    Hami Raid

Hazy is right? I know I've seen that in someone's sig before...

lol. or is it lulz? I can't ever figure that stuff out.

Y'all have a nice day. I'm off to make the donuts.
  2. Thanks for posting.

I'm gonna jump way out on a limb and suggest that the 7/26 is a typo and is supposed to be 6/26
  3. I came across this little video. I laughed, you folks might also find it amusing.

Heh, I recall a time when I was vying for an assistantship during grad school. A large amount of international students at my school were competing for the same spot. I told my advisor that I had the spot locked. He asked what made me think so. I told him, "I speak English gooder than them do." (I was kidding, of course. They speak English much gooder than me.)

I think this raid wasn't planned well in advance like the earlier raids. Seemed okay to me for being sort of impromptu.

    Hami Raid

Well, it was a successful raid. I'm glad I just happened to log in 5 minutes before it started!

I'd checked this section of the forums earlier and must have missed the latest post about. Only 6 more raids until my emp can get the 4th tier. : )

You could give yourself enough recharge for perma-hasten/perma-AB with very few set bonuses.

You could softcap to practically everything with self-Fortitude (which will give you around 23% defense to ALL types/positions by itself). Pair that with Defender Maneuvers numbers (7% to all) Hover (2-3% to all), and Weave (4-5% to all) (with a Res/Def in Tough) and you suddenly find that you only need a few set bonuses to be softcapped to everything you can possibly have defense to. I did the math before. If an Empathy defender could self buff, they would be capable of hitting 35-36% defense to everything, with no outside help.

Regeneration Aura will be permanent or nearly so, giving you levels of regeneration that will surpass a Willpower character in a large crowd. You could almost surpass a Regen running Instant Healing with permanent Regeneration aura.

Oh, and you can hit yourself with a rather large self heal every 4 seconds or less and have stackable mez protection.

Pair that with a secondary like Sonic and you have a tankmage in the making.

So, yeah, self buffing characters would cause a severe nerf to a number of powersets. Empathy would go from one of the weakest offensive defender primaries, to the strongest.
And? What would be so horrible about that? I think that would be great. I think a blaster having a self heal at level 10 would be fantastic! And I think a scrapper with AB would be the most fun EVER!

I say we throw all these archtypes out the window and just make the toons be able to select any power from any typical AT.

Let me get me some siphon speed, siphon power, granite armor, bitter ice blast, and fire ball.

Sorry, I was being silly. The serious me is back now.
I think the OP is really just irritated at the lack of population on his server during the times he/she plays. I know I've got a new earth/ice controller who doesn't really want to choose the cold barrier for that very reason.

What good will SB do my new kin/ice defender? If I rarely team, not much good at all. But, then, why would I have named him Buff Daddy if he has no buffs?

The three build option is available, as mentioned previously, but it's annoying because of the stupid timer before you can change the build back, and having to find a trainer to do so in the first place. Ought to be able to open up the powers or enhancement window and select a build from there.

Other may have been on teams which do need it and that is ok but I have not.

Endo needs. dont see em much anymore
defense needs. dont see em much anymore
healing or regeneration needs. dont see em much anymore
status protection needs ( aka-clear mind). dont see em much anymore.

The problem is the lack of need because most other toons have other ways of getting it on their own. which makes empathy dead weight and a defenders dmg (especaily dark like mine) is underwhelming in teams compared to most other archtypes. So I end up playing a different toon that has more effect on the team which brings me to my posting point.
    unemployment for the empathy toon.
I read your initial post, and this response to what others stated. I gave it some thought, mainly from my own experience playing a blaster during the incarnate trials and some of the weekly tfs that I've run in the past few months.

My very first 50 is an emp/elec. I still play him, though not as often as my blaster(s) because I prefer blasting to buffing as a primary. And, I think you have a small point. My level 50 ice blaster has tier 4 in all the incarnate slots. And even before the level shift, with a purple inspiration, I could tank for about 31 seconds.

When I first started playing this game, I would always look for the empath, because the buffs and heals were something I understood, and could see the results more easily, and I never ran into a wall with AB like I did with the kin's SB. Lately, I don't look for any teammates because I find I just don't need them. Leveling is faster and easier for me when solo - if only because I don't have to wait for the teams to form (or to form them). (oops, I digressed)

Anyways, I think you have a small point, but now, you can learn to be a real defender instead of just using your primary. Sure, secondaries would be used in a secondary fashion, but if the primary support isn't needed, then use the secondaries.
In my opinion, at level 50, all the AT's should be self-sufficient. Teaming should be something we want to do, not something we must do.

LAMDA is pointless to do if you're a squishy, in particular one which has just got to 50. I just died about 20+ times, if I survive not being one shot then I can burn all of my inspirations only to be chased down an slaughtered.

There is no skill in being one shot, there is no fun in spending 90% of the time in the hospital. I die casting once, I die not even casting, I die running, I die standing and fighting. There is no safe place to get like in a pack of other players since the AoE on them kills me.

And don't bother telling me it will get easier once I've level shifted because I doubt I will EVER play it once I have the absolute minimum from there.

You need to give the players some type of tools to figure out what's wrong with the character, like some way to know I need more X defense or more Y resistance and how to obtain such. Just letting them die like tissue paper .... well it just makes me want to close my account and find a game that some kind of skill is still involved.
First, I've got to say, you're aptly named. I think your post is a little bit "outta control".
Second, I think I would be remiss if I didn't tell you that you're not alone. There are a lot of players who have a great deal of difficulty during the trials.

