That build actually isn't great for s/l farming in my opinion because it relies on Vengeance. You can build a perma Drain Psyche blaster with softcapped s/l defense and high resists and use it for solo ticket farming. I would actually recommend Archery over DP too. Here's a build I threw together a while ago. Drain Psyche is half a second from perma but I doubt that's going to make a difference, and I'm pretty sure it would have overlap with Ageless.
Edit: Also, considering the (granted s/l specific) survivability of this build, it has the benefit of only needing to use red inspirations, so damage can be capped as long as the bodies keep dropping.

Quote:General consensus is that TW/FA is only build that can rival SS/FA, but SS/FA still wins out. Mainly due to Rage....and the non-issue of crash from same.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=282845
Regardless, this thread is about a rebuild for a Ss/FA/MU.
The thing about ticket farming is that it's easy to keep your damage capped just using reds and not so easy on the caves to hit 750 before the first rage crash. You might say it's a non issue, but when rage is down you're not doing any damage at all and it effects speed- Plus you have to watch your endurance more vigilantly. I'm aware that this thread is about SS/FA and I already shared the build I have on mine as well as relaying past experiences with it.
Regardless of primary though, I think the best philosophy for a ticket farming build is to go for recharge and Fire defense. The original build posted here was lacking in the latter. I find that aiming for around the 32.5% mark on fire defense still allows you to build good recharge and not hurt any of the powers you'll need. Aegis, Scirocco's and Performance Shifter are good sets to include in a ticket farming build to help reach that goal. -
Quote:See, one of the reasons I don't give specifics is because out of all of the advice THB just threw out there, I only agree with about three lines.
That doesn't make his advice wrong or even bad. It's all good stuff, it's just not the way I have gone. It works for him. My slotting works for me.
In my defense (pun intended) the OP seems to already be struggling with survivability issues. I don't think they're quite ready to take on the Tri-Form Zen Master's approach of playing with no defense to speak of, hence my slotting advice. -
Quote:We need to try this again sometime. I have Clarion now, and Degenerative T4'd.
Baha, indeed. Alien and I did it very sporadically at about one in the morning the other night. We started it off by derping it and coincidentally doing the first mission on +3. It wasn't planned at all and no proper strategy was formulated... We ended up using lore, and I hit Rom in the face with some envenomed daggers, so no bragging ensued. It was still fun though- I have my Brute on Virtue, so send me a tell next time you're on and you feel like doing something. -
For the first build, you have some sort of clever muling going on there but I'm not fond of the sacrifices it's entailing. Your Essence Drain doesn't have the best enhancement values, and I'm assuming you're running it in your ST chain since Bolt is under slotted and it doesn't look like you have the recharge to run the Bolt chain anyways. All in all the first build really isn't bad, I just wouldn't personally use it.
A tip for purpling your whole attack chain is to put the Hecatomb (proc only) into Essence Drain and use the purple hold proc in G Well. it's also nice to cap off your Shadow Blast with a Glad Javelin Toxic Damage proc.
I see what you mean about the recovery lacking on the first build, you're going to struggle in single target fights. If you end up running that build, make sure you get Ageless and equip it whenever you have enough break frees handy to not need to run Clarion. The debuff resistance from Ageless is awesome too.
I'm pretty out of it right now but I'm actually not seeing a difference between the 2 builds you have posted here. -
Oh well. At least we got to duo the ITF before your kind of but not really hiatus. -
For your Nova attacks, only slot the AOE's. 5 Positron's Blast (skip Dam/Range) is a good choice for both. Put a Force Feedback +Recharge proc in the cone too.
Dwarf is your best bet for ST damage (AV fights) on a Tri-Form build so I would say put 4 Kinetic Combat sets (everything but the KD proc,) a Nucleolus Exposure, and any ST damage proc in Dwarf Strike and Smite. 4 Kinetic Combats (again, skip the proc) and 2 Touch of the Nictus is a decent way to slot Dwarf Drain. For both Dwarf Mire and Sunless Mire, use 5-6 Obliterations.
Gravity Well should be slotted the same way as Dwarf Strike and Smite. Gravitic Emanation would be fine with 5 Stupefy (everything but the KB proc.) Put a Steadfast KB Protection and a Steadfast 3% Defense somewhere- Absorption and Gravity Shield probably.
Dwarf itself can be slotted with 1-3 regular Resistance IO's. Nova itself should be 1 slotted with a Performance Shifter: Chance for +Endurance.
You shouldn't have Detonation or Unchain Essence on a Tri Form build because Nova is going to dish out more AOE than those powers- Unless you want Unchain for the stun component, in which case you should still slot it with 5 Positron's Blast (skip the Dam/Range.)
