    Fixing Files?

I'm guessing you bought the architect edition box, installed off the dvd and are now running the updater? Well, that disk was released a year (+2 months) ago.

Our game has fairly significant free updates every 3-4 months, called "Issues", that add new content. The Architect was Issue 14; we're on Issue 17 now, and readying ourselves for Issue 18, due out in August (Along with a paid expansion, Going Rogue).

Your game is likely updating it's self to the current version (The accumulation of 3 major updates and a number of smaller patches). Welcome to the world of PC gaming, and particularly MMOs, where this kind of thing is completely normal.

Look, If it comes down to this, fine. Not happy, but, fine. I would just like to know what to expect before before it happens.

This is relevant to my concerns... losing ~12 mil will not exactly make me a happy camper (I know that's a drop in the bucket to some of you multi-billoinaires)... I wouldn't ragequit over it or anything, but...

I don't... I should copy my CoH folder to my SSD for a little testing. Currently using it pretty much exclusively for my win7 install (Windows loads really fast <3 ), but there's still 25 gigs free.

EDIT: 330M/sec... But I got that on both solid state and disk drives, so there may be some screwy cache thing going on.
  5. I replied in your other thread in player questions, short version of something to try;

copy cohupdater.exe to dektop. running that, it should fail to detect city of heroes, and ask where you wish to install it. Point it to the parent directory of your current CoH folder (pointing the coh folder will result in it re-downloading a copy to D:\[...]\City of Heroes\City of Heroes\). It should then install the missing registry files, and then verify the existing files in the folder (and download any missing/out-of-date files as necessary.

Steam seams to be able to self-fix any missing/incorrect registry values when executing the files. So after your OS install, running steam added the relevant registry files as they relate to steam.
CoH on the other hand - well, our updater seems to primarily check if the folder it's in contains the relevant files, if not, run installation code. So it doesn't self-correct the registry as efficiently.

I can't think of any way to simply insert the registry file myself, because I will not, not, not redownload this.
    OH! oh, oh, oh... I think I know... We've all missed an important point in your first post. We focused on steam, and ignored the whole reformatting of the primary partition and installing windows. re-reading your OP;

Operating system is on on partition C:\
Steam and other games is on (let's say) D:\
    Re-installed OS on C:\ ....

City of Heroes, unlike steam, is not so good at repairing missing/incorrect registry values on it's own. What you have to do is kind-of a mini-install.

-Copy (this is important; do not make a shortcut) cohupdater.exe to your desktop (or some temporary folder) and then run it from that location.
-The updater will create a bunch of temporary files and should ask you where to install city of heroes.
-Point to the parent directory of your current install of CoH (guessing "D:\steam\steamapps\common\" don't know where it would install under steam). Do not point to the City of Heroes folder or it will attempt to download the entire game again but to "D:\[...]\City of Heroes\City of Heroes\"
-the updater SHOULD create the necessary registry files, and then verify the contents of the folder (and possibly redownload files, if any are out-of-date or missing)
-run the game as you normally would, and if everything's working as it should - go and delete the copied updater and the temporary files it created.

Hope this helps. I think I've got everything correct... There is a guide to backing up/re-installing City of Heroes kicking around somewhere that goes a bit more into details, but heck if I can find it.

And before folks start asking about my computer/introwebs, this is a new problem (Wednesday night was my first experience of it) and has been happening to everyone I've talked to.
Personally, not sure, because my internet went a bit flaky round-abouts the same time (It's since gotten better), but I have beeen noticing slightly longer delays before the bar starts moving at all (And I seem to recall a dev post saying that once the bar starts moving, it's all your machine moving it)...

So, to answer your question, yes, but I've been having other network issues. I might be seeing the results of something else entirely. (And I don't really play on other servers, so I can't say if it's just Triumph, an entire coast, or every server. *shrug*)

For things like the Stealth and Knockback IO, I try to slot the lowest level one I can find so I can have use it of as I level up. If necessary, I'll use Merits to buy one. Inevitably, I will pick up a high level one over the course of play. I'll craft it an store in in my Base. When my character is in their high-40s and I'm doing its final respec to adjust powers selections, I'll take the opportunity to pop out the low Stealth/Knockback level IO and put in one of the high level ones because it doesn't matter at that point. This way, the low level IO is available for a new character.
^^^ Pretty much this, for me. Although using a respec to swap in high lvl procs an keep the lower level for new alts just blows my mind in the "why didn't I think of that?" department. I'll have to consider that next time I respec some of my more IO'd characters.

