Why don't we try this weekend, during prime time? Late enough to get the west coasters in on things, but early enough where the East Coasters aren't forced to drink java to stay up for it?
Maybe 10pm Eastern? There's still a couple months before they shut the doors. May as well get my money's worth.
I thought I was going to play Secret World, but it's kind of meh compared to CoH - but I didn't really give it more than a few moments to impress me. I kept trying to target things with the Tab key, and pressing s to toggle on my Prestige Power Slide. But, all the character would do was a hokey-slow jog. No super speed, either. But, like I said, I didn't really give it that much time to impress me. -
I will be sure to smoke that Eduardo that's been in my bottom desk drawer if I catch wind of Grayson's arrival!
Congratulations! -
The main thing I will not miss is the public channel dramas - fueled in part by people who somehow became mods.
Player X has been silenced by Player E. Player X has been unsilenced by Player E. Player X has been kicked from the channel by Player E.
It's all too silly.
I will also not miss people so desperately trying to recruit for activities that they continually spam their messages with "You know you wanna."
I will not miss blind invites from players I don't know.
I will not miss the zombie events.
(I will miss the Nemesis zone events.) -
Quote:Strongly disagree. Helpful, perhaps, for those that use skype on a regular basis - but for those that don't, it would just be a distraction. If you can get most of the league on Skype, that also makes a huge difference. Yeah, it's annoying you need to resort to voice chat to maximize your odds of success, but that's how it is.
Gotten the badge 3 times without any of that stuff.
All it takes is people who are willing to do what it takes to get the badge.
i.e. Team inspirations, paying very close attention, practically playing on the edge of their seats. Amplifiers certainly won't hurt. Avoiding defeat so you can maintain DPS is likely the most critical factor.
I've done this on leagues with as few as 2 corruptors. They are definitely a plus, but not a necessity.
I can't commit to this yet - I will be available, but I'm not sure I have a transfer token to do this. I'll need to wait and see. (not logged in atm.)
If I do, will be happy to help - but I have a lot of toons that would be helpful, it would be a question of which to bring. -
Because of the inability to resub, that's where a lot of the folks went - other servers, because they can't get on Exalted.
That is one of the reasons why Exalted was not a very good idea in the first place. -
Nothing quite like an MoUGt in a single run.
To think I only started leading those because I needed some badges on my main.
The UGT came out a little over a year ago, and I ran that trial twice a week almost every week, starting right before they made it give the guaranteed rare/very rare.
There were 5 runs where Desdemona wigged out in one way shape or form and we didn't complete the trial.
There were two runs where we outright failed because I was too nice and let low 50s come without adequate buffs/debuffs. Lesson learned!
I think we were successful well over 90% of the time.
Some of that was my macros, explaining things ad nauseum. But for the most part, that was
@Icon, @Guardian Pixie, @Brightfires, @FlyingCodeMonkey, @Cera Frost, @Ion-Storm, @Evil Redux, @Princess Fire, @Cinder Frost, @Raven Lord, @Nex'Silan, @Karmaa, @High Voltz, @Heavenly Perverse and a few others. The top row were there almost everytime. (There's a couple more of you that I do remember, but I know you like to keep a low profile, so I'll respect that.)
Thanks to all of you.
I got MoUGT on 20 or so characters, and it was a blast. -
All very interesting stuff.
A special thanks to Father XMas, without whose wonderful guides, I might not have been able to upgrade as easily and affordably as I did. -

Quote:Okay! All you kids out there! Pay attention! MonkeyB is going to be rich! Notice she didn't say IF, she said when! There are not only statistically valid samples the demonstrate positive thinking works, there are also biblical references that make this clear as well. When I am rich [emphasis by @ukase]though I have decided to not buy comcast and fire all their idiots, instead I will buy NCSoft and fire theirs instead
But, if you take a peek at her friends list, you may reach the conclusion that she is already rich. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=295856
In any event, remember: Every dollar you save multiplies to the bottom line. (Every time McDonalds' saves a dollar, that's one order of fries they don't have to sell to earn the same amount of money, roughly. ) -
Quote:My use of riff-raff is pretty much just a figure of speech. In my mind, it keeps out most of the silly drama.I wonder if this doesn't contribute to people leaving the server (and a great many have, not just since the announcement)? But I suppose the "elite" are happy to see the "riff-raff" leave. Really sad. I remember when Liberty had the "nice server" reputation; that's long gone (and not just evident in this filter out riff-raff stuff, but as that was brought up . . . . ).
