Actually, you are exactly the "we" I was talking about....the people who would never use one of the "practically useless" freebies and thus "WE would not bother visiting the store to claim them".

I just thought I would clarify that point.

If they are trying to get people to visit the store then it will fail if the items they are giving away are so rarely used, or so very short duration as to be a "save for an emergency" or "save until you know the exact right time to use it"(which end up being "never use" for me because that time never comes or passes by too quickly....like the Self Destruct power goes unused by me), that people can easily say "I won't use it so no point in even opening the store".
    That is the point.

You need to entice people "enough" while not giving them "too much", but "enough" needs to have some below it that are "not enough".
The inspirations and SINGLE xp booster are "not enough" because they are "not useful enough" or "not long-lasting enough", thus they are about as enticing as a free piece of candy to a child who already gets more candy for free from other sources(i.e. inspirations and xp drop like candy from the game, the store boosts and inspirations are just a little better but not worth paying for if you have access to AE).

Again, I'm not complaining so much as pointing and saying "that is a failed marketing plan".
It just won't work the way they want if the items are "not enough", but they do not need to give away "too much"(like the enhancement trays and server transfer tokens would be). The best option would probably be a single costume piece or maybe 5 sets of 10 patrol xp bars. It just needs to be "enough".

It changes color depending on what you mouse over. with an already multicolored flashing screen, that just makes it easy to lose it.
It would probably be better if it stayed one color and just changed shape for certain things.

The best option would be to reduce the complete overload of effects in the game though, but that won't happen as it would require likely reducing the amount of powers available and reducing the amount of clicks and toggles in favor of auto powers.
  4. Ok, I did further testing.

    1) The checkbox seems to start unchecked, until you manually check it and uncheck it and back out of the tailor. It performs normally after that mess for editing the costume already applied to the slot.

    2) Loading a saved costume, whether the box is checked or not, will uncheck the box while it behaves as if the box is checked.
You can't do the check+uncheck trick again because ti will reset your costume to default, losing all your options and scale settings.

Why is this so messed up?
  5. Consider me informed about stealth and perception, but I still swear monsters/giant monsters used to have less perception.

Also, every enemy has a level. they are used to determine what powers that enemy has access to and the amount of health and such that they have.

Deathsurge is a level 20 enemy, but he is a Giant Monster so he has to con purple to everyone as well. This was visible for a time a few years back before and after being invisible to us players.

Maybe they should just give up and type out the word fr every symbol.
For example: percent instead of %.

They seem to handle the alphabet better.
  7. The tailor lists are now not showing any unowned costume pieces available for purchase in the lists, except in one situation.

You need to check the box that hides unowned costume pieces and uncheck it again, resetting the costume to default, to be able to select unowned pieces to see how they look.

The unowned pieces are not in the list for an existing costume, whether the one the slot already has in it or a loaded previously saved costume.

This is very very aggravating because I can't see what the pieces look like while retaining the other options, especially the scale settings.

This needs to be fixed ASAP.

    Edit:
Doing the above, resetting the costume options to default through the above method and backing out of the tailor, seems to make the unowned pieces visible in the lists again when you go back into the tailor for that play session.

It seems that the check box, which is now unchecked by default, is actually checked by default but looks like it is unchecked, requiring you to click it twice and back out of the tailor to fix it for a costume slot.

Loading a saved costume still will not allow you to see unowned pieces in the list. You have to save the changes to the slot as the loaded costume and back out, if it works at all after that.

It seems the problem is the % sign. Either it now truncates the info or they are using the wrong symbol or code or something(instead of % ) which truncates the info.

Well then, is perception affected by level difference?

I swear, I can walk up to Deathsurge with just Super Speed and Stealth and make faces at him without gaining aggro. Deathsurge used to be listed as level 20 while he would still con purple.

That would explain the issue, but, either way, I know that it used to be easier to sneak past, or stand in front of, every giant monster and monster that didn't specially ignore stealth.
The 100ft stealth value seems new.

I would think the problem with Corruptor attacks showing nothing but(just made up numbers):
    Quote:
    X-ray Beam:
    41 damage
    -15% def for 8 seconds
    2.5&
    ....would be rather bad.

Just look in character creation or in game detailed info. It just stops and doesn't show any of the secondary effects and their values beyond that "2.5% chance to scourge per..." line.
This is most obvious for ice primary that doesn't show all the slow values. It is as if the set doesn't have slows.

    1) It seemed he was open to a fire secondary or primary, not just fire/fire. I gave suggestions and my own opinions.

