trouble with NCsoft launcher, littel different

I haven't seen anyone post this kind of issue with the launcher, but it's dang frustrating.

I uninstalled everything, game client included. Re-installed game client, re-installed launcher. Still having the same issue since I first dl'd the launcher.

Click on launcher, get

"Unable to contact Launcher Update Server


There is either a problem with your internet connection, or the update server is currently down. You may retry or skip the update."

Retrying get the same response.

So I skip it. Launcher window comes up, City of Heroes is green-lit. Select it, click on the play button, get the following:


City of Heroes encountered an error last time it tried to perform an operation

Could find authentication data online or locally
The patching server might be down.
We are sorry for the inconvenience, please try again later!


Cannot get it to work under any of the above mentioned methods, the repair option says City of Hereos currently unable to repair itself. You may be able to repair later by clicking on the game and selecting repair.

Repair has repeatedly given me the same error.

Checked my LAN options, made sure it was set to auto-detect. Checked firewall settings, NC is allowed access. Not sure what to do next.



Also uninstalled all microsoft.net stuff and reinstalled framework for .net 3 and the msmxl 6 parser thing as per the dev's suggestions.

still getting the above mentioned errors.

The only thing I can think of is that i reinstalled the game from my AE retail disk. Anyone think reinstalling from the direct download will make a difference?

Also i'm in AZ, could my IP address be part of the issue?

Try temporarily disabling your firewall. See if that makes any difference.

Tried it. That doesn't work either. I reinstalled the updater yet again, it still cannot connect to the update server when i launch it. So I skip it again. Now when I click PLAY,
i get the following:

City of Heroes encountered an error last time it tried to perform an operation. Repairing may help to solve this issue.
Value was either too large or too small for an Int32.

I get the same message when I try to reapir it.

First, can I assume you tried the instructions in the post Tex linked to above?

I've done some searching, and the error has many potential solutions.

What version of Windows are you running?

Where do you have City Of installed? (The path to the folder.)

Finally, are you objectionable to completely uninstalling City Of, and everything NCSoft related? (Don't just go and do it. I'll need the other answers to advise you if you should do it, and what to do. I'm just trying to get an idea of what I have to work with.)

EDIT:: And while I was working this all out, I missed you starting another thread. :-( :-P Oh well, I'll try to keep up with wherever you want to keep working on this. :-)

Yep, replaced the games.xml file.

I'm using windows XP home

City of is on my C drive

I have no problem reinstalling any of it if it may help
