  1. I changed my game password and I can now obviously log into the forums.....but now I can't log into the game itself any more.

So far Issue 21 is just a horrible nightmare.
  2. Changing my game account password let me log into the forums but now the game says my password is incorrect.

    AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!
  3. Well I still can't play on the live servers. I can play on the beta server just fine though

Maybe I'll have to try a uninstall/reinstall of the live game instance.

    EDIT:

Well, a full uninstall and reinstall of the game client seems to have resolved it for the moment. Yay for high speed cable connections...

I've run the repair twice with no improvement. I used to get the long waiting times after choosing a server or character but that went away a week or so ago. I assumed something they'd done with all the recent maintenance had resolved that particular issue.
  5. I hope it's on their end otherwise I'm at a loss to explain what's changed between last night and this morning.

No updates, installs, nothing showing in the Windows event log. Just can't explain it
  6. I've tried repeatedly to play this morning but each time I select a server from the server list the game crashes and presents me with the crash report dialog.

The game was fine last night and I've tried the Repair option in the launcher to no avail.

    Anyone else having this problem?

    1. Log in
    2. Select server (I've tried Union, Defiant and Freedom so far)
    3. Crash
    4. Report dialog.
    5. Sad panda.

Let's say September 14th is your two year anniversary of playing the game. In that case, on the 13th, you'll get:
~7 tokens in compensation for vet rewards.
~1 token for your 1 year anniversary.
Then, the next day, you'll get:
~1 token as your monthly bonus.
~1 token as your yearly bonus.
    So you'll have 10 total.

Let's move the anniversary back to the 12th. You'll get:
~8 tokens in compensation for vet rewards.
~2 tokens for your 2 years of bonuses.
    And still have 10 total.
What about the free character slot you get for each year? Has that just vanished? I have just one unlocked slot on Defiant and I was saving that for my 72mth reward slot.

If you are a free player in that game, you get access to all the zones - but you only get QUEST ACCESS to the three starter zones - the equivalent of Galaxy, Atlas and Imperial City. In order to progress past level 20 or so, you have to either start going zone-to-zone and just grinding mobs, or you have to buy zone quest packs.

That is a LOT more restrictive than being able to roll all the way to 50 with full access to all contacts who aren't incarnate or Praetorian.
Except that most of the points I have spent unlocking that content I earned just by playing the game. No actual cash required.

Oh, and just to clear up your inaccuracy, the free quest content extends up to level 30 now plus the main epic storyline content is free all the way up to the level cap and beyond.

I have no problems with the freemium model at all, there's no misunderstandings to be had.

I play two MMOs. City of Heroes is my sub game and LotRO is my free game for when I need a break from CoH. I like LotRO but I only have budget for one subscription game at a time so when I do play I might pay out a few dollars for the next piece of content I want to play.

Looking at what CoH is offering does not compare favourably. As a newbie to LotRO I had access to tells, server-wide player made chat channels, the majority of the crafting system and could buy items from the auction house. I could theoretically (if I put enough time in) unlock the entire content of the game by earning Turbine Points just through playing the game. As it is I have bought points, although 2/3 of the points I've spent in the store have been earned rather than purchased.

It's a lot closer to personal freedom and choice than CoH is offering.

    Freedom? Hardly

I have to agree with the OP. If I was looking for a F2P game and saw that if I wanted to play CoH for free that meant no guilds, no crafting, no auction house, no trading, practically no ability to communicate I'd be looking elsewhere.

It doesn't have to be this bad. I know they are being extra cautious in order to placate the existing user base but for a new player coming in it's just too restrictive.

    Just my 2inf.
  11. Does anyone have a copy of the current, live quickchat.mnu file? I have an older copy that I have modified with the costume changes but I guess it's a couple of issues out of date now and will be missing stuff.

  12. We share a birthday? Cool! Would you like some cake?

    It's chocolate cake too
  13. DING! My awesome wife made my inner-badger's day with a new shiny!

