After trying to show the new wormhole to some of my SG mates, my jaw dropped when the power didn't scatter the mobs to the four winds from knockback - it piled them up neatly into a disoriented, knockdown-ed heap!
I was actually kind of stunned for a bit - looks like I can really use this as a control power. No need for a wall/obstacle to push the mobs against even, like we had to on test. It's quite powerful and manipulable in it's current live form.
And I have a respec so I can figure out how to work teleport foe into my build again.
whistles happily,

I'm still of the firm opinion that it would be much better to add an AOE disorient to Propel, to give us our second AOE control power. it comes in at a much earlier level and doesn't change the functionality of the wormhole. (I prefer the old version)

Mark my words. "The new wormhole is here to stay." Its has most of the same usefulness+extra power and control. If you dont like it, you are prolly a lowbie controller using it instead of tp foe...
[/ QUOTE ]
Well if they do change it I can get used to it. The knockback will be kind of a bother though. I still like the old single target wormhole better, and wish they would change something else other than the old wormhole.
I'm a high level controller, and I use wormhole instead of TP Foe. Wormhole is much more flexible since you can actually more target levels with it. TP Foe is limited to -4 Bosses, even-level Lieutenants, and +10 minions (problem with the 1st 2, not much problem with the 3rd limitation.)

While tanking yesterday, me and fayt decided something. The regens are actually not part of melee, I mean, we don't really work with the healing blanket, we watch over the hami's aggro. So we decided there was this:
Blasters, Healers, Controllers and Melee
And of course, the regen which, Fayt and I had decided, will be called Friggin' Hot awesome pimps... or awesomes for short.
SO What do the FHAPs get to wear?
[/ QUOTE ]
Since you don't actually interact with the healing umbrella, it doesn't matter what colors you wear technically... But in order for people to see the raid-costumes in action, you should be wearing melee black as well, so that the other raiders can be more inspired to wear the raid costumes. You guys have an important role and eyes will be on you.
You can put a red and white bulls-eye on your chest if it makes you feel better.
Unofficially, a Hot Pink suit is a good idea too, yes, and a wide brimmed hat with an ostrich feather... maybe an afro. straight out of the 70s... Thanks Ladymer for the suggestion.

Upsen, quick question: I'm building my tanker so he'll have Ring of Fire six-slotted for Hammy so I can help out with the holds. Can I still stick with the Black and Grey costume and then jump with the controllers to hold? Or would I have to switch to a purple costume? Because purple is most definately NOT my color.
[/ QUOTE ]
Purple is a controller colour, so as a melee you won't be wearing purple. You'll be wearing the black/grey of the melees.
There is't a specific color for holds, since there isn't a need to differentiate them for the organizational or mito clearing phases.
However, Ring of Fire is an immobilize power, not a hold power, isn't it? If you ring of fire something, they can still fire back, so it's not technically a hold. Char, on the other hand, is a hold power, where they are completely unable to attack or do anything. So set Char up for six slotting if you want to be a holds character for the hamidon raids.
Just don't stop holding when damage is called, cause it could be your 1 hold that is making or breaking the raid.

Choose a slightly darker green, but not so dark that people can't tell it's green.
Does that make it better? 8)
Try using a pattern instead of a soild green-everything on your upper body... take a look at the samples again, and some of them you'll see are patterned. There's also been some nice examples from other raiders.

The old version 2 one actually dropped off the boards, and I had to reconstruct it from an old copy of the original version 1.

