  2. My character Zorba needs Synapse, but it doesn't seem a sure bet that it will be over before the MoUGT. Too bad.

Giving them to one person alone means that, if that person dies or (more likely) DCs, the team is left with no grenades. Even the most awesome tank that will never die on a Lam can still DC. Why not let everyone keep them and use them, or at least say, "If you aren't sure about grenades or die a lot, give them to a tank or brute"?

I know this is minor, but I am just wondering on the rationale.
This is a good question. I'll explain as best I can. Bear in mind, there may be other correct answers, as this is just my opinion. There are 3 types of leaders for iTrials.
    1. The newer, less experienced player who wants the incarnate salvage so badly, they will form a trial regardless of whether or not they know what they're doing. They don't give much, if any direction at all, hoping that the league will know what to do. A fair assumption for a baf or lam.
    2. The experienced non-beta leader. These are people who hae probably led a fair amount of trials or tfs. You'll see them comment in global channels far more often than other voices - "XXTF is now forming, room for X" They give direction and are usually very familiar with what needs to be done. But !!! Where are they learning this stuff from? They'll get bits and pieces from the forums, but usually they will learn from other leaders. Most are just repeating things they've seen and heard without really knowing why things must or should be done "this way".
    3. The Beta leader is a player who may spend just as much time in beta suffering through the challenges and changes on Beta, so that by the time things go live, it's pretty much old stuff for them. They want the badges on their character(s) so they form a league, generally hand picked from a global list of friends or pick out of the names on a global channel list. (they may even use /search to see who they know is online.) This player will then proceed to dish out macros, binds, instructions and usually has a reason behind each "Don't do this" or "Do this here, not there"
The last possible reason is leader 2 and 3 realize that half the players aren't really paying full attention; they have kids, wives, husbands, radios, tvs -- all manner of real life distractions, where players think nothing of putting their toon on follow while they deal with the distraction. It's just a game, right? So, the leader may know that a given character on the league takes his gaming so seriously that they play in a vacuum, sealed off from all distractions so that he won't go afk while marauder is enraged.

So, in a nutshell, the leader trusts that one player more than the rest of the league to do what needs to be done, or he's just doing what the last leader he learned under did.
  4. Well, I was sitting on 70 billion, spread out in bids, with 16 e-mails of 500 mill each.

Then, I did a respec, and somehow, I still spent 7 billion. I could have bought recipes and crafted instead, but recipes seem to be costing more than the ios.

Wouldn't ya know it, tho - I already made a billion and a half back - and expect I'll be back up to that total in a couple of days.

wait - it was only 6 billion. I used 1 billion to place some lowball bids to recoup the cost of the build.

The best part was instead of grinding through AE and council missions to fund the build, task forces with the merits and SSAs now seem to do the trick - and I was doing those anyway.
  5. Thanks for your time, and your input.

This is a toon that I hadn't played much and wanted to revisit it now that I have the inf to give it the IO love it needs. I soloed it to 50, with the exception of tfs and an msr on 2xp weekend. The folks in the troller forums were saying that frostwork doesn't help that many people, as they are usually already at their max hp, or close enough that it would be like a pinch of salt on a pizza. So much in the food already, we wouldn't notice it.

I am very susceptible to chasing IO bonuses.
I actually had looked at Thunderstrike, and even had it in - but I was thinking about the frequency of use. I just didnt' see myself using that power too much in an iTrial situation. Still, you raised some good points.

Nemu, thanks so much for letting me keep my pet!

I'm almost 100% positive that at least one toon out of 24 would have a sufficient snipe. And if not, I have zero problems bringing an alt that does to help in this effort. But, my money says to ask what the people who don't have the badge would like. My guess is only one or two reads the forums.

(and it wouldn't take but a couple minutes to transfer one)
  7. This build needs some fine-tuning. I was hoping for 30% s/l and soft-capped range and still have decent recharge.

I came close, but not quite there. I can nip a couple of slots here and there, but not enough.

Any further revisions towards that goal would be appreciated.
I would like to keep Super Speed as my travel power, but I could lose the leadership pool for fight pool - I just figured there was more utility in leadership. This build is primarily for iTrials.

  8. Since you asked, I'll go out on a limb and provide some conjecture, express my opinion and hush.

Targeting through you - It would be interesting to know how many people were doing that. Where things slowed down was that bomb behind the corner. (which is the second to last bomb) My theory is that some folks were just tabbing through targets, because in that hallway, the only mobs are at the end. And when it came down to the end of the hallway, they had to take a second to click on you to find the target.

Yeah, it's weak, and pure conjecture. It's also possible that some of the inexperienced got confused seeing that large mob waiting on them. (despite clear directions on what to do)
There are times when I wish I could travel to each persons house and look at their computer screen to see if their chat box is up, or if their resolution is so poor that their screen is all squeezed into 800X600 which would be just horrible for taking in all the visual cues that are so helpful.

