    Consider this combination of facts:
    - A Controller's powers hold things in place
    - A Controller without support might be lucky to survive 5 attacks from a boss, and sometimes as few as 2

Once the mob is mezzed, its not going anywhere, but it sure does remember the last person who attacked it. So there is no way I'm going to chance running off to the next group so the boss, who was previously frozen, can come charging down the hallway and shoot me at range before I stack control on it again. What I'd really be hoping for is someone who specializes in single-target damage (like, say, a Scrapper) to take the boss out so I don't have to play hide-and-go-seek with it while trying to deal with the next group.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But isn't it you out of sync with your team if you are the last remaining person playing around with the last mob. I have several controllers and you over exaggerate the issue given spawn distances, line of sight, etc.

    [ QUOTE ]
Maybe, if the Tanker guesses correctly and picks the same group to attack, and everyone else in the group realizes it was just the impatient Scrapper who jumped in the fight and holds their shots until after the Tanker makes it in.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But even if the tanker did not guess correctly, you will not aggro the second group just because the scrapper did, he will aggro and unless he is past the aggro cap for that group (a rare occasion in spawn mechanics) you suffer nothing by targeting what the tank attacks.

Confuse can diminish xp if a confused foe kills another foe.

    [/ QUOTE ]

For a single mob, yes, EXP can be reduced. Over time, however, the damage contributed by a confused foe means you're killing the mobs more quickly; and the EXP curve remains unchanged. Also, the amount of exp lost by a "minor" damage contribution by a source not on the same team as you is very, very minimal.

    ...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I still hear this one in fact last night:

    Player A:
You know that confuse power is costing us exp?

Me on my fortuna: But it is helping us kill faster, so it's a wash [on custom mobs who were mostly lt's and rezed after dying].

    Player A: Hardly.

Me: crickets chirping [another one who will never be convinced]

He left before the end of the mission, no one else said anything.

And then I've had other players who loved the confuse powers. Honestly I mainly use the confuse power when I have to to stay alive, not every time it is up, or to open a bunch of mobs when there's no brute.

[/ QUOTE ]If you got a high damage team then any damage confuse does is overkill and not needed and in a sense just leeching xp. It doesnt happen often but sometimes I get on teams with multiple blasters that take turns nuking so spawn thats getting like 1 or 2 hits in before its steam rolled is just causing xp loss because they would have died anyways in the same amount of time from said nuke.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Except if you're doing more then 50% of the total damage to the mob (as a group), then you're still getting the full experience for it, totally making that point invalid for the most part.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ahh but what about those pesky ones that by some miracle didn't get hit at all by the players!!!! That was worth the one post.
  3. [ QUOTE ]
    Right.

Well put me in 3 warnings and then /kick group. The reason this playstyle drives me crazy is that it wastes MY time as a support team member trying to figure out who just attacked what and whether its safe to assist them yet. While you might have defenses good enough to survive multiple things shooting at you, I and the rest of the squishies generally don't, and a Scrapper's ability to protect me if I miscalculate aggro is about zero.

And if you are wondering why the tank is standing around while you are running in, its often because s/he is trying to make sure not run toward the group she was *originally* planning to attack before you went charging in. There's a reason most teams designate a single person to lead the charge. It's to make sure everyone is shooting at the same group so the Blaster doesn't end up peeling aggro off the Scrapper in a mob she expected to be Taunted and fully controlled, while the Controllers blow their AoEs on the group next door. When someone runs in unexpectedly it's jarring and forces all other team members to recalculate their next move. How would you like it if the Storm Defender decided it would be more fun if they dropped a Tornado on the next mob because they felt like, it's fun for them, and it works when solo?

Further, I can't tell you how many times I've been playing an Ice or Earth Controller with a maximum damage output of around 20 when the team ran off and left me face to face with a pair of bosses who con pink to me. Extra credit goes to the Scrappers who do this while never actually turning off Super Speed as they run and aggro each new mob.

All of this said, it's not that I don't think a Scrapper can handle the alpha. It's more about communicating with the team and making sure we understand what you're doing. If the Tanker is designated as the, err, tank, that's who the group is expecting to follow. When you tear off on your own you at best waste our time while we rethink the situation and at worst get us all killed because we make the wrong decision.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I see more time wasted by 8 people attacking the last mob in a group and the tanker not going to the next group to prep the next group for the aoe goodness that no doubt the team has.

I also see more wasted time by the lack of thought some have when they are "left" fighting a single or two mobs to die. If you know your hero or villain lacks the ability to finish the job, is it really so hard a concept to move forward with the 7 other people on you team thus bringing the one or two mobs along be taken care of?

Also, if the scrapper aggros and there is a tanker on the team, doesn't the tanker grab aggro? And in those scenarios where the scrapper has run off and aggroed a second group, why aren't you following the designated "tanker" and let the scrapper die? (trick question cause you know the scrapper will live!)

My last comment in this game so few people understand aggro managment that their own individual actions are the things that get them killed.
  4. It is the recruting tool of choice.

Back to subject... Alot of players do no know how to set a pace. Toss in a few control freaks mixed with a few defenders that think they are the primary source of damage and often you find a slow team.

I have seen some fast paced tankers, but I do agree they more often then not are slower than most scrappers unless they have played a scrapper for at least 40 levels.

When on a melee I am the one setting the pace 9 times out of 10. I have had at least 4 tankers quit ITFs becuase they felt redundant instead of getting merits and exp.
  5. I would drop two slots from soul transfer and put them in your obisidan shield.

And just put a recharge in it. You have 15 seconds to retoggle everything, (enough for 9 toggles) and jump back in.
  6. I found it a marginal power not worth taking. I do find it funny thought that with all the previous discussions about how aid self is overpowered, it is the best way to mitigate the low resists of this set as well as veats.