Sample Raid Costumes:
http://photobucket.com/albums/v283/U...id%20Uniforms/
Raid Uniforms - by Upsen Downs
-------------------------------
To aid with the organization of the raid, Raid Uniforms will be used.
This will allow you to tell who the raid leaders are, where to find others
of the same AT as you, and who can raise your defeated team-mates
back into action. The raid leadership can quickly tell at a glance if the right
heroes are in the right place, and makes overall planning much easier
as well.
Costume Style:
---------------
A good choice is all-defaults plus...
* Head: Full Armor - Helm 2
* Upper body: Chest: Flack 1 or Tights 1
* Pants: Tight - Tights 1 + Stripe 1
You are not limited to this setup only, as long as the colors are obvious...
A low polygon-count costume is the best option.
Take out extra polygons that can cause lag.
Suggestions of items not to wear are:
- Capes
- Auras
- Hair (wear a helmet with no extra detail polygons)
- Robot arms with extra polygons and hoses (cover it up with a sleeker shell)
- Shoulder pads (you might poke an eye out)
- Tails (tuck them in, please)
- Any item that can be replaced with a "None" on the selection list.
If you absolutely *have* to have a detail, then no one's stopping you, but
please be considerate and choose as few items as possible.
Costume Color:
---------------
1. Pick two unmistakable shades based on your Archetype. Leave the
copy-colors option selected for now. These colors mostly follow the
color of your AT icon.
* Red - Blasters
* Blue - Defenders
* Purple - Controllers
* Black&Grey - Scrappers / Tanks
A bright color in the middle of the chart (#5 or 6) is a good one for
a main color.
A darker color to the left of the chart (#3 or 4) is a good secondary color.
* Kheldians - select an AT color that your human form powers reflect.
2. To identify special powers, uncheck the copy-colors option, and
make the following changes:
Change helmet, chest & leg stripe:
* Green - Debuffer: rad, dark, storm, -end electric blasters, blizzard blasters.
* Orange - Fulcrum Shift buffer: kinetic defenders and controllers.
* White - Empathy Defenders (add a red cross on your chest if you'd like)
* Decoy Grey - Illusion controllers who are participating in the aerial decoy drop to distract Hamidon. Please use the same light greyish-blue shade that your decoys are.
* Bright Yellow whole body - Raid Leadership.
...and that's it! Now you will be able to tell who does what at the raid.
Happy costuming! Spread the word.
Upsen.
p.s. If you need help with the color selections, please send a message
titled "Costume Help" to me: "Upsen Downs" or "@Upsen Downs" ingame,
"Upsen_Downs" on the forums.
v3 edits:
- added Tights 1 as a recommended torso option
- added entry for Illusion Controllers. no sample graphic yet but I'll have one up soon.
- removed entry for Rangefinder, since they are specificed by friendlist
and they tend to be assigned at the raid, not before it. -

edit - and it still doens't really answer anything about what's happening with the non-combat system. Is it on hold for a future issue I guess? -
[ QUOTE ]
I think it's a card game like in Final Fantasy 8/9. You play with other players, get cards from villians and from defeated player, cards can be combined into Enhancements, and you get some experience for winning (in some non-exploitable way...).
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, one way they could do it is you can take your debt and gamble it away literally - you win, you pass off some of your debt onto the loser.
I haven't heard anything about the noncombat system in ages. What's happening with it? :P
Upsen. -
[ QUOTE ]
Not that I'm complaining really, but why?
Debt is hardly even a penalty, and now it's being mitigated further? Perhaps I'm alone here, but I don't get it.
[/ QUOTE ]
No matter how little debt the system assigns you, someone will always complain about it to try and get it lessened.
Even if there was no debt, people would complain about having to port ALL the way back to a hospital, and that they should be allowed to have a timer to stand back up or something. Then they will complain about that timer being too long.
Basically the point at which the people complaining about the debt are satisfied, is when the same people start complaining about the game being too easy. It's a no win situation, really.
Upsen. -
[ QUOTE ]
I don't quite get the debt free for 10 levels bit.. but okay, whatever.
Bizzare change...
[/ QUOTE ]
Now people get to be stupid for 10 levels instead of 5 levels. So instead of learning about caution at L5, they get to learn it at L10 when it is costly.
Also it makes low level travel less painful since you can go to the hospital at any time to shortcut your way across a zone, or out of a hazard zone like Perez, Hollows, or even a level's worth of Boomtown.

