Quote:I'm going to stray from the flocks here and recommend a Bots/Traps MM. It has the bag-of-tricks from Traps, plus it has a bit more mystique- even your fighting is done by gadgets. So I want to make a Hobgoblin type character(the villian from Spider-man). A shady technology-based character in a halloween mask I'm naming The Grim Gremlin.
So what's a good archtype and powerset combo to go with this concept. I was thinking an electric/traps corruptor or maybe a Stalker of some kind. Advice?
ETA: And if you really want to get hands-on, this model does give you a ray gun (Albeit not a very powerful one), and if you go with the Scorpion patron pool, a lazer-beatstick. If you're into that sort of thing. -
And still, the fact that Scrappers do just as much damage as Blasters plus having a surviveability secondary and the Critical Hit inherent when all Blasters get is more damage hasn't been answered
-
Quote:To emphasize that I don't have any actual problem with snarky vigilante characters, I give you my snarky vigilante character. Thanks for the warm welcomes. Sorry to hear that the concept is common, but I can still roll with it.

Eh. Far as I'm concerned, until a redname posts in the Rookery thread and says it or else stickies their own Rookery thread, it's a suggestion and not a demand.
-
My own character can border on Lacklaugh McGrumpypants on occasion, and frankly, his IC response when a bunch of drunk dudes show up demanding pizza and beer would be to leave.

They do, but it's not supported. Basically, they get a slot for free at 10, plus the same costume slot missions at 20, 30, and 40. Combined with the Arachnos slot, that's five costume slots total. They can also turn in Halloween event salvage for a sixth slot. However, because it's not supported, it won't show up in the costume menu, you can only access it via typed commands, and you can't edit it at the tailor, so it will pretty much be stuck as a copy of whatever your costume slot 2 option is when you unlock it.

Quote:This isn't the olympics, it's City of Heroes.Considering that using unslotted hover you can meet the Olympic qualifying time for the 100 metres 'punitive' is faster than 'slow'.
Where using the unslotted Hover you're going exactly the same speed as everybody around you who's just running normally. -
Hello, and welcome.
A word of warning, snarky vigilante sorts are a dime a dozen on this server.
Not that it's necessarily a point against you. Just letting you know. -
It seems like conceptually, the melee archetypes should lie on a spectrum between damage and surviveability, looking something like this.
TANKER -> BRUTE -> SCRAPPER -> STALKER
The problem is that Stalkers are limited to Single-Target Burst damage, which is such a ridiculously gimped restriction that the surviveability scale still goes
TANKER -> BRUTE -> SCRAPPER -> STALKER
But the Damage scale now goes
TANKER -> STALKER -> BRUTE -> SCRAPPER.
Stalker is at the bottom of both scales. Meaning it's pretty much worthless for the purposes of staying alive and making bad guys dead.
Well, aside from staying alive and making bad guys dead, what else is there for a melee class? -
Hmm. Well, it's an interesting perspective, but that leaves me with the next question, which is what should I be looking to accomplish with an Elec/Kin Corruptor?
-
I understand the rationale here, but there's a difference between slow and punitive.
-
Frankly, I'm of the opinion that since damage is all Blasters get, their damage should be the highest in the game.
I mean, literally. Tankers get crap damage, but they make up for it with the ability to create the unchallengeable, unapproachable best defense and resistance in the game, blowing Scrappers and Brutes (The two closest competitors) out of the water. Defenders get crap damage, but make up for it with Buff and Debuff modifiers that Controllers, Masterminds, and Corruptors (The three other buff/debuff classes) can only look at and cry. But Blasters, who literally get nothing in the world save damage, damage, a couple worthless Mez powers that are useless on teams, and more damage? Scrappers have exactly the same base damage, PLUS criticals, PLUS surviveability.
Blasters should be to damage what tankers are to HP/Defense/Resistance and what Defenders are to Buff/Debuff. They should be the unchallenged, unsurpassed, Best Damage In The Game.
Because that's all they get. -

