He he sorry it was late and its a good long while since i looked into different swords so that was all from memory but i think my basic point still stands that there's nothing stopping you wielding any traditionally 2 handed weapon as a single handed weapon provided you have the strength and skill to do so.

Thinking about ranged sets it could work perhaps giving a "device" and a power animation to each set or it could allow you to more specialise in things like range, AOE or single target etc with each having its on disadvantages for example long ranged attacks would have good damage and exigent range but long recharges and rooting times

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thats the sort of thing I was suggesting. Say a Fire/ blaster, for example. You might not even need 3 'sets', just more options, much like Kheldians. So their were option for mass AoE, large single damage or longer ranges. But you wouldnt be able to pick them all. And for /devices (seeing as its one I actually know about) you could have devices that gave team buffs, self buffs or enemy debuffs, and you could mix and match, but never be great at all of them, just generalised or specialised. To varying degrees, but the matter is the choice.
  2. Thing I find is that, although the WS has more crowd control and such, the Dwarf form is, compared to the PB Dward, somewhat lacking, or at least it seems that way. Mire, on a form that is *not* oriented towards doing damage, seems like a horrible mistake. The recharge doesnt make it a viable AoE attack, like the PB Stomp, and the need for accuracy in the heal is a bit of a killer...
My two human/triform built Khelds are languishing at lvl 20 and 21. The Human form PB I have at lvl 6 seems to be a lot more fun, even solo. Not really sure how well they'll all last.

It's really quite astonishing isn't it? Shame about the narf to forms switching in combat, but I can live with that for the sheer "What the f...!?" we now have!

[/ QUOTE ]I didn't notice any change to toggling forms during play but I'm still using rather simple strategies.
It was funny (and somewhat embarrasing) when the Tank I was teamed with would get to a mob only to have them blasted to bits around him before he could get more than a couple of hits in.
I'm left asking, "Did I do that? "
Then I get, "I'll just stand in the corner while you clear the mission. " from the tank.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Der you shooters and yur mass damage! /e shakefist
Still, if the mobs die that fast, it makes a tankers life easier
  4. Noted. Agreed that it will never happen in CoX1 =P

On one hand I'd sort of love something like this - as long as the actual weapons don't have to do with what the character's fighting style - I want to be able to wield a slender sword two-handed style or fence with a huge one if I want to.

On the other hand, lately I've been getting a bit bored of minmaxing and become a huge fan of stuff like diminishing returns that levels the playing field - Something like this would add yet another layer of minmaxing to the mix and with it the typical "omg, u haev rapeir, 2h r teh 1337 fotm, n00b." discussions.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The actual styles would be represented, for weapons, in the powers. Actual sword/etc models would be down to choice as they currently are.

For the min/maxing, that is purely down to choice. Hence the suggestion of the 'middleground'. For example, in VEATS, Crabs are AoE ranged monsters, while Banes are close combat nasties. Standard soldier set is a mix of both worlds.

as for the shields point someone made, why is it a problem? Katana and swords are different sets, and should be kept that way. Even using a two-handed sword or a rapier, history has examples of both weapons being used with a shield of sorts. No reason, except engine/programming limitation, that it couldnt happen.

I just had a brainstorming idea for balancing ATs in CoX. The main problem seems to be disparity between Blue and Red. So, why not take the branching powerset system from VEATs and apply it to ATs. It would take a heckload of tweaking.

    For example:
Basic AT: Tough Guy (High HP - Moderate Damage)
Starts off with basic punch-voking taunt mechanic like brutes have. Power sets are as Brute/Tanker with a choice of offence or defence being primary (canot be changed after creation).
At L24 it gets a branching respec into Guardian/Enforcer or Crusader/Brute with modifiers set accordingly (G/E get Gauntlet, a buff to defensive powers and a decrease in damage. C/B get Fury (probably renamed blue side) and slight damage buff.

Something similar could be done for Scrapper/Stalker melee DPS and Defender/Corruptor ranged support. Blaster/Dominator seems like the nearest pairing to fit for these two ATs.
How Controllers and Masterminds would work in this way is my only dead end. Ideas?

    [/ QUOTE ]

-pokes and points to the 'Specialisation' thread started under Suggestion-

Maybe im not the only one to think that sounds like a viable idea? Even if it has not a hope in hell under current CoX.

As for the options of all-zone PVP, maybe limit starting zones like Atlas and Galaxy, due to their high security. And, thematically, the city Hall would wnat heroes cleaning out the villains that *do* make it in, like the Hellions, etc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There's a section in the Wiki designated for writing down character weaknesses. A lot of mine say "is a human."

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This. So very much this.

It does help that a few of my characters are robots, or have certain added parts. But people get sick of someone wandering up and spouting their life story. I've taken to writing up just facts about appearance and senses on most of my characters. Out of all my (numerous >.< ) characters I have...only one or two that can be mind-read, because it fits better for the character. Should someone come up and try and godmode them, they will most likely get a lot of insults/wierd looks (depending on the character)

In hindsight, I admit guilty as hell to one really bad telepathy session, which was probably a perfect exampleof how not to do things =P
  8. ...I cant actually understand that at all, sorry @_@
  9. Hmm...well, maybe I need to try a PVP build for my Invul/Energy tanker. Cos I took him to Sirens and he got hammered horribly =[
Ice tanks are pure nasty though, as are /SS ones. My MM got TWO SHOTTED by an SS tank with rage and KOblow...shear daftness.

