I decided to transfer my controller Sakura to Exalted and re-use the name for my katana brute, because I thought it would be a great name for a katana wielder. I had controller Sakura use 400 reward merits for 20 random recipe rolls first; best of the bunch were a Blessing of the Zephyr (KB protect), a Miracle (recovery proc), a Kinetic Combat (DMG/END/RCHG), an Obliteration (smash proc), a Decimation (ACC/DMG/RCHG) and a Decimation (ACC/END/RCHG). So I deleted Kashira, transferred Sakura to Exalted, then tried to re-start my katana brute with the name Sakura .... only to find the name Sakura is no longer allowed as a character name. Argh! I checked Exalted and was able to log in controller Sakura without being forced to rename or anything, but the game absolutely would not let me start a new toon named Sakura. So I sheepishly re-started my katana/fire brute with the name Kashira, again.
There's got to be a glitch with the naming conventions. I tried to roll a toon named Obtuse today, and it told me the name wasn't allowed. No explanation as to why, just not allowed. I had to settle for Obtuse Rex. It'll have to do.
  2. Really? You earned all that inf through ......drops and the market?

Surely not just what the system gives for defeating NPCs.

But, I see your point. You disagree, that's fine.

After reading what Bill said, I'm a little inclined to agree with that. Lose the list altogether. But, then, that's not really necessary either. I'll just stop looking at it.

    Hami Raid

Rianeva, can I assume this is blue side, the raid on the 24th?
  4. Well, that was educational. And I thank those of you who took the time to answer my question. I hope I am not guilty of thread-jacking.
  5. This happened to me while trying to enter my sg base in Atlas.

I was "forcibly disconnected from the server".

So much for server stability hotfix issues.

Still, compared to many of the other problems others have, I'll take this and be happy enough.
  6. I did notice this on my arrow/fire blaster. But, as soon as the toon went to blue side, the issue went away.
  7. Is this a new install of the game, or a patch with the new issue?

Because I had absolutely no waiting at all - I left the launcher up after I logged with the settings adjusted for it to auto download any updates.

When I came back in the morning, all it had to do was verify, which took less than 5 minutes.

    <shrug>
  8. This also happened to me after a tf! I thought it was just an aberration.

So, I would guess the moral of the story is use the portal before you quit.
I could make a slew of guesses about why this happens, but I'll just stick with this new tip for the time being.
  9. Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, until he opens his mouth.

So, here I am, a fool, asking this question.

Why are you typing /unloadgfx ? I've not seen this in the CoH help section for addressing lag or anything.

My best advice would be to just stop using it, and you won't have those problems.

But, then again, assuming this command clears up some memory to improve performance, I'd have to ask why is this even necessary? Surely the game knows what details are needed, when they are needed and when they are no longer needed. ... doesn't it?
  10. I had this same problem for one of the new ouro arcs. GM_Marlin arrived quickly and not only had to auto-complete the mission, but the next one, too.

The response times for an in-game petition is much faster than it used to be years ago. I've never waited for more than 5 minutes the few times I've used them this past year and a half.
  11. My best suggestion for the synth/non-synth HOs are to use 2 different bins.

Sadly, not always feasible, but it would remedy this problem.
  12. Let us speak of this for a moment, and I'll sort of type out my thoughts on this matter - and it is a good question.

Fact: There are just some recipes that are unavailable at the Market.
Fact: You can either spend 1 or 2 Hero Merits for it or you can trade in Astrals or Emps for it.

For now, let's discount the PvP and Very Rare IO sets.

To get one hero merit, you can either trade in 50 million and 50 reward merits (say 1 Sister Psyche Tf - if done very speedy, about an hour or less, otherwise, up to two hours.)
or you can do 10 hero/villain tips and 1 morality mission.

If you are at low difficulty and play competently, either solo or teamed (solo is likely faster due to not having to recruit, but this speed will vary, obviously)

Given the OPs status of not being loaded with Inf, it may be better to not assume he will cash in Reward Merits. Still, it's an option, so I brought it up.

11 mission will probably take about 75 minutes on day 1 (doing 5 missions at about 15 minutes per mission) Day 2, about 90 minutes doing 6 missions.

As opposed to doing, say, a BAF, which is probably the easiest and fastest of the trials. But, let's say our OP is fearless and can do Keyes, UGT and Lambda as well. I've not done Keyes often enough to recall, and haven't done UGT more than once, so I am going to just say each trial will give an average of 5 Astrals.

So, each one taking about 45 minutes, (that horrid recruiting time on some occasions) So, 20 astrals on Day 1, another 20 on day 2, etc.

Trading the astrals would in fact, appear to be better IF you are on a server that has teams for these readily available.

For me, it's all about time. How long will it take me to play out the Trials vs the tips vs flip marketing - which we discount, as our OP has already expressed a lack of enthusiasm for this.

So, each server is different, do the math for your own.

On Liberty, if you're not running as an SG, most of the time, recruit time takes about 15 minutes. Even longer for Keyes. And I think the only reason folks do UGT now is because it's new. In another couple of weeks, they revert back to Baf.

For my server, tips IS faster (play time wise). As far as actual real life days, trials are the better deal.

Just my thoughts, critique away. There may have been some things I discounted in error.
  13. I'd offer you the same as a Steadfast Proc 3% def.
  14. Although I can role play a little, I usually don't.
I don't expect to play on Exalted, as any time spent here is time not spent on my home server, Liberty.

I will, however, make the trip when Liberty is unavailable.

I don't think any of the CoH team is going to really be "up" for something like that until they find another happy hour or two, and about 12 to 15 hours of sleep.

That said, they'll probably want a majority of the bugs/issues with the game fixed before they do anything like that.

This did not work for me the first three times. But, on the fourth try, I changed my password to something new, and it did work.

