Yeah, my wife and I got a good laugh out of Casey's target book. Impressive timing.
And kudos to the Chuck crew for this episode. Sara in the bath, and India de Beaufort in one episode. Well played! -
Bring bacon. And pie. And mead. Or simply create a bacon-wrapped mead-infused pie. Then you're gold here.

My brother and I made our own hammers when we were kids.
Just a lesson for all you parents out there: do NOT teach your youngsters how to cast and pour lightweight concrete. It will not end well.
Though it did make for some kick-*** hammers.
Trying to shape our old metal garbage can lids into an approximation of Cap's shield... well... that's a whole nother story... -
Already got one for my son, and sent them to my two nephews. My sister is mad at me.

Quote:Simonson just got what makes Thor work. He made him godly and mighty, but still kept him well-tethered to humanity, making him accessible as well. His pacing was incredible, using little snippets to lay out storylines that would pay out 10-12 issues later. He also brought the rest of Thor's supporting cast to life in a way that I don't think anyone has, before or since. Odin, Loki, Balder, Heimdall, the Warriors Three, Sif, Enchantress, Executioner just blossomed in these stories. And he had great villains too. Surtur, Malekith, Hela, Jormungard. It was just one of those very rare, nearly perfect confluences of character and creator.Never really read any Thor, but I love the Norse and Icelandic sagas... enough so that I'm tempted to look at this. Wonder if I can "order" this to my local B & N and see if I want it after reading through for awhile. Would definitely have to wait until Christmas or the price to drop to buy it, though.
Anything you all can tell me about these stories in particular that makes them good/great? -
I was so hoping it was going to be Ted Kord. Ah well...

Alas my tanking brothers and sisters, I can't make it tonight, as the wife has prior claim on me. But, best of luck in rocking the new TFs.

Woo hoo! Haven't even completed the current Bat-trilogy, and its time to reinvent it already!!

I like the look of it. I'm much more excited about the two Marvel films (Captain America and Thor) than I am about the Green Lantern movie right now. Maybe the GL trailer was just a quick rush job and they're saving all the good stuff for post-production, but it really failed to excite me much.
Thor looks like a ton of fun, and Captain America is starting to look that way too. -
Just a minor point of correction. Steve Rogers was the original Captain America. The black guy you're referring to is Isaiah Bradley. Since Dr. Erskine, the creator of the super-soldier serum, was killed just after Steve Rogers' transformation, the army was trying to re-create the serum. They were using african-american men as their test subjects (similar to some of the real-life Tuskegee experiments). Bradley was the only one who survived the process, and did wear a leftover Cap costume for one mission.

Amen to that.
Pretty good episode. I agree in disliking Givens' character immensely. While it was entertaining to see the Intersect working in the minds of more traditional military types, they did a nice job in showing why it needs a little something more to counter-balance it. And they need to get Casey back with the team, because you can never have too much Casey.
I do hope Ellie doesn't get the Intersect as well. That would be rather silly and redundant. Though, what would happen if she was working on the laptop while she had the baby with her? Super-spy baby Clara!!! -
If you had the power to put a comic book character or series into production as a movie, which one would you do? I'm always curious to see what people would come up with as opposed to the "big names" that have already been made or are being made.
Here's just a short list from me, grabbing some minor DC comics characters than I think would be fun to see on the big screen.
1- Adam Strange- Done right, as kind of a retro-ish homage to the old space opera, Buck Rodgers and Flash Gordon type stories, this could be a very fun movie to do. Bold, rugged Earth man caught in a mysterious beam that transports him to a wild alien world, but with a sterile and stagnant culture.
2- Blue Beetle- One of my all-time favorite characters, in all three iterations. Maybe make a trilogy out of it. Touch a little on Dan Garrett, then get right to Ted Kord, maybe throw in a little Booster Gold for kicks, and leave the door open to introduce Jaime Reyes as well.
3- Hawkman- Would love to do a three movie deal with this. First movie introduces Prince Khufu and Chay-ara, moves up to their being Hawkman and Hawkgirl in the 20th century. Second movie would basically be Tim Truman's Hawkworld mini-series introducing Katar Hol and Shayera Thal. Third movie would bring the Thanagarian Hawks to earth to meet the originals and kick some butts. I would so love to see the Hawk's done right with killer special effects, as they easily some of the most visually striking characters in comics.
4- New Gods- Hit this one in another trilogy. Introduce Apokolips and New Genesis, show their war in full bloom before Uxas became Darkseid and Izaya became Highfather. Cover their eventually "truce" and the trading of their sons, then go into Mister Miracle's rebellion, and Orion's war against his father. Make it vast and epic and Kirbyesque.
5- Sandman- Do something very noirish with the Sandman Mystery Theatre stories. Wesley Dodds' Sandman would be so cool to see done on screen, with the mask, the suit, the fedora, the gas gun, all set back in the 40s and 50s.
6- Shazam- I would do a big screen adaptation of Jerry Ordway's Power of Shazam graphic novel in a heartbeat. You get young innocent Billy Batson transformed into the mighty Captain Marvel. You've got both Dr. Sivana and Black Adam as villains. It would kick ***!
Those are just some of mine off the top of my head. Let's hear yours! -

I was just disappointed that Zatanna wasn't actually in the episode herself, cuz that girl is all kinds of tasty.

Had to go with the Claremont/Byrne X-Men days, since that's pretty much what made a comics junkie out of me for the last 30 years.
But the Simonson Thor run is right up there too. Just amazing stuff. Still have yet to see anyone make Thor seem so awesome.
Also loved the Stern/Buscema/Palmer run on the Avengers. Some truly great, and highly underrated, storytelling. -
The older I get, the more convinced I become that 95% of all people exist for no other reason than to piss me off.

I still enjoy the show when it concentrates on its strengths (action sequences, the odd relationship between Chance, Winston, and Guerrero). I've found both Ilsa and Ames to be somewhat superfluous characters. Granted, they make for decent eye candy, but I don't think they really add much to the show as regulars. I wouldn't mind them being kept around in background roles with occasional appearances as their skill sets are required. But, I would prefer seeing them return to more of the original format of the show.
Or, just give us more Guerrero. I'd watch a show about that crazy ******* anytime. -
For the bird stuff alone.. it will finally let me make a couple of costumes look the way they should look.

Good time last night. We had an all-Tanker Manticore TF team, and two tip teams running. Good turnout, lots of fun, and lots of smashing done!

Looking forward to it as always. Can't wait to start things off with the ceremonial Stomping of Something Bigger Than You, and then see where it goes from there.

Finished up my Portal Jockey and knocked out the last 2 levels on my Warshade. So... wheeee!

Haven't really had much in the way of meltdowns in this game. Just some small personality clashes, people who didnt quite fit with the group, but nothing that was a serious blow-up. Which, given my experience with some other games, was quite a surprise.
My worst experience by far was from back in Ultima Online. I was a Master Smith and a kick-*** treasure hunter, and some of the people in my guild felt that they were entitled to some of the things I'd made and found. I gave access to my house to someone I trusted for them to pick up one thing, and he betrayed me and they looted a bunch of stuff. So, I pretty much made it my mission to destroy them. Which I did. Repeatedly. And that was the end of that guild.
But, that pretty much turned me into a huge ******, so I swore I'd never go down that road in a game again. And I haven't. Mostly cuz the folks in B.O.S.S. are quite tolerant.