Dark Extraction needs to be 6 slotted in most cases. 4 Expedient Reinforcement (never use the resistance bonus IO) and two Soulbound Allegiance- Dam/Rech and Chance for Buildup, is the best slotting to use. If you can't afford the SBA purples, use comparable pieces from Call to Arms. The goal is to ED cap Damage and Recharge for Extraction and retain decent accuracy values.
You don't need the leaping pool for a tri form build. I suggest taking Concealment (pick up Invisibility and Grant Invisibility for 2 free LOTG mules- One slot them all and never use them.) Your last LOTG's should be coming from a 1 slotted Shadow Cloak, Maneuvers, and Vengeance. You can also 2 slot Tactics with Rectified Reticles to stack with the other defense choices I suggested.
Stygian Circle should either be 1 slotted with a Recharge IO, 2 Slotted with Efficacy Adaptors for the HP bonus, or 3-4 slotted with Performance Shifters for the HP and Recovery bonus. This all depends on your build though.
You definitely want Quasar on a Tri Form build. 5-6 slot it with Obliterations, double stack your Mires every time it's up, and destroy everything. One small blue and Stygian Circle, and your end bar is full again. Tri Formers don't have to worry about toggles dropping for obvious reasons.
I don't suggest slotting Gravimetric Snare for you. Drop it for Gravity Shield and use it for one of the Steadfast IO's I mentioned earlier.
You might want to 6 slot Dwarf Antagonize with either Perfect Zinger or Mocking Beratement for the Defense and Recharge bonuses. -
Quote:Regardless, it was a build suggested in the "Very Best Farmer" thread months ago and even after months of AE nerfs, I easily PL a toon from 1-40 (private) in about two runs at an hour each (full Cave map).
I think that with the move to Cave farming, Titan Weapons replaces Super Strength as the best farming set. -
I'm not saying Kinetic Combats are the most profitable or even one of the best options, but the fact is that the amount of investment that they take is so minimal that the profit % is going to be high. I'm not worried about obtaining converters assuming they can be purchased with Astral Merits, which I believe they can- I haven't been doing beta testing... On Freedom especially, Astral Merits grow on trees. I have ridiculous amounts stockpiled on my main already anyways, and getting more is a joke.

Quote:Against single targets, ie, some of the long AV fights in Incarnate trials, if there are no adds around for FS you'll actually be doing more to increase the damage of your team mates by focusing on your secondary. At that point, all you need to do is fit Transfusion into your attack chain for the -regen.And you'll note that I specifically stated that the level of recharge necessary to make that chain work was impossible. So I have to wonder why you're intentionally trying to mislead people here.
The reality is that Kinetics/Sonics is a classic "it looked good on paper!" build that fools a lot of people. They think of it as "damage buffing and resistance debuffing" when the reality is that it's "damage buffing or resistance debuffing". You can do one or the other well. You can't do both because you don't have the time.
Granted a Cold/ or Rad/ would be a better choice IMO, but that's not to say that a Kin/Sonic can't do very impressive things if played correctly. Maybe the problem is more that you suck at playing Sonic than anything else you're saying.
Quote:But every time I point out this simple truth, Sonic fanboys come out of the work to spew nonsense like "you can stack up to 100% resistance debuffs!".
Quote:If you enjoy playing Sonic Blast with Kinetics, go right ahead. But if you switch to a different blast set, you'll almost certainly notice a marked improvement in your capabilities.
Rad blast is probably the next best choice after sonic, followed by Ice. Fire is so retardedly good on a Corruptor that you'd be stupid to play it on a Defender. Dark is very controlly, I guess an argument could be made for pairing it with Kin but it wouldn't have anywhere near the solo potential of Monster/AV hunting that Sonic does- Then again, nothing would. Sonic has the most potential to be useful in a team environment also- Like it's been pointed out already, the -res on Defender's Sonic is beastly. Rad, Dark, and Ice Blast's secondary effects are going to be heavily resisted by AV's and GM's so when it comes to tough fights, Sonic wins every time. When it comes to mowing down fields of adds, you're a Kin regardless so your best contribution is going to be your Primary regardless of what you pair it with. -
Quote:I was nabbing the Kinetic Combat KD recipe for 100-500k in bulk and AE tickets can be used for the rare salvage to craft them, so the profit margin is actually significantly higher than your projection- Assuming the selling rate for the other pieces in the set stay the same. % profit is more the name of the game for me- The Kin Combats are essentially "turning water into wine" and it requires almost no up front investment whatsoever.Hmm, invest say 2M for the Kinetic Combat KD, spend 3 Enhancement Converters to get one of the other 4 with an average resale of say 65M, for a profit of around 21M per Enhancement Converter. Arcannaville and I will be doing something else that in her words "produces hundreds of millions of inf in value per converter token on average". Do you still disagree?