Maybe there is another MMO with something like that and they got confused?

I know WoW has all kinds of wacky features. I heard you can set up a healing power to only heal until the target's health hits max, and then shot off, saving mana.

Assuming the guy wasn't just referring to rocking the aura (which is most certainly not preemptive healing as described) maybe this is what he meant.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Everquest had some heal over time spells as well.

  9. I have never seen it work Samuel. I think it is actually intended not to work to prevent speed ITFs by exemping down 4 50s pre missions and then having them unexmp during the missions.

    No one likes DA?

I am pretty lazy on calculating DPS but my chain is HS, Hack, Parry, Disembowl, Hack, Parry for long fights.

As an aside, I ran my BS/DA in my fun little lizard mission in comparison to my SS/SD brute. Both are fully IO setted. My scrapper is far more solid but for the majority of missions it doesn't matter because you rarely will fight non stop multiple waves of mobs.

    Spam Emails

I find it funny that there are so many people willing to jump in on a thread just to respond to move it elsewhere. Man it must really annoy you so much. But then again, your posts like that are as useless as the in game emails that are being complained about.

    No one likes DA?

I tend to disagree on peak potential, it takes a tight build with layered defense and resist but it can be done.

Plus it is amusing when somone tries to follow you.
  14. I do not fault you if your true intent is merit farming. I can undertstand exaclty why people look at your post and percieve that as the true intent.

Posi is vastly easier and faster with a team of 4,3,2 than 8,7,6,5.

You could have easily presented a scenario asking for a padded radio mission set to 8 with a 15th level.
  15. Look.... I made you read my response!!!! O.K. back to work with me. Have a nice day.
  16. I think they are fine as is. This keeps the mystical risk/reward ratio in line. Use some terrain to break line of sight and make mobs move closer to you and they will stop ranged attacks.

That is my tip of the day to combat the bad tactics picked up by the Meow generation.
  17. It is more profitable to keep the circle running.

people asking for a "healer" want at THE VERY LEAST one heal

    [/ QUOTE ]

    If only that were true...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I did a LGTF last night with an Emp Defender that spent all his time blasting. Didn't use any buffs unless asked and didn't even heal. We didn't often need the heals, but they would have been nice when we did.

Lol Emps that think they're Blasters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So you'd prefer he ignore his blast set, get the medicine pool and heal constantly? Because lol thats even less helpful.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No I think the logical answer is he would have like someone not to neglect part of their primary pool to assist their team when it would have been more beneifical in certain instances to toss a heal before continuing with his blasting.

But then again you would prefer to troll.

As a "veteran" (I assume that's what you meant to say,) you should know by know by now how Defenders and Controllers bristle at the term "healer." Many of us do not like to be defined by a single ability. If you wish to limit yourself by requesting "h3al0rz" that's you prerogative.

When the response to your "We need a healer." tell is "Sorry, not a healer." You'll know why. I tend to avoid teams that 'need a healer' like the plague.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have a lvl 50 kins toller, a lvl 30 kins defender, a lvl 37 Emp , and a lvl 24 Dark def. I never once got offended at someone calling me a healer. My ego is tamed when it comes to in game phrases that have been used for years now. Like I posted before, Many veterans (I included) know that many of the Def AT's come with a heal and a debuff/buff. And even then people are using the term "heal", their not deeming the populous of defenders healers.

Question, why does it bother you so much?, are you in need of that much pride in a VIDEOGAME that you need to correct someone if they ask for a "healer"?. Get over it, Defenders are the; Priest, Shaman, Medic, etc of City of Heroes. Don't act like this is your first MMO, and if it is, go Wiki MMO's, the general term "healer" is and has been used for years now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

"Healer" bothers me specifically because my Dark Defender was on the receiving end of the Kick button frequently for not being an Empath Healbot. Every team that gave me the boot ignored the fact that they only ever took around 2% of their HP as damage in each fight, no one was close to even dying, and we were steamrolling -- they weren't seeing green number spam, so they kicked me.

The only reason "healer" is such a wide-spread term is because every MMO before this one, and so far after, has had healing be the end all be all when it comes to dealing with damage. Buffs rarely, if ever, stack in other MMOs and buffs are also far weaker (though they last longer, which I'll get to in a moment). In WoW specifically, certain buffs that used to stack no longer do because it was causing people to "trivialize" content. Rogue, Warrior, and Shaman "enrage equivalent" buffs don't stack anymore, and in total, those only boosted damage by around 15%. The amount of additional damage we're able to obtain makes 15% seem tiny by comparison. The very fact that buffs last so long comparatively in their game is so that the heal/buff classes can concentrate on healing. That's it.

I don't care what "many Veterans know". As a veteran, I too know many people don't specifically mean a Heal Bot when they ask for a "healer", but at the same time, I've ran into far too many who want exactly that (specifically when I'm PLAYING my Defenders). As such, anyone advertising themselves as a "healer", or asks for a "healer", will find themselves either not getting on my teams, or will be removed from my teams. I have no tolerance for it, and if it's my team than it's my rules, is it not?

Defenders are not the "Priest, Shaman, Medic, etc" of City of Heroes. Get over it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have seen people limit thier choices for a kin, a rad, a stone tanker, no dark armors, etc. It is not limited to just defenders but defenders get the most bent out of shape.

I wouldn't expect you to sugarcoat it. I actually got a laugh out of it. I also couldn't care less if my posts injure someone's delicate feelings, piss them off, etc. etc.

People that refer to Empaths as "healers" are simpletons. 'Nuff said.