Still, as for other melee toons, I have one answer.
Hide, BU, Assassins Claw, Focus killer

My -personal- view on the D thing is each person is in their own 'bubble' and if a violent or act that could cause bodily harm outside of the arena would simply go around/right through, that's how I view it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Something like that. I've seen various and some quite good takes on it, with swords and shots passing right through people. Other people simly counter the measures used on them, which is perfectly fair and reasonable to avoid getting 'killed' Imo.
  11. Its all been said, by people better at wording it in IC and OOC terms than me.

Only character I have who even aproaches 'godly' is Arkeela, an angel. Being outside of normal time and space on earth, shes, technically, about 18, and thinks she can deal with life by reading up on it out of a book. Boy is she learning otherwise...
Powerwise, yes shes unkillable. That doesnt mean it doesnt hurt like blazes. Being forced to disincarnate, then reincarnate at a Hospital somewhere is, for her, a really messed up process. Like getting born again, and growin, all in one. Which is why she avoids it like Hell. And, only just bein carnated, shes still figuring out how her light powers really work on a plain that doesnt revolve around pure energy and belief.

    Fun to play.
Gods and those who claim godhoo tend to be a bit meh. I often see 'And he/she is a demigod so cant die' in biogs. And it instantly makes me think 'Meh.'

    Rant.

Yeah. Bugged unto oblivion. Only real answer Im afraid.

Had that problem with the Honoree. Got to the end mission and hammered him over and over and over and OVER! But, lo and behold, the 'no-crash' Unstoppable of doom, that slimy little...!

Of course, then we did the Corporation run of it...man, I dont even think he had a chance to fire that thing, let alone say 'Oh help, I think Im dead!'

Stamina helps toons regain end at a faster rate than they do without it so in effect is only generally in play in between mobs tho end gain difference in between attacks is generally minimal it does help a little. Try putting an end red in attacks rather than a 3rd damage enhancement then see if you still think fitness should be inherent

    [/ QUOTE ]

I often do. And it doesnt help. Especially at lower levels, which is the biggest suffering point. And Stamina does help in fights, as the end bar is constantly refilling at a faster rate with stamina on. If they balance the endurace rates so that you still had to watch the bar, but not to the point where Stamina and the fitness pool was a *must* as it is now, would be ideal.
    And lookee, threadomancy
  14. Hmm. Yeah, fair point. That was more the point of the 1st path, to be able to mix and match. I guess this goes down a rather windy and tricky path though, so, although it would be nice to add more customisation to the power tress, as such, dont think it will be anytime soon.
    Ah well..suggested anyway.
  15. Good points from both Raven and Flare there. Fair doos. I guess seeing as its a game where every other hero/villain is Statesman/Recluses second aunties cousin and a demi-god too boot, powers dont seem quite so super all the time -eyeroll-
  16. I agree that a lack of 'Advanced' teleporters, especially Blueside, is a bummer. It would be nice to give a teleporter with a few more beacons on it, for those that a tight on room/cash etc.
  17. Couldnt come up with a better title.

A random thought, come to on musing about certain comments, or half-remembered comments. Such as lack of secial stuff, or moments. In a game of superheroes/villains, it sometimes all blends into one. The moments of 'Super' seem to be limited to certain big things.

Something along the lines of inspirations, but more AT specific. Y'know the bits in movies where the hero/villain will rise above all the odds and deck everyone in their path/ bring people back to life/ stand invincible against everything?

Was thinking along those lines. So, certain 'Inspiration'...say tokens. The time you 'spend' them would be when you used an inherent power that each AT could have. Or possibly a number of choices.

    For example;
A Blaster has a 'token'. The team he is in, or just him solo, is facing odds far outta the league. Say a mob of purples in a mission or TF.
The blaster spends the token to use an inherent 'super power'. In this case, it might be that he gains resistance or defense, and recovery, which means he can last longer in the fight, and sway the odds.
Another one could be that his damage output is upped, possibly adding criticals to his attacks.
Afterwards of course there would need to be a crash, like most of the Tier 9 big powers, probably in most cases for health and endurace.

There are other examples. A Scrapper could have guarenteed critical hits, or -res or -def added to his attacks. A Defender could gain a huge recharge bonus, allowing them to keep the team alive against the odds (or similar)

Inspired by the sort of moments that make you pause and think 'Uh-oh, here we go' in movies and such.
I can suspect there would be downsides to such a system. Still, any opinions?

To be fair, they are kinda wierd for trench coats. Not actual military style trenchcoats. having something like that would be cool.

And, speaking of the Tommy Gun, why is that badge so damned hard to get in CoV?

Look up 'Power Customisation' or 'Power Customization' if it's an American database or forum. You'll find loads of details on why it's been officially stated it won't happen.

However, it is also somewhere near the top of the list of things which have been officially stated as impossible, but that may happen. So, don't give up all hope, but also don't expect to see anything before I15 (earliest).

    [/ QUOTE ]

...so you're saying it's impossible, then saying it's possible?

Also, I feel this is too much hard work for the devs for little reward.

As far as power customisation goes, look to the upcoming Champions Online. If it's what you really desire, then you might want to try it when it comes into open beta. Or wait till it realases.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which might well make it more likely to be put into CoX, to keep up with the oposition. If it doesnt, oh well. If it does, Score for us =P
