Quote:1) We probably don't see when subtraction is taking place on Shadowhunter and leavign only part of the damage to go through and the most common state is "all absorbed" or "none absorbed", and we are not him thus can't look at the logs for him.It doesn't have to "split the damage into two". It just has to do a subtraction.
As far as I know it's already working, since Shadowhunter has it.
2) My point was that the game has never had to do a damage subtraction before. It was all done with health where all damage went through and health was added by a heal after.
This is about damage being stopped before it hits player health, removing an extra pool, and then only part of that damage proceeding on to then be affected by resistance.
I wonder if they really can make that work perfectly every time such that a single damage packet can be subtracted from before it has fully finished executing?
That's a rather tall order considering how often things have broken that we took for granted as "too well made to break" or "no patch notes even remotely associated with a specific thing so couldn't have broken that specific thing"(and yet the specific thing was broken by that patch). -
Just realized something.
He/she could be calling "frame-rate stutter" "lag", which is a common mistake among the technical newbies.
That would make sense with the "Intel(R) HD Graphics" in the partial report above.
Maybe the computer is just not good enough for CoH. -
Quote:So, any new issue 23 broadsword unlockables?I'll see if I can't put some up right now. I'll hit up the Fire and Ice while I'm at it.
Edit: Uploading the screenshots right now.
Edit 2: Oh, hey! They're up! And while I'm at it, going to put up all the others (except Mecha, which I don't have yet).
Edit 3: Holy cow, got 'em all done except Mecha stuff (which I don't have) and the Cupid's Bow (Which I don't have). If someone has either of those, go for it.
I heard there was a sword from Pendragon, but are there any available from badges for those without IO access and non-VIP? I would like to see pictures if possible as well. -
Quote:Where?Someone was kind enough to put up the dialog for the Underground Trial on its talk page, but that appears to be it.
That page says "click on the far right", but there is nothing to click. It's a blank page.
I would love to know HOW Vanessa DeVore died. I get the impression that she had become the Avatar, but nobody will give me a straight answer when I ask if they know and wiki doesn't know. -
I would like to know what new broadsword options were added if any and how to get them, particularly if I can get them as a non-VIP?
-
I would not be surprised if that sort of situation ends up bugged to where it will put all 175 damage through while depleting the absorption simply because the game has never had to split one chunk of damage into 2, as far as I know.

Quote:Odd, Lady Jane seems to handle stairs better than ever for me. She used to get hung up on any old rock in the floor of the cave. And it is getting worse. NPCs like Lady Jane did not originally have difficulty with steep stairs in Cimmeroan-style cave maps, and now they do. And just this week Desdemona got hung up on the gently rolling hills of People's Park. At a guess, somewhere in the AI code is a constant labeled $MaximumVerticalSlope (or some such), and it is set to something well less than 45 degrees. Which is unfortunate, given the staircase angles of Praetorian-style indoor maps.
I have also seen the way NPCs deal with the Praetorian stairs get slightly better, in that they tend to get unstuck if I hop up and down faster than they used to. Also, enemy ambushes that are the "omniscient" type have no trouble with stairs at all. I wish they would give that code to all ally escorts. -
Turn off Aero, the semi-transparent window effects.
You can do a search for Aero right in your start menu.
That is eating up a lot of your performance, so it should help to turn that off.
Also, if you still have the Windows "prefetch" process running, shut it down permanently. That's a RAM hog because it loads all your recently used programs into RAM "in case you may want to use them again" even if you only use them rarely. It's also better to only load what you use when you use it than let the system load it before you do. -
Quote:boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?p=4200886P.S. I don't see a DxDiag or CoHHelper in this thread. Is any of that posted in another thread?
I still have no idea what causes that error either.
The two seem a bit related though, considering that this error seems to reset my character's movement status(knocked down or riding the rocket board without the board) and cause trouble tracking my movements while the linked thread's error is all about my tracking apparently being off while manually moving such that the mouse cursor appear to be pointign from a different position than my character.
I would like both issues to be solved, but the linked one is far less of a problem. I'm just concerned that the other error could be a symptom of a bigger problem or lead to a bigger problem.
Both issues still occur at random times under the proper circumstances for each. -
Well, if the +def was changed to absorb then it would still not be breaking the cottage rule because both are damage mitigation and, I would argue, absorb fits the true intention of "force field" more than +def does.
-
Ok, so nobody knows if it is intentional or not.
Does somebody want to PM a community rep to ask?
I just don't want to get in trouble for taking advantage of something I am not supposed to have access to. -
Reviewing your information...
You were probably overheating.
I have a Nvidia GTX 465 and I overheat if I have my settings for reflections and shadows and occlusion as high as you do. I just outright turn those off and never run occlusion with shadows if I run any of it.
You should monitor your temperature(keep it below 70C, over 80C is begging for a crash) and get this program from Nvidia to manually set your graphics card fan speed higher: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_...ools_6.06.html
That will keep your card cooler so you don't have video driver crashes, but your card probably isn't good enough to run the game that maxed out. City of Heroes doesn't run as good as it should with powerful hardware. We just have to accept it and turn down the settings.
Edit:
Also, how good is your internet. CoH tends to "lay a brick" when internet connections lose packets, at least sometimes. I know because my internet is not the greatest such that I sometimes crash while teaming, especially in AE missions. Comcast is an internet provider to avoid for gaming as well. -
/facepalm
1) I am on a free account, so no free access to Night Ward contacts.
2) I did not purchase the Night Ward mission pack.
3) I can not access the primary storyline contacts of Night Ward.
Therefore, why am I able to do missions for Trilogy and Fireball while Mistress Maria and Montague Castanella say that I need to be VIP or purchase the pack?
Am I getting something for free as intended or is this a bug and they should be locked behind a payment? -
Quote:You can't set ZoneAlarm to "always allow" City of Heroes and the NCSoft launcher? It seems that ZoneAlarm does not play well with City of Heroes. I don't play regularly, so there's always a patch to download when I log in. The patch changes the .exe file, which causes ZA to pop-under a warning. In order to get to the pop-under (to allow CoH to connect to the server) and pat ZA on the head and tell it that, yes, I know the .exe file has changed, and yes, I'd like to allow it to connect, I have to alt-tab out of CoH. This apparently gives ZA fits. Some part of the CoH display becomes permanently lodged on the desktop, as you've seen.
Most firewalls/AV programs have options to do that, as far as I know. -
Maybe they finally worked out direct "-damage" rather than a debuff before damage is dealt?