As a side note, a while back there was a kidnapped Chinese girl that there was a huge manhunt for, around Toronto, whose name was Cecilia Zhang.
The newscasters KEPT mispronouncing the name as JHONG (which sounds kind of like Hmong's 'tsoo')
(they said thong, and made a j sound instead of the t sound)
Bugged me to no end. (both the kidnapping and the pronounciation)
sorry if this is left field, I just needed to say it.

actually, the Tsoo are definately Hmong in origin. One of the pedestrian comments in Talos is "Those Tsoo make the rest of the Hmong community look bad."
I spose you could argue that pedestrian doesn't know what they are talking about, but once you start ignoring the in game info sources, then you leap off into the wonderful realm of unsupported hear-say.

One of the Skyway contacts tells you outright that they are Hmong.

But it is very obvious that THEY ARE NOT. They dress absolutely nothing like the Hmong.

I'm not quite sure how the Hmong dress, but these guys are wearing stereotypically ninja type outfits usually. And the sorcs look like they're the Furies from Big Trouble in Little China.

Interestingly enough "Tub Ci" is the leader of the "Txhu"
Tub in Hmong means "Son" (and is used in phrases to describe different groups of people like messenger and soldier) and "Ci" means bright or to shine. So his name might mean something like "The Bright Son".
[/ QUOTE ]
The Hmong descriptions makes more sense than the one I was talking about, especially with the direct reference to the Hmong from the pedestrian, and the name Tub Ci making sense in the Hmong language. I have a recollection of seeing that ingame before. I wonder which map? Talos perhaps?
Upsen. -
If you're talking about Chinese Lao Tze, Kong Fu Tze, etc... then Tze/Zi/Tzu is pronounced as "dze" and technically means person/seed/son/kid meaning. So if the Tsoo are Chinese, maybe they are "The People", "The Sons", "The Seeds" or "The Kids", none of them used quite correctly.
I still think they're Japanese Ninjas.
One meaning for Tsu in Japanese, is Harbour. (like in Tsunami, or harbour wave)
Maybe Tsu is short for something, like when you call Alexander "Alex", or Elizabeth "Liza" or "Beth"... There's many Japanese words that are very suitable for a ninja organization that starts with Tsu-.
Here's a few examples...
Tsubasa (wings)
Tsuki-nanimo (Moon-whatever)
Tsuru (Crane) there are some Tsoo that are Crane warriors right?
Tetsu (Iron)
Tetsubo (Iron club)
Tetsubishi (Caltrops) hey we're getting somewhere....
Tsu is also used as the sound effects for some things, like a running ninja, tsutsutsutsu! http://www.oop-ack.com/manga/soundfx.html
Upsen.
(while searching I also came across this page on how to say Star Trek things in Japanese that was too neat to pass up) -
[ QUOTE ]
My question on the Tsoo and the like is where they come from.
Tsoo, in and of it's self, reminds me of the Japanese "Tsu," along with the use of Ninja, which are Japanese, though the referances to the animals in their names is somewhat reminisent of Kung Fu and it's animal stances practice. However the leader Tub Ci is not able to be pronounced with Japanese sylibles, which leades me to think it's Chinese or Korean. The presence of the Sorcerers and Ancestor spirits don't solve anything as that type of stuff is in at least Japanese and Chinese cultures.
I wouldn't mind if we there was an answer to where their origins spawn from.
[/ QUOTE ]
LIke Narfman said, it would make a great article for the Life section of the Paragon times, complete with the correct Hmong pronounciation of "Tsoo" as "Joong" or an explanation of the Tsoo if they aren't really Hmong. That would be pretty cool.
A community piece, celebrating a cultural festival or something, complete with residents saying how Tub Ci is really not a bad guy etc 8) (I don't know about Tub Ci too much unforuntately)
