The point is, the game clearly doesn't have the population it once had. NCSoft kinda admitted that a few years ago when they stopped disclosing CoX's subscriber numbers in their quarterly statements. But so what - if the game is fun, that doesn't matter.

The part that DOES matter though, is when they keep the same number of servers, but don't give people a free way to do some transferring. Because there are a few servers that are super dead, and only 2 or 3 that are high activity most of the day/night.

My point is that a subscription is ultimately a lot better to have than a couple server transfers. Losing customers who get bored on low pop. servers can lose you a lot more money.

One final note: the red/yellow/green dots are all relative. They aren't raw numbers, so you really can't conclude anything from that.
I play on Triumph too. I don't stand around waiting to see someone to decide if people are there with all the zones and instanced missions because I don't expect people to come to where I am to let me know they are there.

Or do you think you just form teams and wander around Atlas Park so people can see you?

Instead, we keep getting new game systems which I neither need nor use. PvP? Gutted and pointless, and I haven't used it since all the PvP'rs moved out of my home server. AE? Continually nerfed and drowned in farms. I stopped using it about 4 months after its debut. Going Rogue? Hopelessly entangled with A-merits. I've sent one character rogue just to see what it's like, got halfway, and stopped. I don't see myself ever using the system again. I'm told there are story lines buried in the random generator of tip missions, but it's harder finding them than it is finding something good in AE. Incarnates? The jury is still out. But I'll say that the problem I had with playing my 50s was NOT that they weren't powerful enough. I really don't see Incarnate powers/salvage adding much to my game.

The only new system I've used and enjoyed since its implementation is the market/invention system. Old-school rpg reflexes kicked in, saying, "Who doesn't love loot?"

So. Issue 20 seems likely to be all about the Incarnates. Fine, get that system finished and out of the way. But please, afterwards, can we get back to the good stuff? You know, the basic game? Revamp Boomtown, give us a space zone, an underwater zone, more Praetorian zones, more time travel set piece zones.

War Witch said that after Incarnates, they would be focusing on content. That's what I'm hoping for in 2011. A Return to the Gold Standard.

  6. My advice is to add piecemeal as you need or can afford. In the meantime check every drop for unmet demand in the market and see if you can sell it for more than the vendors pay and check your recipes to see if you can craft them and sell the enhancements for a profit.

Also place bids on things you want for less than the going rate and let them sit for a few days to a week. The reverse for selling here is you check to see if you can buy the crafted IO for less than the recipe plus salvage plus crafting cost.

Common IOs get dumped from time to time and you can get bargains there to tide you over until you get the set ones you want.

Me? I start IOs at level 7 as I can afford them since they don't expire like TOs, DOs and SOs.
  7. Ice gliding would be nice. I suppose it would be similar to blending Prestige Power Slide and Super Jump while generating an ice road underfoot that would fade/melt over time or distance of the character from it.

What would be the other 3 powers from the set or were you thinking just individual travel powers from an alternate travel power pool set?

So scientific notation? Those zeroes aren't meaningless.

Apart from that nothing other than deleting all inf from the game or changing to a new currency can do that and then they'd still need to limit earning and storing capabilities of players.
  10. I am finally watching Season 6. Just finished "Lighthouse" last night. At least now I know what the numbers referred to.

I know there are some but they are either ancient or niche.

And I can empathize with every single point about open PvP but it hasnt been that bad in beta and I know there is always the option of the pve servers.

And as far as I am concerned any superhero based game with heros and villains without a healthy pvp element is always going to fall short of what I personally expect from a superhero based game.

And playing in 4v4 matches as batman fighting harley quinn, bane, etc in arkham asylum is pretty damn SUPERHERO! :P
PvP works well when players are limited in choices so it can be balanced but PvP with individual builds is problematic. I have never felt City was built well for PvPing even though it logically fits for heroes vs villains.

100k*level to move a slot to some other power (only if empty)

Add every temp power to a NPC where you can simply buy it with inf, much more expensively but more conveniently
I want that first idea of merit buying thing so much. I was just thinking that last night how I wish I could just buy my A-merit flat out with inf or buy the r-merits for it.

