Hmmm, I forgot about this thread, lol.
Oh, I am, but I could always use a couple more for my fire2 tank...
Quote:Anyway, 3 from that set give you 10% regen, and slotting 4 grants 5% global recharge bonus. Yum. lol
Quote:Taunt auto-hits up to five people (in PvE), so I dunno what you're talking about "somewhat-inaccurate". ... edit: unless you're talking about the proc being the actual AoE, in which case, yes.
I find it hilarious that I said the same exact thing in a completely different thread (different sub-forum, too) Actually had me confused there for a sec. -
Quote:Heh, no doubt. My wife has a horrid habit of doing that. Her idea of an apology was:I believe this is an example of what I like to call the non-apology apology. It's all the rage these days.
"I'm sorry, but..." followed by a justification.
We finally had it out, and I said, "If the word 'but' is anywhere in the sentence, then it isn't an apology. It's a justification."
That was a rough fight (and we don't fight often) but things have gotten much better since then. I actually do get sincere apologies on occasion now.Heh, 17 years and we're still learning how to 'get it right.'

My favorite tactic with my AR/Fire blaster:
Build Up -> TP into the center of the 'treed' herders -> Fire Sword Circle -> Combustion
Doesn't always finish them immediately but by the time Combustion finishes they're targetable, and a good frag grenade will usually finish them nicely. -

You know, I saw the 'nerdrage' tag, so naturally it piqued (note, not 'peaked') my curiosity.
"This thread seems innocent enough. Where's the ... Oh, wait, here we go."
For those who rage against being corrected, I would only say this. Someday, spelling and grammar might make the difference between getting a job, promotion, or other reward, and not getting it. And spelling and grammar are both learned skills. It's not something you just turn on and 'do it right' when you know it counts.
For those who live to correct, and who rage against being forced to read post after post of horribly-constructed grammar, lolspeak, 7334speak and skipped Oxford commas?
Lighten up, Francis. -
Quote:While you've debated the finer points of how targeting *should* function, you've missed the overall point of the debate. I don't know if you really had a bug specific to your machine, or what, and it really doesn't matter. You are essentially saying that you are inconvenienced by this 'change', and that the game should be changed again to function the way you want. So everyone else who plays this game should re-learn how to use the targeting controls *your* way. Whether your method is intrinsically 'better' is beside the point. At least we agree on that 8> Thanks for all your input. Its hard to agree with you on the rest but at least you have valid points on why you think that way. I only wish I could have shown you what it did and how easily I worked with it.
It boils down to: ME > Everyone else.
Now if everyone else was experiencing the same thing, it'd be a whole different situation. But then in that case, there would be a dozen different threads on this same topic.
Bottom line is, even if your way were 10x better than the WAI current way, I doubt seriously that it'd get changed. Such a change would annoy a lot of players. Me? Enh, I'd probably think "WTF did they do that? Oh well..." and move on. But then I'm easy. -
Quote:Sam, you're giving these 'people' far too much credit. They don't care how you got to 50. They don't care about anything other than themselves. You can help them get what they want faster, ergo, you must do it for them, and you must like it.Is it some kind of logic that your 50 OBVIOUSLY got powerlevelled, and OBVIOUSLY by some charitable individual, so now you owe it to society to give back?
Luckily in CoX we can /ignore, we can go play on another server, etc. Unfortunately we don't have those tools in real life. -

Quote:Not really. PvP changes lots of things, and you're playing against a person, not our (questionable) AI. It's like comparing apples and earthworms.I actually just solo'd my first 2 AVs yesterday without temps. Was Nightstar and then Siege. If I can handle them, wold that translate to good 1v1 pvp ability?

Quote:Seconded, basically a somewhat-inaccurate ranged AoE that costs no END. And taunts as a bonus.I have it at its base slot on any character that takes it (tank/brute), and the base slot has chance for psi damage in it. I like Taunt when it's slotted with that proc. It's almost an attack that way. It almost always hits at least one dude taunted, if not more than one. More damage is more damage! It finds its way into a regular rotation in my attack chain.
Of course, promoting this use means the cost of the taunt proc is gonna go up now. Thanks, Aggy. -
Quote:Ew. Do that, and you give new life to the debate on PvE content in PvP zones.Giving them a chance to drop off critters in pvp zones sounds like a great idea though.
Really Do Not Want.
(Note: Edited this comment *HEAVILY* because I *really* don't want to restart that argument yet again. The horse is dead enough.) -
Quote:Virtue and Freedom are the most crowded.Hello! I just recently began playing City of Heroes and it's fantastic! Never before have I had the option to run around in skin-tight spandex, and yell BIFF! BAM! POW! as I kick some major butt. There's just a simple problem that I have.
Which server would you consider the most popular? I'm currently on the Champion server (or, at least, that's what I think the top server is called) and nearly everywhere I go is a ghost town; no players in sight, and so the social aspect of an MMORPG is basically gone.
However.
City of Heroes/Villains is heavily instance-based. There are a few spots where some players gather, but you won't see huge throngs of toons hanging out like you do in other MMOs. They are all doing door missions. You'll want to learn to use the team search tool, and also find the global channels on your specific server to find/make teams.
Also, are you on a trial? Due to RMT spammers, trial accounts are severely gimped. Basically it makes it nearly impossible to communicate in anything other than local chat, which must be highly irritating.
Oh yeah, and Welcome to City of Heroes! You'll get lots more suggestions in this thread momentarily. -
Not to mention that they have more important things on their plate, like oh, say, Going Rogue (and fixing all of i17's bugs before GR hits...)

