Quote:Unfortunately until Aug 17 (M-Day) comes out the answer is "it depends". Currently from levels 4-20 a hero smacking Hellions and Circle of Thorns can get some common arcane salvage and do well enough to afford their DOs.I've been trying several different types and builds, so I can't give you a short answer. But I did get a crash course in frankenslotting from some friends who've been playing a while, and I priced it out, and it leaves me with a lot of empty slots. I don't even know if that's typical. Random-checking over the past couple-three days, I haven't yet seen set IO's with accuracy in the name going for less than 2m. And none of my toons have more than about 200k in pocket. So I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to do some smart selling.
So I guess what I'm asking is, is there a simple rule of thumb a newbie can use to sell the kind of drops he's getting in the 10-14 range for enough to buy these items?
If the answer is, "No, do your math homework or buy the vendor ones," and if the vendor ones are considered adequate, then I'm content with that. I just wanna know.
Few recipes in the 10-14 range are worth anything so many rolls using AE tickets for bronze rolls in that range can work on both sides (hero/villain) once you get a KB Prot or some other valued recipe.
Simplest rule of thumb I can give for 10-14 is:
recipes unless they do something special : vendor
uncommon salvage : vendor
rare salvage : vendor
common salvage: if anyone is bidding list for 300, else vendor
There's no reason to buy set IOs at 10-14 unless you have more inf than sense (like me). -
Quote:I can't give you a good answer without knowing what level you are, what AT and primary/secondary.Yep, that's the kind of thing I'm talking about. The sort of thing a confused newbie most wants to get out of his bags.
If I vendor it all, I can't afford the enhancements I need -- keep in mind, I'm not a good player yet, I'm still just kinda walking into walls and facerolling, trying to figure it out, so I need all the bonuses I can get. With that in mind (and if folks don't mind me threadjacking like this), can you suggest a simple rule of thumb for making an adequate profit without having to sit on full bags?
I'm not looking to make millions fast. Just slot up to the point where I can play at level and not have to be carried. This is with normal play, no farming. (I like AE missions, they're fun, but I'm playing each interesting story once, not finding a lucrative one and doing it over and over, which is what I believe is meant by AE farming.)
The reason is because you mention all the bonuses you can get. Bonuses are mostly worthless at lower levels. Frankenslotting will generally be far more beneficial.
I don't do the market games but I am careful about what I target to do (enemies/missions) for maximum benefit. I either go the insane IO route or the get enough inf to buy my DOs/SOs route depending on how much I plan to play and how fast I expect to level but even within that it depends greatly on the character.
For example, my pets do all the work for my mastermind so at the lower levels I want them having as much Accuracy as I can get for them. I boost my secondary set to help my pets keep me alive. None of this requires much in the way of IOs. But on a brute I want to keep my endurance bar going so I want Accuracy on the attacks and +Recovery and -End on the attacks and armors. Though now the temp power Recovey Serum is taking the place of that work. -
Abyss has had one in about every mission she gave me yesterday.

Has anyone mentioned (I tried to read all the posts but I could have missed it) that if the object is to give 50s something to do the same goal would be accomplished by creating new arcs for 50s?
-
Quote:Depends on the time stamps and current number for sale and bidding of the items but that could indicate if you are buying you can wait and get it for cheap (1, 5, 100) and you can sell for more but it would really depend on the timestamps and outstanding bids/listings.
By 'bizarre enormous price swings' I mean something like this:
10,500
5
100
222,222
1
This is not what I would call useful market data.
I'd guess common or uncommon salvage that has 0 bidding and tons for sale with numbers like those and lacking the other two data points. -
Quote:I never twink my lowbies. If anything I send my inf to my higher level characters to buy more stuff since they have more slots. So, imagine that you just made 27 and didn't have any rich alts or rich friends. What would you be putting in for enhancements? How would you get it?
There is no way I get to 27 and cannot afford to slot level 30 SOs so instead I shall adjust your question to the following two with answers.
1. Imagine you were PLed to 27 and weren't going to twink, what would you slot and how would you afford it?
A: I would run to Mission Architecht and find an easy mission/arc to play and build up some tickets and random roll the 25-40 arcane commons and sell them in the market until I had enough to buy my level 30 SOs.
2. Imagine you rolled a new character. How would you play the game but build your finances?
A: This answer has a lifespan of 3 weeks since the merged market on August 17 will throw this into chaos.
heroes: I run my lowbie arc to level 5. I go to Kings Row and get my radio and run my 3 radio missions and the safeguard to get my raptor pack. I focus my attention on Hellions for arcane salvage drops like luck charms. I clear the hellions in the safeguard.
I check my salvage drops at the market and sell any where people are currently bidding. I could run some Mission Architect stuff to get tickets to take the random arcane salvage rolls to get quick inflluence.
villains: I run Kalinda's arc to 5. Head to Port Oakes and get my paper and run my 3 papers and then the mayhem to get my raptor pack. I run MA missions to level 10 or so and roll bronze until I get a KB prot and sell it in the market. Once that is done I return to mission arcs for merits.
If I don't have 10M by level 20 just playing the game with a few forays into MA to get tickets for random arcane salvage and bronze tickets it is very rare but I still always have enough to get my level 25 SOs at 22. -
Quote:I can only speak for a few but we were thinking "Why hasn't Uber put that superdyne addict on ignore yet?"Of course it would never occur to some folks that there are other folks who don't find any of this tedious or toiling. No, surely that couldn't be it. And of course it's fair to be indignant against something that one both perceives as a toiling tedium and as highly rewarding in terms of character progression. Surely it makes no sense that MMO developers might actually intend for something to take time to achieve, and that any game's set point for time/attention required to achieve time-consuming goals will be subjectively perceived on a player-by-player basis.
What were we all thinking? -
Quote:No. Prestige Power Slide is from the Coh Collector's edition and it is not one of the vet ones. Can you use a UK account code with a US version? I'm assuming you can't. Yeah, the prices in America are pretty crazy, most likely because the thing is out of print and can't be purchased new anymore.
Also, I thought the Sprint powers were perks of the Collector's Edition, weren't they? -
Quote:The PvP recipes going for more than the 2B cap should show how pointless any cap would be but let's walk through a cap scenario.what do i believe...well lets say i cant believe people arent laughing at the idea of making everything 100k...it proves tht person/people dont really care about their toons and dont want to work to make their toons awesome.
i argee of putting a cap tho (what price- i dont know tbh) maybe the 2bill is fine as it is. but a cap is needed to stop people posting parthetic prices.
2B cap - current status: Only a few PVP recipes meet or exceed this and are sold off market or have incredibly long waits in the market.
Let's lower it to 1B cap. All those previous PVP recipes will remain status quo with slightly longer lines of people waiting to get them at that price. Then they are taken off market and sold for their current prices any way.
Let's lower it to 500M cap. See PvP recipes above then add in those that go for 500M-1B currently getting lines and sold off market for their current prices any way.
As you continue to lower the cap to catch more recipes/enhancements you simply drive their sales off market and create longer lines in market. -
[QUOTE=Stratos;3056613]Quote:Do they have unique pieces? Can a unique glove be worn on the foot? I'd say the variety of choices of IO enhancements into 2 varied power builds is very dissimilar to gear in a traditional MMO.That couldn't be possible and still have it be a dual build. The whole point is to swap around the slots and powers. If you kept the same IOs some/most would be invalid.
QUOTE]
It's possible. Granted the devs would have to care and actually implement an interface for it, but definitely possible.
Not un-similar to how you can have two gearsets in WoW. Both sets often have some of the same pieces, but other pieces are different (obviously) to accomodate different situations.
I think you are underestimating how varied two builds on a character can be in CoH versus WoW. -
Quote:Yeah, I had them too. Castle, Posi, CuppaJo, Lighthouse...I had "collected" PMs from pretty much every dev and mod ever involved in the game, but ended up just tossing them out. They got duplicated, somewhat corrupted, and spread over the various PM mailboxes, so I just killed them all. Ah well--I always had the wrong emotional connection to all those PMs from Statesman anyways.
I think I had one from Statesman too.
I almost wish something could break the stranglehold this game has on me but they just keep on giving me more fun stuff to do. -
I don't understand why they don't sell an expansion booster with the collector's editions' ingame items.
-
I think this is actually a good idea because by using a % chance to get a merit this gives the devs the ability to tweak it.

