None of my Heroes will fall.
About 1/3 of my Villains will be redeemed, however. The others are too crazy or too power-mad or too unconcerned with life (other than their own).
But yeah, no heroes are crossing over at all.

If I'm playing without my pals, then I usually 3-box canon foes in the AE. I like the lack of travel between missions. Otherwise, I'll get out whatever character fits my mood and do a mission or three.
When my pals are on, we jump on Teamspeak (yeah, yeah, Vent is better, I know, we all know). We will just shoot the breeze, debate on various character builds, and share funny internet links as we play. Sometimes we do door missions, sometimes we faceroll AE missions, and sometimes we do Task Forces (or the pre-req missions).
So basically for group play, Teamspeak is at the heart of it. Friends make the game more fun.

I really dont have any new characters waiting on GR at all. I have a few, some of them in the 1-20 range, that I do plan to cross over, but that I don't plan to put through Praetoria (sp?). I could change my mind, but I'm thinking the only characters I plan to make there are the new powersets. As I bought GR early and I have already made all the Pistol and Demon dudes I want, that only leaves Kinetic Melee and Electric Control. I dont really like the looks of what I've seen of Kinetic Melee, so I'll only be making my Electric Control options after GR comes out.
Well, I dunno. Since my friend intends to start a Fire/Traps corruptor for GR, I may re-make mine since he is only level 24. That way we could have a Fire/Traps corruptor duo.

I'm not a huge fan of the Stealth power itself, because it eats up a pool slot and a power slot. However, generally, having some level of stealth on your character is almost always useful. On my Plant/Storm, the stealth aspect of Steamy Mist lets me set up my Seeds of Confusion safely. On my Earth/Rad, I had a couple of luxury slots I didn't really need, so I threw them on Sprint, and I run it all the time with 2 end reducers and a Stealth IO in it. It is *very* useful.
So, yeah, generally, stealth will remain great. Even Stealth (the pool power) will remain useful if you are already used to how it changes your movement (assuming it still does, I havent taken it in years).

I can't really work with what you have posted since I dont use that program and I don't see anything to import.
Instead, I'll post something close the build I have on Live. The main difference between my Live character and the one I'm posting below is that on Live, I dont have the Ragnarok or the Apocalypse sets. Therefore, I am one second shy of having perma-hasten, and 5 or 6 seconds shy on having perma-PA.
This build will get you perma-Hasten by a wide margin (111 seconds vs 120). It will get your recharge on PA down to 59.8 seconds, which isn't bad, even though the casting time is 3.1 seconds. I think there is an overlap as the old phantoms disappear so this is probably "close enough". It is about as good as I could do, and if I ever "fall into" the Apoc and Rag sets, I'll have this build exactly.

My favorite Ice Controller is Ice/Storm. However, based on the conversation, I think Ice/Rad is probably the way to go, though Ice/TA is pretty interesting too.
Ice/Rad and Ice/TA are, by coincidence, my current projects. Well, I'm working on Ice/TA and Plant/TA as the mood strikes, and then I've got Ice/Rad and Grav/TA waiting in the wings. My Ice/TA is only level 20 or so. Its a neat combo. I've played Ice/Storm and Ice/FF both to 50, and I've got Ice/Emp at 36 or so.
I'm pretty sure you'll have fun no matter what you do, but I think Ice/Rad would be best. It has the synergy that everyone is describing, and you can never go wrong with Rad.

Yeah, cohplanner doesn't work on the Mac operating system. That's pretty much the only thing I need my PC for as well, other than when I get in the mood to play Oblivion. At least, I don't think they have Oblivion on the Mac. I havent checked. Hmm.
Anyway, I actually have my PC sitting at a desk that is perpendicular to my desk that has the Mac, so I can just look over at my plan on that screen as I respec or whatever. I really do wish they'd make cohplanner for the Mac but I bet it would be a serious undertaking.

