Good for you. That doesn't change my aforementioned experience with my Blaster in the mission.

Well, if part of the game requires things you flatly refuse to do for any reason, I guess you aren't going to get to enjoy that part of the game, are you?

Yes, there are things in the game that you are going to need help for, it is the nature of any MMO. CoH is better than most in that you can solo a large percentage of the content, but you still occasionally need help. If you refuse to ever ask for help for any reason, the problem lies with you, not the content.
If the missions one can acquire solo are relatively consistent in difficulty, when there is one that is inconsistent the problem lies with the content.

You won't set foot in a PvP zone, you won't put together a team, and you think using a temp power means the encounter is "too hard". If you think THIS is too hard, you're going to have a very rude awakening in the near future I think, because future Incarnate stuff is only going to get harder. The game should NOT be made easier to appease those players who think asking for help is a bad thing.
As I understand it, the other Incarnate stuff thus far is made up of TFs which necessitate teams. The solo difficulty shouldn't be ramped up to appease the elitists and masochists.
  2. My experience was that in any situation where my character might need extra help such as what a pet might provide, "Fluffy" would die rather quickly or else stand around and not do much of anything in which case my character got taken out. Thus I found it ugly and not worth the annoyance.

If I have to resort to extreme measures in order to complete the encounter, I think it's more than reasonable to say the encounter is too hard. Indeed, I would say it's the very definition of "too hard." And for a solo encounter, anything that goes beyond my normal powers and inspirations is an extreme measure.

The last time I had this sort of problem was back when the Patron arcs made you fight AVs and I had to ask for help. That has been the only time in all the time I've played where I started a team. I believe I was grumbling in threads about it for quite some time before I got worked up to the point of doing that. And then, of course, they changed the way it worked.

"Pretty empty" isn't empty enough. I made that mistake before, and I won't repeat it. I absolutely will not engage or be engaged in PvP.
  4. Don't let the Trapdoor hit you on the way out.

An HVAS costs 250 Vanguard merits. Which is a lot, true, but what you do is find out when your server hosts Rikti ship raids, and get on one of those. Its not unheard of to come out of one of those with 800 or so Vanguard merits.

Saturday night is a popular time for those.
I've been on a few raids. The most I've gotten out of one was 30 merits. I used to do the Vanguard intro on characters, but I stopped - I suppose after awhile I just didn't see the point.

  6. The plot is simple: CLU needs x to take over the world. Why does he need x? Because x allows him to take things into the real world. It's as easy to follow and accept as a magical laser beam that transports a human being into a digital civilisation.

Just saw the movie in IMAX 3D. Seeing it in 3D was pointless, I'd say, as it was the least immersive 3D movie I've seen.

The hair that annoyed me in the trailers, was even worse in the actual movie. Combined with the absence of surreality in the setting that was present in the original, the computer realm almost didn't seem like a computer realm so much as a high tech/future world.

I'm not sure I liked the chakrams that they were calling "discs", either.

Flynn's son exhibited no User abilities, that I noticed, other than bleeding.

    I miss the Grid Spiders.

The club scene was the worst. It reminded me of something from the Matrix sequel.

And while the music throughout was decent, I was disappointed that there was no recognizable mix of the original theme for the credits, at least.

All that said, I enjoyed the story and found the movie to be decent overall, though I can't recommend seeing it in 3D.

Vanguard item? Probably costs some insane amount of Vanguard merits which would take me weeks to accrue and then it would turn out to be horribly limited in time or number of uses for the insane cost. I'm not sure I've even done the intro Vanguard arcs with that character. That makes it as equally attainable as a self-made team for me.

But at least you didn't suggest wholly unattainable PvP items.

  9. The only Dark graphic that really bugs me is the pet. It always looked like it belonged in the Storm set to me - just give it lightning attacks and it's a walking storm cloud. My Dark/Dark corruptor ditched the power after awhile, mainly because of aesthetics, but also because the pet proved to be useless to Him.

Some people insist that soloing AVs isn't hard, too.