I'd like to focus on this part of your post:

If you log on to this poor squishy of yours and click on Powers, then Combat Attributes. This will bring up a series of pieces of information that will provide you with some insight on your defense percentage, resistance percentage and many other facts.

I might be providing a measure of insult, because I'm assuming you aren't familiar with these features, based on your comment. If you were already familiar, I apologize.

I'd also like to suggest that perhaps the league mates that are with you are not holding up their end of the bargain. Remember, a tank can only handle aggro from so many bad guys. I believe that cap is at 17, possibly 16, I can't recall at present. Typically, on a trial, I try to let the aggro managers head into the fray first. I wait about 3 to5 seconds before I cast any debuffs. And, I always carry breakfrees, because I never trust the other support toons to buff me. Inspirations are quite useful, and they drop frequently. I typically wait until they're flashing before I take another. Sometimes, I don't take any.

I've got two squishies that have their tier 4 incarnate slots filled. One is a blaster, the other an Ill/rad controller.

Mind you, I got their alpha slots filled first, so in a sense, they're "level shifted" before the trials went live.

If you still haven't level shifted via the alpha slot, I'd recommend avoiding the trials and do the weekly tfs (and other level 50 tfs) until you get the alpha slot filled. I think you'll have better success that route, and more fun.

And, fun is, after all, the point of playing.
  10. I'm finding it unusual to say the least. I returned to CoH a little over a year ago. I had started playing in 2005, right before issue 4, I think. I then left the game in September of 06.

Today, I was looking at some of my toons that I used to play way back then, and I see that some of my toons have been offline 4178 days.

Hmmm. My math tells me that something is amiss, as the game hasn't been around for that long. Surely, I'm not the only one to notice this, am I?
  11. I think folks like Dechs and Local_man (and other guide writers)have made such significant contributions by putting themselves out on that figurative limb, that they have made this game a lot more fun for many people, not just themselves.

I almost wrote a guide about being an ice/ice blaster once. But, after I reviewed it, it read so much like @Olepi's, that I decided to just leave his original. Anything I added would have been pretty much a duplicate.

It takes a certain element of courage to expose your words to the forum readers. Sure, some are looking for guidance, but there're a few who are very quick to point out mistakes, differences of opinion and some are just looking to troll.

So, my hat's off to you folks, not just Dechs and Local, but everyone who's written and posted a guide.
  12. You know, AV, I completely missed out on the fact that you were also celebrating your birthday, in addition to the 7 years. My apologies. I would have found some cake for you, somewhere!
  13. Well, I think it's ridiculous to even have a timer on these boost travel powers. If I'd known Steampunk was going to be the same thing as the GvsE temp, only a different animation, I'd have saved my money. Again, I realize I'm stupid for not coming to the forums first.
  14. Well - tomorrow, I'm off. I'm heading out after my shift to negotiate some free time with the big boss - if I play my cards right, I hope to be able to attend some of these in about a month. Only been on a couple and I'm 1/2, only batting .500

I hope I see you guys in a few weeks.

    Age of a toon?

Not sure about that link,(didn't click it) but I am certain it's NPCs whose names begin with the letter M. As for the accuracy, I can't be certain. I find it hard to believe that I've played my ice blaster over 4000 hours.
  16. Under normal conditions, I'm off Thursdays. : )

However, I'm not at all sure I want to see any new dancing by AV.

    I expect to be there.

So, for todays particular downtime you are looking for an $0.08 proration to your sub. Across the entire month of May with all the varied large downtimes we've had, we might be looking at a $1 proration.

Honestly for me, the playtime is more important than that actual amount of money. I think May has also been an abnormal month in terms of downtimes.
Hey, I never said I wanted a cash refund - I just want the time. My free time, like everyone else's has a limit. When maintenance bites into that free time, I want to be able to use that time I paid for later, without paying for it again. If they close the servers for x hours, then our sub times should be extended for x hours. Maybe this way, they won't do a tiny update on Tuesday and then have maintenance on Thursday when they could easily do both during the same two hour window.

But, as a buddy tells me, I could have leveled a toon with all the time I spend here whining about fair play or lack thereof. :P

I have to admit, it makes sense. If you have no choice but to screw a group of people, it makes more sense to screw 10,000 (generous estimate) than 60,000 (again, a generous estimate).
Not true. They can, and should pro-rate days (or hours) of game time credit for those hours we're unable to play.
It's ridiculous that we pay for game time and are just to accept these down times as necessary evils. They're not - at least not with the frequency we're having to presently tolerate.

And look for server mergers by the end of the year if they deem these stress tests to be successful... (because why else would they need to stress-test the servers of a game with a fairly static population that is unlikely to grow?)
Oh my. This makes sense -- but I do hope you're wrong.
  20. This launcher needing to restart to apply an update has me puzzled. I left the launcher up before I went to work so that the update could apply while I was gone - isn't that the purpose of the launcher?

And, while I'm here - I don't know what update they're applying - but wouldn't it make sense to do what they're doing today during Thursday's scheduled maintenance? Why close the servers twice, when once will do?

And shouldn't the patch notes be made available right before the update? That would at least tell us what we're waiting for.
  21. I do recognize the woman on Statesman's right (my left as I see the screen) as Sister Psyche. As for the rest....I dunno.

    Well

I recall Cap. Blinky from hami days, and saw Guardian Pixie from TWWP a very short while ago. And your name is familiar, but can't place it.
    Welcome back!