For some characters (mostly the ones that were lvl 50 long before IOs) I don't slot for set bonuses, but more just to improve their existing enhancement values. On those I get mostly franken-slot lvl 40-50 recipes (depending on the current market prices and availability). On my elec/dev blaster, I condenced what was 6 slots of enhancements in my atacks into 5, and then added a lvl50 endmod IO to each. On these Characters any set bonuses I may get are usually incidental.

Little tip for the OP; For common IOs, If you have the patience, you can often put low bids down on Pre-crafted ones, and get your order filled over time.

When people go for the crafting badges, they are often left with truckloads of enhancements that they cant use and take up quite a bit of space; their choices are delete, or sell. Often recouping even a small fraction of the cost of the IO is preferable to deleting it. (I was content if I offloaded them for 11 inf each, in many cases. If there was a bid, I listed the enhancement. Better that someone get some use out of it than no-one).

Although, I'd try to keep the number of these bids to about half my market slots, personally. Allow some room for other market transactions while you wait.

Used to work like that; then they changed it... And somewhat recently they changed the location of where new tabs open (from at the end of all existing tabs to immediately to the right of the active tab).... Thankfully that one is somewhat easily changed in the hidden settings.

Yeah. I do recall enemies being a lot more... eager?... to attack things you were tasked with defending. Now it seems like, unless the "thing" being defended is an NPC that freely attacks the enemy groups; all you have to watch out for is hostile AoEs.

^Outside, just white, not transparent at all (since you can see it through my transparent self^

^From inside, White, with what appears to be the shield texture on top. Semi-transparent, as you can clearly see through me to the outside (*cough* erm, yes, I did purposefully position it so the one-eyed monster was at my crotch. )^

EDIT: How'd you get your pics thumbnailed? [solved]

I believe Teleport is disallowed in the interior of the shield--- seem to recall that being an issue on a TF I ran once (wasted my team recall)... I assume this is primarily to help the hallways be the gauntlet they were meant to be, rather than on a TF, have one member TP past everything and recall the rest of the team.

So if that is the case, shield charge (and lightning rod) would also likely be disabled, seeing as they are basically short range teleports (with a damage component).
  19. Seems to be doing this a bit recent-ish-ly... had this happen in peregrine within the last week or so.

well, for second part, I use "Ad Blocker" and "flashblock" on all my firefox setups... The second one, I find, has helped immensely with adds that pop-up over the page within the same window. Downside is it will require you to actively click on flash object you WANT to load (youtube/flash animation/web games/etc)

  23. Every 4-5 hours still sounds odd, even if it was more within your level of tolerance. *shrug* Well, if it gets annoying again, I'd suggest heading to the Tech boards, looking up the "Common solutions & posting guidelines" sticky. Read the relevant bits, and if no suggestions work for you, look to the How to Post section, and follow its advice; Posting those reports it suggests is the best way to receive targeted help from the techies that reside there. Otherwise the best we can do is keep naming the usual suspects (old drivers, not enough/bad ram, etc...) until we nail down your problem.

    5) How often do you find yourself adding PuG members to your friends/global friends, and if those lists are full, using other methods of remembering them?

    1) 99.5% of the time. the other 0.75% of the time is when I manage to convince my friend to log into the account he continues to pay for.

    2) That would be the .25% overlap you may have noticed in #1.

    3) hmm... I'd say about 97% of the time they do well enough without my feeling the need to interject.

    4) 3% of the time, and most of that is polite requests to watch the knock-back (if possible), and TF related things (most notably directing the chain of hunts in Numina's, And that's mostly because I have paragon wiki open on my second screen.

    5) Not often... My global list is not full, but it's filled with accounts that either don't play at the same time/server as me, or haven't logged in in over a year. Mostly use the star rating system to keep track of exceptional players (Exceptionally good OR bad)

    6) not often... maybe twice a year, if that?

It should, however, be noted that the majority of my teams are found through my server's global channel, Triumph Watch, and my answers reflect current trends. Most of the regulars on there know what they're doing. Crazy and pantsless, yes, but know their stuff. Around the time when the AE was new, my numbers might have shown a different story (I'll always remember the scrapper that only took 2 powers from his secondary and loaded up on every available power in the travel pools, who blamed the rest of the team for his continued faceplants.)
