  1. Anyone have any idea how to work out how much -speed you need to slow an SS user down?

    At the minute I'm on -360% slow in a patch, would this be enough or would they just super speed out of it?
  2. Hmm just thought of something that would technically make AR unique... instead of an aim power how about something similar to another old, well used mmorpg power such as 'Paint Target' ? Animation wise, you would fire something similar to a luminiscent paintball at your target, it would also be a good 'anti stealth' power, considering AR is usually teamed with Devices on blaster it would go with the stalker killer idea in PvP which is commonly how devices are used.
    Instead of giving +damage boost, it gives a -res on the target instead for the whole team, which would help with single target damage and also give AR more usefulness in teams as well and make them godsends in PvP
  3. That minigun is actually frickin sweet lol. Full auto like that would solve the animation issues plus would be a whole lot cooler.

    The actual sounds for the browning .50 cal sounds a lot like the static guns already in game, such as the ones protecting the base in RWZ and Bloody Bay etc.

  5. Not particularly minor for the graphics card fix.

    This is the patch I personally have been crying out for since i17 release, and as I mentioned before I know of 43 people suffering from this myself in game and on the forums combined.

    Its stopped a whole bunch of people from cancelling there subs.

    Also waiting one day to be able to do Hami isnt really a long waiting period... particularly since its midweek and most Hami raids happen at the weekend anyway.
  6. So to summerize, people tend to think either Buckshot, Ignite or Flamethrower needs biggest changes with full auto not so important because its easier to use?

    I agree single target damage is the biggest issue with assault rifle, area attack wise its not too bad but still not as good as some particularly due to a lack of aim, which strangely enough would suit a gun type charecter since they are constantly aiming anyway lol.
  7. I couldnt help but think this looks awfully like the matrix when I saw the costumes for the Syndicate at the bottom of the police bulletin... The glasses in particular are very morpheus

    So since there are new costume parts for the syndicate, they also mentioned they use automatic weapons and swords. More weapon customisation unlockables?

    Sounds that way to me.

    As it is, thats not an option, sadly. As I like the Arachnos gun set MUCH better than AR. Yes, even without the mini-nuke. Full Auto is cool, but it kinda just tips the balance for a set with too much Lethal damage that seems to punish you at later levels without some -res around.
    Thats actually very true, I didnt think of that point in all honesty. I have to admit I myself even did that before I raised my assault rifle charecters.

    I think that will always be the way it is though regardless of changes though since VEAT's have resists and ranged attacks earlier than other ranged sets get resists which makes them easier to play. The focus of other sets should be to offer more damage in return for this or at least put them in line with other sets and make them easier to use.

    Also pointed castle in the direction of this thread, I'm hoping he will at least look at it because theres been a fair amount of these posts about now and its not very often someone disagrees that the set is low of damage.

    It seems a lot of people think of Ignite overall as the biggest problem with the set, flamethrower though comes a close second followed by full auto. Funnily enough the 3 final powers in the set are the ones causing the issues.

    Ignite seems to be the easiest to rework though out of the 3. The only issue I'd have with the suggestions above about having a fire effect around any mob you hit is we would lose our door blocking ability. Thats why I suggested the devs meld together flamethrower and ignite into one power, so you have a bit of upfront damage and still keep the DoT. This would also free up the slot for an aim style power or something similar which the set does need.

    I do think this alone is enough to make the set viable, since full auto is a big pain to use due to animation but its also very fast recharging. Whilst its a lot slower than rain of arrows to animate I really cant see another way of getting the animation to fire loads of bullets without taking ages anyway.
  9. Not meaning to sound like im flaming here but the fact people seem to think brutes are redside tankers is the reason a lot of hero players dont make it past level 10.

    Yes Brutes have tanker resists cap but not they dont have the same resists, basically its a more IO set friendly version of a scrapper, with fury instead of crits.

    Brutes can tank very well but so can scrappers if built right, the main differences between the two are crits/fury, resists caps and aoe taunt vs single target taunt, thats about it.

    After playing assault rifle on 2 charecters now, one blaster and one corruptor, I cant help but feel assault rifle is underpowered compared to every other set.

    The main reason people used to play this was the old ignite bug where you could stack it every couple of seconds for massive damage. Now however since the changes thats not really possible anymore. Combined with this theres a horribly long animation time for full auto which makes the power even questionable to take. Flamethrower isnt really substancial damage either and again, a long animation time. Beanbag is pretty much as it should be.

    Combined with this the set has no form of aim power, and also has less accuracy and damage than archery. Compared with Dual Pistols, it has nowhere near the amount of utility the set offers with ammo changing, yet dual pistols also has 4 AoE/Cone based attacks as well and a defence buff on hail of bullets.

    Compared with archery, Assualt rifle deals a lot less damage with a lot less accuracy. If i understand correctly, Assault rifle was originally meant to be a more AoE based set than archery which makes them different. However the way the set is even in a team situation its much more preferable to pick archery.