This morning, I had to do it again, but it worked again.

What a minor, but truly annoying bug!
  17. wow.

This is where I begin to wonder if it's me.

I'm so grateful to have the option to use these accumulated points to get things like server transfers in lieu of paying cash.

I spent 480 points on the 6 character transfers. I think I have less than 1000 left now.

Spend actual money, above and beyond the monthly fee? Oh, no. Not me. I AM tempted to get the salvage increases, but I found that instead of 82, I can now hold 91. And that was just changed without me lifting a finger.

I can't say for certain, but I think I'm able to hold more recipes, too.

But, the idea of spending 15 dollars to get 1200 points to put towards something that the game is going to give me anyway, well, that's just not me.

I am really glad for a lot of you, though. I can almost feel the joy by reading your chat in the global channels. Kind of like a parent watching his kids Christmas morning. And the best part, I didn't pay for any of it, except my standard monthly amount.
  18. The premise is sound.

People and their playstyles change over time. It's inevitable. The way I play now, blaster or tank is different from how I played 6 years ago.

From a "story" perspective - take a fire/fire blaster. A good portion of the secondary attacks are in melee. When teamed with a tank, heading into a mob and execution Combustion and/or Fire Sword Circle can be a lot of fun with nice results.

Who's to say after years of this activity, your toon wouldn't get more capable of doing such things, with less need for another toon to absorb the alphas?

However, as for practicality, even if the Devs loved this idea, I think it would be years away from becoming reality. That said, being logic oriented thinkers, my *assumption* - and that's all it is, not trying to tell anyone what anyone else is thinking, only me - would be that it's just easier to reroll.

Badges can be re-earned, as well as accolades. Costumes can be saved and loaded. There's no reason why the same instance of your scrapper can't be reborn as a tank or kheldian on another server with the same name.

I'm sure you're aware of all the alternatives.

Please don't get me wrong - I do like the idea. I just don't see it being implemented. But - I never thought Speed Boost would be an AoE, nor did I think a lovely option from Null the Gull would be a reality either.

    The Done Club

You folks have a lot of badges!
  20. A supergroup is designed to be a collection of heroes who have banded together. (sorry, I'm a blue side player - but the overall gist is the same, only the terms used are different)

Sometimes, this turns out to be one person whose friends have left the game, other times, someone who prefers to solo - or just prefers the storage creates and maintains their own base.

As many of you know, there is a top 100 list at the Supergroup Registrar's desk in the City Hall building in Atlas.

But - all this list does is measure prestige. It does not measure prestige earned. It measures prestige, whether earned, or converted from Influence/Infamy/Information.

I don't think this is a good thing. I'm glad we have the option to convert inf. to prestige. But, it bothers me that these boosts in prestige show up in the top 100 total.

This list, I can only imagine, was designed to show which groups are more active, not which groups have people who have influence to spare to convert to prestige.

I can't imagine how many groups of players on the VIP server raced to reach level 10 to make another chapter of their sg only to see that one or more groups already have a ton of prestige more than they do.

Don't misunderstand - I would like to convert and build all the portals and have enough control and power to do so - but I've got a rather pricy build I'm saving for. PvP IOs are not cheap, and I don't get drops in PvP because I so seldom win. lol. (probably more of lack of skill, than pvp IOs, but anyway)

I just would like to see converted prestige added to the base - just not to the totals in the top 100 list. I'd like that list to just show earned prestige. Not prestige generated by toons just entering - but only the earned prestige.
Anyone with two accounts now can have what - 96 toons in their base. Obviously, the first 15 could be from the same account, giving a bonus of what is it now? 20k per?

A list reflecting earned prestige might be a better indication of an SGs activity level. It certainly doesn't make the number 1 earner the best - but it does give a non-member something more to consider when deciding to join or not.

    Just a suggestion.

You might think this would work, but it wouldn't. The problem is - there are still players who don't and won't use the market. Your suggestion would limit their options. How much, I honestly can't say, because I'm not sure how much more selling the rare salvage to the store rather than the market would impact their earnings.

People say there's inflation - and I suppose that's true. One way to stop it is to remove influence from the game completely. All of it. You want a costume change - you go to Icon, get the costume you want - but you stay in your original until you perform 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 different things for Icon.

Same with anything else you might want from a store. You're level 25 and you want SO's - get them, slot them - but they don't work until you've clobbered enough baddies, done enough missions.

You want a set of a given purples, be prepared to do a multitude of tasks.

There's no real reason influence, prestige, merits or any of these currencies have to be used.

It can all come down to time spent on the toon and performance.

Realistically, this will never happen. The problem is you've got new players who don't have billions and other players who do. The ones who do can buy what they want - and they can afford to let their inf sit in Wentworths while their 15 to 19 bids for bargain priced recipes and enhancements work for them. And they get richer.
Ultimately, what they end up doing is funding their alts - giving a large chunk away either at costume contests, or just e-mailing it to random names they see in a global channel.

Until there is a solution - you have to join them - buy low, sell high. Level later.
  22. While we're making wishes, why not a ferry that goes to Portal Corp in Peregrine Island. Ouroboros drops you near Ghost Falcon and the base portal drops you even further away from Portal Corp, where probably 80% of the missions are.

I get that these zones are made for the playerbase to enjoy - but I would prefer to go directly to the next mission and skip the travel completely - unless there's some training or selling to do.
  23. Folks, this was to be expected. I'd like to say, at least they're ensuring things will work as intended - but I've a feeling that once they do go up, we'll likely have to endure some emergency maintenance with little or no warning as well.

It's the way things have been lately, and there's no reason to expect it to change.

Just wish the log in screen was the same. This new one is just ugly.

    Not allowed on

Well, the same thing happened to me just now. Guess we'll have to wait a bit.
