  1. That's a fairly large assumption. You ever been to prison, Golden Girl?
  2. Closer to brainwashing than mind control. They're as much forced to work for the Rikti as they are forced to have dinner out of a garbage bin. They make a choice . . . though there's not much in the way of alternatives. In either case, death is likely the only other option available to them.
  3. Please, stop multi-posting.
All of that could have just been placed in a single message.
  4. Oh, and I know it's not exactly his call in the end, but here's what BackAlleyBrawler had to add: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...rt#post2328344
  5. As a counter, rian, think of it this way:
"I just got away with robbing a little old lady! Sure, I may have been burnt/punched/necro'd . . . but I got instant medical care, a lawyer who got me off the hook in no time, and I'm back on the street. I'MMA DO IT AGAIN!"

If someone committed the crime in the first place, and had no lasting repercussions they're not about to change their tune because they felt a little* pain.
Just look at real-world criminals and their ilk. Guys who get in to bloody bar room brawls, having multiple bones broken and severe haemorrhaging all for "fun." They get out of the hospital, recover, and go right back to what they always did: broken bones and hemoraging.

Living in the downtown district of a city with a population of over 5 million, this kind of behaviour is extremely common right here in the real world. City of Heroes / City of Villains has just upped the degree which the violence and the recovery occur.

    * "little" being subjective.

    New GR video! :D

Which partially touches upon what I was trying to say about it: If this is for new audiances, why are they painting a picture so different from the one they painted me when I first joined?

. . . I didn't just ask that. No such words were typed. Nothing to see here.
Not until the video is released, at least . . .
  7. I certainly don't play THIS game for fun!
I'm a hopeless addict. I need my fix, or I get the jones REAL BAD!
  8. While not technically buildings, I would like to see an organic landscape along the lines of Charnel's lands from the game Sacrifice.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xiyGLWjkNc (I suggest muting, as the guy 'offering commentary' may be NSFW)

Obviously don't just rip them off, heh. But I think it would be great if you could try Sacrifice, and let its surreal style inspire you!
At least for a few art assets for a zone or two.
Perhaps the CoH / CoV Netherworld?

Sacrifice is available through Steam and Good Old Games for a very reasonable price, and well worth it. The gameplay is a lot like playing a Mastermind, heh.
  9. That was an awful lot of firsts . . .

The canonical value of the comics has been called in to question on numerous occasions. I'm not sure I'm remembering it correctly, but there was some sort of hierarchy of canon. Foremost: Anything in-game. Then anything the Devs say in an official capacity. Then the Web of Arachnos novel. Then the comics. Then anything the Devs say in an unofficial capacity. And finally, any other official merchandising or lore materials.
I kind of like to view the comics as having taken place in a dimensional shard which is inaccessible to players. It all happened, but in a version of "reality" which isn't necessary the "realities" in which we are currently playing.
As a contrary source, however, the City of Villains Beta suggests that the Freedom Phallanx invaded the Rogue Isles, largely unprovoked.

. . . welllllllllll, I mean, there was that whole thing about Arachnos assault the Zig prison and busting out a ton of meta-powered beings who had been incarcerated.

    New GR video! :D

Well Mod 8, there were the beginnings of an interesting discussion on the content that can not be discussed at this time in a thread which is now gone.
Was that other thread completely deleted, or moved beyond our reach? If the latter, would it be possible (after the official release of the video) to bring that thread back?

Someone asked me a question there, which I never got to answer . . .
  11. Well, it is effectively canon that pretty much all villain factions, even the simple gangs, have access to medical care of some sort. Whether hi-jacked medi-ports, homemade medi-ports, or Zig medi-ports, virtually all villain groups using living human recruits have some sort of contingency plan to survive death (at least on the blue-side. Not sure how all those Hellions and Skulls survive in the Rogue Isles).