    2) Immobilize is great in general for stopping melee attacks for every character.
You know what melee attacks have more of? low mag quick mezzes to turn off toggles and higher damage than ranged by quite a lot. Some enemies don't even seem to have ranged attacks at all while some definitely don't.
Immobilize is definitely great especially since damage is balanced to not be as good as it needs to be for your suggested playstyle, except on a Blaster or Stalker character which is designed to rely on damage almost exclusively.

Anyway, I'm just offering a differing opinion based on my experience, and I prefer safer play so immobilize definitely makes me safer or I wouldn't suggest it.

I'm not surprised. Every other game I have ever tried has always performed better than City of Heroes, with better graphics.

I would probably even say the Hero Engine performs better than City of Heroes sometimes.

FYI, I didn't take it as a personal attack, but it does look like you made a personal attack now that I review it. Interesting how you started the whole off-topic attack roundabout and blame it on others.

    Edit:
All I said was I was unimpressed and disappointed, not "give me something better NOW" or even any angry insults. I just said it does not look like it will accomplish the goal they created the program to accomplish.
That's perfectly civil and apt, unlike the "complainers complaining about complaints" which are completely pointless and nothing more than "grumpy old man" syndrome.

Honestly for all your complaints against negative comments, I have seen a lot more negative comments, especially snarky "general attacks", from you Forbin_Project.
When do you ever post a single neutral or positive thing that stays on topic without attacking others for no reason?

That is the last I'm saying about that, no matter how much you will inevitably attempt to goad me into more.

Yeah, if he wiped all the software then it's likely a hardware issue, unless he reinstalled broken software.

If you want to try reinstalling again then just install the absolute necessities and add back things one at a time until the problem happens again. If it happens with just the bare minimum necessary software then it is either that software or the hardware. If it happens after installing one thing, when it worked fine before, then that one thing is likely the issue.
  16. I happened to be in Recluse's Victory getting explore badges when I decided to check my combat attributes defense totals, to see how much Farsight was worth.

    This is what I saw:

    Ranged Defense - 12.62%
    Farsight - 14.21%
    Stealth - 2.25%
    Stealth - 2.25%
    Base - 0.00%

I waited until Farsight expired and this is what I saw:

    Ranged Defense - 4.12%
    Stealth - 2.25%
    Stealth - 2.25%
    Base - 0.00%

Also, the PVE value for Farsight is actually 14.71% defense to all, but it shows 15.00% in PVP in both the power's detailed info and my enhancement management screen's detailed info.
(Edit: Using the "show pvp effects" option while in any zone does not change power values anymore as well. It shows 15% for Farsight while in a PVP zone no matter what, and 14.71% in PVE zones.)

What the hell is going on with the numbers in PVP zones?

    Edit:
Also, why are the detailed info screens for powers so messed up now?
    1) This bug.
    2) The archetype can no longer be changed to see performance for other archetypes(discovered this just now).(Edit: seems to only affect certain powers like x-ray beam)
    3) The detailed info for corruptors breaks as soon as it tries to show the scourge chance. It shows "2.5" and then cuts off the entire rest of the power's info.(been this way since issue 21 at least)

Somebody completely broke the detailed info option and PVP combat attributes.
  17. /Time is amazing on any character, but a Corruptor will benefit from it very much.
    I second the "Fire/Time" advice.

    I also advocate a Gravity/something Dominator or Gravity/Time Controller.
Gravity Control is awesome since they buffed it, and I find Gravity/Time very powerful and fun, though very active(which is rough on fast teams).

    Edit:
Immobilizes are useful at low levels for every character for 3 reasons:
    1) They keep foes out of melee range.
    2) They recharge faster than the hold powers.
    3) They don't "break", as in turn off early or temporarily due to damage.

Do not underestimate the effect of immobilize on survivability.

I love my Gravity/Time Controller, which has high damage for a Controller, even though the main control it has is immobilize, including its only AoE before 35(not counting the amazing singularity pet as ghetto-AoE at level 32).

And honestly, you're the ones blowing it out of proportion and making it sound like we're protesting inside the NCSoft offices when I made exactly 3 posts on this entire topic and only in this thread.
I just said my piece and promptly went about my business, while you have to come back and complain complain complain about "imaginary anger".
You just invent a reason to complain, which is much worse than just a simple "this is disappointing" post.