    Dual pistols also has no aim power, but makes up for it with the amount of utility it offers such as -damage and +DoT effects and the ability to switch on the fly. Assault rifle doesnt have any such power yet also suffers from lower damage.

    Why is this?

    I blame long animation time, combined with lower damage output and no aim power. The sets biggest hitter, ignite is incredibly hard to use if you dont have an immob power slotted and is useless vs more than one mob. Whilst the power IS nice for tactical play, in reality it isnt very helpful in damage dealing.

    My suggestion involves both/either of two things,

    1) lower the animation times for powers such as full auto, flamethrower and ignite. This already would be a massive improvement despite damage, and would possibly play a bit like a claws version of ranged if done right.

    2) Add an aim type power in exchange for Ignite, possibly something along the lines of 'change magazine' to add to the effect of using a rifle (although I cant really explain how this would add +tohit ). In addition to this combine the flame effect with flamethrower so you can deal instant damage with the flamethrower as well as leave an extended dot effect at the end of the cone. If this is done, full auto should possibly be changed places with this since its more of a tier 9 power and I think the recharge should be changed to fit with full autos time.

    The powers that are currently fine and have no need to be changed are burst, slug, sniper rifle, buckshot, m30 grenade and beanbag. The remaining 3 powers (the last 3 powers) have some serious issues with them and should be looked into, both in pve and the pvp game (wont get started on pvp, since AR is pretty much a joke there ).
  11. I should also add, my laptop has 3 hard drives each at 30gb and that program can defrag all 3 at once which is also a great time saver.

    After doing the system boot defrag, my load times now are generally less than 10 seconds which I am really happy about.

    I understand what your trying to point out but to add to that analogy, if you beefed up your engine and didnt put your foot down to the floor then that tin can might still do the job. In reference to the game, the original settings simply shouldnt have been changed, the idea of i17 was an addition for high end computer users, not something demanding an upgrade from every single player, thats why the sliders move up one more instead of just giving you a whole remake of the entire system.

    Im not asking for a total rollback to i16 graphics, I'm asking that they look at the problems the issue has caused with older computers. Getting rid of players who have been playing for years with a graphical change because they cant be bothered to fix it so the old players can play the same is a stupid idea. Again i17 is an addition, not a overhaul and that should be how it is treated. I have been playing since i4 (including EU account) and now your telling me I should buy a new pc or I cant play anymore? Thats kind of insane... particularly from a game thats dropping in earnings in the past few months, the game really cant afford to alienate there longterm players like this.

    Thats the point, if they didnt show up on test then why are they on live? That alone proves its a bug since i17 was on live and these issues didnt occur. Whilst I wouldnt want to say the bugs were being ignored, if you look at any other thread regarding i17 bugs then you will see most of them got reported in test and didnt get fixed before they were pushed live. This happens every issue but with a major graphics addition you cant really afford to take bugs lightly, since even what appears to be a minor bug to the devs, changes the entire view of the game for the players getting it when its graphical.

    Minor bugs like chat issues are annoying yes, but when your forced to look at a graphical issue such as the WW missing windows bug etc, it affects people a lot more negatively I think.

    Contacted tech support several times, each time stating what I have done already such as updating drivers off nvidia, reinstalling game, reinstalling xp, trying modified .inf drivers and getting to the stage where they blame my drivers everytime then they refuse to update the ticket anymore. Its kind of expected in all honesty, Tech support for plaync is very poor, it always has been.

    Didnt expect them to fix it but it was worth a try. Also Ive heard from Castle and Arbiter Kim several times on the matter, who have said the engineers have been working on it since the day after i17 release. Whilst I am patient, two patches have gone by now with no fix which makes me wonder if I was just fobbed off.

    I dont know if I already mentioned but theres 43 of us suffering from this now that I know of, 39 of which will not be renewing subs unless its sorted by time it runs out. I did expect bugs with i17, like i said earlier there is with every issue release but bugs of this magnitude still not fixed after two patches is unheard of in all the time I've played CoH.

    I played open beta, I did have closed beta invite on EU account but didnt use it, the open beta didnt suffer from this issue. Which again makes me believe its a game bug.

    I agree completely but again, thats what the crash reports are there for. Ive personally sent at least 50 of them in now, all with the text that Arbiter Kim told me to paste in there. Instead of logging out I intentionally crash myself and send another crash report, I know a lot of my friends do the same thing. So its not about a lack of information to go on, its just about how long its taking to get sorted.

    Dont get me wrong I have faith that the bug will get fixed...eventually, its just the amount of time the bugs been around for is a lot longer than any other gamebreaking bug I've ever heard of. Usually these things get seen to in the first one or two patches, we have had two (including test) and theres still no fix. Ive asked for an update of the situation from Arbiter Kim and not even had a reply. Its this thats more annoying than the actual bug.

