  1. For the record, I think that'd have been pretty awesome.

Oh, good thinking. Although, it (somewhat) subverts my desire to be surprised by the events / plot.

    ...wait, what? AE is Server-specific?

    ...

    My mind reels.

AE missions can be saved, though, right? As a local / text file? So, you could then, like, email it along to me, so it would even occupy one of my AE slots, not one of yours?

...all that said, I'm on Virtue.
  4. No, it doesn't turn you back, but you can set up a button that does.

    /bind KEY "powexectoggleoff power name$$cc #"

You can also do it as a Macro (which would be my preference) or popmenu. Guides (somewhat complicated) are available... here.
  5. I'd love a filter, so I could roll up Commons with my AE tickets, and make a killing.

Having your inventory fill with 'junk' is - to my mind - a deliberate design decision. You having to manually filter to make room for "new" incoming recipes and salvage is "part of the deal".

    IMHO.

    This is an awesome idea.

    For what it's worth - I'm interested.
  7. Chiming in to agree (to a large extent) with the OP.

This game is - in majority - about the character generation / generator.

As the Costume Designer becomes increasingly unreliable / shows it's age, the (perceived) quality of the game changes.

My suggestion (personally; take it or leave it) is to increase all menus from "2 deep" (Torso - Tops With Skin) to "3 deep" (Torso - Tops with Skin - Patterns), so that you have 25-ish items on a list, instead of 50+ -ish items on the lists.

But any other solution that works is acceptable.

For what it's worth, "Irresistible Inferno", "Fascinating Frost", "Milk Tank", "Gaia's Gladius", "Candi Colt" and "Martial Mirth" were all my first choices. I have (essentially) 10+ other toons, but I don't recall any of them being not-first-pick choices.

(Yes, I have an alliteration 'thing'.)

The only not-first-choice I have is Cynder Cat. She's also (related) my only mis-spelling. And I'm fine with the fact that someone beat me to Cinder Cat.

I'm just chiming in to agree with those who disagree with Silas.

I don't agree with the political policies of red dragons, the negotiating tactics of orcs, or the dietary choices of ogres. But as a Dungeon Master, I've played 'em all.

Similarly, I'm not sure that - other than being the dark part of the human soul - Anthony Hopkins had to "agree" with Hannibal Lector. Or Freddy, or Jason, or <insert evil character here>.

Sorry, Silas. Stated as opinion, about yourself, fine. But telling me that the fact that I've played 'let's pretend' as a monstrous character means I 'must' agree with them, on some level? Factually false.

Edit - I just realized I implied Anthony Hopkins played Freddy and Jason. While that would be awesome, it's not what I meant.
  10. Hello, all.

First off, I adore the MA system, for about five hundred reasons. But that's not what brings me here.

What brings me here is this thread (well, this idea).

I have no idea how hard a Mission Architect arc is to make for people who enjoy this sort of thing. I know I had a really really good idea for an Arc - the Freakshow have gotten ahold of Rikti technology, and are trying to incorporate it into themselves, and you've got to save the Freaks from the Rikti while saving Paragon City from the Freaks ... aaaand then found out that arc actually already exists in-game. (This reassured me my idea was good, though.)

My main is a Fire / Fire blaster (with no powers from her secondary) named Irresistible Inferno. She's essentially my answer to the question, "What if Paris Hilton was Batman?". She actively avoids recognition as a superhero (including a magical you-can't-recognize-me effect), while in her "normal" life, she plays the socialite media-hungry dilettante everyone knows - and most dislike. (Yes, I know it's cliche. That's the point.)

When Flambeaux was introduced, I immediately "adopted" her as Inferno's "nemesis" - a media-hungry Fire / Fire character. Flambeaux started claiming credit for Inferno's actions - and started resenting Inferno for "stealing her schtick" and - essentially - being the actual hero Flambeaux wished she was. It actually worked out really well with the tip missions as I leveled, to be honest - Flambeaux descended into, well, comic-book crazy, while Inferno solidly placed herself on the path to being a "real" hero.

So, here's what I'm looking for.

I'd like a Mission in the high range (Inferno is level 45) that's challenging for a solo character, and a small (3-5 character) group. I'd like the arc to explore Flambeaux's interactions with Inferno, with multiple face-offs with Flambeaux and her Henchmen-du-Jour, and Flambeaux attempting more and more outrageous acts to "get even" with Inferno for her (imagined) slights - really, to try to destroy, defame, or ruin the person she envies (but she can't admit her envy to herself, either). I'm willing to describe my character in further detail to the writer(s), if required to help make the arc interesting / stimulating. I'm looking for a story with pathos - a story I can get interested in, that's about my character, that I don't know the end of and am interested in.

And I'm willing to pay for it. (With Inf, mind.)

Special thanks to MaestroMavius for the idea.

This actually just occurred to me.

I'm pretty sure the math behind-the-scenes is:

    Is:
Number of people who will never come back specifically and because we took 'their' name...

    Greater than:
...number of people who will leave because they can't get 'their' name?

That's a reeeeally hard question. I certainly admit I have no idea how to answer it. I have a gut feeling, but I have no idea how you'd gather actual data on it.

(For the record, I feel the answer is, "You'd have more people that would never come back - although both numbers are quite small." But like I said, I have no evidence to actually support that hunch.)

