- For some reason your Windows 3.1 won't recognize it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry, that should read:
"To your surprise, it won't install on DOS 2.0"
(And BTW - when I was 12, the ONLY computer I had access to ran on an HP 2000 mainframe via a teletype terminal aat 100 baud (no K), and was called 'STT1' (It was a Star Trek simulator written circa 1973); and I STILL don't consider myself 'too old' for CoX).
[/ QUOTE ]Similar here. But I was 17.
Congratulations, Steelclaw. You made me feel old AND young at the same time.
[/ QUOTE ]
The first computer I had access to was a Vic-20 which you connected directly to your television set. I was around 10 at the time.
Each key had a sub-set of "graphics" on it so you could literally make graphic programs using only Print or Printtab() commands.
I created a boxing program using stick figures in this manner.
The memory on it was so small that anything more ambitious than an Adventure style text game would deplete it.
It didn't even come with a disk drive... you had to use a tape recorder to save your programs... and lord forbid you forget which digit counter your saved file began at.
And yet.. here I am... still kickin'... wheezin'.. but still kickin'..
There's a Country Western song that sums up how I feel about my age. It goes like this:
"I ain't as good as I once was... but I'm as good ONCE as I ever was."
[/ QUOTE ]TS-1000. Membrane keyboard, each key also had a "function" option for a single BASIC command/keyword. The 1000 stood for the 1000 bytes of memory. Yep, it had a whole 1k. Also saved to audio tape.
I still have it. And my Amiga 500. And my 18" slide rule . . . .
Gotta go, nurse says it's my nap time. -

The problem with that Daemodand is that not everyone wants the whole world to know their global.
[/ QUOTE ]
This.
If I'm in a global channel with someone, they can know me there. But there's a distinction between character and person, and I'd like to keep it that way.
[/ QUOTE ]
Anyone who knows your toon name has access to your global name. /get_global_name is available by just knowing someones toon name. I guess I'm not seeing how there's a distinction.
[/ QUOTE ]
Most people still don't know that you can do that. Yes, it's commonly known here in the forums, but frankly I don't need j random SPAMMER seeing my global under my toon's name, either. Make it at least half a minute more difficult for them to get it, thanks.
[/ QUOTE ]
Also, when someone switches toons, even though I know it's the same player, when I see a different toon and a different name, it feels like a different character has joined us. Like Mondo Man called up Wonder Weasel and told him there was a team that could use his help more than they could use Mondo Man's. Some of that would be lost if the same global was hanging over their heads. -

Well, you know the standard answers about PVP, time of day, don't advertise, go in with a group, etc. so I won't go there.
If there were a PVE way to get these, I'd expect (a) you'd end up with the minions, or the LT at best, and (b) like the warwolf whistle, it'd be non-repeatable outside of Ouro.
[/ QUOTE ]You might be onto something here. A non-PvP, non-repeatable way to get a Shivan, or ONE of the nukes. Give us a taste and I might be more willing to take the chance in the PvP zone.
Intro to Ouroboros Arc: defeating the meteor gives everyone a Shivan of their own. (I'd call mine "George".) Only once per character, just like safeguard temp powers.
Nuke: ??? -

I noticed it too, also thought it was another person pissing them off for a second (people do that, no clue why) <snip>
[/ QUOTE ]People who've heard about this "farming the wall" thing, and decide to see just how tough it is.
Not that I've actually done that . . . .
-
I don't PvP. Period. I'm not interested in combat with other players, and the attitude of trash talk and "leetness" poisons the entire concept for me. (I realize that not all PvPers are like that, but the bad apples have spoiled the entire barrel.)
I just wish there was a way to get Shivans and Nukes without going into a PvP zone. It would obviously have to be more difficult than in the PvP zones, to compensate for the lack of PvP risk. Just so long as I could do it without going into a PvP zone.
I'm not asking for some kind of immunity, so I can safely run the tasks in the zone, because if I'm not going to accept the risk, I shouldn't be in the zone. I'm asking for a completely alternate way to earn the temp powers.
I know the zones are frequently "dead", especially in the mornings. I know the tasks are in PvP zones in order to draw more people in. It doesn't matter. I'm not going in there.
I just wish there was an alternative. -

They changed the screenshot filename format from this:
screenshot_2009-06-30-00-00-00.jpg
screenshot_yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm-ss.jpg
to this:
screenshot_090630-00-00-00.jpg
screenshot_yymmdd-hh-mm-ss.jpg
[/ QUOTE ]
Great, now our screenshot filenames are not y3k compliant...
In all seriousness I have to assume that change "helped" something.
What that something was I haven't a clue. *shrugs*
[/ QUOTE ]
OK.. so who is going to make the utility to update the names of the hundreds of thousands of screenshots I have under the old format?
[/ QUOTE ]
Bulk Rename Utility
Free context menu add-on. Right-click on the folder containing the files you want to rename, and select it from the context menu. Has MANY renaming options.
Can do this by just removing "-" from the first X characters of the file names. -

So is dropping a Karma -KB into Acrobatics itself stupid or fiendishly clever? (PvE only)
[/ QUOTE ]
It would be feindishly clever..... if Acrobatics accepted Set IOs (it doesn't) It would be nice if you could slot KB IO sets. 4 slotted Kin Crash would be the bees knees here.
[/ QUOTE ]Drat! Another fiendishly clever plan dashed to pieces on the jagged reefs of reality!
Curse you, reality!