As a member of the riff-rafferati, I think it's a shame that Liberty has become so riff-raff averse (to the point of setting up private channels to ensure that the unwashed masses cannot *gasp* get a spot on an itrial or tf), but then, there is that element on most servers. They're just not usually so self-satisfied, even gloating, about it. Again, sad.
For example: I told a Mod on LB via PM that I never thought they were funny. Then I left that channel. Within 40 seconds, that Mod was made a mod on LFA and then kicked me from the LFA channel. It's all good. It merely confirmed what I thought. (that they aren't funny)
Private channels serve a purpose, as do the public channels.
The server count being at 30, whereas in weeks previous it's floating between 80 and 125 have a lot to do with the fact that if your vip sub expires, you can't resub. Some have mentioned that they've kept their vip status despite this, others have stated that they haven't. My sub isn't up until late October, so I can't speak for any validity to that being the reason, but I'm sure it's part of it. I know personally, I've probably played two hours since the announcement, when I typically play 4-5 hours a night.
From my experience, Liberty stopped being the Friendly server a couple of months before that other game went live. But, that's not to say any other server took that title from Liberty. It's all about perception. Your experiences may differ greatly from someone elses.
My thinking is that a lot of folks pretty much have decided to play another game since any progress made on their characters makes no difference, because in the long run, the game's shut down. (Unless TonyV or someone else makes something happen) -
Bang! You're dead!
This is nothing new. Liberty has always taken a long time to get an iTrial going - unless it's been something that's done on a regular basis after something else that is pretty popular, like the msr or a hami raid.
I know a lot of players like to wait for people to lead iTrials, rather than forming them. And when someone does try to form them, people tend to need a few moments to wrap something up. And sometimes, they take longer than that. It's all rather maddening when folks don't realize they can just exit the mission with an ouro portal at that instant and they don't have to finish the mission.
I still have the bulk of my 50's on Liberty, and for the past couple of months have only done UGTs with them, because that's the only trial with a guaranteed rare/very rare. (Magi's are ok because of the 2 emp merits. But, even when you get badges on a magi, it's not rich in rewards. Very few astrals compared to the other iTrials. )
This is why I've started playing on other servers. I don't have to lead the trials, so I don't have to blow my stack at someone who went and did what I just typed out not to do. (well, to be fair, I've only had that happen a couple of times) Now I can just shake my head at the leader for making a bone-head call or not making a good call.
Also, LB is not the channel it used to be. A lot of us are using private channels instead of the public ones - tends to keep the riff-raff out. So, there's a chance that people aren't getting the message. -
Absolutely agreed. There is no reason to fix blasters, they aren't broken.

Quote:wow. The awards system for VIP members gets straightened out?
If that ever happens, I will consider returning. I'd hate to miss it if it ever happens.
I know that the heart wants what the heart wants. But why in the world are people concerned with this stuff when the game is over in a few months?
If my sub had lapsed, I wouldn't return to have the game just shut down in couple of months.
<shrug> -
Well, to me, it doesn't matter what this fellow says about this GW2 game, the interface is just horrible.
Having only played CoH, I see these other UIs, and I simply loathe them.
And forced teaming? yuck. -
On this upcoming Friday, September 14th, in Dark Astoria after the MSR, or at 10pm Eastern if the MSR doesn't take place, I'll host my last MoUGT.
-
I see the OP wants to do whatever and anything he can to encourage folks to do what they can to save the game.
And then I see two other people worrying about forum rules.
Hmm.....I say forget about forum rules. Cross post, repost, post away. Whatever helps someone feel like they're doing what they can. -
Quote:I think it's the playing of a hero -as opposed to some other type of character. Mean-spirited folks are not as likely to enjoy being heroic, I wouldn't think. It's more a question of what is it about City of Heroes that attracts the best kinds of people to it? And conversely why do all the usual "people with unfortunate personalities" tend to stay away?
Or is it a combination of those and a whole load of other things?
And of course, a whole lot of other things. -
Let me preface this post by saying that aside from incarnate trials, there's not a lot in CoH that's still fun for me. I had resubbed for water blast, a three month deal, and it ends sometime in late October.
However, I'd been playing this game for a long time. As of late, out of habit more than anything else. As I was reading through, I read how some are more than willing to fork over extra cash to keep playing the game.
Now, I haven't done the math. Others are far better at that than I am.
But, have we considered stock? As in, purchasing shares of NCSoft?
http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=0...rce=undefined;
I did a google for figuring out how to go about doing this, as I'm not at all familiar with the Korean Stock Exchange. I found a couple of interesting links.
