'Uber Inspirations'

Couldnt come up with a better title.

A random thought, come to on musing about certain comments, or half-remembered comments. Such as lack of secial stuff, or moments. In a game of superheroes/villains, it sometimes all blends into one. The moments of 'Super' seem to be limited to certain big things.

Something along the lines of inspirations, but more AT specific. Y'know the bits in movies where the hero/villain will rise above all the odds and deck everyone in their path/ bring people back to life/ stand invincible against everything?

Was thinking along those lines. So, certain 'Inspiration'...say tokens. The time you 'spend' them would be when you used an inherent power that each AT could have. Or possibly a number of choices.

For example;
A Blaster has a 'token'. The team he is in, or just him solo, is facing odds far outta the league. Say a mob of purples in a mission or TF.
The blaster spends the token to use an inherent 'super power'. In this case, it might be that he gains resistance or defense, and recovery, which means he can last longer in the fight, and sway the odds.
Another one could be that his damage output is upped, possibly adding criticals to his attacks.
Afterwards of course there would need to be a crash, like most of the Tier 9 big powers, probably in most cases for health and endurace.

There are other examples. A Scrapper could have guarenteed critical hits, or -res or -def added to his attacks. A Defender could gain a huge recharge bonus, allowing them to keep the team alive against the odds (or similar)

Inspired by the sort of moments that make you pause and think 'Uh-oh, here we go' in movies and such.
I can suspect there would be downsides to such a system. Still, any opinions?

I don't see any real point in it. The game is easy enough, so why make it even easier with uber inspirations?

Sorry, I just don't like it. /unsigned

Actually, that's called your powers.

Let me take as an example /WP on a Scrapper. There you get a self-rez power which, frankly, many people skip because there's wakies and Empaths, and many other ways to get up off the floor. But with /WP, if gives you a ToHit buff, a damage buff, a recovery buff... So, there you have the once in a while bit where you rise from the dead and deck your opponents. And it's AT specific.

I see where you're going with this. Many PnP games have this kind of facility, and it mostly stemmed from the superhero/pulp fiction genre games. You have 'Hero Points' which you can spend on, say, changing a bad dice roll, or surviving something which should have killed you, or making really sure there's no chance this amazing trick shot misses.

The thing is, those work because PnP games are moderated by a human, not a computer.

Now, many of us have wanted a bigger range of Insps for a long time. A +Recovery Insp, an Attack Rate Increase Insp, they would be good. But Insps already cover most of the things you're asking for, and powers cover the rest.

The only thing that isn't covered is 'attacking something out of your league,' which is another word for suicide. If you try that in PnP, you get to roll a new character, no matter how many Hero Points you have (unless you get really good dice rolls: there's a story I could tell about a newbie party facing off against the second worst monster in Deadlands and surviving, which we counted as a win, even if it didn't stay dead).

Hmm in Deadlands the game doesn't have to be over and you don't survive One of the redeeming features of that game.

Well, with the possible exception of my character who might have been dead, or not (we never did get to the bottom of that), everyone went in alive, and came out in a relatively similar state.

I think a better 'uber' inspiration would be a gold one which gives you tier 3 inspiration resistance, defence, attack, tohit, tops up your health and endurance, and tags on break free. To make it, you'd have to combine eight specific tier 3 inspirations (include the tier 3 awaken one too) just to build one of them.

What else would probably need to be added is to combine six tier 2 inspirations of the same to make one tier 3. Tier 1 obviously can't be allowed since you can buy them from vendors or contacts.

Although I see where you are coming from I have to agree with Phantoms. A 'moment of inspiration' would only make the game easier. Bosses can be taken down by teams, normal inspirations, buffs, good power choices, etc. There are plenty of ways to make a 'heroic' stand.

I would, however, like to see larger inspirations being sold - however, you can get them from Siren's by PVP bounty hunting, and you can also get a LOT from the glowies in the Shadow Shard 'Kora Fruit' missions - so I suppose they too are accessible. It's not like the smaller ones don't drop regularly enough! Perhaps what was suggested previously - to be able to combine, say SIX greens into a 'tier 2' green, rather than only being able to combine 3.

Good points from both Raven and Flare there. Fair doos. I guess seeing as its a game where every other hero/villain is Statesman/Recluses second aunties cousin and a demi-god too boot, powers dont seem quite so super all the time -eyeroll-
