Does Stealth remain useful?

Hey All,

This is coming from a long time Everquest I player who's dev's had a strange idea about risk/reward to say the least, which in that game by the time you got a cool/good power it was usually given 5-8 levels to late.

Invisibility was one of them, by level 30 or so everything saw threw it (or it's cousin Invis. Vs. Undead) and was pretty useless. So with that horror in mind my team of all Rads really relies on stealth to be able to set up all our attacks (seeds, Creepers, ect.ect.) and I just wanna know other then a few exceptions does stealth remain useful from 1-50? regular content of course, not PvP.

Thanks!

If you're referring to the actual "power" named stealth, than no, not in my opinion. I feel that it's reduced movement speed and lack of being actually able to stealth is far outweighs it's only pro, which is a small defense bonus.
However, if you're referring to the power Invisibility, than yes, it's a very useful power; particuarly on TFs and such when your team just wants to get it done. Note however that Invisibility can often times be useless without a recall friend from the teleportation pool, seeing as how often times the glowie or hostage is surrounded by a big mob, meaning you may not be able to take them yourself and need some backup.
Just watch out for Rikti, arachnos and rularuu, as they're the only ones(off the top of my head) that can see through invisibility.

Hope this helps.

Rularuu eyeballs and Rikti drones ignore stealth. Snipers have an enhanced perception radius that can see through anything except a Stalker's Hide or an Illusion Controller's Superior Invisibility. Certain opponents (Arachnos Widows and possibly some others) run Tactics, which give them an enhanced perception radius, but not as strong as that of a sniper. Other than that, invisibility powers are highly effective at keeping you hidden.

In general, every power you get in this game remains useful for your entire career.

I have been using my level 50 Illuson/Radiation Controller recently to solo the Maria Jenkins arc. With Superior Invisibility, he is able to stealth all of the missions except the "kill alls," and even with those, my Invis is a key part of my strategy. I use it to lead my pets into battle.

Only a few characters cannot benefit from some amount of stealth. Tanks generally don't need it, Scrappers may not need it (but Dark armor gets it). Almost all other characters can benefit from some amount of stealth (various ways to get it, including IOs). Many of my characters specifically take Super Speed to combine with a stealth IO or some other form of stealth (Steamy Mist, Shadowfall, Shadow Cloak, etc.) to have full invisibility.

If you are running all these yourself, then you must be picking up decent drops. Use the money to pick up the stealth IO and combine it with something like superspeed to keep your guys together. Alone, the power 'stealth' sucks. but if you combine stealth with superspeed, it is equal to invisibility, except you can attack, and are moving at a normal clip. Also, ninja run and sprint counteracts all or most of the speed loss, so you could go that route too. I just wouldn't recommend using stealth alone because usually the distance you need to setup in is the same distance enemies start to see you at. With stealth+IO/superspeed or invisibility(no attacking), I think only the enemies mentioned above can actually see you, even if you are right in the baddies' faces. In short, if you are going for not being seen, stealth sucks, but paired to invisibility levels it works fine.

I'm not a huge fan of the Stealth power itself, because it eats up a pool slot and a power slot. However, generally, having some level of stealth on your character is almost always useful. On my Plant/Storm, the stealth aspect of Steamy Mist lets me set up my Seeds of Confusion safely. On my Earth/Rad, I had a couple of luxury slots I didn't really need, so I threw them on Sprint, and I run it all the time with 2 end reducers and a Stealth IO in it. It is *very* useful.

So, yeah, generally, stealth will remain great. Even Stealth (the pool power) will remain useful if you are already used to how it changes your movement (assuming it still does, I havent taken it in years).

My fault, my fault, when I said Stealth I meant being stealthed somehow, in my case it's SS + IO not the pool power, sorry for the confusion.

I guess I wanted to know if for the most part it stays useful cause I remember how disappointed I was with Invis when it started to be useless and frankly my team needs it.

Thanks all!
