Bottom line...stop making hitting level x or y the primary focus of your COX life and just enjoy the game. New characters can be fun for the fact that they ARE incomplete and you have to work a bit more to get them to perform.
[/ QUOTE ]
Heaven forbid someone has a different definition of FUN than you do.
[/ QUOTE ]
You confused me for a moment with your copy/paste quote quick reply. I thought "but I don't remember saying that..." -
[ QUOTE ]
As others have noted, I never cease to be amazed at the amount of "if you don't like [x], well just leave the game!" we see around here. OMG let's don't ever fix anything, if people don't like it LEAVE and can i have your stuff!!!!
*disgust*
I don't view that as healthy for the game, but obviously mileage varies.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's actually less hateful here than in some other games I've been in, so I take it in stride. -
[ QUOTE ]
ok....i'm startin to have a feeling that once reach a certain level, you have no choice but to do missions with others....is this true? if so, what level is pretty much the end of the line for doing missions solo?
[/ QUOTE ]
Depends on the AT and build, for me. I've had a number of Defenders who were likely to be destroyed in Heroic missions. After level 40, my FF/Rad Defender would run into problems with any mission involving enemies that used Sleep effects (i.e. all the Rikti missions he was getting). And even without that, a +1 level Lt. spawn could give him trouble. Romans generally give him trouble, too, +1 or not. They stabbeth me through a PFF with ease and killeth me with a Critical or three.
And I find soloing Controllers, Tankers, and Defenders from level 5 to 22 to be practically impossible due to tedium. And as my highest level Controller closes in on 40, I find him to be so squishy that a couple of unlucky shots (either him missing or them hitting) can ruin his day. -

Scotts dont wear skits there kilts. there i a differance. though they seam the same they are not
[/ QUOTE ]
There is no difference. Look up kilt in the dictionary. What's it say? 'A type of skirt.' A secure Scotsman can accept that he's wearing a type of skirt without feeling like his masculinity is threatened by the fact. An insecure or drunk Scotsman may come to blows over the matter, but like as not he was gonna find some reason to hit ya anyway.
Switching gender in the game isn't necessarily crossdressing. It could be used for power armor or shapeshifting or a series of heroes with the same name/powerset. -
I have a speedster robot called Lubricus who is a DM/SR scrapper. His speed comes from a special lubricant that is really made up of nano-wraiths. Or something like that.
I've another speedster I recently created who is a Shield/Mace tanker called Speed Knight. I haven't nailed down much beyond him being from the future.
Many of my speedster concepts die early, as I often find a speedster without superspeed to be nigh unbearable to play. -

It takes virtually no time anymore to get to level 5, go to KR, do the radio/bank missions. By then you are close to level 10. A mission or two and you are off to Steel where you do the Midnight Squad missions and the radio/bank missions there. Do the University tutorial as well and you are very close to level 15. A mission or two after that you go to Faultline and do those arcs. Again you may need to pad slightly to get to 20 but then you have Striga and the Talos bank missions. Before you know it you are level 22+, ready for SOs and at level 25 you can get to Ouroboros to back fill your badge missions. And this is soloing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Around level 5 is where soloing usually begins to be a chore for my Defenders, Controllers, and Tankers. Maybe a level earlier for the Controllers, it's been awhile.
"Oh look, a heroic spawn... *chip chip chip*... ::several minutes of hyperbole later:: finallly... beat... ::falls over from blue exhaustion:: The TOs, they do nothing!"
But I had the rare-these-days luck to get on a non-AE team with my Tanker who was supposed to be a speedster. And it was made up almost entirely of Controllers and Defenders with Rad and thus I had AM out the wazoo and the game was fun! All it took was triple to quintuple stacked AM. And I finally got the superspeed that my speedster should've had from the get-go. -

Gotta disagree a little here...Endmods in the form + Frankenslotting will mean you can go indefinitely in Dwarf form and never see your end bar move. At least, that's been my experience.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, two good enhancements and it's like having unslotted Stamina. Three and it's Stamina with a DO. Nothing to sneeze at, I'd say. -
[ QUOTE ]
I've used the self-destruct power as a cool way to end sewer runs, or when I was about to die anyway. So far, I think the funniest use of it was when I had my Brooklyn Bridge toon out. Yes, I made a character based off of the Brooklyn Bridge. One day I popped self-destruct and as the countdown progressed, he screamed "I..am...LEGEND!!" right before he blew his stack.
If anyone's seen that movie, I'm sure they remember what happened to Brooklyn Bridge on-screen.
[/ QUOTE ]
I once used it in the middle of a packed AE and as it counted down I screamed "There's no reason to live! Where's my kayak?!"
But I don't think anyone got he reference. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, stop and think about it for a second.
When you first started playing, on your first few characters, wasn't the low level game pretty awesome back then?
I bet it was. I mean, if it wasn't, why would you have kept playing to get to this point?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, it wasn't awesome. Creating characters was awesome. The idea of creating and playing superheroes was awesome. What kept me playing was all that and that it would potentially stop sucking when some powers rolled in.
Of course, it really just sucked *less*, but enough so that the ability to create and play superheroes overshadowed the suckage.
But even back then, I didn't feel like I was doing enough damage with many characters. I felt that I missed far too often. And the blue bar was depleting way too fast. Slotting End reducers does not fix this. Slotting TO and DO Accuracy barely helps. And enhancements that stop working every couple of levels are a problem unto themselves.
But despite the problems, this is still currently the only place I can create and play superheroes. That can't change soon enough, but in the meantime speedsters without superspeed who can blow a whole blue bar on a typical single player Heroic spawn and end up at half health or worse while doing so make low level play annoying.
[ QUOTE ]
I mean, wasn't the first time you saw Paladin stomping past you in Kings Row pretty cool?
Or the first time you accidentally Super Jumped on Lusca's head? (that was pretty funny)
[/ QUOTE ]
If they were worth fighting and it was easy to get a team together to do so, I'd still hunt GMs like I used to. But any more they're too much of a pain for too little reward and no one hardly wants to gather for such battles.
Shock and awe has limited value. A cool looking GM is a useless novelty if it's not fun and rewarding to fight. -