My opinion: I could be wrong here - but there are going to be two sides of the coin, and either way, someone will make another suggestion to do it the other way. If you continue the way you have the pros are:
    • Nobody left in the big room doing nothing.
    • Not a great deal of pressure on snipers.
    • Blasters, Defenders and Dominators who team up regularly won't have to take a "Dog" power like snipe.
    • A shorter trial time.
    The cons are:
    • a higher chance of a mistake. How much higher? Depends on the league.
Adapting to the snipe system, the pros are:
    • A marked increase in success.
    The cons are:
    • A larger group of bored players.
Some bored players really want to peek around that corner and possibly mess things up.
    • Maybe 5 more minutes of trial time.
In the end, it's completely up to you. Either way, the league wins or fails on it's own ability to follow the instructions. Overall, the league seems willing to do that. The Preservation Specialist is not quite in the class of Avoids the Green Stuff. But, it's close.
I suggest (because UGT is my fave) that you keep doing things the way you do them. This will keep the ones that are happy with the way you run the trial coming to the trial. And the ones that don't have that badge yet will also come to the trial, hoping for it.

Thanks for herding the cats. As I mentioned, I picked up a trick or two.
  9. If you buy 1200 points, you get a token. (pretty much as soon as you have bought it)

If you buy a month of time, you get a token for each month you buy. But, you may not get that token immediately.

For example: I bought 6 months +1 month. I didn't get 7 tokens immediately; I got the first one at the end of the first month.

    MSRs and stuff

Everyone knows that with a large number of people, there is likely to be diversity. A diverse crowd, by definition, is likely to enjoy different things.

Historically, when @American Valor and/or Steele Magnolia or @Noyjitat would lead the msrs, I felt lucky to get into the zone.

For the past year or so, @Noyjitat hadn't missed a raid until recently when work schedules became problematic. Still, this guy called a friend who logged in just to let me know so I could let the server know, and I led in his absence.

Now, for two scheduled MSRs in a row, Liberty has failed to show up. We all have our preferences. For those that are vip, it's your money - I encourage you to do what's fun while you play, so long as it doesn't interfere with someone else's fun.

So, what's up, Liberty? Was I so mean in raising the level limit to 35 that it's not worth your while if you can't get mad xp? (bear in mind, I made that rule for my raids - while @noyjitat won't complain if you abide by it, I don't think he's set a minimum level for his. )

Is Dark Astoria still shiny? Is it the staff powerset that most of you are playing and don't want to spoil the mood because your new toon isn't high enough?

We saw 154 unhidden people on LB - which, for all practical purposes is really the only channel liberty has. There are other private and public channels, but LB is the main one. I saw no other things going on, although I did hear of a baf forming prior to the msr.

Unfortunately, I don't think we even had 10% of that show up. On a Saturday night, no less.
I know that there are some that have their own groups, whether they are a private channel that you team exclusively with (almost), or SGs that typically stick to themselves. But, where were the 48 people from 2 weeks ago? and 3 weeks ago?

If you've gone to play another game, I am upset that you didn't at least give your stuff to someone. If you were doing something like a tf that was dragging on longer than expect, I get that, too.
I know things happen. I just want to know if folks are still interested in doing msr. If not, well, the message is coming in pretty loud and clear.

If you wish to start an argument on the internet, simply follow these simple steps:

    1. Express an opinion in writing.
    2. Wait.

    Example:
If you don't know how to monitor combat attributes, odds are your character is not as fun as it could be.

I think the single best piece of advice I can give you for soloing this is to let the heroes come along to help you - and then, after the first mob, click on them and see how they're doing. Try waiting a bit to let them regen. It will be annoying, but it's far more likely that they will survive to help if you start each group with them having a full bar of hp.

5- Get barfed out of the trial back into your flashback (having lost progress on the mission you were in when the BAF started, but not your place in the story arc).

    Where's the problem?
lol. The problem is that I had no idea we could do that! That is, I knew we could join the queue and do regular missions, but for some reason, I thought being in task force mode wouldn't allow it. (The game would let me, but I never got queued into any iTrial while running arcs. I just figured it only worked in regular missions.)

Man, the compassion for the fellow player is just ..underwhelming.

You are not totally correct. Sure, you can play the semantics game if you like. The player is stuck indeed. If they choose to do that baf - they have lost all the progress that they made in the flashback arc. Sounds stuck to me. When players have limited time (you mention a 2 hour window) and they spend half of it in flashback mode and choose to do a tf, they have basically wasted an hour with nothing gained except for a few paltry threads and perhaps an even more paltry gain in iXP.

