Quote:Hmn, sounds like the Underwater sections of Bioshock 2Actually they could easily allow travelling underwater "BUT" not place any NPC's in the areas that allow underwater swimming. When a player gets to where he's going he enters an airlock that takes him to an area where he can use his powers.
As for the rest of the underwater zone the devs could use it as an opportunity to design and implement some non combat mini games.
exploration badges
hidden/secret rooms
puzzles with a variety of solutions and an RNG so players don't always get the same one over and over. -
I agree with all those points, with the addition that stuff should NOT be bloody convoluted to get (Rularuu kit Redside, where it's only an option on certain arcs) or where it is entirely side locked (looking at YOU, Redcap daggers and Taskforce Epaulets!)
In-game unlocks are good. The Council weapons are spot on perfect, in my opinion; beat up goons, take their stuff. Brilliant.
Having to farm Fake Nem bosses, or grind Family Bosses? Not to mention the 50-locked Incarnate armour....

(Gods damn you all, stop making me agree with Golden Girl! >_<)
The main problem with Recluse is...well...he's badly written. He's made to look ineffectual...if he's ever used at all, in fact. He is the master of Webs, for heavens sake, he should be second only to Nemesis when it comes to puppeteering and spinning plots, on level and arguably superior to the Centre and the Council because, hey, you don't see THEM with their own Island nation.
Now, yes, people did feel (rightly so) that being nothing but an Arachnos lackey for the majority of Redsides history sucked. And that's fine. Not being a lackey is good.
But in the same way Villains team up with mad doctors or guys who have more resources or for mutually beneficial backside-whupping, Recluse should be the big-bad that people can turn to to make an offer. i.e. If you lend me a flyer and some scientists then, I dunno, I can take out anyone who is particularly bugging you at the moment.
He needs to be the kind of guy where Heroes do "But, but I did X, Y and Z to stop you!" and he can reply "I know. As expected."
Cue even laughter -

Quote:Unfortunately, while good on paper, it doesn't work on paper.Ranged pets would do well to have all their melee attacks removed. Just replace brawl with another ranged power that fits the concept. For Spec Ops, give them something other than Rifle Butt, and for the Medic, give him the normal attacks that non-medic soldiers get.
For Bots it just boils down to replacing Brawl with a slug-like power from Beam Rifle or whatever. Until the Mastermind Pet AI is fixed to not be completely moronic, this is the best suggestion I can make for ranged-using MMs. Oh, and remove Poison Dart from Ninjas Tier 2 pets, what a waste of Hide.
Of course go figure the Necro/Dark or really Necro/Demons/Beasts/Ninjas primaries as a whole are useless due to being melee.
Because, as was proven during a bugged period with the likes of Rikti drones; AI can and WILL go and stand next to an enemy, for no reason, even with NO melee attack.
The AI, and in particular the pet AI, is super mega pants on head. It really, really needs fixing. -