Hell, I just complained about you complaining. LOL

That's it for me on this topic. Either they give a bit better thing next time or we don't even bother checking after a month of "next to nothing".
Game developers never learn. You can't give too good of an incentive or too little because players will tire of both and end up pushed farther away from whatever the developers want them interested in than they were before the incentive was added.

They need to give something a little better than "a single one of their cheapest and most unfulfilling consumables", but not something too good.
(Edit: How does Firefox not know that "unfulfilling" is a word when it knows of "unfulfilled"?)

    Stealth = Super Speed = 35ft each
    Mask Presence = 40 ft

    70ft(Stealth+Super Speed) vs 75ft(Mask Presence+Super Speed)

How much extra perception do those monsters have? enough to see 70ft from 30ft away while not seeing 75ft right in front of them?

Like I said, something does not seem right. I was just asking if anybody else noticed that enemies may have seen them when they should have been perfectly hidden.

As an aside, it could have been the fact that I was using Chrono Shift and Farsight at the time. Maybe those had their "enemies will not notice this" part broken or some even more strange bug.

    Edit:
FYI, monsters, and even giant monsters, do not arbitrarily have extra perception. I used to stand in front of Deathsurge in Cap Au Diable and try to take pictures of the him when his ghostly face pulsed in front of the electrical graphics of his head.
Enemies only have increased perception under special conditions.

    Edit 2:
At least last I checked, monsters and giant monsters had the same perception as everythign else, but this was back in issue 21 that I last went around any GMs before now.
  20. It sounds like you had too much running. Your system was running out of resources.

I know I got a huge boost in performance for my own computer by disabling the Windows 7 prefetch for frequently used programs, even if they load a little slower to start with since they are no longer hogging RAM when not in use.
  21. I have noticed a lot of odd behavior with Stealth and Super Speed on lately.
My combat attributes definitely show 70ft of stealth, but enemies that have no extra perception still detect me at least a little ways off. It's as if Stealth or Super Speed is not adding to my stealth so that they see me 30ft away.

The most notable are the monsters roaming The Hive.
While my widow with Mask Presence and Super Speed can get right next to them, my Gravity/Time controller with Stealth and Super Speed can't get that close. Though, I have not tested my widow's stealth in at least a couple weeks.

Can anybody else confirm odd behavior of either of those powers or stealth as a whole lately?

It was a scientist named Hamidon Pasilima who managed to unlock incarnate power through science, altering himself into a giant form of the most successful form of life on the planet....a single cell organism.

The developers and community people have said he was an incarnate at least a few times.

    http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Hamidon

In a Q&A done by Razer, developer Black Scorpion implied that Hamidon had somehow been able to tap into the Well of The Furies and turned himself into an Incarnate, which could explain his appearance and massive power.
  23. Turn off Ambient Occlusion and probably Shadows as well. You're trying to do too much for your system to handle with the graphics. City of heroes uses the CPU a lot more than other games for graphics.
You should also turn down your physics quality(it doesn't do much past low anyway) as well as reflections and water quality. Ultra is too high for those. You're better off no higher than "high", but reflections will eat up CPU resources fast.

    Edit:
FYI, ambient occlusion and shadows don't play well together sometimes. Use one or the other, not both.

    2) I can't mez every enemy at once so the others will still be able to come after me.(Edit: as gravity/time they can mez me as well and I have no protection from it at that level as a gravity controller, except inspirations which I would need a whole tray of)

    3) good luck finding a team for help villain side for that clone army mission, especially if doing it through Ouroboros such that you need a team for the entire arc of actual villain alignments(rogue included).

    4) Hamidon is an incarnate. That makes some sense that this powers would be unique, but it also makes sense that we could get a similar amount of power(example: Emperor Cole/Statesman/Rularuu/Lord Recluse/The Honoree/etc...).

I think it would have been best if players were equivalent to a hero/archvillain class enemy such that we could solo them while fully incarnate players would be equivalent to incarnate AVs/Heroes and giant monsters(which the Hamidon is but is actually an incarnate).

That way we would feel "super" when going up against small groups of elite bosses, larger groups of bosses and huge groups of everything lower.
(Edit: The best example of this is the Positron TF part one, the new version. You get 8 boss doppelgangers for 8 players, and it is a lot of fun.)

And anyway, it would be much easier to maintain balance all around if NPCs got the same powers and numbers as players so that problem powers would be more obvious and reported more often.
Of course, enemies ranked lower than AV/Hero would get fewer powers, similar to how AE custom enemy groups work.

It makes sense if you don't fall to the excuse of "bad AI" which can be designed to be a bit better and is already compensated for with "more enemies".