The arcs from the contacts in DA should have been repeatable from the very start. There are so many things in game that we thought would never happen because of the amount of effort it would take the dev team to reconfigure things. This is no different. They pushed this issue when they really didn't have to.

All that being said, except for the new player - the rest of us have only a little room for complaint. After all, we have alts! We can log the character involved in ouro and log in another.

To the OP -I feel your pain. Don't let the folks who have invested thousands of hours of their time into this game (and can understandably be hyper-sensitive to complaints about it) get you down. Your complaint has merit and is felt by a lot of players.
  17. I think the best thing for you to do is to take a peek at each of the server forums, and look for the most active, friendly and helpful people.

Although it's true that probably less than 10% of the players are active on the forums, you'll get a rough picture of what that server "personality" is like.

    How is Staff?

Heh, I had to edit my initial response out. Too cheesy, even for me.

I hear in game friends tell me about this problem frequently. Because of the global channels, a lot of players don't feel obligated to join an SG.

And, those that do find themselves alone in a crowd of 3 or 4 people with a great many alts.

The only time alt-itus hits me is when I'm playing one toon, and I see someone else do something with their toon that's different from the way I would do it.

For example, I saw a grav troller make judicious use of a good sized mob. Wonderful effects, and it's nice when a tank doesn't have to round up a herd.

I think the best way to stick to a toon long enough to play it through DA is to be able to level fast enough where you don't get discouraged.

To that end, I recommend a brute with Fiery Aura. With the new ATO procs, and the cheaper glad proc and Shield Wall proc, it's easy enough to hit soft cap defense, and you can even hit the incarnate soft-cap at the expense of recharge - but I don't recommend that. It's just nice to have options. It takes a brute a while to get burn - level 28, instead of 18 for tanks. (and a fire tank is not a bad idea at all - with ATOs, you can get s/l resist cap, as well as fire, and pretty high on energy. )
There's just nothing like burn. How can anyone not want to play anything fire all the way to 50?

No, @noyjitat ran it this Saturday. I ran it Friday. And it was an impromptu run. I was thinking someone else was going to lead it.

Personally, the lowbies bother me - Not all - but some of the players level up very quickly and like my signature says, are clueless about how badly they're doing. (or will be doing)

Previously, when a level 7 joined one of my leagues, from the tells I got, you would have thought that the xp was coming out of everyone's xp bar to fill the level 7s.

I don't want to play favorites, and because the vg merits are only available at 35, that's where I drew the line.

    Observations:
    • by drawing that line at level 35, maybe 4 defeats all total.
    • VG merits went from a paltry 430 to just less than a 1000.
    • No angry tells from participants about the moochers.
As for this Friday, dunno who's going to run it. Maybe me, maybe someone else.

Rant away! You are not the only one who thinks this way, not by a long shot.

You're absolutely right. And, I have to admit, I am at least a bit "snobbish" when it comes to things like this. But, I'm trying not to be. First, I'm wondering if they may, in fact, be having more fun and getting more out of the game than I am.

You know, I've never taken whirlwind on a toon. Never. I honestly couldn't tell you if it's good, bad or whatever. I've never taken it because I've seen the way it flings baddies around in a Frostfire mission and thought, "Good thing I'm on a blaster and don't need to chase those down." That, and the complaining from the melee on the team sort of made my mind up.

Obviously, this rubbed you at least a little bit the wrong way, and I apologize. That wasn't the intent. If everyone played the way I did, and built their toons the way I did -(I admit, it'd be interesting if everyone did that, just to see) - then I'd probably refuse to team. I only consider myself as a slightly better than mediocre player. (and that's part of the reason I try to give the toon all the help it can get.)

Thanks for the responses, all of you. While in my pensive mood, you have helped.

    Concept Build?

For years, I have seen this term. But, I'm not sure that it means what I think it means.

Invariably, when I read about someone's invuln tank that doesn't have Unyielding, and they mention it's a "concept build", the first thing that runs through my head is "Okay, so, what you're telling me is that you don't think your character would have that ability, so everyone else on your team has to take up your slack."

I don't mean to offend, but isn't that the case? A tank without status protection? What's that all about?

I'm sorry folks, I'm just too obtuse to get it.
I can understand making nice costumes. I can understand writing your "origin". I can even understand roleplay (though, admittedly, more than a few in-character comments would drive me insane). But to choose to not take powers that you KNOW are in the best interest of you and your team just seems kind of .....insensitive? Thoughtless? Nah, that's not the word...ah, I got it - outside the norm.

How does a selfish Empath defender get along on a team, thematically?

Or a Fire tank, who refuses to take Fire Shield because it obscures the look of their costume?

I know that it's a wonderful thing that the archetypes and powersets we choose are not formed from a cookie cutter. But, why leave the tasty chocolate chips out?

Sorry, I just had to ask - maybe some of you folks can clarify it for me. I don't wish to remain ignorant.
