The "fun" part is rather subjective, but you might look at /Elec for a Blapper. Lightning Field helps your damage, Charged Brawl and Havoc Punch do the same damage (in the same activation) as Energy Punch and Bonesmasher, Thunder Strike is decent AoE damage and mitigation (and it's a disgusting place to put a Force Feedback proc), Shocking Grasp is better damage than Total Focus if your target survives the full DoT (and it's good mitigation and it activates fast), and you can slot Charged Brawl and Havoc Punch with Chance to Heal.
Also, while it may make you unpopular if you're not careful on teams, Lightning Clap can be good mitigation.
Finally, Elec goes better with Ice (if you go that route) because Shocking Grasp + Freeze Ray will reliably hold a boss in two seconds flat. (It would take you five seconds to Screech + TF on your Sonic/Energy.) -
Achilles' Heel doesn't stack with itself, even from other casters. It's nice to have one or two, but no more. Where Rad really delivers on procs is Lady Grey and Shield Breaker. Since 4 Devastation is acceptable for enhancing a blast and getting some decent set bonuses, this lets you have two damage procs in each single target blast and each AoE that you don't put the -Res proc in. Pure energy damage, with some -Def, with tons of damage procs, with Cosmic Burst--that's Rad. (You can even put a Force Feedback proc in Electron Haze!)

I guess my subconscious is more excited about Going Rogue than the rest of me is. I had a dream last night where TV won the forum war and we got a new pre-GR story arc.
The arc looked like it was about a new boyfriend-girlfriend pair of Resistance heroes in Praetoria. They're a cute couple. The male only recently obtained super powers (he found some magic boots), and the arc is about him joining the Resistance. During the arc, you meet the second in command of the Resistance, who is an Ice/Katana Blaster. You're supposed to be helping those three characters with an outdoor objective in the final mission, but when you arrive you find the Ice/Kat mourning the couple, who got "clothes-lined by a broadsword" while Superspeeding to the objective (). The arc turns out to be about the traumatic events that lead the Ice/Kat to actively associate the Resistance with Paragon City.
So, if this dream turns out to be prophetic (), we know the following:
1) TV beats Aeon and we get a fun story arc from it.
2) I finally get Katana (and maybe Martial Arts) as Blaster secondaries!
3) Stealthing missions against loyalist shock troops may be tricky.
4) Bloody headless glowie models will be introduced to the game(?) -
This. I would modify the original combo to be Fire/Shields with Kin/Sonic. Even a single Howl per spawn should help with your overall kill rate. (This assumes, of course, that Fire is indeed better AoE than Elec. I'm not personally certain on that point.)

That's like comparing Apples to... well, to nothing. Most Villain content has the problem of not existing in the first place. The Manticore TF can be run comfortably in under an hour, and the Katie TF is half that and gets you a hero-only costume item; I am unimpressed by the emphasis on these being longer than their Villain counterparts (those being "nothing"). Similarly, while Positron's TF is a bit grindy, CoV's approach to the "30 merits per hour and a badge at level 10" category is not very impressive, either.
Also,
Quote:Plant dom. Seeds would be ridiculous at that level. -
Quote:My roommate and I are laughing hard at this.Soul Storm + Ignite is also awesome. The Soul Storm makes them spin nicely so they cook evenly all the way through.
Quote:Also, Caltrops with the Ragnarok knockdown proc. It has high amusement value. -

I just had a thought: Maybe it's a conspiracy theory, and the Freedom Phalanx HQ is actually a front for an Arachnos base? -
Quote:Ooh, I do that too. I haven't played my Katana Scrapper since i9, so I forgot.I don't know if this counts, but for me it's Golden Dragonfly. And it not just that I use it, it's how. Running up to a mob, I jump about a half second before hitting the power. It begins to animate just as I sail over their heads at the height of my jump, then I turn around and come crashing down to earth from about 20ft off the ground. I've been going that since Issue 2 and it never gets old.
The best is when you can approach two that are lined up and land behind the second one, so you get both in your cone. And if you Build Up first, and if you crit...
In this game, I can't honestly think of anything I've done that compares to "superspeed towards a spawn while firing BU and queuing GD, leap over two +1 Lt's, spin in the air, bring sword crashing down, cut them both in half with a double critical." Even if a target lives (maybe there was a boss or perhaps you got one or no crits), the knockdown makes it feel epic. You can tell they felt it.
As one guide phrased it, it's nearly a religious experience. (The guide was about Broadsword, but it looks cooler with Katana, even if it's slightly lower damage.) -
Force Bolt!!! Oh, how I love my Force Bolt. <3
Carrion Creepers are fun too, but it's kinda hard to say you're overdosing on them. They're extremely potent. -
Is there a story behind why Gregor Richardson has Ghost Widow's remains sitting on a shelf in his office, or are they just kinda there?
-
Quote:Indeed. I discovered this by running straight up the side of a war wall to escape some enemies once.Running Super Speed and Combat Jumping together can allow you to slide up some surfaces if you jump into them at an angle.
I wonder if it might be possible to (1) give SS a slight jump and movement friction buff and (2) very slightly slant most of the surfaces in the game, and thus achieve a sort of wall-running. Of course, slightly slanting most surfaces in every zone could possibly take a very long time.
Bellen: You could say you're paying $10 for the Jian, instead. ~_^ -