Human Smog, The Column of Samantha Christophe.
(Published in the front of the Paragon Times and on its own online page)
Sometimes sometimes you need to take the high ground. Sometimes you need to take one on the chin, or the cheek, or the backside. Turn the other cheek, and all that. Be the better person. Sometimes, thats the only way to resolve problems and stay vaguely sane in this world.
And sometimes you just wish you hadnt, that youd done what might well have been the right thing and got blood on your hands for the sake of cleaning one stain off the worlds face. Thinking about it, I guess Im glad thats never been my call. Its another reason I continue to hold that people who decry any and all Heroes are idiots or worse; somewhere, somehow, a Hero has to make a decision like that every damn day.
Ill stop dancing, anyway, and get to the point. One people may well probably know already. As of yesterday evening, the 6th of June, Alexis Cole-Duncan, aka Miss Liberty (Not Ms Liberty, her daughter) is dead. Murdered while trying to negotiate peace with the Isle of Warburg.
Warburg is a stain in the sea that doesnt have much right to exist anymore. A hot-bed of conflict, primarily over the missiles batteries it has, and the devastating payload manufacturing plant, named The Web in typical Arachnos Spider-fashion.
This is all old news, though. If you somehow dont know it, go look the damn thing up. Take an interest instead of relying on the Heroes and then verbally backstabbing them
This writing is messy. Abruptly moving house followed by the sudden death of a rather prominent ex-Heroine and daughter of Statesman himself could do that to a person. I suppose you get used to certain people being around, and then when they suddenly arent it comes as a shock. Given Alexis was seventy seven this year (and didnt look a day past thirty, if that), it doesnt seem unreasonable to expect that, like her father, shed be around for many years to come.
Except thats not happening, now. The world has lost a good woman who was known for turning the other cheek, because Marshall Jason Blitz of Warburg was given one more chance. Would things have been different if someone had dealt with Blitz before now? Would it have been better if the Freedom Corps and city Heroes simply stormed Warburg and disarmed the missiles, much like in 76 when the Heroes of the day forcibly disarmed the nuclear weapons on both sides and averted idiotic Mutually Assured Destruction?
Apparently, one of the people to blame for all this is Malaise, born Jean-Pierre Lourdin. A man who was given second chances by both Sister Psyche and Ms Liberty. Turns out that the naysayers were right in this case; sometimes, it seems, bad just stays bad.
Where does that leave us, then? The former Miss Liberty is former. Malaise and Marshall Blitz are apparently in custody, thanks to Manticore and other Heroes that were drafted in to help with the peace conference, although they were apparently out-manoeuvred when it came to defending Alexis.
I guess, much though it seems easy to lay the blame on them, I for one cant. Seriously, what the hell do people expect? They were Heroes. They acted like Heroes act, trying to give second chances and going things for the greater good. Thats what we expect of them, right? Damned if they did, damned if they didnt
Should we? Should we stop holding them to such ideals, almost impossible ideals, and instead ask them to do the right thing? To simply take the scumbags and head-cases out of the world? Then again, I guess that just destroys the whole point, the whole symbolism of the Hero, doesnt it?
Its a mess. All of it. And Statesman, from all accounts I can find, is currently un-findable. Supposedly tracking someone else, someone behind both Malaise and Blitz. I guess he decided that there are some things you just need to do yourself. I doubt anyone in their right mind could blame him for being angry.
Eh, this will have to do, mess though it is. Im done. I just hope Statesman does the right thing whatever that may be. -

Quote:For once, Dark Gods help me, we agreeActually, thinking about Loki, we don't really have an effortlessly sexy villain like him in the game - so many of them seem are either lacking in looks or personality - or both
Sleazy ones like Captain Castillo or Praetorian Percy don't count, as they're trying too hard - and failing - the Loki type need to be accidently sexy, and doesn't really acknowledge it, as he's too busy with his evil plans.
Avengers was so much damn fun because Loki was a spot-on perfect Super Villain. He was intelligent, charismatic mixed with evil and a little bit of twisted, and still powerful in his own way.
And guilty of monologuing at the worst times, thank you for that moment Dr Bannerhehe
We need more classy villains. Or better writing for the existing ones.
"...This usually works." -
Quote:Hah, I'd not even considered some of them, yeah...Yeah, and how many powers in the game require you or the target to be standing on the ground to work? They just won't work if swimming is involved.
How is Oilslick Arrow supposed to knock opponents down?
How are any fire powers going to burn underwater without looking stupid?
How are birds (Beast Mastery attacks) supposed to fly underwater?
The list goes on. -
You, sir, are doing it Very Darn Right. I salute you

Quote:It's not just TPN. You try running Keyes on a Bots/Traps and tell me how much 'fun' it is. Or a BAF, where the pets run where the hell they will, and then get Tower Sniped. Or a lambda, where they INSIST on running in to punch Marauder in the face. Despite the fact they are Bots. With lasers. And Rockets. And oh look, Nova Fist, all dead. Oh well, respawn th- why am I catching artillery in the face?!Keeping your pets on passive for almost the entire duration? Well your doing something wrong there.
Your inside more than you are outside, and when outside passive, and run behind buildings to avoid aggro.
There's a warning to tell you your being teleported, one click and problem solved.
Playing a Bots/Traps MM, for one, is just too painful in Incarnate content. Why? Because not only does it punish MMs a helluva lot, BUT THE PET AI IS STILL PANTS ON HEAD! Dear lord, it's been fecked since Demons came out, and still fecked when Beasts came out. I haven't touched my MM in ages, because it makes it so gods damned NOT FUN when I order my pets to do something and they IGNORE ME. I tell them to attack something, they go and brawl it in the face!
Is that hard to understand why it sucks like crazy? -
Quote:It's the fact it's Incarnate gated AND then level 50 gates AS WELL. The armour looks nice, although it is rather too specific to use much unless you have a specific concept in mind (Imo)I don't see why. You can purchase them on an appropriate character from Ouroborous. And if it's the fact it's costumes gated behind Incarnate Content, then there's still alternatives (Dark Astoria).
If the issue is that it's a locked costume set, well...that's a whole 'nother can of worms.
I'm not waiting 50 levels to finally have a character look 'right'. That's *stupid*, especially in a game that encourages alts. -