Quote:"All in favor?"i second this. Absorb actually does a better job of emulating the mechanics of most traditional fictional/comic book force fields than what we have now. Adding absorb to force fields would also give the set more appeal.
"AYE!"
I am in favor of it as well. It would be extremely awesome if it had a different "hit" animation as well, one where it was obvious the power hit but did not physically hit the character.
Here is an example at 0:55 in the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfGwfhU7z5M
The idea is to have an obvious "pinging off the shield" hit without "making them flinch" like hits currently work in the game. -
Quote:Which is why there is a no return law on opened packages for services in at least some US states.(I think)For what it's worth, the NCSoft 60 day time cards I've gotten don't have stuff to scratch off. The code is clearly visible once you open up the packaging and pull out the card.
There definitely is a policy against it for most retailers. -
Also, the original discussion is about the goggled hero with shoulder pads in the center of Steel Canyon that is identical to the Galaxy City "Tank" statue of M1 and the "peeping tom" statue at the badge location in Peregrine Island.
Talos is actually a completely different statue of a horned hero.(iirc, ymmv, legalese)

Quote:That would likely take rewriting the way people get around in the world to makes sense within a story. My confusion in all this is why they chose to add yet another method of travel instead of consolidating the others?
The immersion in the world, the way things make sense, is most important.
So it may not make much sense to us given all the other options, but the TUNNEL system is actually supposed to be an evacuation route from Praetoria, according to the story, before Emperor Cole nukes it. It just happens to also facilitate travel to the many zones it is evacuating people to and from.
Edit:
There is always the other explanation that this game likes to use: "These are not the droids you are looking for." /handwave

Quote:What I heard was that they were put into the store system to "update" them form the old way they were awarded way back when to the new way of doing things.Yeah, I'm trying to figure out if maybe they were included in one or more of the costume bundles I'd recently purchased. I bought several: Vanguard, Wedding, Valkyrie, Magic, Origins Capes ...
They are still only available to those who purchased those special bundles years ago. -
Can you change your graphics options from the login screen?
That is a lot less resource intensive than going all the way logged into a character, so it should not have any issues.
If even the login screen settings option is crashing then you have a rather severe error. -
Quote:Ahh, I went to Trilogy and Fireball. I didn't know their level range. It's possible. The 5 alignment contacts in First Ward are essentially newspaper missions, each contact only hands out about 3-4 misions, 1 of which is just a 'go kill X amount of Y group". Though their level range is strictly 20-29. At 30 they move to Inactive Contacts
And the level range for Trilogy and Fireball (And the Drudge? Which I think is a villain contact) are 30-50.
But, my main question is why don't I have to pay for those contacts?
I'm not VIP.
Are they free contacts/missions for everyone? Is that the same for the First Ward secondary contacts as well? -
Quote:Yes, but do you think people stop trying to squeeze every ounce of performance out of that hardware?Computer hardware gets more and more powerful every year. The size and cost have no bearing on this. This is blatantly obvious and common knowledge.
Also, consoles don't change that fast, neither do user computers unless there is a problem.
Developers have to squeeze more performance out of the hardware that is in consumer hands, not the stuff in prototypes and trade shows, in order to get sales.
So yes, hardware does advance, but they still have to do as much with as little they can to make sure they impress people and can get sales from people who don't "buy the newest car every year" essentially.
Anyway, do you have any ideas for solving my issue permanently?
Spending money on new internet or hardware is not an option at the moment nor is it a permanent solution. -
Quote:Probably, this game goes way overboard on the particle count and everything is tied to that setting. So lowering it to be able to see actually makes it harder to see what you are trying to because you only need that when things are way too busy.I have a problem with the lightning beams in that they don't always all show up. I tend to inevitably get killed by an invisible one. I figure it might have to do with my particle count settings and just how many powers are going off on my screen just before they hit. :/
I wish they would scale back the particle effects a lot, either by reducing the amount of powers or just reducing the effects overload of every power. It just would be nice to be able to see while things still look cool.