Quote:Maybe NCSoft should add these questions to the cancelling query if they mention the words "purple" and "too long" in the freetext box.Zactly. I'm thinking people are getting cranky after fifty hours of play and a brand new level 50 ...
How long did it take you to get to 50 with your most recent character?
a) a day
b) a week
c) a month
d) longer than a month
e) I don't have a 50 (skip next question)
How long have you played that 50 since getting to that level?
a) I haven't.
b) Less than 8 hours
c) more than 8 hours but less than 20
d) more than 20 hours but less than 100
e) more than 100 hours
If someone picks a-c on the first one and a-d on the second this popup:
"Congratulations! Your account has received the Veruca Salt badge." -
-
I would say it might be even lower than that.
People want to play in god mode.
People get fidgity after 2-3 minutes at the fast food drive thru.
People get antsy waiting for microwave popcorn.
We have way too many Verucas in the world or at least in the North American and Western Europe world. -
It was the GMOTD when we logged in yesterday. /gmotd in game to read it

You mean unlocking ones? Because the store is where it tracks whether they have been used or not.

Mod12 is 50% more than Mod08. Math doesn't lie we just don't know more what.

Quote:The anti-hoarding argument is that hoarding would raise prices so I am not sure how that is bunk. It's funny, there are "guild banks" in other MMOs, and they've found ways to make it work... Even if there are private banks available, I'd still like to see a SuperGroup Bank, that can be managed by maybe a few individuals within the SG. Somewhere that higher characters can throw extra inf, saving up for things like hosting costume contests, signing bonuses, converting to prestige, or just giving to new characters to help them get started out enhancing.
And, while we're at it, why not have a recipe area in that bank? The whole "hoarding" argument that has been thrown up against hoarding of recipes is total bunk - the rampant ridiculous market prices for the too-rare drops is proof that the system is already broken. I can't count how many times I heard "the market will stabilize and prices will come down" over the years, and it's gone the exact opposite in most cases. Let us store rare recipes for the members of our SG that can use them, instead of forcing a "sell it for 300 million" mentality that just perpetuates the runaway market and completely leaves out all but the constant players who can afford them. Oh, and only serves to encourage normally honest players to consider using gold farmers.
It's gone the exact opposite for reasons. Easier to get to 50, more inf earned at 50, merits added in the place of random recipes at the end of TFs and Trials, etc.
You can store the recipes in email and when someone wants them you could email it to them or for even more ease of use you could craft them and store them in the SG for people.
If this normally honest person is encouraged to break the rules I question their true integrity. And risking getting their account stolen or credit card number misused for stuff in the game seems to be a bit foolish. -
Quote:Or they decided to quit.Interesting counterpoint: I logged in today to find that every single purple bid I had placed filled overnight. That's several billion in purples being dumped in a day. Perhaps someone knows something :-/
Or they think they know something.
Or their account got hacked. Ouch.
Or if enhancements not recipes, a SG got raided. Also ouch.
Anyway with market merging and reset on the 17th I think we could see really weird stuff for the next 4 weeks.