Quote:Uh...30-50. I didn't lose any levels when playing it on my 50+ Tank. While some kind of achievement/level recognition text option would have been cool, don't forget that this is a 30-40 mission that can be played by any VIP or purchaser, and doesn't require SSA1 to unlock it - so it's quite possible that while long-term players with +3 Incarnates are playing it, there are also new players who have only just hit 30 on their first avatar who decide to try it out.
And...eh. I liked it. It wasn't 'OMGI'M VOMITING RAINBOWS!' level good, sure, but it more importantly wasn't bad. Penny is still enough like the Penny of Faultline, albeit a bit (*bit*) more grown up. Even if her outfit is still stupid, imo. -
The market UI is still a pile of junk, in my not so humble opinion. Which makes me even more leery of the Dev comments on how 'valuable' UI team is. Possible because they have to then pick straws on who gets the horrible job... That's sure what it feels like.

Quote:Fire powers, underwater. Electric powers, under water. Firing bows or guns, underwater.I think that underwater fighting and movement could be "faked" with a permanent zone-wide version of Group Fly - only with a trail of bubbles instead of the usual air trail effects of flying, and the use of the current swimming animation as the default fly pose.
This would mean that no new animations would be needed, and the ability to select the normal fly psoes would also let people move through the water in a non-swimming way if they wanted to - like if they were a robot or other non-human thing.
This. Makes. No. Sense. None of those powers would (or should, rather) work properly underwater. It's really that simple. -
Quote:Sure, a lot of CoH inspiration comes from standard Hero comics, but there are other influences, at least from the feel of it. Sci-fi and fantasy stuff, which all have their own heroes and villains by default.Ok so maybe I don't have all the pertinent info and the like(it happens), but doesn't the whole Super Hero/Villain thing come out of comic books? I know comic books are influenced by other things as well, but what we see in the game we play is based off of the comic book super-hero.
Edit: We are in agreement on the pose though.
Really, I just primarily object to the 'argument' of 'X is done in comic books, so it's ok to do in the game!', even if X is really bloody stupid. Like that pose. -
Quote:The problem is that they've turned what used to be a fairl-How can you even mention those two in the same sentence?
I don't see why people are getting so worked up about a costume that covers 90% of the wearer's skin. You see more revealing outfits walking through a mall. Are they offended that she's female?
The pose isn't even really all that sexy, more just awkward.
Ok, as a character, from what I've seen, she's still Penny, so that's ok.
Visually, however? I mean...what the hell is the outfit even trying to be? It has random belts, and the colour balance is whacky and...eh. It just doesn't feel like it fits her character. I, for one, do not see Penny Yin, friend of Jim Temblor and Fusionette remember, wearing stupid high heel boots. It's the fact that, for the character that is still present in writing, the outfit and ESPECIALLY the stupid pose makes no gorramn sense.
Heck, even taking away some of the pointless straps and making it look like she's not wearing an extra pair of panties over her tights would make it look a lot better. This isn't about some silly, prudish 'Ohmahgawd she has skin! Raaaaage!'
Edit: Oh, and the face....thing. What even is that? I don't know, but it makes her look like she has metal eyebrows, or something.
Edit Edit: Yeah, I'm not saying Penny is 'over-sexualised' or anything, because that's as equally silly. I'm saying that pose, however, is daft. And the trollface. And her outfit. Nothing to do with 'over-sexualised.' Just a combination of bad, bad and worse, for their own reasons. -
Heh. Since this is already technically a poll post...
All those in favour of a non-Penny/SH background?
Aye -
