The Lawrence Harken Mystery Solved

The "Find Lawrence Harken" mission from Roy Cooling gives the player a chance to earn the No One Left Behind badge by saving all of the Injured Rogue PPD members while the building is burning.

However, I've heard reports of people saving them all and not getting the badge, so I went along with one such person to investigate.

What I found was that the NPC enemies guarding Harken himself will attack and defeat any Injured Rogue PPD who happen to spawn nearby! I was able to click the sprawled corpse and tell him to get out of the building, which successfully earned the badge for my teammate.

That oughtta put to rest this long-running anomaly. And it shouldn't be too hard to fix either.

Not sure where the problem is. Sounds as if it is WAI.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

The problem was that some of them die (from AoE) and disappear before you notice where they are. This results in that objective not being possible. I guess the OP is just saying you can still get credit from a dead one too, so don't lose hope if you see one of them die.. CLICK IT FAST! lol

???

There are two incompatible objectives interfering with each other. One of them makes the other impossible to complete, which means no badge.

Just like how the Rikti used to occasionally spawn on top of the objectives to be protected and destroy them before you saw them in the mission that gives the War Wall Defender badge causing the mission to fail before you even saw any of the objectives.

....

Although the Devs did later modify the spawn placements to prevent it from happening.

*huh* Okay, never mind.

That isn't what you said in your first post.

You said that you were able to click the corpse and tell him to get out and that it earned the badge.

You only earn badges if you complete the objectives, which you did by clicking the corpse. You got the badge for the teammate.

It's either impossible to complete or it isn't. You proved it isn't impossible, but you later say it is and completely contradict yourself. Badges often have difficult objectives in order to earn them. This one is difficult but not impossible.

Still seems to be WAI to me.

Just ran his arc for the 1st time with a new arrival from Praetoria. I had no clue about this badge though and felt pressured by the fire to hurry hurry hurry, so I only clicked the ones I saw right off.

Wish I'd known about the badge before hand...
Here's hoping it's still avail in Ouro!

Maestro Mavius - Infinity
Capt. Biohazrd - PCSAR
Talsor Tech - Talsorian Guard

And I still disagree. The badge is to save the PPD that are laying on the ground, but they are not necessarily dead. The bug/issue is the fact that escorts and other objectives now get damaged by AoE damage before you have a chance to even locate them, which causes these PPD to be killed (and then vanish from the map). When that happens, the objective becomes impossible to complete, and sometimes it's out of our hands.

[FWIW, there are several other missions I've found to be broken this way since GR as well. If it's actually a new intended policy, it isn't very clear, and they should have at least made such legacy missions fail instead of ending up with a cleared map and no objective to complete the mission]

Anyway... We're not saying the mission itself is always impossible to complete, only that certain circumstances and unlucky spawn points sometimes cause it to be. I had the problem myself and had to run it about 3 or 4 times to get the badge.. not because I couldn't find them or wasn't fast enough, but because the PPD died before I even found him. When I finally got the badge, it happened to be because I was lucky enough not to have any of them spawn behind the boss. It shouldn't rely on lucky spawns.

I don't think the act of them being able to die before you even see them is something that is WAI. It's not fair to "get them all" and not get credit just because you took a left turn and happened to be close enough (through walls) for one to spawn and die, and is gone before you even get around to the other room to find him.

Either way, like I said in my last post, I don't think the OP's point was really to bring up this as an issue again, but instead just to let people know that you can still complete it by clicking the "dead" ones (before they vanish). If I had realized this before, I probably would have earned the badge sooner, because I was too annoyed that my objective died to realize that it might still be valid before it vanished. lol

WAI or not, it's still good to know.

From reading the OP's post, it wasn't clear that this was the point being made. It was never stated that mobs were being defeated before being found. The only mobs mentioned were those spawning in the room with the Harken and his guards being damaged by attacks but able to be clicked on to complete the badge requirements.

From what you describe, yes, it is something that needs to be looked at and probably changed.

I agree it probably would have been better to have explained the problem first or link the original thread(s) explaining the issue. Not everybody might have realized what was going on. I only knew about it because I encountered it myself and posted in the original thread.... but at least we're on the same page now. lol

Anyway... to finish things off, I might as well provide the link to the previous thread. In it, I provided some help of my own for those who can't see the PPD to begin with.