-
Quote:The good thing about Rage for ambush farming was that you could hit the ticket cap on an SS/Fire before the crash so you never had to deal with it. When you take rage out of the picture, SS falls on its face.I know I am going to catch flak from this next statement, but i rarely use rage for the sole reason i hate crashes. I do not have MoG, Elude, Unstoppable etc on any other toon, nor do i have any nukes that crash.
Edit, before the most recent nerf to ticket rates it took about a minute and a half to reach 750 tickets which is the max you can get from a run. I hope you meant 5-10 minutes to reach your inventory cap.
Any PVE map can be farmed for purples. Look for the Demon Farm in PI (I forget who the contact is) if you want to purple farm on a Fire Brute. Set your mission to -1x8 with bosses turned on. I personally farm the repeatable Borea missions in RWZ on my Warshade if I feel the need to farm for purples (which isn't something I do often.) -
Quote:I was under the impression that purple recipes do not drop in AE farms?
Thanks for the input everyone.
TwoHeaded, what nerfs are you referring to about the time/profit ratio?
Purples don't drop in AE, that's why they asked what kind of farming you were using the build for.
The decreased amount of tickets per enemy defeat is the most recent- That's of course after rezzed enemies stopped dropping rewards. At this point, clearing the front room of a standard fire ambush on 54x8 leaves you a couple hundred shy of 750 per run- Cave patrol maps are now the fastest/most efficient way to farm tickets and imo, SS isn't a good pair for that kind of farming due to the rage crash. -
Quote:A Kin/Sonic could probably solo a GM and duo the game with an aggro soaker. ST damage is actually pretty important if you're a player who likes to be self reliant. Not to mention against tough targets even in a team environment, stacking the -res from the Sonic chain is increasing the damage of your whole team. This is the sort of comment that really makes me wonder if the poster actually plays the game. Except in very long AV/GM fights, Defenders tend to be constantly switching targets rather than concentrating on one target because the targets don't live that long.
To generalize a great deal, Sonic blast powers do 30% less damage in anticipation of the fact that you'll do 40% more once you've used two powers. Which is a nice scheme except for the fact that you won't ever get a chance to use that third (and subsequent) power on the bulk of what you fight.
It's also a scheme that really falls apart when significant parts of your 'rotation' are non-Sonic abilities from your primary.
Even on AV/GM fights - where you do blast away repeatedly on the same target - shaving 5 secs off the fight is far less important than actually surviving the fight in the first place.
That's why "good single target damage" tends to be the "she has a nice personality" of power set descriptions. Single target damage isn't really what matters in a Blast set - you're going to get very similar performance from virtually any Blast set in that regard. -
Quote:) People who use Enhancement Converters on low-demand rares are stupid. But see 1) above. It's best done on VRs.
Going to have to disagree. I've bought up about 60-100 Kinetic Combat KD's that I plan to in-set convert. The price on these hasn't been spiking like the Ragnarok KD IO so I'm not sure how many others are cornering the Kin Combats- Maybe the demand has been there but there are so many being produced that there hasn't been a drastic price increase, I'm not sure. If this results in the set as a whole rapidly depleting in value I guess it's a win/win because I can use them in future builds anyways. -
If you're hitting the target cap I don't believe you can stack it further until it expires. Like I said the effect is perma w/1 common recharge IO and Siphon Speed is going to be helping you out if you happen to derp it and only hit a few targets on a cast.
-
imo the enzyme nerf isn't impacting the market for Oblits, that's silly- There are more effective ways to build up s/l defense from bonuses (Kinetic Combats, derka der.) If the enzyme nerf is going to drive up the need for anything, imo, it's going to be LOTG def, def/end and Cyto's.
-
That's going to depend on the recharge of your build and any accuracy/tohit global bonuses you have. FS starts with a base 60 second recharge and a 45 second duration, so I can't imagine it having too much of a need for recharge enhancement. Just one level 50 recharge IO makes it perma without any global recharge bonuses or siphon speed taken into account. I would generally say to just slot it with a couple of accuracy IO's to be safe.
-
I used my SS/FA for ambush ticket farming but sadly after all the nerfs the time/profit ratio just isn't good enough for me. You might want to look at the build I ran anyways though- It's a fire exclusive, cheap and (at least formerly) effective build...It *was* capping tickets before Rage crash but now with the move to patrol farms I'm thinking I'll need to reroll TW/FA for the competitive AOE and no crash.
