The overwhelming majority of computer users have the wrong mindset. Most people need to understand that they will be using computers on a regular basis the rest of their lives. It simply is not a question of *IF* you will have a hardware failure causing lost of data. The only question is *WHEN*.

Microsoft Security Essentials works rather well for me. Much lighter footprint than AVG. And it's free. I was a big AVG user for years and heartily recommended it. It seems to have joined the ranks of bloatware and resource hogs of late though, so I've looked around and MSE fills my needs. Of course, I'm not the typical web surfer.

Also, I noticed that your Free Space on the C: drive is at only 13%. Windows gets a bit flaky with some things when free space gets below 20%. It's a hold over from the days of smaller drives, but they haven't updates some of the code as larger drives became available. I'd recommend freeing up as much space as you can and try to keep it above 20% Free Space.

That small amount of Free Space combined with the relatively low amount of memory can often manifest oddly. Combining the low memory with the low drive space and that old of a video card is really pushing it for CoH to perform well.

I haven't tried to use TweakCoH since I19 was released since it hasn't been updated since 2007. Since there are new graphics settings, I don't want to take the chance that the old program might adversely affect the current install. I no longer have my old computer running to test with, so that idea is out as well.

Perhaps one of these days I'll decide to get that one running again just to test things.

Until then, here is the link for TweakCoH. It was the first hit in Google. Use at your own risk.

Saw that after I finished my post. I started it before you posted the new CoHHelper output but looking up the links takes me longer than it used to when I had a file with the addresses of those pages. Guess I deleted that file too soon.
  6. Download and install Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista. You should also download and install any and all updates from Windows Updates.

You can download the 5-language standalone installer for Service Pack 2 using this link.

Please run CoHHelper again after installing SP2 but this time, right click on the file and select Run as Administrator so that we can get all of the information.

You might want to see if there are newer driver updates for your video chipset as well, but since it is an Intel chipset, and a Mobile chipset at that, I don't know if there is one available or if it will install if it is available.

  8. They stated at the Bay Area M&G that there is a publishing blackout Thanksgiving week.

    The Devs have lives too.
  9. Poor Jesse, he'll never get rid of that nickname now. Especially since he's made it known that he doesn't answer to that name.
  10. Question:

Are you using a US Installation of Windows, or a localized version for another country?

Are you set up for a non-standard date reporting format?

These are two things that can cause the dates to show like that, aside from the corrupted installation. Since both video and sound were showing the same date oddity, I ignored it assuming one of the situations above (or something else that triggers this type of date reporting) was a factor.
  11. Uncheck the Windows 2000 compatibility mode, it's going to cause problems.

It's not a problem with Alienware systems, it's a problem with one particular piece of skinning software. Alienware happens to install a version of that software on their computers.

Within the skinning software on your Alienware laptop, set it to not affect CoH. It's a variant of the Stardock WindowBlinds software, but I don't recall the name on the Alienware computers.

If you need assistance with how to do that, the Alienware technical support people are quite knowledgeable about how to do this.

It isn't something that NCSoft or Paragon Studios can patch, it's a problem with a third-party software and how it interacts with this game (and other programs as well).
  12. By any chance are you in SG mode?
  13. Find the connectors on the motherboard where the wiring comes from the front. The connectors are labeled. With the wires disconnected, touch something metal to the two pins for the Power. I generally use a small flathead screwdriver, but I've used a straightened paperclip when I didn't have a screwdriver with me. Make sure you don't touch extra pins.
  14. I ran a second system with a 6800 Ultra during I17 Beta and shortly after launch. Mostly it ran as a file server until I could get things transferred off of it, but I did a bit of testing and it ran the game ... decently enough. It was already showing it's age as was the rest of that computer, so I didn't game on it except for testing or for logging in my alt account for SG invites, promotions, etc. All of my gaming by then was on my newer computer with a 4850 in it, so there was no reason to play on low graphics settings when it wasn't necessary.

I don't recall which drivers I was using, but they were recent drivers at the time, somewhere between January and April release dates. I'm thinking it was the March driver, but it's been long enough ago that I can't recall for certain. I can't look it up because the power supply went out in July and I haven't worked on the system since it wasn't really needed anymore. That computer was no longer workable for gaming which was why I got a new computer in the first place. Seriously, the computer was 6 years old, it was well past it's time as a gaming machine.

Having a date range should help you find the drivers and since you've already said that you aren't going to run the scans we'd ask for to try to help you, all I can offer at this point is a hearty "good luck".

Your right. This is the best place for it... Unfortunately.
Kinda shocking that support advised you to post it on the forums though.
Not that shocking, they've been advising that for a while now. I think they got some new scripts.

It IS ironic that they keep telling people to post here since if you look at the heading of this forum section you see the following:

    Quote:

Technical Issues & Bugs Discuss technical questions and/or bugs here! This is NOT a forum where official technical/QA support is available. To report a bug use the /bug command in game. For technical assistance email support@coh.com.
It makes me want the t-shirt Black Pebble was wearing this past weekend even more.

    /facepalm
  16. Also, this is going to sound a bit silly, but check your /hide options.

    EDIT: Bah, simul-post with MB.
  17. Quite awesome.

I'd buy some of that if it was available here.

Of course, the DN artwork just adds to the desire.

    FPARN

EDIT: In fact, I'd drag around an empty shopping cart to fill up with them if they were available here.

If I had a CostCo across the street where they were available it would make it more handy.
  18. Rogues are still classed as villains. You just get visitor permits. IIRC, the drones in RV at the Hero Base still classify you as a villain as well and one-shot you. That may have changed recently. I don't go to PvP zones if I can help it.
  19. File a /petition once you are logged in. Give as much detail as possible. If you need more room wait with part of it until you can log in to the NCSoft support site and update the ticket with the rest of the information.

Also, you may want to get rid of that Note at the end.

Nope. Been in Texas for quite a while now. Went to one in Houston back in '94 or '95. They have since added more stores in Texas. Houston area has 3, DFW Metroplex has 4, plus another store in Austin.

Along with the west coast (and vicinity) states of California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Arizone, they also now have stores in Georgia, Illinois and Indiana.

Give them time, they are slowly but surely moving eastward.

Also, you might try their online site.

    Another AE Event

I don't know which MA arc to fear more:

    Cai's newest AE Event

    or

The community created AE mission from the M&G

I do know that Cai's will most likely be a ton of fun.
  22. Time to end my self-imposed exile from posting in the Justice forums.

Several things factored into this but none of them are really worth going into details on.

Well, one thing is worth going into details on. Saturday night at the Meet & Greet I was lucky enough to get a sketch done of Texas Justice by David Nakayama. The finished product speaks for itself, but watching him work was simply amazing. Poor lighting, limited workspace, and constant conversations with players were things that would have had me going crazy, but David dealt with them like the professional that he is, and even encouraged the players to visit with him while he worked and answered as many questions as he could.

    Here is the result:

Words cannot express my feelings about this piece or about David and how talented he is.

    Thank you again David.