    Agreed, lower levels are suckish, but 22 when you can slot SO's is the best time to decide if you want to keep it.

    That being said if you wanna change.. SS/SR doesnt go very well because the rage crash kills defence so you will be hit continuously whilst its down. Its manageable if timed right but its a bit of a pain.

    claws/sr would be the better of the two for that reason alone.
  14. Im sorry I do see what your getting at but I also dont see how you can say its nvidias fault that CoH crashes...

    I get that you say they used shortcuts and 'cheats' to get stuff done, but it worked fine originally and the settings I use in game have not changed so why have the requirements changed? The game still runs fine actually playing it but the BROKEN part of the tailor, name entry screens, contacts display pictures and all linked in one BUG.

    I dont see what the big issue would be with reverting the display pictures back to how they were pre i17, that would completley solve the issues and its not exactly going to make the slightest bit of difference to any other player.

    If your saying it was a bug, then how come it was in the game since release right up till two weeks ago? I think you have your wires crossed here, thats not a bug, i17 was. There wouldnt be crash fixes in the last patch and the one on test if i17 wasnt responsible for any of this. Its the fact the devs rushed stuff out (probably due to marketing pushing them) why these bugs were ignored on test in the first place.

    The lack of help after that is whats driving players away, and looking at the financial figures, they cant really afford to get rid of players because of bugs at this stage. Yes theres still plenty here, but a very bugged issue for a 6 year old game is not going to bring in new players until its ironed out. The problem is, by that stage the players who ARE having issues like me will be long gone.

    I do realise there trying to get things sorted but it doesnt change the fact they really should have kept i17 on test until they sorted major issues such as this out in the first place. You cant release a major graphical override without checking and sorting the bugs first, thats just insane.

  17. Sorry I know this is a noob suggestion but have you tried using the /goto command to pull them back into range?

    It was happening with my mercs too but this solved it for me, its annoying to have to use it everytime they move to melee though.

    Dell have always been a pile of turd when it comes to support. If its just your power supply thats dead though, are you sure you want to look into a new pc?

    I mean as unreliable as it is, ebay actually sell a fair amount of chargers and plugs. I have a Toshiba laptop, that I didnt research before I bought, then realised the plugs were dodgy and the inside of the sockets came loose very easily, both these replacement parts could be bought off ebay for less than £10 so its was pretty easy to sort out.

    My bf also has an asus laptop, his plug died a couple of days ago and his came this morning, it only cost him £8 for a new plug and charger.

    I maybe misunderstanding what you wrote, but to me it seems easiest to just fix what you have

    Sorry you confused me there... how does this change make its stupidly good?

    If it no longer repel's and shut off after 6 seconds, it kinda seems exactly the same as any other hold but with as a toggle that gets knocked off on damage, which seems just like a sleep power instead of a hold.
  21. I use an old geforce MX440 card on my laptop. Yes I know its ancient but it still runs the game fine other than the tailor crashes at the minute.

    Im also running windows XP and NVidia no longer make drivers for this card, understandable considering its age but I was wondering if I upgraded to windows 7 would there be newer drivers along with it or will it just be the same as the NVidia final release?

    See I'm starting to think that possibly the bug maybe related to drivers since I downgraded and crashed even earlier than with the newest ones out, so if there were any compatible or newer drivers than that I may get it working...

    Or if there was a way to effectively 'trick' my computer into accepting drivers for a newer 3d card just to get past the bug this would be good too.

    Please dont bother telling me I should just buy a new laptop/3d card, if this was an option right now I would have done it already. The point being I shouldnt really be forced to buy a new comp just to play a game that came with a supposedly optional addon to graphics and I wont buy a new comp for the sake of one game, which the devs refuse to fix the bugs for and still charge to play, no matter how fun it is

  23. Actions speak louder than vets you can have a 6 year vet badge and still be a noob.

    However, just because you dont join a PL farm thats not the definition of noob, the definition of noob is the one who runs in those farms then comes out at level 50 expecting the rest of the game content to be the same difficulty, and of course gets everyone else killed then complains because 'MA iz betta tiketz yo'.

    Is this still as OP as it used to be?

    Meaning your enemy carries on floating back until you run out of endurence or does it detoggle after so long now? If so how long is the timer?

    Also its been stated PFF isnt worth it anymore, if stacked with other defence powers, is it still pointless? Im getting a total on mids of 117% defence with PFF on, thinking DR will hit is heavily but will still be over 45% softcap, which should be just as good as elude still?

    SS/Fire is a nice combo, I had one at 50 myself

    Tips would be make sure you slot your heal as soon as possible with heals and recharges, since you will use it a lot. Also taking tough helps a lot from the fighting pool, weave you dont need though. Medicines aid self is kinda pointless with decent slots on healing flames, but hasten helps.

    In fact.. I just realised I have my old build pre set bonuses, so this should give you ideas...
