As a general rule Knockback is bad; either because it is used badly or because it is designed badly.
The former is a result of people either not knowing or not caring how KB affects a team (doing things like opening on groups with Hand Clap, slotting Knockdown powers for Knockback, etc). The latter is the result of unpredictable knockback (Kheldians, for example) so that you basically can't play the powerset without some knockback and you can never be sure when it'll kick in. -
Build budget potentially makes a big difference here so what are your constraints?

Or land you a role on Yes Minister (which I admit is probably a rather esoteric reference but I might find myself surprised).
-
My reasoning goes like this: The free points you get are just that, free. You're not paying for them, which is kind of the purpose of "free", they're a bonus for being a subscriber.
As a subscriber you get access to everything that Premiums have to pay for, plus Incarnates, plus SSAs, plus *some* powersets, costumes, emotes and so forth. This is similar to pre-Freedom (booster packs) with the only real difference being the Powersets.
Sure, a powerset may be 800 points and you only get 400 a month (or 550 if you're T9) but you might not want all the new pay-for powersets (I haven't bought StJ yet because I don't have a concept I want to play) so you can just wait a month or, if you really want it right now, you can pay for it.
As long as the devs continue to provide at least some of the new powersets, costumes and emotes to VIPs either for free or at least "VIP-exclusive in-game unlockable" then I don't mind having to "buy" some stuff on the market (even if it's with free points). If they start making every single new thing purchase-only, then I might start to change my mind. -
Quote:That makes no sense at all, unless they were planning to retroactively remove all the Emp merits you'd earned on BAF/Lamda since the trials started or you didn't know about the Emp merits being removed until after you'd completed the trial (and somehow had terrible short term memory so kept doing it).My bad, I assumed people would have read the notes before commenting. Here you go:
After the patch, just like a fine for a traffic violation or whatever, the currency I would normally be earning is being taken from me before I get access to it.
I can't even think of a suitable analogy for what you're suggesting because it makes so little sense. They can't fine you something you haven't earned in the first place, they can stop you earning it, but that's not the same thing at all. And they're not even stopping you from earning them, they're just changing the requirements. -
Jesus, you weren't joking were you. I admit, it's basically a small handful of Stalker fans who seem to be ludicrously wound up about how poorly treated they perceive themselves to be, but still, that's out of order.

I found this one interesting:Quote:It could be taken many ways, including: "We lose 5% of our playerbase a month", though obviously without the context of how many new players they were getting or how it compares to other MMOs it's hard to draw any conclusions from it. Not to mention that Freedom has rendered it rather a moot point as the playerbase has noticeably increased by a fairly sizable amount since then.
Our retention rate is insane; going into the Freedom launch, there was a 95% chance that if you were playing the game 30 days ago, you’d be playing it today. -
Does anyone ever suffer fools gladly? I mean I'm sure there must be people out there who actually enjoy the suffering they experience due to fools, but they have to be an almost insignificant minority.
-
I don't play on Freedom, but I would imagine that it is by far the "worst" server for that sort of thing due purely to the number of players and the law of averages.
The invention system has been in place for 4.5 years, so either the decline is so slight that it's doubtful you could link it to the introduction of the Invention System in any meaningful way or I've really missed something, because I've rarely come across anything that matches what you're describing.
And I wasn't just referring to WoW, but any online interaction between people (which in this context is primarily MMOs as well as other online games but frankly could be extended to things like Facebook and Twitter quite easily), for which I present to you [Link removed. ~Mod13] by way of explanation. CoH is still miles above the majority of other experiences in terms of maturity and general behaviour. -
I haven't really noticed any issues, certainly not ingame where I've seen loads of new players commenting on how helpful and welcoming the game is compared to most other MMOs.
As for the forums, the only time I really see anything even approaching animosity is when people do really dumb things, like posting the same thing over and over again worded slightly differently in the hope that people won't notice, or who ***** and moan about something that's been in place for months but that they hadn't noticed until today, or - as we've had recently - cry that the end of the world is coming on the basis of some beta patch notes which a) aren't final and b) most of the time they haven't even played yet, or who make inflammatory posts that are basically designed to wind people up.
Even in the context of all that, the worst that this game has to offer in terms of community is still leagues above the kind of childishness and abuse that you get in a lot of other MMOs and, indeed, regular online games. -

Interview with Brian Clayton about Freedom and the like. -
Quote:Could you please point me to the section of the patch notes where the devs announced that they will be fining you Emp merits for some reason, because otherwise that analogy is moronic.I don't know how it works in whatever country you are from but when I get a fine, that money comes from my wages automatically each week until it has been paid. The Emp merit fine too is coming from my wages automatically until it is paid. The only difference is the fact that I am never able to pay that debt. So I guess you are right, the term "punishment" isn't quite extreme enough by today's standards.

Everything is going to struggle in the teens as you get more powers but are pre-SOs (or comparable IOs) but anything with End Recovery powers is a good place to start.
Elec as mentioned, Kinetics, Ice Armour, Dark Melee, Energy Aura - in fact DM/EA is a very good combo for it as you get Dark Consumption at 18, Energy Drain at 28 and Energize at 35 - but it's always going to suck until you've got the enhancements to make those powers really effective. -
Equally, Stealth powers don't work which is a bugger for Stalkers, SoA and the like.
-
Which server are you playing on? Most have one or more global channels dedicated to finding teams and/or arranging Task Forces and the like.

Quote:I believe the argument is "OMG Incarnates are ruined for EVAR!!!" so why bother paying for VIP when you can get everything except incarnates as a premium player.Am I reading the thread title wrong, then? I read it as saying that Premiums will somehow cut in on the VIPs' "turf" thereby making the VIP option less appealing and making just going Premium a better bet. If this really is about Incarnates, then how are Premium players even relevant if they can't even buy access to the Incarnate system unless they go VIP?
-
It was supposed to be 3 months before they realised they couldn't award Reward Tokens in advance, now it's "Unknown".

Quote:Take your pick, either:What are you people talking about? I read the I21.5 changes and I see nothing of the sort.
They're nerfing AE because they hate farmers, I love farming so I'm leaving
They're nerfing BAF/Lambda to make us run the newer trials, I only run BAF/Lambda so I'm leaving
They're gating the new incarnate powers behind 15 E-Merits each, which is really stupid so I'm leaving (Actually this one is really, really stupid, even if the new powers aren't all that great in the first place)
They've done something to [my favourite part of the game], so I'm leaving.
Basically, it's your standard Beta Rage Quit Frenzy which will largely obscure the real issues that need to be addressed with the beta resulting in a worse outcome than if people actually tried to provide a reasoned argument as to why they think the changes are a bad idea. -
Everything else aside, Drain Psyche would be sickeningly powerful on a Tank. I want it now.
-
Union is the "other" RP server as it was the EU RP server before the list merge.
That's not to say that RP doesn't happen on other servers. -
To be fair, there's plenty of stuff listed on the market that doesn't exist in game at all, so simply listing stuff you can't sell isn't a great leap.

Excepting that the last two weeks they've published on a Wednesday instead of a Tuesday, they have said so up front; Thursdays are scheduled maintenance day, Tuesdays are patch publishing day - they don't always use those windows, but they're there.
-
2nd. And it's the weekly window for it (12-2 GMT/BST on Thursdays).
Though quite why they've decided to move "patch Tuesday" to "patch Wednesday" the last few weeks is something of a mystery.
