Quote:At the risk of sounding ignorant, I will ask: what the hell is that, even? Where is it? I dont even know where that is.....
This game gives you NO basic tutorial. I looked around on their forums, and every tutorial I can find is about crunching high-level numbers or what have you - there is nothing for people coming in on the ground floor, who don't know anything.
The only thing I remember being told about in the "tutorial" was blocking. That is NOT MUCH. they don't tell you how to level up, I was in the tutorial and had no idea how to get out, or even when that would happen.
Perhaps I am spoiled: in CoX the tutorial spits you out in front of a trainer, and tells you to go talk to them. I was level 5, running around the beginner zone wondering Who do I talk to, to level!?
Turns out you DONT level in there, but a little info would have been nice so people know what to do next. I am aware that all this makes me sound of small intelligence, but many of us without a lot of non-CoX MMO experience are doing a bit of flailing, I think.
The energy builder is your first attack. When you use it, it builds up energy (like endurance.) Blocking also builds energy. You need energy for charge up/maintain powers, self heals, active offense/defense, etc. I thought the tutorial in CO did a decent job, and when it came to getting acquainted with builds like I said earlier I just asked around on the forums.
It does tell you how to level up, but that might not be until you get to Millennium. It's actually super easy- You don't need to go to a trainer, you can train right from the icon in your power tray.
As for getting out of the tutorial, open up your mission log and make sure you select "make primary" every time you get a new mission. This will give you an arrow over your character that guides you where you need to go, and it's not just for the tutorial. -

If we're talking about actual AT buffs, not buffing individual sets..
1.) CO/DCUO status removal. Mash a key to break mez.
2.) Raise the HP cap. I mean jeez. Let people build how they want. If you build for teh HP, it will come.
3.) Rebalance all secondaries around /Mental. Same way Light Form works relative to eclipse- The benefit to Eclipse is that there's no crash. The benefit to LF is that it's a low risk power. Keep similar drawback/benefit ratios in mind. That's what the dev's seemed to be doing with i24 though. Except other sets would need a debuff too. /Fire could maybe get a sort of Eclipse/Melt Armor deal, maybe a self +res per target, opponent -res instead of +end that Eclipse grants, but with lower values per target. I'm sure there are other ideas for ranged play but Fire works best in melee anyways. Just one idea.
4.) Increase pool toggle/epic toggle mods. Blasters don't get a fair bang for their buck picking up these powers at all. I'd say match them to what Defenders/Corruptors get.
5.) Come up with some nifty mechanic that applies a stacking crit or dmg buff for using melee powers. Reward high risk power usage.
6.) FFS, let Blasters share the Brute damage cap.
Now, all of this might sound OP to some of you. But that's ok with me. -
(54x8) Carnies. But I also love fighting them because of how much I hate them. Every time I'm like, "I'm gonna best these cheating bastards." And I've pulled it off a few times too.
Oh and I forgot about Arachnos. I just hate them because they're evil. Stacking -end from multiple sources, so I can't just kill the Sapper like with Malta. And on top of that, piling on -defense. I an an endless, defenseless level 12 pre-i22 Stalker at all times. Cringe. I've never ever solo cleared a full map of 54x8 Arachnos on any character. They're too evil. -
lol Stone that is the most OP inspiration tray in the world