I'm sure others have answered your questions. I havent really looked at their responses. I'm just gonna throw mine down here even though someone may have already answered you adequately.
1) For travel powers, I always take Hasten and Super Speed. The recharge on your control powers (and liquefy) are SO long that Hasten is a god-send. I used to take Hover/Fly on all my controllers, even my Earth Controllers, but now I don't since you have to be on the ground to use Stalagmites anyway (and Fissure if you go with the Earth Epic).
I also like Combat Jumping because I hate being immobilized.
2) Yes, the Earth Epic will work well. Fissure works well with Stalagmites, both in terms of the style forced by the limitation (ground-based) and in terms of potentially stacking Stun magnitude. Also, Fissure recharges pretty fast and it is fun. STOMP. Seismic Smash hits hard and stacks hold magnitude with your controller Holds. The armor looks awful, but hey. If you want to have good defense against smashing/lethal, its great. The ranged attack in Earth Epic is adequate, and the HP buff in Earth's Embrace is nice if you are into that kind of thing.
I went with Fire, but Earth is arguably the better epic, by far.
3) You could probably get by without Stone Prison, but it is nice for soloing. My Earth/Sonic (level 50) just teamed, so I didn't pick it up until level 38. Slot it however you like.
4) I like Clarity since on teams it is nice to give people ranged mez protection so they don't have to stay in my Sonic Dispersion.
OK, I guess I'll post my build here just because. Note that while this IS my power order and number of slots on live, I have not bought most of the sets in the build yet. I do have the Miracle and the Numina and I do have the various damage procs in the build (and a substitute in VG). I may never fully slot out the build on Live to match this spec, but the slots are all in place in case I do. I just wanted the Miracle and Numina to support the end drain of Sonic Dispersion + Disruption Field + Fire Shield, and the proc stuff was part of the concept.
One oddity about my build though ... I LOATHE liquefy. What it does is fine, for the very brief and infrequent window in which it is up. Others seem to like it, so I'm the odd man out on this one. I hate it. Hating it saved me some slots.

I think the biggest problem with Controllers and Defenders is that they are mis-named. If Controller had been called Defender, and if Defender had been called Watchman or Sentry, then people wouldn't get their expectations mixed up.
If you want to blast and buff/debuff, play a Defender (or a Corruptor). If you want to Control and buff/debuff, play a Controller. If you find locking down everything and buffing everyone to be more satisfying than blasting and buffing, then the controller is more your AT.
I personally love what Defenders do, and when I want to Blast and Buff/Debuff, I play my Defenders. I find the damage to be generally greater, and definitely the damage is more flexible. Defenders are a lot of fun, if that is your style of fun.
Lewis -
You might also want to list which powers you have so far, in case you've skipped one that is critically important.
I personally think that the most important powers that you should have by now are:
Blind
Deceive
Spectral Wounds
Heal Other
Phantom Army
Those are the essentials that you really "should" have. After that, Fortitude, Clear Mind, Superior invisibility, and Resurrect are nice, in that order (though Resurrect is a bit optional). Flash is also optional, but decent. I always skip Absorb Pain. At some point it would be nice to have Stamina from the Fitness Pool and Hasten from the Speed Pool. But those can all come later. Of course, I'm talking about the powers you, in theory, could already have access to.
Of the powers you don't YET have access, I would definitely pick up Spectral Terror (26), Phantasm (32), Regeneration Aura (35), and Adrenaline Boost (38). Recovery Aura is nice but optional.
My Illusion/Empath is level 50. She has every Illusion power EXCEPT Group Invisibility. She has every Empathy Power except Absorb Pain. I also took Recall Friend, Hover, Hasten, Super Speed, Hurdle, Health, Stamina, and Fireball. Of course, that doesn't make my choices the best. That is just what I wanted to go with.
I'll post my build from live in data chunk form, but note that I don't have any of the Purple recipes yet, nor do I have any of the Luck of the Gambler recharge items yet. However, the build is set up to take them if I ever get around to obtaining them. The build has been very fun, and is a fun build even without any global recharge.