Edited to add: I think all trial characters should have [TRIAL] appended to either the front or end of their name anyway, to avoid taking up "real" names. Upgrade the account to lose the [TRIAL].

    Free the names!

I wouldn't mind the "several characters, same name" 'problem'. Those who still want unique names can still find them.

That said, I think name@global would be ... cumbersome, at best, for 90% of purposes, and only make it easier to name characters. So I don't think that's a good route.

Other than a few characters, I've never had difficulty finding good names. I often use [Adjective] [Name] (often alliterative), though, which I've found most people want to avoid.

So, "...what names problem?" would be my response. I'm not opposed to "freeing up" names - but I think the "problem" would continue to exist, because it's mostly a perception issue.
  13. Just something I observed.

I have a companion that plays a single character only - they've tried one alt, and they weren't "feelin' it", so they switched back. They've been playing for less than six months.

While I'm not what I would call "rich", I'm "comfortable", and can equip my veritable army of alts with "pretty good" gear - Miracle and Numina uniques, Luck of the Gambler +7.5%, and Invention IOs.

Over the last 2-3 months, the character's progressed from having no "extras" in their power window, to having a fairly long list of benefits - all from cashing in Hero Merits. They'll do their five tips a day - which is about all they have time to play, anyway - and every 2 days, rack up a Hero Merit, and buy themselves something. So they feel they're doing "alright".

I inquired how this person was doing for money - and / or what they were doing for money. They replied that it was "kinda silly", which made me even more interested.

"Well, I've found, on the market, if I bid about 50 K for a level 50 recipe, it'll fill eventually, and then I can sell them to a vendor for about 90 K."

Yeah, I said. I call those "garbage runs", and nearly every marketeer has done them at some point. (They're also terribly time-consuming, but I didn't feel like mentioning that to them and spoiling their fun.) Hey, no risk, guaranteed returns, sounds great. So, how much have you made from these runs, I ask? What's your nest egg?

...they've saved up 300 million inf. From garbage runs. They've never bought anything (or "anything major"). Just "saving up" - in fact, they even said, "I just find it's easy - I put in my bid when I'm done for the night, and by the next day, they're full." And they still get a juicy IO every 2-4 days with Hero Merits.

So, for those who say money is hard to come by, and the IOs you want aren't available? I have to agree with the Goat - Patience pays.

Edit - Note that I'm not saying this causal player was "rich". I'm saying at a very casual basis, they're slowly assembling a nice build, and the cash to buy themselves (essentially) whatever they want.
  14. I'm sorry to see you go.

Please leave your suitcases full of play-money at the door before you leave.

...really, though, sorry to see you go.

...really, though, do leave the suitcases full of play-money.

    Bronies

    Proud Brony here.

Started watching the show with my 3 1/2 year old, at the suggestion of some people on a D&D forum I'm on. Got hooked. It's good.

I mean, it's not Shakespeare or anything, but it's pretty fun for a kid's cartoon, and there's actual characterization and development - which is more than you can say for most TV shows for "grown ups" nowadays.

    Lost badges

It's been months, but my main, Irresistible Inferno, a Fire / Fire blaster, lost "Volunteer Firefighter". It was her title (Fire / Fire blaster! Couldn't resist!) until I switched to Nimble Mynx for ... something, I can't remember. Then I went to switch back at the end, and...

...I was no longer a volunteer firefighter.

So I believe you all about missing badges.

Free is not always better. In fact, your post shows why it's not.

"Free" is terribly hard to come by. But "for $10" gets made.

Also, while it may not be your cup-of-tea, there's been a whole lot of cool, lately - Incarnate content and powers. It's not my cool, either - but it's definitely cool. Just because I don't like it doesn't make it not-cool.

Edit - How'd this come out as two posts? Apologies, apparently, I suck.

  21. I love the POPMENU stuff, I love Binds, I love Macros. So, question -

Does anyone know any slash commands that adjust sound effects volume, so I can adjust the BGM and sound effects without the options menu?
  22. I'm just chiming in to say, "I agree with Arcanaville".

And I find it interesting that most of the people in disagreement with Arcanaville have said, "I'm not going to get into a discussion of specific examples with you, as I don't have the time".

With the unspoken, "...to actually do the research to back up my argument like you back up each and every one of yours."

Yes, the costume designer can do skimpily attired women. It can also do skimpily attired men, plus clowns, tiger-things, robots, and a whole lot more. I don't think clown-men* belong in City of Heroes, but I don't forsee myself getting real upset when more clown-parts are added in the Circus Pack.

That said, I also support cries for "parity"** in costume parts. Partly because I really want that jacket.

Full Disclosure - I only make Female toons, because I prefer the female costume options by an immense factor.

    * - Alright, I have a Harlequin-themed character. I can't back this up. It's just for the sake of argument.

** - As long as "parity" doesn't mean "exact same parts for all models", but "equal or equivalent parts for all models."
  23. Don't play Masterminds.

    I'd still get the pack.

    /signed.
  24. For what it's worth, "The Eighties" had a pretty distinctive ("dark and gritty", supposedly) style in comic books, too, that had not-much to do with Hammer Pants or big hair.

...not that I'm any more in for a Rob Liefeld booster pack than a MC Hammer booster, but I do think the first is more likely than the second.
