    This is what I was thinking but with perhaps 3 options. Melee, Ranged, and Both. I don't mind my Ninja's throwing off some of those ranged attacks at all. They actually do a good job of ranged attacks while they approach the foe. But I certainly want my Bruiser to stop throwing anything....and want my other thugs to stand back.

    In reality you can build many of your toons for mostly ranged, mostly melee, or both. I'd like that option on my pets too.
  2. Pharmacology Control - Sleeps, slows, +speed, -resistance (roofies) etc..

    The clown MM set has to have a marbles knockdown power like Caltrops!
  3. For me. I wanted a hard hitting mace character. I dig the thwack the mace makes and like the animations but a tanker was out of the question for me. Made mine well before scrappers were even considered to get it.

    The Bane can dish out some serious ST damage, has nice team buffs plus debuffs (venon grenage, surveillance, and poisonous ray with -res proc), along with possibly 3 pets AND very stealthy. It's a mixed bag of goodness.

    No I didn't. I took 3 slots from those three defensive powers and 5 slots from boxing. That leaves:

    45.7 melee
    47.6 ranged
    45.1 aoe

    with suppression.

    That frees up 8 slots to use as he wishes and still has soft-capped def.
  5. Well I think you did a good job. It's a different set up than I have but it seems like a good use of IOs for low cost.

    I am assuming that you went over the softcap some for defense debuffs but it seemed like a very small benefit to me. If you stuck with just trying to get to the softcap for all three positions, you could free up quit a few slots for yourself.

    Take out 1 def IO slot each in TTM, Weave, and Cloaking Device. You could get rid of all boxing slots (it kills me to see that).

    You could fully slot TTT with Guassians and give BU 3 recharge IOs (better end on TTT and faster recharge on BU).

    Then you could use your extra slots to put in tough and/or armor. Get your S/L resists up to 31% and rest at around 11%.

    Or slot out that third cone PPP. For more damage and possible +recharge with Positron's Blast in there.

    My 2 cents.
  6. You know I've been asking myself that same question all along as well. Should I take regen and pair it with STJ? I really liked the prospect of close to max hp on brute regen.

    Well I am sitting at lvl 42 and am starting to get the hang of it for the tough fights.

    I went with Regen b/c I've never had a regen toon before and wanted to try something different.

    It's different. And when a tough fight comes along, you have some tools to overcome.

    The -end and -recharge foes in the First Ward were brutal. I am finally getting end management under control with a few choice IOs. STJ takes quite a bit of end to hammer down some tough foes.....and running out of end just stinks. That has helped alot in my opinion.

    I am sticking with it myself. I see some light at the end of the tunnel and feel that with IO sets, he'll be quite competitive.

    And I've felt just as squishy with my ss/fire brute and my kin/ela scrapper.......until you can turn the corner (with whatever you need). Then it's quite fun.

  7. Thanks for the reply Claws.

    From what I was reading about regen & a brute, the advantage over the scrapper was the hp edge. Why I focused on +HP in the build. I could have added more defense but at the sacrifice of less recharge. I think.

    Yeah it's perma dull pain. The build has:

    145% recharge with Hasten
    31.2% s/l defesne
    18.2% all other defense
    +286.7 HP from IOs

    Even with dull pain, all hp accolades, spiritual core alpha (+recharge, +healing), the build is still about 170 HP short from brute cap (3212 right?).

    In reality I didn't sacrifice too much defense for HP......about 0.5 % by adding an extra LOTG for hp vs an HO in 3 powers. I did sacrifice some end recovery in stamina and quick recovery by using three performance shifters instead of 2 + 1 end mod IO.
  8. I have the below build as my guideline for where I want to go with this toon. But something is eating at me. I feel there is more I could get out of it. This is my first regen toon after playing since 2004 and I'm still getting the hang of it. He's level 40 atm and starting to prepare for IO build.

    I focused on +hp, +recharge, and +def and think I have a good mix of all. I've noticed that -recharge is a killer and that STJ end usage + end zappers are brutal too. After 40 levels, I am also still concerned with too many whiffs and am debating on using the Energy PP for FA + endurance powers.

    Any tweaks or suggestions would be great.

    I do already have the Glad's Armor ready to go but not sure if it's getting wasted on this toon.

  9. I like it for a number of reasons.

    * Cool Animations
    * Good Punch/Smash sound effects
    * I can finally use that Boxing costume set (has a great 1-2 boxing punch in Initial Strike)
    * Decent Damage
    * Faster (ish) animations
    * Feels very scrappy

    I chose a Brute and am happy with the decision. STJ with Initial Strike is a very fast, quick recharging power that builds fury well. And it feels like a good filler power too....kinda like Jab Jab.....smash.....jab jab......round kick. Plus with a brute, you are setting up your AOE/CONE with the combo system with 2-3 hits first alot.....good fury building.

    I also noticed that the AOE & Cone powers are pretty good too. Nothing spectacular, but once you get the hang of it, you can really get some good AOE damage going. And from a damage standpoint......it's good.

    ***I have noticed a below average accuracy though. I am missing more often than I am used to with any other set....even with 2 IO or SO Accuracy enhancements. Before the SOs.....it was ALOT of whiffing. Anyone else noticing this?*****
  10. Super Flu

    Regen

    My two cents. I too have started a STJ/Regen brute. I have been soloing (+2, 1) mostly so far (wanted to get threw the First Ward arc and actually read it) and I have my standard arcs I like to hit....Striga & Croatoa. I thought the resistance ring in the Striga arc would be nice while leveling for EBs if needed. Its very nice.

