advance if I offend anyone, but I am now a 'smitten kitten' to the extremely beautiful woman in one of the photos (far right in photo link below).

As a side note. . . yes, I am the lucky guy that is in the picture with them both -
I had said something similar in another post not too long ago, but basically this: It was by far one of the greatest times I have had in my life. To meet so many people and to make so many new friends, its going to keep me real busy making alts on everyone's home servers
To the Cryptic crew -- you know how to make people feel right at home. It was like having meet long lost friends you never knew you had.
For the local people here with me in Indy, hope we can get together sometime again. For those that made the distance, looking forward to battling side by side in City of Heroes (or Villains). Who knows, might make the distance myself to visit!