Couple with that the likely possiblity that even after the Rikti invasions, the population of Paragon City is likely in the millions. Let's pull a random, and rather small number: Say about 5 million. Let's argue that 1 million of those are too old, and 2 million are too young to be part of any of the villain groups. Then let's say only 10% of the remaining pool have chosen to live their lives of crime. That's still 200,000 people. That's not including villains who immigrate (such as Malta personnel).
  12. . . . he was a late bloomer?
A very, very, VERY late bloomer?
  13. Who are the judges, and what criteria are being used for the process?
  14. Yaaa . . . forget all those requests for NEW newspaper/PPD radio missions . . .
Let's just have the Devs fix these ones first.

I mean, not that I don't enjoy the occasional laugh, but those laughs should be brought on by something intentional in a professional piece of work like this, I think.
  15. It could be a matter of which web browsers each of you are using. I suspect it wouldn't be supported by something like Internet Explorer 6.
  16. I KNOW there was a "Captain Mako" (or maybe just "Mako") Redname during the City of Villains Beta, treboreleets. As I recall, the user of that name had a position similar to that of Sean Fish's at the time: Game Lore.

    Then again, I've been proven to have a revisionist's memory before . . .
  17. Well, maybe he formed it when he was 12, as a sort of "Super Awesome Boys' Club! (no baddies allow'd)" then actually got the government sanction for it when he was 19?
  18. What have you people got against twelve year olds?!

. . . well, aside from what they do on VOIP servers . . .
  19. If my playstyle is mirroring my lifestyle, then I'm severely schizophrenic.

*suddenly glances over Its shoulder* WHOSAIDTHAT?! . . .

    Happy Geek Day

I don't know if circus sideshow 'freaks' are a common enough thing nowadays to warrent the continued use of 'geek' for them. Especially since there seems to be a claim of pride in using the term 'freak' ever since that old black and white film.
See, I always distinguished nerds as being socially awkward geeks, by the modern-day abundant definitions.

    . . . well, ok. /Especially/ socially awkward.
  21. Kinda getting hung up on a strange thing there, Lisar, aren't you?

Whether or not the Devs said it first, I can attest to BlackArachnia's sentiment being valid. Some forumites leap down others' throats whenever a subject is brought up which those particular forumites consider a 'dead horse.' It's quite common, even if the specific examples which BlackArachnia listed don't have abundant source material to prove her point.

Ps: Apologies for my assumption of your gender, BlackArachnia. I was merely basing it off of my fondness for Beasties / Beast Wars.
  22. Danke.

Though, if you really want me to compile a list of reasons why you might not want to give me anything, I could give that a shot. Probably won't be pretty . . .
  23. Buffs are intrinsically designed to be cast on other players, including those at random. Buffing others are the designed function of a substancial number of powers. People who Buff you at random are just playing the game the way it's designed, and most likely have no concept of their conduct as being anything other than helpful. Yes, even after you tell them otherwise. Telling a Buffer to not buff is like telling a Blaster to not deal damage.

Powers which were seen as actually exploitable or harmful to the gaming experience of others, such as Rescucitate powers and Recall powers, were modified to include permission slips.
In strictly gameplay terms, there is no downside to getting buffed. It's likely extremely unfaesible for the Devs to modify existing code to make Buffs optional, particularly when those Buffs are not being used to disrupt the game in a measureable way. It comes down to personal preference of the players.

The best workaround that I can offer: Play on a low-population server to reduce your chances of random buffs.
Or, alternatively, if it's the multiplayer experience this game is offering you which is getting you down, consider an alternative game. Something with a private server, perhaps.
  24. Danke, Askcroft.
And assuming there wouldn't be any problems from the rest of the Dev Team, I'd probably have four sockpuppets named:
    Tomdala, Ullutay, M'Teru, and Rambetu.
Of course, if anyone legitimately wanted those as Red Names after the fact, I'd give 'em up in a heartbeat. Better to have actual Devs posting with them, than just ensuring the entire Pantheon is represented.