Quote:Rule of thumb is that if it shows up in your set bonus list and isn't purple or pvp, it follows set bonus exemp rules. But I digress obviously.Yeah, you'd really have to try to come up with a more comprehensively silly system than IOs. I still don't know exactly how static bonuses like the +3% def from Steadfast Protection work with exemplaring, and that's after years of messing around with Mids.
Quote:The problem with CO's specializations isn't the system. At a glance, it doesn't look too complicated. You get a bunch of apparent choices, half of them are trash, so you take the ones that aren't. MMO 101. The problem is that the best way to find out which options are trash is to get the advice of know-it-all players (another MMO universal), but the CO forums seem to be less populated or less stable or something. I found some pretty comprehensive guides to the freeloader Archetypes on a different set of forums, but forgot to bookmark them. Whoops.
Anyway, the truth is out there. Somewhere.
And to avoid getting mixed in with whiners and haters: I like CO. I fully intend to understand all of this nonsense and maybe even find it necessary at one point, once I'm better at the game. It's super fun, the production value is high and I dig the art. One of my favorite things about CO is that I think it knows that it's a super hero video game. One of the worst things about COH for me has always been how annoyingly tryhard the writers are. I mean they write these tacky characters like they have meaningful stories. CO doesn't take itself that seriously, and to me, that creates a way more fun and entertaining environment. -
Quote:Yeah I can empathize with this a bit, but I went on the CO forums seeking direction with the free form build process and it seems logical albeit unnecessarily convoluted. I think it's probably like explaining how IO's and Incarnate crafting works to someone who didn't play COH though- Just one of those things I expect to naturally pick up on more and more as I play the game.I tried really hard to get into it but I had to stop. It wasn't the visuals for me it was the confusing power and skill options and upgrades that got me. Superstats and armor and specialisation trees, it all feels clunky and tacked on.
I'm having the same trouble with TL2. -
My friend posted this video on Facebook earlier... Super awesome.

Question about lolpvp: Do we have to stick with our original respective Blaster/Defenders, or can we alt?
-
This whole hippie thing is such a shame to me. I feel like these delusions are preventing so many people from playing the game and spending time with their characters while they still can...
Make the best out of the time you have left instead of clinging to an unrealistic future. -
That was definitely a fun adventure! We had a few no shows, but I learned some valuable life lessons. Well, COH lessons.
1.) Some Virtue catgirls are actually girls.
2.) Not all Kheldians are created equal.
3.) Using temp powers is important.
4.) Sometimes your buddies bail on you. Glares at AIB, Grim, Microcosm and Dechs.
After we somehow managed to fail a Lambda, we tried a MoITF on 54x8. A couple of us alted to non Khelds, but our alien brethren didn't pull through for us during the first mission.
The next step was turning the difficulty down, at which point we stomped Rommy in possibly record time.
Here's the crew at the end:

Quote:Could you elaborate ?
What I see here are
1. People who didn't think blasters needed buffing and didn't want a buff.
2. People who didn't think blasters needed buffing but were happy to get one.
3. People who thought blasters needed buffing but didn't like the nature of the buffs.
4. People who thought blasters needed buffing and were happy with the buffs.
I know it might sound like semantics but there really is a difference between any of these and what I've been saying. The Blaster archetype to me wasn't in need of a buff, many of the sets available to Blasters were just in need of re-balancing. Comparable to what I was saying before, I think it was the best idea to balance around the best possible sets; Sort of what we saw for Blaster secondaries being revamped with +regen via Mental. The nuke and snipe buffs were nice too but those weren't Blaster buffs, they were blast set buffs, shared between 3 AT's. -
My favorite example of awesome designing in COH is Titan Weapons. Everyone knew Super Strength was the best prior to TW, but instead of nerfing it to be in line with everything else, they released an alternative that worked differently but performed at roughly the same level with comparable max potential. It seemed like they were doing something similar with Bio Armor compared to FA, and it's what they were finally doing with Resistance bonuses vs. defense bonuses too.
I don't think the game should be entirely around peak performance, but I think once a peak has already been established an effort should be made to bring other options up to the same potentiality.
And of course this is where people start talking about power creep... But meh. I think the COH difficulty controller is enough to counteract it, and Incarnate content can be challenging for anyone. As good as it might be, there's no way even the most decked out SS/FA is gonna be able to solo a MoM or something. -

I've been on just as much as I always was, if not more. I've mostly been just logging in my main, chatting with friends, hanging around Atlas or soloing missions. Freedom still has a pretty good amount of activity, hell I still see people trying to sell farm runs in the help channel.
