How much time do you spend, say, RPing and trying to keep up with the chat channel? Or in a trial with someone giving instructions/trying to give them yourself? Or any other situation where you have to keep up with already moderate to fast moving chat?
-
Quote:That analogy doesn't work, because they don't just announce the start of the event. Or even the start and occasional reminders. They CONSTANTLY SPAM THE DAMN CHANNEL through the entire event. It's more like: "APPLE PIE WILL BE GOING ON SALE IN 10 MINUTES! THIS IS GREAT APPLE PIE! JOHN SMITH JUST BOUGHT A SLICE! THE WILSON FAMILY JUST BOUGHT A WHOLE PIE! COME ON GUYS AND GET IN ON THIS! AND HERE'S ANOTHER FAMILY FOR A PIE!" etc, etc, etc for the course of the entire sale. Oh, AND SHOUTED AT THE TOP OF THEIR LUNGS SO IT DROWNS OUT EVERYONE ELSE AND YOU CAN'T JUST TUNE IT OUT.Except your analogy would be better if you stated the Manager of Denny's came into the main room and yelled "Apple Pie will be going on sale in 10 minutes!" The admin channel is used to announce ya know.. game stuff not totally random stuff like "woohoo my team just won the superbowl!"

When I'm having to constantly scroll through bold red spam to see chat that I've missed during RP? Yes, it does interfere with my playstyle THAT much. It's not a big thing to ask. Lighten up, someone asking for a minor courtesy isn't going to interfere with your playstyle THAT much.

So, on the Freedom Friday on Facebook, I asked about this and was rather put off by the dismissive attitude I got from Frietag's response. So, I want to toss it out here to see if I'm crazy about this:
It would be nice if they'd make another channel for the GMs/Devs to use during live events rather than spamming the admin channel which is unfilterable and scrolls EVERY DAMN WINDOW. I'm not against them running live events. Quite the opposite, actually. But, if I'm not interested at the time, I'd like to be able to carry on chatting/RPing/etc without BIG BOLD RED TEXT scrolling all of my windows constantly.
Frietag's response was they want everyone to know what's going on so they can get involved, but, really, the comparison I used is it's like being at Denny's with your friends talking about a movie and suddenly the manager pops up and starts shouting about football.
Sure, announce the event in the admin channel when it starts and maybe a line now and then during to let people know, but using they go WAAAAAY overboard with the spam. It's obnoxiously disruptive. And being told basically "We know it's annoying but tough @#$%, it's for your own good" is extremely off-putting. -

When was the last time you used Dark Armor? 'cause it's nowhere NEAR as obscuring as it was. In fact, the effect was kinda hard to see last time I played with it. And I hadn't changed anything from default.

Quote:My point is that "fun" can't really be quantified by the raw stats. Even if you're looking for functionality, Mids can't always give a fair picture of what can be done with a set. A set can look bad on paper and be awesome in application. Some sets take more skill to use than others, and those are generally the ones that look bad on paper. Not at all, as previously stated my first lvl 50 toon was a Spine/Dark Scrapper - Which was pre Mid's days as well - (not to mention pre reduced debt - and you had to walk to the hollows and run away from lvl 20 troll mobs - in the snow - barefoot - up hill - both ways.
I do take your point and meaning though. Having a viable build @ lvl 50 is usually what I am looking for in mids. Enjoying game play with the toon (lvl 22-50 in this case) without SO's on Dark your an out of breath walking debt badge - is actually kind of what I am getting at - granted it doesn't seem to get much better @ lvl 35 thus far - unless I want to spend oodles of infl on IO sets that I will probably replace 1/2 of when I get to 47. Given that now days if you play a toon regularly it doesn't take very long to go from 35-50 that seems fairly ineffcient. -
Quote:If you're using Mids and raw numbers to tell you whether something will be fun to play or not, you're doing it horribly wrong. So when are you guys going to do something with dark armor? After poking around in mids for a while I quickly came to a conclussion, Dark Armor is pretty freaking horrible. Ironic that my first lvl 50 was a Spine/Dark Scrapper. (Yes, I remember having to keep a kin or two on pay roll for SB because of end consumption) ((Also note: this was pre-IO days)) But after looking it over again with Mid's I still don't see any builds that make me say "Wow, that might be fun to play". I decided to muck around with a Dark Tank, still not sure what Secondary to take, I did manage to get a Dark/Ice up to about 35ish but am leary of putting any Set IO's in it. Yeah I know, just get it to lvl 50 and take incarnate stuff to make it work.. bleh - and people wonder why farmers make so much money.
This set could really use some help IMHO, I guess the Tier 9 power as "Soul Transfer" should be taken as a sign? -
Quote:I've heard conflicting stories. Some say they'll be cycled back in, others say they may eventually end up cycled into the general market. I'm a T9 VIP and not only am I fine with the latter option, I'd prefer it.Yes, I did do the math improperly there. However, my point was not the money, as I do not wish to buy any months. The point was that, for those of us who just pay VIP, we will need to wait a huge amount of time to be eligible to get the amazing rewards, but they won't be available when we do so. Honestly, I am fine waiting, but it won't help if the rewards are being cycled out.