Meh, I'm a 36 month veteran

It woudln't be mandatory, just an option for folks like me who wants to use it.
I think it'd be nice to let the five year vets skip a few early levels...
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm already miffed you guys get to pick a travel power at level 6! >
JK, I hear what you are saying. I'm not sure if skipping some lower levels would be a problem, but skipping 20 is too much. I wouldn't bat an eyelash at 1-10 though.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think its stupid to have travel power be a vet reward.
They should have just said. Welp. Waiting til 14 for travel sucks. Here... Now everyone can have travel at lvl 1.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's the way it should be. I'm sick of making "speedsters" without speed. -
[ QUOTE ]
no matter what game you play, you'll never escape it.
[/ QUOTE ]
But I've played games where the first 20 levels weren't soul-sucking tedium. Of course, in those games the game tended to get tedious after those levels. Surely someone, somewhere will get it right and make a game that's generally fun from level 1 to whatever the maximum level is. Or at least not an exercise in soul-sucking tedium along the way. -
I like the light-based powers of the PB better for visuals. But I like the sucking-souls-out-of-dead-enemies aspect of WS powers.

For real...How about any love for the Scrappers ancillary pools.

They tried to. Then the scrapper yelled something about "expees" and chased the people trying to install the new power pools around trying to hit, puncture, and otherwise injure them.
[/ QUOTE ]
What are they, lolscraps? I can haz expeez?! -
Yeah, I've never really cared for life before level 25 or so in this game. It's especially bad whenever I make a Speedster character and then have to slog through several levels without superspeed. And I've often lamented that the first 20 levels of this game feel like a gratuitously lengthy and tedious tutorial.

Intentionally and repeatedly annoying people with power effects is

...no different than annoying them by wearing a pink cape in their presence unless the power directly affects their character. -

Self-destruct should have totally come with this pack.
Yes, I hit it by accident last night.
[/ QUOTE ]
While I have always thought self-destruct was thematically cool, I kind of wish it would get taken away from confirmed griefers as punishment. I'm willing to bet self-destruct has been activated in Atlas Plaza more than any other location...and I think every one of of them was activated directly between me and whomever I might be taking to at any given time.
I also kind of hate self-destruct because it likely means we will never get turbans in the game because someone, somewhere will get up to some jackassery with the combination. This is why I hate rotten apples analogies and providing service with the least common denominator in front of mind. It seems like MMOs always jump on the potential abuse angles first.
Don't get me wrong...I'm glad the power came with the booster back. I just have a love/hate relationship with it.

Only to get generic'd in five minutes...
[/ QUOTE ]
Clearly, if you do something like that, you have to be creative about it. Like my immortal Mesopotamian who is a member of PPD named "Captain Hamurabi" whose bio mentions that he does 'Officer Friendly' type PR under the name Captain Hammer.
If I could stand playing in the Rogue Isles, his Robot MM nemesis Professor Plagiarist might still be around. -
[ QUOTE ]
Now personally I never really liked the idea of having costume pieces as vet rewards, but thats what the devs chose and changing it now wouldn't be fair to the people that patiently earned them. I can't claim to have waited for my wings because when Vet Rewards started I already had 24 months on my account.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think it's fair to have made a number of things that should be standard into vet rewards. I had to wait quite awhile for something as simple as boxing gloves. If they made those available to everyone tomorrow, I wouldn't think it was unfair I'd think "well, that's the way it should've been to begin with." -
I don't generally participate in these frequent AP affairs, but I do watch now and then and have seen some questionable winners, but...
I have to do a doubletake when the winner is in a rather non-descript all black costume with a black cape and the "judge" says it's the most original costume they've seen in their 30 months of play. 30 months of playing what? Not this game apparently. Next week will he give first prize to Yet Another Catgirl for her bold never-before-seen combination of cat ears and a skirt? -
[ QUOTE ]
I don't find the pre-20 levels boring. I also don't seem to run out of Endurance as fast as you either.
[/ QUOTE ]
More likely that you do, you just find it acceptable. Meanwhile, I find that my Willpower and Regen characters who have Quick Recovery and Stamina both 3-slotted with an End Reducer in all attacks and toggle use far too much Endurance even if they never dip below half without sappers involved. I find the very mechanic unpalatable. -
[ QUOTE ]
Faster games where timing and accuracy are important use UDP.
[/ QUOTE ]
Timing and accuracy seemed to be more important in Age of Conan (which was in the OP's list of games that are TCP only) than this game. -
I finally decided patience wasn't a virtue and killed the process. Had to do it twice to get it to take. Still, the whole thing seems abnormal to me.
-
Almost a half hour now. The bar almost doubled in size which makes it about 1/6 full I'd guess. Will the character be lost in limbo if I kill the process?
-
...and still loading. The bar is moving every now and then.
I imagine the team I was on has probably kicked me by now, but how long will it take to find out? I'm morbidly curious. Normally I load fast. This has been an odd morning on Virtue.