Quote:I've heard it the other way too, where nothing can touch you because there's always a dodge, evade, twist, turn, duck, or ninja clone doll you can use to evade every attack.I think you are misinformed as to the meaning of godmoding.
Godmoding is literally "playing god" for another character.
"Dechs Kaison shoots you with his laser, piercing your heart." <- Godmoding
"Dechs Kaison fires a laser at you, aimed for your heart." <- Perfectly ok.
One statement gives you a chance to determine the outcome based on your character's ability. The other has chosen that outcome for you.
Less of an issue for a /Super Reflexes character, naturally... -
Alright, when I first heard about "Time Manipulation," my immediate thought is that a time altering power shouldn't have been a Buff/Debuff set, but a control set.
To that end, I put a bit of thought into it, and came up with my humble sketchings of a Time Control powerset.
1 Eternal Gaze: By gazing into an opponent's eyes, you can bombard his mind with visions of the vastness of space and time. He will be unable to react to his surroundings as his senses are overwhelmed by visions of eternity, but if disturbed he will be brought back to the present place and time.
Ranged, Moderate DMG (Psionic) Foe Sleep
2 Temporal Stasis: You can place a foe in temporal stasis, holding him helplessly in place. This temporal disruption can be damaging to the mind.
Ranged, Foe Hold, Moderate DMG (Psionic)
3 Time Phase: You conjure a field of temporal instability, making it impossible for your opponents to move. They can still attack. This temporal disruption can be damaging to the mind.
Ranged (Cone), Minor DMG (Psionic), Immobilize, -Knockback
4 Temporal Distortion: You can alter a foe's perspective through space and time, causing him to forget where he is and who his true allies are.
Ranged, Foe Confuse
5 Stasis Field: You can create a field of temporal stasis, holding several opponents helplessly in place. This kind of temporal disruption can be damaging to the mind.
Ranged (Targeted AoE) Foe Hold, Minor DMG (Psionic)
6 Time Shift: Your foe and his allies are all placed within a bubble in which time moves more slowly. Their movement and attacks are slowed, and their chance to hit is dramatically reduced.
Ranged (Targeted AoE) Foe Slow, -recharge, -tohit
7 Time Warp: You cause an area to jaunt rapidly in time, disorienting those caught in the time warp. This kind of temporal disruption can be damaging to the mind.
Ranged (Location AoE) Foe Disorient, Moderate DMG (Psionic)
8 Vision of Fate: Those within your gaze are shown their own lives in a single fleeting instant, all their trials and tribulations, the wholeness of their destinies, in a disorienting nightmarish jumble. Those affected are mentally damaged by the visions, which are often horrific to behold.
Ranged (Cone) Moderate DMG (Psionic), Foe Fear
9 Temporal Rift: You tear a rift in the fabric of time and space and wrench forth two wraiths, spirits that haunt the void between moments. The wraiths will fight by your side and can be buffed like any teammate. The Time Wraiths are resistant to Smashing, and Lethal damage. They also have a Defense bonus versus Toxic attacks. They are, however, slightly vulnerable to Energy and Negative Energy damage.
- Time Phase (Ranged, Cone, Minor DMG (Psionic), Immobilize, -Knockback)
- Temporal Jaunt (Ranged, single target, Moderate damage (Psionic), -ToHit
- Lash (Melee, single target, Moderate damage (Lethal), minor DoT (Psionic)
- Resistance (Auto, Self+Res (Smash, Lethal), Self +Def (Toxic), vulnerable (Energy, Negative Energy)
So. Thoughts? -

Quote:... Okay, honestly, that sounds like something Jack would definitely be part of. Jack being my main. What about the Midnight Club? It has limitations - it's magic-oriented and you have to hit a certain level and run an arc to get in - but it has great atmosphere, it's legitimately co-op, and even on ITF week, it's not really that crowded. The tea-and-books feel couldn't be more different from the vodka-and-techno feel of the D. Somebody could use it to hold a symposium on arcane threats, for instance.
I propose that this happens, yes.