/auctionhouse is actually new with Freedom and is a fairly high tier Paragon Rewards perk, I believe.

Quote:Technically, Futurama is post-apocalyptic. ...in fact, I think there were multiple apocalypses between the current day and Futurama. When I think "post apocalyptic", the first two things that come to mind are Fallout and Gamma World, both of which have a humorous bent. The third thing that comes to mind is Mad Max, which still isn't particularly depressing - more like a pulp adventure, really. Indeed, I'm having trouble thinking of something post apocalyptic that's depressing.

Quote:That's your opinion and that's fine, but it's clearly not the majority opinion...And has been done to death. No, wait... It was done to death, buried, left to rot for the last 5 years, then forcibly dug out of the earth and assembled with spit and paper.
I'm actually shocked and dismayed that Fabulous had put forth such a tired and cliched trope. Especially since it is almost always portrayed with drab and muted earth/dirt tones.
Edit:
If there is one genre that I despise, it has to be "post apocalyptic". It is almost uniformly depressing. The whole artistic movement has people with no imagination other than to see how much blood can be splattered or how much the human race has been "wrong" about whatever the artist has a beef over. -
Quote:Well, considering Yellow and Green lines didn't used to be connected, you'd be correct.I recently discovered that using the tram to go from the north of steel to the south of steel didn't require a player to sit through a loading screen. I'm almost positive this used to not be the case, does anyone know when this awesome QoL upgrade got added to the game?
One of those was yellow line and the other was green. ( Which was a pretty damn pointless split, IMO... )

That is, I think, what a revamp would be aimed at fixing. "Revamp" doesn't mean "pretty up", though in some cases it has included that...

Wait...I didn't see the psi melee mentioned among those sets.. Or am I blind?

We're geeks ( Seriously, if you're playing this game, especially if you're serious enough about it to go to something like the Player's Summit, you're a geek. If you say you're not, you're just in denial ). How does this come as a surprise to you?

Quote:PvP in this game is and always has been more of an afterthought. It was not in the game originally and was kinda shoehorned in after launch in response to player demand. It isn't and never was the primary, secondary, or even tertiary focus of this game. What's there is a "bone" thrown to those who insisted that all MMOs need PvP to survive.PvPers in other MMOs aren't given the shaft to the same degree they are here.
Yeah, there may be a dev or two that absolutely loves PvP, but it's kinda the back corner project of the game. And what is there was never intended to be as cut-throat competitive as it is in certain other MMOs. -
How dare you interfere with a good "WAAAH! THE PVPERS WERE BEING IGNORED!" whine with facts!
-
Thing is, Longbow goes as far as to establish a long-term military presence there, trying to enforce foreign law on sovereign soil. That's a LOT more than chasing down fugitives in strike-and-run operations.

Quote:Funny, I find RPers on Virtue all the time without events. That's not why they organize events, they organize events so that RPers from different social circles can get together. Or, you know, the events are part of their RP in many cases. Seriously, if you can't find RPers on Virtue, you need to take the blindfold off....On Virtue, the roleplayers are so scarce that they need to organize events to make themselves easier to find.

Quote:Yes, how dare those jerks RP publicly in an MMORPG?!?!I’m not sure this is even the right place to post this but maybe a developer will read it a say that my idea is a good one instead just a complaint so here goes.
Problem Role Players are always using broadcast and local chat to spam the start zone and any other zone they feel like hanging out in .
Solution make a chat channel that is for role play chat only.
That way us non role player can be left in peace.
Second problem how do I know if this person wants to role play or just play the game.
Answer you already have the help me and helper tags people can turn on. Add a third Roleplayer tag that all of them can turn on to let anyone who looks at them know at a glance that they welcome Role-play.
that’s all I got to say If any of this sounds like a good idea or just hogwash feel free to let me know. -
Longbow are pretty much loose cannon vigilantes. They're intent is good, but they definitely take it into villain category. TBH, Wyvern's at least as bad. Just less prolific.