Quote:Apparently you're the only one then. My TAB key has always cycled outwards after a defeat, which is why I double-click my next attack to force a target-nearest. Perhaps it'd be possible to write a macro that would function the way you're describing? And again to Master Blade - sorry just keep rereading posts, but the powers targeting next nearest target when something is defeated is something that still works thankfully but it used to work with tab as well. At least for me. And you wouldn't believe how helpful it seems now that its gone.

Quote:Reading the OP's tales in 'Rude Tells', I think you'd classify any of them as jerks.I ...wonder if our definitions are radically different. Is a jerk someone who isn't using their powers in the "one and only true BEST way" instead of being a bit unfocussed? Is it someone who is abusive in chat to others on the team?
Quote:I haven't read thru the entire Rude Tells thread because it's so massive, so I don't know OP's reported experiences. ... If you are seeing that many jerks, maybe you should step back at examine your own behavior to see what has caused you to perceive "jerkism" in the behavior of others. -

Quote:Unless your name is Psychoti, apparently.4. Quite rarely. People who do completly stupid things seem to be the exception rather than the rule.
Quote:5. Almost never but that's more a case of I'm anti-social and rarely make friends in games. -
Before I start, note that I don't write code or develop games for a living, and I don't even play a developer on TV. And I didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night, either. My suppositions below are just that, based upon business experience.
Quote:That *would* be ridiculous, if it were what he said.So for Castle to turn around and basically say he was just "following orders" from the players, to me is totally rediculous.
Quote:This is a situation I cannot win with. I removed the prompt; people complained until I was told to put it back. Now it's back, a completely different set of people get to complain.
We know the prompt was removed due to an exploit. I expect that whoever found the exploit came to Castle and said, "We have an exploit we need to shut down. Can you remove the prompt from MF until we can fix it? We can put it back once the fix is ready." So Castle did that. People complained. When the fix was ready, he was told by the bug-fix crew that he could put the prompt back in the way it was. He did that. The complainers shut up, but the other side started complaining about bringing back the prompt. Thus the lament, basically "I can't win for losing".
Heh, I can relate to that.
Quote:People saying, "This choice should be something in the options menu" I neither agree nor disagree on this. That's for the UI team to decide, not me. In any case, that particular task is not one that I can undertake, so telling me doesn't really help beyond my passing it along to the powers that be. -
Quote:Trick Arrow's problems aren't huge - it's a bunch of little issues that combine into bigger problems. Funny, that's kinda how the set works, too. Trick Arrow can get almost competitive when you total up all the debuffs, but the problem is the *time* it takes to get all those debuffs out there. You may only get a few seconds of actual debuff stacking because the first ones are expiring as you're firing off the last ones. On large, capable teams, most spawns are smoked before you can get all your debuffs laid down. Solo, by the time you get them all out there *you* might get smoked. The problem is that although Trick Arrow in aggregate can approach or approximate the debuffing throughput of other powersets, it has to use multiple trick arrows in order to achieve on par performance in combat. That means that Trick Arrow often spends more time animating attacks and more endurance generating those multiple attacks in order to achieve almost on par performance with other powersets.
And even when paying those penalties where the debuffs are slow(er) to combo up for maximum throughput, the advantages are either negligible or inadequate ... at a price of needing to slot more powers for an almost equal effect in throughput as other powersets.
Mind, I'm not commenting upon the total effectiveness of TA - lots of people with far better research and numbers have weighed in here.
What if TA were able to fire two or three powers simultaneously? Imagine hitting a Lt. with Ice to hold him and Glue to debuff his friends with the first shot, or locking down a boss with Ice+EMP. How useful would it be to lay down OSA and DIsrupt together?
It'd be interesting to see how this could be implemented. Would it be a separate power that replaces something else? Maybe attach it to Flash Arrow - Click on FA, then on one or two other targeted TA powers, then click FA again and all three fire together.
ANyway, I'm sure there are lots of pratfalls I'm not thinking of, and as usual coding it would probably require a complete rewrite of the entire set, but hey, it's just an idea. -
I think Adeon is right here. Of course, you might get fewer drops per kill but on a good team you can make up the difference by the huge numbers of kills.

Personally I'd talk to customer support and see if they can reinstate your account easily. If you remember the email address you used to register it, they can probably ask some identifying questions and take care of it. Shillelagh is a good name, I'd hate to see it go to waste.
But realistically, if you're not that invested in the old characters .... meh, up to you. -
Quote:DK, I'm glad you warned him of that. I messed up long ago - don't remember what I did. I think I started with City of Villains, and when I upgraded with GvE version to get Hero-side, I accidentally created a second account. One more thing I haven't seen mentioned yet that a lot of new folks get tripped up on going from the trial to the full game... Make sure that you upgrade your existing account in the account manager and do not make a new one when you purchase the game and apply the code.
Luckily the good folks in customer support got it all straightened out for me. That's always an option if you mess up the 'upgrade' -
Quote:Glad we could help. Go tell all yer friends!I would like to add that the Ultra Settings are awesome, and the game has a real comic feel to it... I also love the idea of not having to LOOT everything I kill..Nice change of MMO pace.....
Once again thanks for all the help, I will be purchasing the full game tonight once I get home and put the kids to bed...Looking forward to it...You guys made my decision easier...