I also like your suggestion of buying temp powers. I am all for simple options and it doesn't get any simpler than pay X inf to get something.
  13. So long Number 8. Watch out for #2 and best wishes on your moving and new place.
  14. I used to like the market teleport power but with the linked ferries and trains I find I don't need it as much. Now I've been getting the arena and PvP zone ones for the defense toggle power.
  15. By my definition of 'marketeering'*: 0

By the mass anti-market forces' definition of 'marketeering'**: all of them

    * - flipping, buying recipes and salvage just to craft and sell for a profit. I did this 3 years ago for a while when I was working on my 22 Field Crafters. I also used to craft common IOs for profit like End Mods but haven't done that in over 2 years.

** - selling my drops in the market and buying what I want for my characters from the market.

That isn't what caused the I19 spike. It was AE monkey farms.

You cannot solve a problem until you identify it and its cause. The cause of inflation in the game is too much influence chasing too few items.

We generate inf at insane rates with little to spend it on and as long as that is the case inflation on the better and best things will remain.

    Meanwhile trash remains trash.

And I am still waiting for anyone to show that inflation on the better and best goods in a game is a problem. It's not real life where food and shelter are negatively impacted.
  19. My favorite part of you Crazy 88s are some of the names your characters have.

Why did I make this suggestion? I think inflation isn't good for the game, and I had an idea on how to fix it without consuming dev resources or making players feel like they are losing out.
But your premise was wrong and would not solve the problem.

Inflation was there before I19 so shards are not the cause and how would running lower level TFs/SFs reduce inflation?

The inf is based upon the character's real level so an exemplared 50 is going to earn just as much inf from defeating foes as if they were fighting 50s.

I would also submit there isn't a problem with inflation existing because the reality is it can only exist in the market for the premiere goods and if it gets high enough it makes hero/villain merits even more valuable in getting those items.

So what if most people cannot afford a 2 billion PVP IO? So what if they don't want to pay 300 million for a purple which only a level 50 can slot any way?

If we're talking about anything else reward merits, hero/villain merits and AE tickets are the great equalizer if people are willing to make any effort.
  21. The official announcement said it runs through today. I expect it to be turned off during the Tuesday maintenance window. In the past they would have used Sunday's date and ended it during maintenance this morning.

That stinks. I wish I could use my inf to get you a new card.

It's not that I have more than I know what to do with it's I have more than enough for what I can do and nowhere near enough for the 1 billion and higher things. So using a real life example, I can afford to go out to eat once a month without hurting my budget but saving that money for a 1960s Batmobile is out of the question so I just keep on going out once a month.

If I ever get to storing inf bidding on level 51+ items then I will have more than I know what to do with though and I'll PM you.

Now you may be wondering how I am making such an assertion that the OP has an influence issue?

If you have a tight budget, and the prices of what you want sky-rocket, as they had; you experience anguish. Now if the anguish is great enough, it is a natural reflex to post in forums seeking a way to relieve the pain.

If you are rich, and have influence coming out of your ears, you think you would notice inflation? Doubtfully, and extremely unlikely you would open a forum thread to seek relief over the inflation.

So my post, was advice on how to get rich. Even you, in your sarcastic filled posting, down deep in your mind; you knew it was lack of influence the actual problem and as a result you also gave advice as well on how to become rich, ha ha ha, "buy low, sell high"; I swear I heard that in some comedy movie...

    Stormy
You've kind of hit my nail on the head. I cannot understand any complaints of inflation unless it comes from "have nots" even if some people try to couch their positions as if they are standing up for others and not themselves.

But I cannot take any solutions seriously because inflation will remain as long as the game keeps cranking out inf and drops from NPCs unless the devs went mental and capped us all at every level to 10 inf.
  24. And then what?

People at level 50 will still buy what they want and email it down to their alts to hold.

What exactly is the expected accomplishment of all of this nonsense?