    So far I am only lvl 30 but when I do team I have been handling the tanking role decently....usually with the help of the support toons. Of course it's low level stuff with fewer debuffs (the to hit debuff is murderous for rage & damage).

    The good news I think it that it handles well and regen is a late bloomer with is emergency powers.

    My feeling is that it will do well in the scrapper role even while stealing aggro with the added taunt aura.

    Hoping in the middle of a large high end group is gonna be treacherous unless you have Moment of Glory on to take Alpha.

    With that in mind, I'll be focusing on +HP, +Rech and +DEF for the IO build.

    I'm excited to see what will happen.
  11. Is anyone else seeing an issue with a toon showing that they have logged on....when in fact, you never did log that toon on?

    For instance, I was gone for 27 days. Just came back and logged onto a couple of toons. As I looked at the SG page, it said one of my other toons was on today and I definitely DID not log him on.

    I noticed this on the test server a couple of times too. It seems to always be the same toon...which is my original first made toon on this account.

    Is there some glitch I am unaware of?

    My concern is that I may have been hacked BUT it seems highly unlikely with my password. It just seems strange that its always the same toon.

    Certainly I do not understand the mechanics of Keyes Trial. I've done it once and even with all of the instructions (and misc jokesters who cant shut up) it was hard to follow what was to be done. Basically Do's and Dont's.

    And yes I understand the plight of "non-Healorz" especially D/D as I have leveled a dark/dark defender to 50.

    With that being said. None of your debuffs can be used in that part of the trial? You do not have Twilight Grasp? I know some people say "I am not a healer" in the sense of that they aren't Empath but still do have TG. You didn't specifically say if you had it or not. Just confirming.

    I'm certainly not siding with anyone who kicks people that late in the trial for almost any reason. And in this case it sounds like the person was a fool.

    You make it sound like you just stood there after he said to stop attacking. Was there anyway to do something in the form of debuffs or it didn't matter? Mr. Healorz wanted heals!
  13. Yikes. You sound so callous Stalemate. j/k

    Ok I didn't want to "start something". I was just asking if anyone has had the same experience as I. I suppose the "Protector WAS great, now it's plain vanilla" seemed like a shot at the server and took me back some. Perhaps I was reading it wrong.

    Nope. I was asking if others have experienced what I have. Certainly not expecting everyone at all. That being said. Your post still sounds bitter.....just saying.

    I have found that all servers are definitely not the same. Sure there are nice people on each one....but certain servers have their own "feel" to them.

    I do not know what a hugglepounce is either.

The phrase "lol Protector" circulated because people from this little tiny server were kicking *** and taking names. That was when being from Protector meant something.

    I know a ton of people from Protector over on Freedom. They don't consider Protector their home, just where they started out. Protector has polite, knowledgeable players that team well--just like every other server. Beyond that the only thing distinctive about the server is the fiction on the forums.
    Yikes! Is it me or are you bitter about something?
  17. When I am on other servers....it seems that most times I find someone who I play well with ......that has teaming mentality.....are generally kind and thoughtful......are good with just talking and joking........after talking for a bit.....I find out that they call Protector their home server.

    Just wondering if other people have had the same experience as me.

    Protector has always been my home but I take "vacation" on mostly Virtue often nowadays.

    Agreed. AND Soul Tentacles has DOUBLE the recharge and close to HALF of the ARC (per mids).

    And the Devs HAVE duplicated before in the PPPs.

    Arachnos Soldiers can have both Wide Area Web Grenade AND Web Envelope from Mace Mastery PPP. Both ranged AOE immobilizers. They are just as "identical" to each other as TT and ST would be.

    Here's to Tenebrous Tentacles being in Dark Blast Blaster Primary.!!!

    Soul Plaque went where I was gonna go. There are quite a few APP or PPP powers that allow one to double up on holds and are similar enough (Telsa Cage & Shocking Bolt from APP OR Electric Shackles from PPP).

    I get that TT and ST are VERY similar powers...with even almost identical animations (damn the funky ST colors). And the similarity is too much to think we'd get both.

    Well, I really want to have both. And I think TT should be part of dark blast for blasters. Here's why.

    1. Tenebrous Tentacles is one of the set defining powers of dark blast, imho. Why would you remove it if this is so?

    2. We have plenty of doubling up on holds & stuns and even AOE sleeps from APP/PPP. For blasters and many other achetypes too. It's about time you have the ability to double up on immobilizers, AOE even.

    3. AND there is already an archetype that HAS the ability to double on AOE Immobilizing....with very similar power names and animation with slightly differing recharge times, endurance cost, a tweaked secondary effects...similar (enough) to the difference in TT and ST. Soldiers of Arachnos can now get both the Wide Area Web Grenade AND Web Envelope from a PPP. It didn't stop the devs there.

    I want my TT and I think it should be included in dark blast for blasters.

    I fixed the fireball numbers....so the only numbers that are in question are the shield charge for brutes (still dont know if my numbers are even wrong) and then the 50% vs 75% fury which doesn't make much of a difference in the results or point I was trying to make.

    The reason I went through the "trouble" was because I really didn't know to what degree we were talking and I like to see the numbers. I cant be the only one. Anybody can say one's better than the next......but let's see the meat of it.
  22. Just comparing electric / shield between scrapper and brute...b/c that is somewhat how I decided on a scrapper.....and I would have appreciated the numbers....at that time. Thought I'd help others.....plus promote the combo since it IS a blast to play to me. Seriously this toon has revitalized my COH experience.

    Yes I do understand some brutes perform nicely and better than scrappers.....have one myself. Although I am also trying to compare apples to apples.....and scrappers cannot use axe or SS, just saying.
  23. Thanks Uber...nitpick all you like. That's what I want so I can understand better.