Now, I could be way off, way wrong. But, from the books I've read, majority stockholders make the decisions by essentially telling the Chairman what to do, or he/she gets voted out.
As I look at the graph and other data, it looks like a lot of shares are outstanding, 19.82 million. And, scary thing is, each share appears to sell for about 254 bucks.
Well. This is likely cost prohibitive for many of us, but if each of us bought 1 share through some broker, pooling our resources, we might be able to make some noise as investors in the company.
Obviously, buying shares in bulk for any one person -- well, odds are, folks with that kind of money probably aren't playing CoH in the first place - but, hey, we never know.
Some of you who are more capable of thinking outside the box may be able to garner a better slant to this.
I do think that a letter to the chairman and a few other key people should be written with these values in mind. http://global.ncsoft.com/global/abou...siongoals.aspx
Obviously, there's a great deal of information the playerbase is in the dark about. From what I recall of my studies (way back a long time ago), it's very easy for a decision to get made and then ...the powers that be realize a decision may be what's best for the shareholders, but it conflicts with the company's mission statement. A phrasing has to be made that will allow the chairman to realize that to close the doors to Paragon Studios conflicts with their mission statement.
Let's also not discount the spirit of NCSoft. Being brave about doing what is right.
With the lack of information we have, it doesn't seem like they are doing what is right - but we don't have all the facts.
Odds are, it has something to do with the announced expected purchase of 14.7% of company stock being bought by Nexus on June 8.
I don't know who has the largest % ownership of NCSoft stock. It may be Nexus, or it may be any number of other people or companies. If someone is in the stock trade business, they may be in a better position to get this information. Or, perhaps someone who has a broker can just ask their broker to see if they can find out.
If we can get the votes to save the game, and have the issue brought up at the next stock holders meeting, we could save the game. Just a shame this company isn't in America - I could definitely see myself cold-calling some shareholders and asking them for a favor.
Again, I could be all wrong - I'm not at all sure how South Korea does business in their stock market. Perhaps all it would take is a call from one of our congressman to their chairman. After all, if we pull out of South Korea, bad things would happen. (all over a game - not bloody likely, and it's quite silly to even contemplate)
In any event, perhaps one of you can find some sliver of this idea and make it better. -
Actually, that would be great. I love starting a toon from scratch with no inf, no nothing and earning a billion by level 50.
The game is not about the destination, but the journey. -
25 level 50's. All level 50s have the four main accolades - PJ, Atlas, FPR and TFC and are tier 4 in all incarnate slots. (except one blaster and one controller - just ran out of time.)
6 blasters
5 controllers
4 tank
4 brute
3 scrappers
1 Defender
1 Dominator
1 Warshade
I was working on a Human Form PB, an MM and a corruptor.
Overall, the blasters have been the most fun for me.
Controllers can be fun solo, but I absolutely hate teaming with them, but they're quite useful.
Brutes are a hoot.
I was trying out different dominators, because I can't believe they are all as lousy as mine was.
The Warshade ...well....mostly situational for me. Great at MSRs, but not really my first choice for an iTrial.
I have .....20 or so toons between level 35 and 44
Maybe 50 between level 1 and 35. -
Quote:Wait...what? What a jerk I am! I completely misunderstood the dilemma. They didn't choose to do so - NCSOFT cancelled ALL recurrent billing so anyone whose account was due to renew after 31 August cannot do so.
Well, on the bright side, I've only got a few months left to cram the other foot in my mouth.
I read that they stopped recurring billing -- but it just didn't register. I guess it's fitting I made a toon called Obtuse Rex.
Sorry folks. That does stink. -
Nah, that was mostly afk farming with gladiators in the arena.
I think I had about 4500 before I went for those badges. I read Olepi's guide to ice blasting back in '05, and made not only 1, but several ice/ice blasters and leveled them to 50 because nothing really compared to bitter ice blast.
Had a brief fling with fire/fire, but the secondary was lame compared to /ice.
Now, fire/MM...that gave Ice/ice a run for the money with far better dps.
But, ice is still oh-so-nice. -
Quote:Just a thought..............would you be willing to pay up to $19.99 per month to keep the game going ? ? ? I know I would. Let me know and maybe we can start a new petiton to show how many players would be willing to pay more to keep the game alive and maybe just maybe if NCsoft saw that they would reconsider with all that new cash coming in every month.
I would pay 30
However, I did like Jester's idea of the increased fee including the new powersets instead of having to use points for those.
