Alienware Stuck at Loading Screen
Uncheck the Windows 2000 compatibility mode, it's going to cause problems.
It's not a problem with Alienware systems, it's a problem with one particular piece of skinning software. Alienware happens to install a version of that software on their computers.
Within the skinning software on your Alienware laptop, set it to not affect CoH. It's a variant of the Stardock WindowBlinds software, but I don't recall the name on the Alienware computers.
If you need assistance with how to do that, the Alienware technical support people are quite knowledgeable about how to do this.
It isn't something that NCSoft or Paragon Studios can patch, it's a problem with a third-party software and how it interacts with this game (and other programs as well).
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Howdy folks. I have an Alienware M15X w/ 64bit Win7 pro Geforce 260M w/ 4GB RAM, and was forever stuck at the loading bar. After selecting Win 2000 compatability mode, and disabling desktop themes, admin mode, etc. I can now get to the big blue loading screen - but there it sits.
I've seen this problem brought up several dozens times and there is always mention of "this is a problem with alienware system and you need to disable something". They just don't explain how to do that or why NCSoft hasn't patched the damn thing to work with alienware laptops.
This is a 5 day old Win7 install w/ all updates, latest drivers (I like Nvidia's new install tool) and no spyware. I truly believe it is related to my system being an Alienware, but can post a Hijack this and other information if requested. I just don't feel it is useful at this time.
Thanks for any help you can give me!
