I don't know if this will help, but in the Launcher's File->Settings, in the General tab, try changing the "After launching a game:" setting to "Exit Launcher" and see if that helps.
-
Make sure you are running the "CITY OF HEROES" game in the Launcher, not "CITY OF HEROES TEST".
Also, right click on the game in the Launcher and check the properties and make sure the "Install Location" is correct. If not, just click the Browse button and point it to the right place. -

If you cannot get the Games.xml, make sure you send a PM to one of the people mentioned in the post. -
Some features tax the CPU as well as the GPU, especially the reflections, water effects, and shadows when they are on higher settings. Ambient Occlusion is practically all done on the GPU.
-
It is VERY important that those of you having problems getting the Games.xml PM your IP address and DNS settings to one of the Community team members (Beastyle, Avatea or Zwillinger) regardless of your location.
That is how you can best help us resolve this problem. -

Try reinstalling .NET and MSXML anyways.

The launcher will not recognize both installations of the game. But, it is unnecessary to have two installations of the game in order to run two instances of the game.
In File->Settings, in the Advanced tab of the Launcher, you can select "Allow multiple instances of a game to be launched".
If you need the two instances to have different command line arguments, you can create a desktop shortcut (right click on the game in the Launcher and select "Create Desktop Shortcut"), rename it and add any command line arguments you need to that shortcut, and then make another shortcut with different command line arguments. -
In the Launcher, check the properties of each game (right click on the game and select properties) and make sure they don't have the same "Install Location".
If they do, you should be able to click the "Browse" button of the incorrect one and point it to the right place. -

Not 100% sure this will work, but you could also copy your "City of Heroes" directory to CohTest, then when installing it, point it to the CohTest directory and it may be able to patch it up to the latest. This should be faster than doing the Consistency check, which will also work.

Yunalesca, you might want to try the instructions here:

If you can't access the http://launcher.ncsoft.com/GamesXML/1.2.4.9/Games.xml file, make sure you PM your IP address to one of the Community team members.
Quote:Please note that we are continuing to investigate the cause of this issue. If you are amongst the players who are currently experiencing this issue, information such as your public IP address would be extremely helpful in resolving the problem. Please feel free to PM that information to any member of the Community team (Beastyle, Avatea or Zwillinger). -

Which service pack of Windows XP are you running with? If you are not running XP 64-bit, then you will need service pack 3.
-
It may be a problem with your game data. You could try the "Verify All Files" (or "Repair" in the Launcher) to see if it clears up the anomalies.

Your kind words of support are always so appreciated.

Holy User Agreements, Batman! Someone actually read the User Agreement. Which is basically the same User Agreement that they've been accepting/agreeing to for over a year in the old updater!
Maybe we should move the User Agreement around more often to get people to pay attention to what they are actually accepting and agreeing to... -
If you're using NCsoft Launcher to get into City Of Heroes Beta, you do not need the -beta flag. You are trying to launch the "CITY OF HEROES BETA" game entry in the Launcher?
-
If you are getting the error that NClauncher.exe is locked and cannot be patched, exit the Launcher and bring up the Task Manager and in the "Processes" tab, look for NClauncher.exe, right click it and select "End Process" and select "Yes" on the warning screen.
Then, restart NClauncher.exe and it should patch properly. -
Quote:"all customers who use the NCsoft launcher will unlock the new Wisp Aura for free"I got the Wisps option when I tried to make a new char from the Launcher. I got the New costume bit unlocked on a char which I hadn't loaded with the new launcher but started the game the 'normal/old' way.
Don't tell me they've coded something .... flakey?!
Surely not!
Working As Intended. -
It sounds like your NCsoft Launcher did not update properly. Try exiting NCsoft Launcher and restarting it.

You can right click on each one (or click on the down arrow) and get to the Properties page and compare the "Install Location". If they are installed to the same location, then yes, uninstalling the US version will 'wipe out needed files' for your EU installation. If they are installed to different locations (most likely), then it would be safe to uninstall your US version.