At -1 level (prior to the patch - I have yet to reattempt the mission due to disillusionment), Trapdoor lasted against my Electric blaster for the duration of two-three consecutive Defense inspirations (so, 2-3 minutes if I recall the duration of enhancements correctly) with me constantly blasting him between two/three-shotting his bifurcations and his health never even went down as far as 75%. After my purple inspirations ran out, he took me out in 2-3 shots. Perhaps that was anomalous behaviour, but it certainly seems extraordinarily difficult to me.

Even were I able to complete the mission (my Electric blaster barely did any damage to Lvl 49 Trapdoor even when his bifurcations weren't around, so I couldn't even get him down to 75% before my Insps ran out and he killed me), I wouldn't have trouble believing other people had genuine issues with it. I've seen people do too many improbable things things in this game to believe any given success can necessarily be achieved without undue difficulty, even if I accomplished it myself.

The recent Alice and Wonderland movie did a similar thing with 3D. The real world was kind of flat, but as Alice ran away from it things started to go more 3D until she fell down the rabbit hole and it went full 3D.

  15. If my accuracy got nerfed, I missed it...

But then, if my accuracy was nerfed I could expect to miss a lot of things, so how would I know?

No, really, I did. A few weeks ago, I told some of the people closer to me that I was quitting, sent my feedback quietly to a red name, and even reevaluated my budget now that this $15 a month as freed up. One of the last things said red name told me was "I hope that you find something in a future Issue that can bring you back." I politely told them something akin to "Ya right" and resumed closing up shop.

Then I read the Issue 19 notes in detail on I19's launch day.
I actually did quit a few weeks ago (well, about a month now). I hadn't been playing this game for quite some time (again), and I was intensely beta-testing another superhero game, so it seemed like a good time/reason to set CoH aside. However, deflated excitement with said other game led me to peek in over here wherein I saw the info on I19 as well as the Origin pack. And so I returned (much to the irritation of many, I'm sure). This game is an addiction, and we all need HELP. ;P
  17. I'm hoping to see it this weekend, but I've been annoyed with the characters having hair in the trailers, and with Flynn's son having his normal clothes when he gets digitized.
  18. I always admired the Picard Maneuver: Drop down, increase speed, reverse direction!

I didn't blame its existence on this show, I simply don't like it. Didn't care for it in the game, either, though the game otherwise was worth a playthrough.

The designs largely look bad to me (Bulkhead and Cliffjumper being the only two exceptions I can cite offhand). It has nothing to do with expecting it to look exactly like the original: after all, I didn't mind the Beast Wars robot designs overall. And I liked Transformers Animated.

Who, me? I would absolutely like to be happy with it. But I have plenty of experience with this game and thus I didn't expect to be happy with it. Currently I only have one solid way that I am frustrated with it. If I ever get past that one, singular thing, I certainly expect to find new things to be annoyed with. But at least inherent Fitness is nice.

And unfortunately I have a consistent hankering for a superhero game, and even more unfortunately this game is the best offering overall in the genre (he says, having just rejoined after taking a month or so off to Beta DCUO).
  22. I mostly dislike the character designs. I dislike the kids. I'm not fond of the Dark Energon.

That, and knocking him back into the lava (if you can manage it).

Or, you could try to last him out. That's what my Ice/Axe tanker did. Took me FOREVER, and I had to let him wail on me while I went around killing off his copies, but for whatever reason he eventually stopped regenerating through bifurcates altogether (I'm going with: energy absorption ran him out of endurance) and I could take him down.

FWIW, my tanker is mostly SO'd (two five-slotted sets of crushing impact and two five-slotted sets of red fortune are the only bonuses he has going) and ran the mission at +1x8, so - given the right tactics and some luck - I have no doubt that you'll be able to take him down at some point.
Yes, I was killing his ridiculous unending-and-far-too-rapidly-deployed supply of duplicates. I honestly did not see any lava, but I doubt I could keep him in it with any consistency between bouncing around atacking his bifurcations. I was unable to get his health bar below 75% before my inspirations ran out and he utterly destroyed me.

-1 level. I don't recall if I have it set at x1, x2, or x3. The encounters along the way seemed a bit larger than x1, but I tend to run on the easiest setting I can get away with. Since that only affects encounter size, though, it shouldn't matter either way. If I could lower the level farther, I would.
