    Thanks Mermoine!

There seem to be quite a few Out of Context MoTFD's in my channels of late.

Only for those that can view them. Several players have problems with the PS Ustream chats due to laggy audio and video. The problem exists with the archived chat as well for some.

So it's been a crazy, wacky, weird and wild week. Issue 20 Launched on Tuesday (yay!) and some issues followed (boo!). To give everyone a quick run down:
    • Mac Black Screen issues with players using ATI Radeon GX Cards is still being investigated.
    • Issues with players character slots, both purchased and veteran rewarded, have been resolved. If there are any lingering issues with this, please be sure to file a support ticket ASAP.
    • Issues with players being removed from Incarnate Trials inadvertently has been potentially resolved. We're still monitoring the situation, so if it happens to you following today's maintenance, be sure to report it here.
    • We should have a fix very soon for players losing their Incarnate Bonus after dying during an Incarnate Trial.
    • We've been having a great time during our impromptu server downtime UStream chats, although we discovered that some artists have a thing for moonrocks evidently... o.0
    • A great way to know if and when we're starting a UStream cast is to follow us on Twitter or to "Like" the official City of Heroes Facebook page. Actually it's great to follow both of those options to keep up on everything CoH as it happens!
    • The Community Team will be keeping an eye on things over the weekend, and should we have any updates on fixes we're working on, we'll be sure to share them with you ASAP!

So everyone have a great weekend, stay safe and enjoy Issue 20!

    - Z
Zwickiback, it would be really nice if you guys could find a viable alternative to Ustream. Many of your players are unable to view these due to the continual audio and video lag problems. Even trying to view the archived shows has the same issues.

Why have they not taken the servers down for emergency maintenance during prime time to resolve this dangerous problem?

Even if they don't have a solution they should take the servers down for maintenance while they try to find a resolution.

I've upgraded well over 300 computers with SP3 in the past few years, both at work and while working on side jobs. I have yet to have an SP3 upgrade fail or cause system problems much less brick a computer.

I've seen one system that a co-worker was working on as a side job that continuously threw errors after installing SP3. After removing a few hundred bits of malware using various methods (slave hard drive to another computer - scan and remove, put back in original computer and boot to safe mode - scan and remove, boot into Windows normally - scan and remove) and then uninstalling SP3, removing about 40 more malware items and defragging the hard drive then reinstalling SP3 the computer runs fine and has for over a year.

I have yet to see a system "bricked" by upgrading to SP3.

I've heard reports of it, but most of them were discovered to have been caused by other existing problems that weren't resolved before the upgrade.

As Kitsune Knight says, turning on your computer could turn it into a brick. But ultimately such statements are quite silly.

The forums have also been down for me for the last 2 hours or so.

No one can access the online store. The Account Server is offiline while they are trying to fix some problems with the store and character slots. There are some other problems as well.

You can read more about the problems here. Please note that it states the following as well:

  10. People misinterpreting or misreading a badge description doesn't constitute griefing.

Not sure why you couldn't find it on Paragon Wiki (which is part of the Titan Network BTW) since this page is labeled Issue 20 Badges.

I typed in one of the badge names in the Search box and this is what came up. I also typed Pacification Grenades in the Search box and this was one of two results that came up.
  11. Are you running 32-bit Vista or 64-bit Vista? If you are running 64-bit Vista then you are trying to install the wrong drivers.

Sounds similar to some other advice I heard.

When it was brought up that soloists were going to take an extremely long time to be able to grind through old content to accomplish anything relating to the new slots, we were told that the TUT would help us in getting into the trials so we needed to be quiet about it being a grind.

    issue20 tuesday?

2 hours after starting the update and I'm still only at 85% completed. ~20 minutes of download left at the current speed and then it has to apply the update.

The pre-download system would likely have had me in the game in a very short time tonight.

    issue20 tuesday?

After an hour and fifteen minutes, I'm finally bouncing between 39-45 KBs/sec. Currently at 51% completed.

This pretty much matches the experiences I reported with the speeds when testing the new Launcher.

Guess it's a good thing I'm on the annual payment plan and I'm not up for renewal until November. Maybe by then the Launcher will have finished the download.

Just remember this Mari. Our Devs have told us in the past that they will not do things that reward repetitive and unfun behavior. So obviously, grinding away for these new shinies is not going to be repetitive and unfun.

Making these lists is a great way to participate in the CoH Community because:
    - I enjoy making people laugh
    - I enjoy making fun of devs
    - As a small child in rural Sasketoon Canadia I often enjoyed venturing out into the wilderness and poking bears repeatedly until they roared with rage.
    - Everything has its place in a list, everything in order, everything in line, clean, alphabetized, EVERYTHING IN ITS PLACE!

    Zwillinger is the best because...
    - No other Redname has the temerity to have a name that starts with a Z
    - He posts pretty pictures
    - What is this I don't even...

    Be afraid
    - Be very afraid
    - You will be
    - Indeed
In reference to the bolded portion above, I believe Steelclaw originally intended to include the question you asked (possibly with different answers) but couldn't remember how to spell your name and didn't want to wind up with an idiotic yellow title over his head.

Honestly Zweiback, you should have a bit more empathy for the players.

Any particular reason the devs *had* to use such a site?

Guess I'm not asking a question after all. Anyone want to bug them about proliferation (especially /nin for scrappers, ill/ for doms, and fire sets for defenders) for me?
Really? I just used Texas for first name and Justice for last name. No muss, no fuss, no bother.

Surely you could do the same with Muon and Neutrino.

What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

But, the choppy video and audio was giving me a headache. Hopefully, the video will be posted in a reasonable timeframe.

It would be nice to get a transcript of the chat text as well. Some of it was pretty funny.

  23. As Tex said, if you were able to play before installing the Launcher it should still be able to play. I have a test system with an integrated X1250 graphics chipset using the Legacy 9.11 drivers. I've successfully launched the game using the new Launcher.

Since you give no information about your system, just make sure you are following the links dealing with troubleshooting the Launcher on the Support site.

Here's one of Zombie Man's posts with those links.

Also, if you are running Windows XP, make sure you have updated to Service Pack 3. For any version of Windows make sure you are running the correct version of the .Net Framework. Uninstall .Net and reinstall it if needed.

EDIT: As Tex said in another thread:

When that happens, the objective becomes impossible to complete, and sometimes it's out of our hands.
From reading the OP's post, it wasn't clear that this was the point being made. It was never stated that mobs were being defeated before being found. The only mobs mentioned were those spawning in the room with the Harken and his guards being damaged by attacks but able to be clicked on to complete the badge requirements.

From what you describe, yes, it is something that needs to be looked at and probably changed.