Thats why I read the Dev Digest and Community Digest posts under Developers Corner forums for new announcements. Rarely is there any consistency around them but you can see what officially has been said by any of the developers or community managers.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't check the fora as often on the weekends and I settled for a quick check of Announcements on Friday night. But even if I had noticed the thread, my weekend was unusually busy. I would not have been able to respec all the characters I had in mind in time.
I was expecting more than 2.5 days of lead time, and I certainly wasn't expecting all that lead time to be a weekend.
-D
[/ QUOTE ]"7 days/a week's notice" has been mentioned several times. What's that based on? -
"Hamidon Mitochondria Electrolytes' Electrolytic Blast will no longer chain indefinitely."

Robots.
Toasters are expendable. People aren't.
And Heroes shouldn't play with Dead Things. -
I expect every one of my characters with the Pink Pom-Poms of Doom will be getting those changed.
Other than that, it depends on exactly how it's implemented.
If it's just a list of pre-selected choices for the entire powerset, it'll depend on the choices.
If it's the full range available in the Costume Creator . . . the possibilities boggle the mind. And if it's for individual powers, I don't know [how long] it'll be until I actually play the game again!
Captain ZZapp's getting blue-white lightning.
ATARU (AR/NRG Military Combat Robot Prototype) is getting the brightest red effects I can give him.
If Archery/Trick Arrow can color the arrows (which would surprise the heck out of me), Jade Dart's going to have actual green arrows.
edited to fix stupid typo -- now preserved forever in a quoted reply....grrr -

Here's what happened.
I was in the mood to fight the Warriors, one of my favorite L20-29 foes. So I entered the AE and hit search: keyword: "Warriors".
It's a fairly common word, so I expected several pages of results
Wow. Battle Maiden's Warriors are fairly popular for a faction that only shows up in one arc in the main game.
And they're in a whole bunch of one-mission arcs using the same map, mission descriptions like "lvl u xp fast". I start a few of them and see that they are all pretty much the same. Same map, 1 glowie.
Why the redundancy?
Supposedly some farms get banned.
If there are farms already available, why would a person want to make an identical one, using up one of thier slots?
Is it because they want to have easy access to a specific farm without having to search? If so, why would they leave it published when they are done, unless they are trying to get "X number of users have rated your mission" badges?
I don't get it.
I'm not trying to complain about farming itself (that's already been done).
But why risk one of your own slots to the ban-hammer if exactly what you want is already available? If optimum farming is about getting maximum XP in minimum time, why waste time throwing together a farm at all? Granted, dialog like "go kill" and "nub go" don't take a lot of thought, but still...*shrug*
[/ QUOTE ]Because they are far from the "elite" of Farmers, and can't figure out all this stuff that even non-farmers can? -

What if slot 0 was a lizard man? Does that mean if an alternative slot is a human man, he puts on a human mask?

How about this?
Influence/Infamy ("Inf.") is a virtual money system used to reward us for doing things that support our "bosses"' goals. Heroes do good deeds and earn Influence, Villains do bad deeds, and earn Infamy.
(While the usual in-game rationale is that Inf. is just our reputation, and we're trading on that for the goods we need, many of the things that have been added to the game simply don't work with that. So I assume Inf. has become a formalized money system that the various "merchants" accept in exchange for their goods and services.)
Doing things in MArch allows us to improve our skills and abilities, just as if we were doing things in the "real" world. Because we are improving ourselves and becoming better able to support our bosses' goals, they grant us full credit for our virtual actions so we can still purchase the things we "need" for maximum performance. -

I think it'd be nice to let the five year vets skip a few early levels...
[/ QUOTE ]Assuming it would allow you to jump to any level up to the limit (for those who only want to skip the first few), where would you draw the line? 20? 30? 50?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd be happy with level 12, for the DOs, but I'd really love 22 for SOs, although I don't really think that's reasonable. If I could start a character anywhere from 10-15 I'd be happy.
[ QUOTE ]
Wouldn't anything less than 50 cause MORE complaining?
"I can jump to 20, but I want to get to 30!"
"Why do I have to grind the last 20 levels when I just want to get to 50?"

I think using petitions as a means of extracting revenge or for laughs, or against people you simply don't like, is scummy. I don't agree with those who feel they're bettering the game by reporting costumes, but as long as they're doing it without double standards, I'll respect them for it since they believe are trying to better the game and its community, whether I agree with it or not. I also especially can't stand those that try to enforce their morals upon everyone, or think that there's some moral dilemma regarding what happens in a video game.
[/ QUOTE ]Now, see, if you'd said something like that to begin with, you wouldn't have gotten flamed so badly.
But the first thing you said was "I don't petition people because I'm not a [censored]." Clearly implying that anyone who does, is.
[u]This[u] statement is a reasonable stand. Some of us feel that if no one reports the violations, it could end up hurting the game. So we do. You disagree, and you don't. That's fine.