Edit: Incarnates are Agility Core Paragon/Ageless Core Epiphany/Ion Core Final Judgement/Reactive Radial Flawless Interface

I don't keep up on PVP too much, but I would think ?/?/Sharks Stalkers are going to be even more awesome than what I've already read since APP's can crit now (and also Stalkers in general given all the other buffs.)
-
I've never seen a build posted quite like that, hah.
The amount of slots per power ultimately isn't going to give us any useful information because we can't see what you have in there. The lack of mids on a mac is a bummer and I wish there was an alternative for it- That being said, all we can really do to help you out is give basic slotting advice.
Have you read The MFing Warshade? That's probably the best advice I can give you with the information you've given. -
Quote:Oh noes... we don't want to bring Arcanaville into this section of the forums now!
Next thing you know, you'll be saying 2+2 = 4, which is essentially the same as 5.
O.o
Seriously though, thanks for the time you put into putting the build together...
"Alien"
Well no, I promise there is no practical difference between a .2% difference in defense. Dechs even confirmed this for me once so I know I'm right.
Anyways just in the interest of conversation... I always find that when it comes to building defense without Dwarf, it's most 'comfortable' to get s/l/e/n to 32.5% than softcap s/l. You might like this build, I just made it on the fly and I'm kind of worried about the endurance usage still, but it might be workable. Not expecting you to use it or anything, just posting it for funsies.
Edit: Just made a slight tweak, updating the datachunkCode:| Copy & Paste this data into Mids' Hero Designer to view the build | |-------------------------------------------------------------------| |MxDz;1533;675;1350;HEX;| |78DA6594594F135114C767DA295DE86AA52D2085B674A1A5A503685CD3A8441382B| |15A9727D30C3040930A4D0B88C608A8C42590F8E2D7F0458D7E14BF8442F4CD97F1| |70CF9F16994927BF33FFB3DC73CFDCCEAD8D29F7A79BDB2549F65EAF6BAD56F5A1D| |66C2D69F3BABD3257D397E774E9F0B2D33D78E4A9DE5E58D0975BB575BD70FFF16C| |53AB57AF51E66AB4ED9FD24FF8AFAE3535C9555E59A9172A0D5D9FF708F3466D716| |9B5B6BCE8134F333AA552815AC37DF4DC20A714A1A5F3746FBB255C06FDE892D60E| |155928B214266340912C11E63AF964F659E5281969F2C5984A1C4C309F50AC95632| |DD618415524C7158BA0AB6415DCA1181BAFAED846E1CB33DD05B0C8F4AACC384DCD| |8EFEEC39AEEB0537A89E136B3AD19F1FFDF9D1D75B8AE9169B3094EEF35CF3D405F| |022F3F425F032F329E578B06F4F8F2CB4901F54B86EC4CE7C46B13EC4FAD043043D| |F4A18731CCEA3DC506B0FF408AD7EA4B33CF64C02C339A63BEA39C20E7D88265429| |C7C77C0BBCCA10A98E139E713CCE794DB235EAE21F560666F480BA35EF8336B435F| |98B1AFE037F03B33B1C3BDEC526E2FFAEF1D672D31014E3287CF82E79832BDBF7E9| |CB87E71E202A40C60620398EE30A69BC2545398F21EAD38881507F7B962EA8099FE| |0DFE014BCC4DCA8963D771EC7A8BB4244E41728CA733320E2679AD910C33FB91EB8| |4A8CF0C4E57067D66D157167DBEA0BA398EB1E5363966740BDC065F32F3AFC0D74C| |2BD52FA07E0127672CF6FF895128A6885915D1838A59A90E8E51D1CB4F57FBDF2AC| |962D2FB1D4596A739AAEB0167FF32451F74148BBCCB33E8DA633A3EE0742A27BF1F| |4342119335B2266FD1A4A82665C2A44C9A946993326352CA0A3E64ED1D39FDF44D6| |2C5B8475E27BC4EE1FD1BA22DF17E8D1FC18E5D76896FA1B01F1DB3B563F6EC31FB| |1FE57EF308| |-------------------------------------------------------------------|

Quote:Well his main build with lower defense values fits his purist standard, so I figure I should try to convince him to mule Dwarf on his softcapped build- It's just more practical.Oh and do not be be persuaded by THB's attempts to make you go away from your human only purist build.
If you took Dwarf and used it as a set mule you'd not be Human only and you'd not be Biform.
Instead, you'd be BicuriousTM.