Quote:I dunno. At the higher levels, the crazy foes that ignore stun/hold and throw out superior stuns and holds against you ... its just unbelievably nasty. I *can* do carnies and malta and the other upper level foes on my Fire/Kin. However, I simply dont *want* to. Running a Fire/Kin against a lot of the upper tier content is simply not pleasant (even after factoring out the general unpleasantness that anyone feels when going up against those foes).Fire/kins aren't weak outside of farming and it does just fine on teams.
Basically, the 41-50 range, to me, is the range that is HARDEST on my fire/kin. Many of my other controllers take that range in stride, depending on what they do. I'd rather run my Fire/Storm, or an Illusion controller of any type, or anything with lots of weird/alternate/soft controls. Fire/Kin is pretty fragile outside of ideal scenarios.
Lewis -
I believe Stone to be the best.
Fissure has a chance to knock down foes and a chance to stun them, which is nice for general play and farming and for stacking sometimes with Flashfire. It has a super short range but a decent area, and since you'll be Fire/Kin you'll be up in the mix anyway. It does less damage than some other AOEs on a single application, but it costs less endurance and it recharges way faster. With lots of recharge it really comes back fast.
The armor from Stone is defense based, which is nice if you are trying to hit the smashing/lethal defense cap.
Hurl Boulder is a pretty good ranged attack. It hits pretty hard and with lots of recharge it is *almost* comparable to some of the other single target attacks from other epics. But then again, for most of what you'll be doing, you'll probably prefer the bigger alpha hit. Assuming you take it. I skipped it in favor of Seismic Smash.
Seismic Smash is a melee single target attack, but it animates quickly and it hits like a freight train. It also has a Hold component to the attack which can stack with Char or Cinders.
Finally, you get Earth's Embrace for increasing your hit points. With a bit of global recharge and some stacked siphon speed, you can make it perma, for higher max hit points at all times.
Stone is a truly great epic. The others all have their strengths, but I just think that Stone fits any melee-range controller very well. Since Fire and Kin both lend themselves to being in melee range, Stone is the perfect fit. I think it would fit Ice/Kin very well also.
Lewis -
I would want to keep Combat Jumping.
I have a couple questions.
Why not switch Ring of Fire to Char and go with 6 neuronic shutdowns? Sure, you'll lose some S/L defense, but not all, since Neuronic Shutdown provides a little.
Also, why the Fire epic? Concept? If you are building a farming build at the expense of all else, and if S/L defense is the main goal, it just seems that you'd be better off with the Earth epic. The rock armor is ugly, but it will put you WAY over the S/L cap. Maybe you don't like Fissure? Since I'm always in the middle of my opponents, its short range is fine, and I love the extra mitigation from the stun. You may already have the apocalypse IOs, so while I'd prefer seismic smash as my single target epic attack, you could go for Hurl Boulder and keep the apoc ranged IOs you already may have.
Basically, the Earth epic is great. Going for it will let you take a lot of the slots back that you spent on Boxing and whatnot.

Quote:I would say that the capped S/L defense adds another nice layer to your survival. Between Fire Imps, Controls, capped smashing/lethal defense, and of course your endurance recovery and healing tools, you'll be more likely to turn any unlucky fight into a victory.Fire/Kin farmers slot for defense so they don't need to use their controls. As you can cap smash/lethal defense and fight foes that only deal that type of damage, you won't need to use flashfire or cinders on the mobs. Perhaps char the bosses is about it...
I'll post the build I use when farming. It is fairly cheap. I think I made mine on 150 million. Maybe only 100 million.

I do have ninja run, but I cant live without Super Speed. It is my favorite power in the game.
As for the wonky defense bonuses, they were just hanging around for no particular reason.
I've been playing with Lightning Clap, and it is fun, but it sorta makes things more dangerous. I wish it were knockdown. Too bad. I've decided to drop it.
I also decided to take your advice and keep Jacob's Ladder, just to see how it works out. I like the slotting for it too, and I'm going to use it on Thunderstrike as well.
I just can't really find the slots to get a third one in Physical Perfection. I could pull it from the 5th slot in Lightning Rod, but I like my level up build to be the same as my final build in terms of power placement and number of slots. Its a weird quirk but it means that I "have" to keep 6 slots in lightning rod. That's why I had the damage proc in there, because I gotta use the slot for something.
I added Energy Torrent to the build, since I don't like Lightning Clap that much. Its possible I wont like Energy Torrent, I'll have to just keep playing to see. I wish I didn't like it, I sure could use the slots on PP and Death Shroud. I will see how it meshes with the build.
As for the Imperviums, I'm keeping them simply because I already have them sitting around from an old character I hated and deleted. So, I might as well. I already have a miracle and a numina waiting as well. So, a lot of my expensive bits on this build are done.
Finally, I guess I probably should take Death Shroud sooner, but I find the endurance use on this character to already be crippling. I'm looking forward to hitting 37 so I can slot my Miracle. I just don't want any more endurance cost at this point.
Anyway, I'm level 34 now and moving onward! I appreciate the advice. Sorry if I only used parts of it.Oh and thanks to Repltbrain also. I did increase my dark regen end cost. Its nasty!
Thanks,
Lewis