Seems kind of silly I should have to, but ah well. It's that or I'm going to start thinking my PC is sending me subliminal messages with all the screen flashing.
Well I've updated to the latest NVidia drivers and it's made no difference.

I don't have any problems blue side and minimal issues red side. I like the shadows to much to turn them off so I guess I'll just avoid playing in Preatoria. I've been through there a couple of times so I'm not bothered about doing that content again.

  16. Yup, it looks like it's an issue with the shadows. The only settings that eliminate this is turning the shadows right down to a blob.

That's a real shame. As far as I'm concerned the best bit of ultra mode is the realistic shadows. I guess I'll just be avoiding Praetoria from now on, I like the shadows on my characters too much to turn it off.

Out of curiosity, is this a known issue with Nvidia 4xx series cards or are we just unlucky? Is it driver related or just how the shadows in CoH are implemented that freaks out the cards? I'm currently running driver version 266.58 but will update to the latest version (275.33) to see if that makes any difference.

When I'm running around the game world the screen will flicker very briefly. It's sort of a black flash that is so fast sometimes it takes me a second to realize it happened again. This does not seem to happen in door missions at all, only outside. It happens regardless of which "side" I'm playing on, though it does seem to be much worse in Praetoria. I updated to the most recent graphics driver for my card and it didn't seem to do any good.

I have an nVidia Geforce GTX 470 video card and am running Windows 7 Pro (64 bit edition).

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
I get the very same thing, especially in Praetoria and when scrolling through the badge listing.

    NVidia GTX460 on Win7 x64 Home Premium.

And no, in 6 months I haven't found a fix for it except to not play in Praetoria much.

Even on Hamidon Raids, I find myself switching between these two modes of operation, depending on which phase of the raid we're in. Monster clearing, Green Mitos and Nucleus phases are mainly about Kinetics. Blue Mitos are mainly about Mind Control (to do damage).

Mind/Kin is also a combination that "never really settles down" into any one spot. It's very dynamic in that respect, very active. Your Mind Control powers "like" to operate at a distance, but your Kinetics powers "like" to operate up close ... often while next to the Main Tank. This very basic push-pull of the two powersets means that unlike some combos, Mind/Kin doesn't really have a "comfort zone" where you can just plunk yourself down and push buttons all day. Positioning, relative to the ongoing battles, becomes important because you have Kinetics powers that spawn PBAoEs around the target, and other Kinetics powers that spawn PBAoEs around you ... so *where* you are in the battlespace becomes more important than it otherwise might with different powersets.

Suffice it to say, that life as a Mind/Kin is never dull. You will ALWAYS have "something to do" when playing Mind/Kin. Plus there's the fact that you move around like a Spaz while hopped up on Siphon Speed.
    ^^ This.

I just dug my Mind/Kin out this evening to run LGTF and ITF and I'd forgotten how busy you get.

There is a slightly schizophrenic feel to the character with the swapping between the ranged Mind controls and the melee Kinetic buffs/debuffs but it's a lot of fun once you get into the mindset.

  21. Easiest way to get your build into Mids is to use the Titan Sentinel app. Run Sentinel, log into your character and then choose the Export button on the Utilities tab in Sentinel. That copies your build to the clipboard and you can use the Import From Forum Post function in Mids to load the build in. Super easy

But, after a few hours of crafting it really, really gets tiresome having to close the "Memorized" portion yet again.
    Please, please, please this.

    Please?
  23. Sorry, minor correction...the /data folder is the default location if it exists. In a plain vanilla install it will not exist and the location will default to the root install folder instead.

I've had a /data folder in my install for as long as I can remember and that's where bindsavefile defaults to.
  24. Yup, I've had the same thing for a while now. It's very annoying and I've not found a solution.
  25. The NCSoft launcher has both City of Heroes (US) and City of Heroes listed, both having the same version id and residing in the same folder. It's odd because I'm an EU player and have never had the NA version installed on that machine.

Is there is way to correct this? How is it "detecting" which versions are installed?