Get only Munitions Mastery, put two rockets on every spawn?
Get only Blasters with Maneuvers? -
A friend of mine deleted his only level 50 Hero, and he can still make Kheldians. I'm posting this because I know that has come up as a question before.
Of course, if we get a repeat of the bug where you can't make a Kheldian unless you log on an existing 50 first, we expect him to lose his option. Until then, he seems to be able. -
I am interested in the notion that Cole may have lost his mental duel with Prae-Hami.
After doing the high-level arcs, I'm still confident that Tyrant is a villain. Mind control, forced insanity, dimension-scale genocide, and soul binding do not a hero make! -
Quote:Yeah, you got me to wonder about that. I'll most likely invest in an alternate build to test that at some point. With the Proc, CC is, in my experience, extremely powerful, and an unskippable power, but I obviously have a very different play-style than you.
Quote:On paper, but not in my experience
Quote:At perma-hasten, I have a fairly smooth chain of -res attacks, although squeezing Scream or Shout in there wouldn't hurt. I liked that about your suggested tweak.
However, you also brought the Ranged Def down from 45.1% to 43.7%, which I'm less happy about, and Scream is underslotted as an attack... It's an interesting variant though.
I'm sure you could work out an attack chain that sustains the full -100% Res that a Defender can pump out with Sonic (Howl and the 4 single target attacks), but I find it simpler to dump Shout. (In my first build here, I forgot that I planned to Respec out of it.)
I forgot to compensate for Mids' giving me the unsuppressed value on Stealth when I was tweaking your build, which is why I didn't notice the loss of Ranged Defense. Oops. (You'd still be at the cap against anything being hit by your RI, at least.) -
Shockwave--like most guaranteed knockback powers--is actually quite powerful as both mitigation and mob positioning. I like it with Rad because I can use it to keep all of my targets bunched up next to the anchor, unable to attack, and taking damage. It also benefits from the Rule of Cool. That said, it's situational enough to be skippable, especially if you can drop a couple hundred million inf on an extra Lotg+R and a BotZ-Kb to replace its set bonuses.
I dropped a couple of powers and came up with another build. It has a bit of defense and can ghost, but it lacks Mutate, Wail, and Shockwave. A cheap purple in Howl helps with the loss of Shockwave.

Quote:EMP without CC can hold almost any mob. At any rate, CC is an acquired taste; it can be skipped. It's nice in your build because it stacks with Dominate, but if I go Dark it's less appealing. (I am considering Oppressive Gloom, though.) Also, Dreadful Wail is a stun, which satisfies some of the need for control, and the -Res in it helps to mitigate the brief loss of coverage in EF.I'd skip Dreadful Wail, which will bring all of your toggles down, and take that EMP. I'm amazed you've skipped Choking Cloud. CC+EMP can hold almost any mob.
Quote:You can ghost with Invisibility or Super Speed + a Stealth Proc, the latter actually being a little better in practice since you're not trapped into "only affecting self". Stealth alone, or the Stealth Proc alone, or even using both, are not very effective in my experience.
Quote:Your build lacks ... real defense or any form of mitigation.
Quote:Unless you're planning on using Fallout, I wouldn't bother with Recall Friend. Especially since you'll be the slowest person in the group.
Quote:You have Perma-AM, Stamina, Dark Consumption AND Vigilance... That's total over-kill. Between Perma-AM and Vigilance, you shouldn't need to worry about Endurance on a team-build.
Quote:I have major problems with your slotting. You've four-slotted Hasten (3-slot it and leave it alone). AM is poorly-slotted with over-the-top Endurance and Recharge and no look to the speed bonus (which is ironic given your lack of travel power).
Quote:EF could really use the third End Red slot.
Quote:You have a mix of expensive and cheap sets, so I don't know what your overall budget is.
Quote:I've put my Rad-Sonic team build below... This build has skipped a couple of attacks, but for the greater benefit, and I'm always busy in combat.
I do like some concepts of your build, though. I tweaked it, in fact; my changes cost you 2.5% AoE defense and the proc in EMP, but give you 2% damage, recovery that offsets the slot moved out of EF, and the ability to apply 20% -Res above what you already could. It also uses one fewer LotG+R.

I considered that, but this build can use it every fight, and I will. In a tight build, I tend to get rid of things that are "situational"--obviously a relative term--which is why I'm considering dropping EMP. It's awesome, but if I'm not using it all the time, I might not want it at all.
Of course, similar could be said of Mutate. Most deaths I see are in situations where EMP wouldn't help, though, so Mutate fills holes that EMP doesn't. Also, situations calling for EMP could often use Dreadful Wail instead, especially since it's on the same recharge timer as Dark Consumption. -
Wow, you guys are awesome!
I had no idea it was possible to also hide toggles. My buffbot characters will love that! -
I'm toying with a Rad/Sonic build (mostly for teams). I realize I should probably skip Shockwave, Mutation, or both, but I'm somewhat fond of them. At any rate, full invisibility is something I like to have, and I'm trying to work in Stealth.
Does anyone have any specific thoughts on the pros and cons of skipping EMP in favor of Stealth? Part of my mind is saying "it's not up all the time anyway, things will never be abnormally hard because you lack it," but the other part is saying "EMP? You want to skip EMP? How?"
I'm only at 32 right now, so I don't have much experience with EMP. I realize it basically wraps up a spawn and sticks a bow on it, but I just don't know how necessary people consider that in high level play these days. "Ghosting," especially for TF's, is definitely useful. (Incidentally, does anyone other than BABs actually use the term "ghosting" for completing a mission by stealth?)
I suppose the most powergamey thing to do would be to take Stealth and Screech instead of Mutate and Shockwave.

Is there a slash command to toggle the display of team and/or personal Auto-power icons on and off? I'd like to be able to quickly check whether I need a new Empowerment or my allies need a new Fortune, but I certainly don't want to leave Auto-power icons on at all times.

The topic is the question. Basically, I'm trying to decide how to slot Dark Extraction, but none of the guides are newer than I9 and I want to know if I should be aiming for firing Dark Extraction as often as possible.