Thanks for the replies. I've got a lot to mull over, I suppose.
As for the build itself, I was trying to avoid paying for any of the expensive smashing/lethal defense items mainly. Otherwise, I'm just messing around. Its a character concept / side project kinda thing.
Thanks,
Lewis -
All,
I've got an Elec/Dark scrapper I've been working on, and I'm level 31 currently. I'll post my build below. However, I've discovered that I really hate Jacob's Ladder. Well, it's OK but I've fallen entirely out of habit of using it since I got Chain Induction. I know from my Elec/Fire scrapper, who never had Jacob's Ladder, that I dont think I really need it.
So my questions are: Should I replace it with Air Superiority for the damage and soft control? Should I shift everything and pick up Energy Torrent? What about Cloak of Fear? Is there any point to running it at the same time as Oppressive Gloom?
Also, is ET knockback or knockdown for scrappers? I've not tried it.
Thanks,
Lewis

My thought would be 7' tall. I would say that being 6' 6" sets her above most men, but with the way everyone makes their characters a bit bigger in this game, you might want to push to 7 feet.
Of course, you could go the opposite way and decide that the winning advantage on this bruteworld ended up being small and fast.
Lewis -
Sure. I'm new to Broadsword, so I'm interested in seeing builds, especially cheap soft-capped ones.
Thanks,
Lewis -
That's a pretty tall order, mainly because there are so many different ways you could go with it. I just worked up a build real quick. This is how I intend to respec my Grav/Storm one day. He is already level 50, but I have other projects I'm working on. One day I may get back to him and when I do I will do him up like this. Maybe it will give you some ideas.

Wow, thanks! I may even use it just like it is. There were some sets I hadn't considered using that I see now makes hitting the numbers easier. Also I wasnt paying attention closely on the Kinetic Combat vs Touch of Death. The last melee character I planned was Invuln, so I had typed defenses on the brain.
Why'd you go for the Gift of the Ancients? Run speed, primarily? I dont mind the recovery, and its good to get some resists in Deflection. I'm just tempted to go 5 and 5 in them to pick up the recharge bonus from Red Fortune.
Then again, this isn't really intended to be a recharge intensive build.
Anyway, thanks for the help!

Ah ok then. So, my numbers are actually almost OK then? Hmm.
I wish I could figure out how to nudge my ranged defense up a bit more. I'll keep working on it. Thanks!

I hate to necro a thread but I have a Mids question. When I open the OP's build, his phalanx fighting is giving him 14.4 defense. When I create a new character and slot phalanx fighting the same way, I'm getting only 3.8 defense from it.
Is there something I'm missing? Because if I could get that much defense out of phalanx fighting, I could make a build that pushes all my defenses into the low 50s. I'd go from "struggling to hit 45% to all" to "uber" in a heartbeat.
It didnt look like it was in PVP mode or anything weird. I'll post my build below, tho its a mess and just a concept work at this point. Everything is kinda out of order.
Anyway, what am I missing?
Thanks,
Lewis

Sounds good. I'll give Fire/WP a go.
Thanks,

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep thinking about my options. I do already have a level 50 soft-capped Fire/SR but to be honest, without a self-heal I'm a little worried that big spawns will eat him due to occasional lucky streaks. But, I never tried using him on a farm map. I might give it a shot.
If anyone else has suggestions, I'd like to hear them. If not, cool.
